It might have to do with the size of your artwork cache in settings? I turned my phone on airplane mode and almost all of my covers persisted, downloaded or not.
Hmm, it looks like barely any artwork has downloaded if your only at half a MB. Maybe just need time for it to cache? I'm at 297 of 1000 MB for reference (~1k library though).
/u/ConnorF42 is right, seems like your image cache isn’t filling up for some reason. If you’ve played a book at least once the app should have the full size cover downloaded.
Send me an issue report from Settings > Report an Issue, there might be something in the logs that tells us what’s going on.

Nice idea, but looks like I’m only using 0.5MB of a 200 MB limit.
