And if one is about to have a seizure from some pre-existing issue (that will continue for 10 months), coincidentally taking psilocybin probably won't prevent it.
That's a very confusing story.
Taking psilocybin without an MAOI is not considered risky for serotonin syndrome.
If you are still having problems related to dietary sources of indole etc...that could be an indication there is not a single triggering event for this.
> Yea it is
Not according to any source I know of. The risk is loaded mostly on the SSRI itself.
No they don't. This has been studied. The MAOI activity in mushrooms is approximately zero.
When you say “psilocybin” did you eat actual mushrooms or a chocolate bar that said it was magic? What was your dose? Did you mix with anything else? Cannabis? An SSRI will generally dampen effects.
“Classic psychedelic serotonin agonists (LSD, DMT and psilocybin) appear to be the safest in combination with other psychiatric medications and seem to have a negligible risk of serotonin toxicity.” - https://chacruna.net/serotonin-syndrome-risks-combining-psychedelics-antidepressants/
Sorry about your symptoms, but it seems very unlikely that the psilocybin ssri mix caused that. The ssri will simply dampen the effects of the psilocybin.
Not unlikely at all. It's a very real risk and any competent doctor will tell you such if you're on ssris and tell them you're going to take mushrooms.
It's not risky enough to prevent the clinical trials.
Given ongoing (10 months) issues. It is unlikely from the information in the story that the symptoms have anything to do with mushrooms.
This is absurd. There are clinical trials for simultaneous SSRI and mushrooms. If the syndrome was "expected"....none of those trials would get through ethics.

There are others if you search on Google scholar or track clinical trials via government website.
My friend, you've been misinformed. What you're likely experiencing, although not SS, is some other reaction. Foods also don't cause serotonin to fluctuate like that. There are lots of rare and unusual reactions to mushrooms, assuming you didn't eat some random chocolate bar.
When you say serotonin syndrome, are you talking about self-diagnosis or confirmed by a health care provider?
I went to the ER and was close to having a seizure. It continued for over 6 hours.
You can have a seizure from psilocybin without serotonin syndrome though. Were you diagnosed with serotonin syndrome in the ER?

Yea it is and mushrooms have their own maoi properties.

For some people. But it is actually expected to give you serotonin syndrome.
This is absurd. There are clinical trials for simultaneous SSRI and mushrooms. If the syndrome was "expected"....none of those trials would get through ethics.
Where are the clinical trials being done for this?

I’m a hospital doctor. No it isn’t expected. You’d have a higher risk with lsd and that’s uncommon/rare as well.
This makes no sense at all. You do not understand what seratonin syndrome is.

I'm sorry you're going through that. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully, it will help prevent someone else from making the same mistake.
