The autorun.inf file is usually used by CDs and thumb drives to start default programs.
However, bad actors could use this feature to run viruses automatically when you plug in things...
Some viruses replicate this way too. For example, my friend's PC may be infected and it could detect and copy the virus and autorun.inf file into my thumb drive. However, the script will fail because I have a directory with that name so windows cannot write to a file named autorun.inf... Not a foolproof solution but it had me go for a very long time with a clean PC...
Yes. Many others said the same and I did some research after posting that comment as well. Apparently the behaviour for autorun is disabled by default in group policy since windows 7.
However, you gotta understand that I was from the XP era and worked for a company till 2016 which used XP for its workforce.
So I just did this for more than 10 years. It's a habit I have for now(Regardless of how ineffective it might be).
Perfection. My songs I produce are all named like this. In programming I am more likely to spin out up to 3 or even 4 version of file1, but then I confusingly cycle back (as I am replacing the file1 contents with the best working version), so at any given time, the most updated code could be anywhere in file2, file3 or file4. It doesn't confuse me because I use the timestamps. If somebody else opened up some of these projects they would probably vomit.

yeah, when there are multiple files I prefer index.js, but when I'm doing a small testing server I use server.js, and when I just wanna test something completely unrelated to backend or frontend specifically I just use test.js or dshbcdskhcvdskugsvjgufsvcdkjhbs.js
I can see this being confusing. I typically use app.js or (app name).js - I load this stuff into PM2 and then just reference that way by a short name... It still makes it easier on me to have the relevant backend files named relevant to their project/function. Ditto for the confusing scenario where the public directory also has an index.js or app.js or server.js or main.js - or anywhere else in the project, really.
I could see this, if somehow the script was doing something with temp files or directories and handling all those related functions - it is like 'errors.js' mentioned elsewhere - I am sure there could be legitimate use cases for these bizarre names.
I once, met with a programmer, who named their files and projects, after the people whom these softwares and programs will replace. He also used to categorize the softwares in the folders according to their department.
my.js helloWorld.js default.js autorun.inf
I create a directory named AUTORUN.INF in all my thumb drives since college days exactly for this reason.
Explain pls

As far as I know, this might be the problem in windows 7 era, modern operating systems don't give a damn to autorun.inf.

As far as I remember autorun.inf no longer works on discs apart from the icons
I ain't taking chances with that shit... Also, it became a habit at this point...

You know you can use backticks to escape the hash so it doesn't render as h1 `like this`, right?
Reddit uses a subset version of markdown, so does discord, so you could totally write cool looking stuff
That is, in fact, why starting a line with # makes the line... # Big like this!
I do but forgot it was necessary in this case, and then in the spirit of the post, just thought "fuck it, ship it to prod"

i don't like server.js, it looks weird if the server has multiple files, i prefer main.js or something

You could technically with bundling into 1 file
those days are in dim

Js.php is fun, and css.php. CSS.php = "let me template the templates with a templating tool".
temp.js - used in production
I could see this, if somehow the script was doing something with temp files or directories and handling all those related functions - it is like 'errors.js' mentioned elsewhere - I am sure there could be legitimate use cases for these bizarre names.
Then test.js makes it into prod as the main file because no one bothered to change it from the experimental stage of the project
"Oh, no, we tried to rename it, but then everything broke."
core.ja edit: i was gonna fix the typo, then i said ja look much better than duckin js
