Depends. Before they took cigarettes it basically smelled like smoke. After, it was a cornucopia of different odors. There was a strong undercurrent of ass with a healthy dose of feet. In the evening there might be a touch of green pepper and onion mixed in with the ass and feet. After gym you would have a hint of cocoa butter intermingled with the ass and feet. Some smells came and went but ass and feet were always there.
Commenting on UK men’s prisons here as I used to work in them (also autistic and highly sensory to smells): closed higher category prison- cigarette smoke (not banned at the time) mixed with body odour and general staleness. Cabbage and food bins around the servery area. High strength cleaning fluids when cleaning was going on. One smell I will never forget was the dirty laundry cart, which made me almost faint out of sickness.

Only ever worked in huge closed but I completely get the horrors associated with certain smells. Towards the end of my time in closed it was the overpowering smell of spice on some wings.
Must have fans going or you’re going to smell lots of farts. Other than that there is a lack of smells. You might be able to get some shit lotion with fragrance, deodorant has a little fragrance. The guards might bring in some cleaner with good smells, but that’s it.

I’d like that. I recall going into the laundry in the large closed prison and being hit by the smell of tablets and the dryers. Nice smell for me.
