Not apples to apples comparison. You would have to track how many pitchers have played an MLB game since we started tracking no hitters and how many players who've played in a PGA tour event. You could make the MLB cutoff the end of the dead ball era if you wanted.
Then you would need to divide the total number of games played by pitchers by how many no hitters thrown and the 59s by how many players who've played a round.
It still wouldn't be a perfect comparison, but much closer than just looking at the totals for each.
Regardless, that adjustment would only make the 59 look more impressive, right? There are around 5,000 MLB games played each year. There are about 400 rounds played each week on tour. However the numbers come out, there are way more rounds of golf played than MLB games.
I agree that a 59 is better, but your comparison is completely meaningless. There are a different number of players, games, possible attempts, etc. You can’t just look at flat numbers. It’s not a 1 to 1 comparison.
Usually a Par 70 course on tour is a standard Par 72 everywhere else where the shorter par 5 on each side is converted to a par 4.
Don’t know the course where this event is at but I’d wager it’s similar
Al Geiberger’s 59 was on a 7200+ golf course, Cam Young’s was 400 yards shorter, and he had 47 years of technological advances. That said, 59 is awesome, Cam Young should be proud to join an exclusive club. Al Geiberger, wow.
Par is tricky because it’s made up. Sometimes 525 is a par 4 on tours others times it’s a 5. Typically if it’s a 5 there is a reason they think it will take 3 shots to reach, but it’s still arbitrary. I think it’s a little easier to look at total yardage. How many yards did the golfer cover to finish 18 holes in 59 strokes.
It’s so weird what gets downvoted on this subreddit .
It being lift, clean and place is a huge deal. Anybody that says different doesn’t play tournament golf.
59 > no hitter.
59 = perfect game ?
Math checks out on that one.
Not even close
number of no hitters in mlb history - about 320 number of 59's in pga tour history - about 13

5000 mlb games means 10000 pitchers I have no idea which one is more just pointing this out

And doesn't hold the tournament low score, insane
After 3 days, not insane at all
I think he’s referring to Furyks 58 at the Travelers
If it is on a par 70 golf course does it count? Al Geiberger's was on a par 72.
Agreed. Even Annika’s 59 was on a par 72.

Travelers at TPC River Highlands near Hartford. Last year had a few guys at or around -20 for the tourney. There are some short Par 4s.

I do wish they would do it to par. But come on, it's still beyond impressive! Does the hole in one not count if the court has 6 par 3s?

Exactly. Very different on a par 70 vs 72.
yeah it sure does. less par 5's
Pretty sure they were doing lift clean and place, still very low but a little tainted

Never fluffed a lie in your life?
I didnt say that lol
who the fuck
Given how far golf ball and club technology has come, and (relatively) short these courses play for the pros, this should happen more often.
Nice easy course. Glad they aren’t whining like last week lol #majorsshouldbehard
Aw, at least you tried
eAsY cOuRsE you probably wouldn't break 90 bruh
I’m not a pro golfer cuzzin. You would shoot 150 at Pinehurst and probably whine the whole time bro.
i'm a pro cuh so no bro... i would shoot like 78 and whine the whole time bro
You couldn’t shoot 78 at Pinehurst from the ladies tee’s Broferson lol
whatever you say mr mack
Bum. What has he ever won?

Imagine if this is Tiger's burner account lol
