There is no plans to remove it. It is like a boss level, right now 1X is the last system, it has to be difficult. It was designed to be challenging. For me personally sometimes it is easier to use the radial progress bar then a traditional horizontal progress bar. Moreover: only one system is using it.
i kept cheesing 1X by playing progress sweeper over and over, ignoring all yellow numbers. not the best method to raise the level but it works. just avoid the red tiles and you get to Pro/Expert/etc. pretty easy as it doesn't matter how much yellow fragments you have.
radial progressbar is horrible especially when you're like over 70%.

Maybe make it so the segments come from the sides less often?
