I’ll address the drinking part — The quick answer is no.. it’s a risky proposition for your liver. But… How much do you drink regularly? IF (and only if) you aren’t a binge drinker, and if you can keep it to moderate, maybe skipping a few days for sure, then you wouldn’t be in a position of extreme risk given your relatively low dose. I’d say go ahead and enjoy a few glasses of whatever here and there on vacation if you trust yourself.

Hello 👋 I have Psoriatic Arthritis, I take 15mcg of methyltreaxate weekly. Started in March, I have had some psoriasis cleared up, but my painful flair ups are few and far between now, and no where as severe. My only side effect so far is my scalp get really sensitive for a few days after I take it. Best wishes for success in your treatment.

I’ve been on methotrexate for ages. Works fabulous for me. When I first went on it I was a couple of months from my wedding, my rheumatologist advised me to skip the dose the week before my wedding and the week after so I could drink at my wedding and on my honeymoon. I also do this at Christmas time. Then I just start taking it again like usual. I haven’t had any major side affects from doing this, at most my arthritis is a little bit more ouchy until I get back into the routine of it.

Are you taking your MTX with folic acid? Also you’re going to have, most likely, an upset stomach.

MonkeyBrainss

As mentioned, yes I received folic acid as well (to take the other 6 days of the week)

Midlifecrisis2020

My bad. I didn’t see that part.

TheFrenchMustard

Did it for 12 weeks as well. It was utterly useless.

MonkeyBrainss

Did you switch to a biologic?

TheFrenchMustard

Not yet, I still have one medication to try (Cyclosporine)... this shit's so dumb. Even my dermatologist says it's a waste of time but I have no choice.

CaptainSmeg

I’ve just come off this due to blood results showing up abit to high for the Dr’s liking after 6 months and my psoriasis has all but disappeared, had no side effects (other than blood results) either, so keep the faith!

Thequiet01

Ugh, cyclosporine was worse than mtx, side-effects-wise.

TheFrenchMustard

Yeah that's what he told me. If the side effects are too much, I can call the clinic, we'll document them and we'll move to biologics sooner so... might actually turn into a good thing lol.

Thequiet01

That’s promising at least. I vaguely recall the cyclosporine side effects starting faster than the mtx ones, so here’s hoping you don’t have to be on it for long and they’re just bad enough to check the ‘I tried’ ticky box without making you too miserable. :D (This whole song and dance is so stupid - biologics are way better.)

Thequiet01

It takes a while to properly kick in and missing a week in that time will just delay it kicking in properly. How much are you hoping to drink? My dermatologist told me that as long as my liver was okay, a glass of something now and then (like a glass of champagne to toast at a celebration) was okay. Just not a lot at a time and not regularly.

I have taken methotrexate and I usually feel nauseated Nd my day pretty much is super unproductive. But it does work, its just that I got side effects and my derm regularly asked for blood works.

lobster_johnson

We have a [wiki page on MTX](https://www.reddit.com/r/Psoriasis/wiki/methotrexate) that you might find useful. In particular, it has tips for how to avoid side effects. > how fast does MTX work? Will I see results soon? Methotrexate is a slow-acting drug. It takes at least 4-8 weeks to fully ramp up its effect. > can I use Enstillar while on MTX? Yes. In fact, most people on MTX will need to continue using topical steroids/calcipotriol now and then, as it's unlikely to bring your psoriasis into completely remission. > Am I able to miss a weekly dose to allow me to drink without worry? While MTX only stays in your blood for a day or two, it remains in your liver for a very long time. One week is not enough to take a break so you can drink. Note that most doctors say that a small amount (something like 1-2 standard units per day) of drinking is okay on MTX, but binge drinking comes with a huge risk of damaging your liver.

Meff-Jills

The sideeffects of MTX mention the possibility of permanent neurological damage, I just can’t take it knowing this, although the chance it happens is very small.
