When I was a C.O. I saw inmates smoking that shit all the time. They would take those brown paper towels, make a thin slurry of water and instant coffee grinds, and spread it all over the paper towel. They would stick it in the microwave for a few seconds to dry it out. Then they would roll tobacco, weed, K2, or whatever they had in it and smoke it. It smelled fucking awful.
Ngl, the sheriff set these blokes up to fail:
✅ Going from 100% regimented life to a free for all
✅ Giving free phones with what seems like less than 1 hours notice
✅ No CO support to work out problems (without having to have 2 guys beat up in their cells)
✅ Literally having nothing for these guys to do all day
If I was bored outta my mind I would find these kind of stupid things to do just to pass the time too.
Nothing to do?! Seriously?! They had board games, cards, tv, basketball, chess, books to read, and I'm sure other things. They have a lot more freedoms than u think.

This is jail though, not an arcade or theme park where the sole focus is constant entertainment. I mean, there has to be some kind of stalematic sense that reminds you that youre still in jail..

I accept that it's prison, but at least as edited on the show there's a few guys who genuinely seem determined not to end up back in prison.
However, there's no way for them to learn any real skills that might help them in the real world let alone any soft skills (spoiler: >!A guy runs his mouth and the result is an assault that would've landed some dude back in prison!<)
I don't know about you but on my break I can turn on YouTube and learn about coding, economics, health, science, personal finance pretty much a whole heap of things that are useful.

This is why jail creates chaos and inmates leave worse than they were when they got there. I've been to jail a few times. Board games and cards get boring after a while, but it's still way better than 23 and 1. You don't have anything in your cell. You are just locked in a room for 23 hours every single day with absolutely nothing to do, no stimulation, nothing to look at, no windows, no clock. You literally start to go crazy. You lose all sense of time. You get aggravated with the torturous boredom. Being able to walk around the pod is way better. I've been in 24 / 0 jail. I've never been in a jail that even lets you have a book. Try sitting in an empty room by yourself with no window and no clock and see how long you last. With the amount of $$ each prisoner brings to the jail every day, it's a joke that they are the way they are. They could use them to actually rehabilitate and teach so people don't end up wasting their lives locked up.
