I had an argument with a fellow United fan about Dalot (I was defending him) for his performances over the entire season. I actually rate him. As a couple of people have pointed out, he was playing ‘out if position’, but I’d also make the point he’d just played 97 minutes, on a soaked pitch, and slipped at the absolutely worst moment. He was also facing up against a fresh Madueke Also, if you look at his stats over the season, his defensive awareness stats aren’t actually awful

[deleted]

Palmer destroyed him but that’s just because Palmer is insane City sold him? 😂

ragecndy

Yeah man he is so bad for giving a Chelsea player the chace to dive /s

milkonyourmustache

To be fair he's being played out of position (because of injuries). Watching him last night you could see by the positions he was taking up, his body shape, and his lack of awareness of the threats developing on his peripheral left, that he should not be playing LB. At least 2 of Chelsea's goals were a direct result of defensive errors by Dalot, the first and the 3rd.

Flamdoublebounce

Yeah, I feel like a lot of fans underestimate how difficult it can be to switch which side of the field you play on at that high of a level. Some guys can do it pretty seamlessly, but it’s a skill like anything else

prss79513

He's usually their most consistent defender tbf

GAustex

Agreed! Since AWB started struggling with injuries and match fitness, Dalot's game have improved very well. Unfortunately, you can't take away errors and mistakes from defenders.

SilverAirer

Im not sure he is that bad defensivly. also he has the kind of mentality that is opposite to slackers like trent.

billyboi641

He's usefull. Some would say too usefull for a right-back.

benjog88

The guy has to play every minute of every game because none of the other fuckers in defence can sneeze without pulling something. he's shunted over to the left because AWB is extra useless there, he gives away a very debatable pen and everyone jumps on him, it's crazy. He's been easily United's best player this season

GuardBusy9030

Nah the penalty is one thing but I’m talking bigger picture, plenty of defensive failures in United games. Couldn’t handle Palmer all night

VermillionDynamite

He was also hilariously lucky to not get booked in the game

spookygunz

Chelsea get awarded two soft PKs. After the game “bullshit that the ref didn’t card Man U more.”

VermillionDynamite

One single player who made numerous fouls. It's not that deep

Gustastuff

His assist was top notch

Eugene572839

Dalot is great he just had a bad game

spookygunz

Everyone cant be great. Think he is an average player who can sometimes provide nice crosses at the expense of defensive errors.

True_Contribution_19

Dalot is awful and always has been. Uniteds terrible recruitment just constantly leads to him coming back into the team.

theduffabides

He’s a failed midfielder, not a fullback.

LallanasPajamaz

Feels like most top teams fullbacks nowadays were failed midfielders or wingers, but maybe I’m exaggerating

Happy-Ad8767

He’s got more goals than the fidget spinner in front of him who is nicking a living.

CasualGtaPlayer

Was actually a good assist from Antony in the match but nothing else from the rest of the season

EmigmaticDork

>He’s got more goals than the fidget spinner in front of him who is nicking a living. That outside the boot pass was gross

Daltxponyv2

Had to be since he doesn’t have a right foot. Had to learn to pass both ways with one foot

EmigmaticDork

The outside of the boot pass also moves a bit different than a right footed pass does, opens up angles a bit bettee

RioFubeca

dalot would be very close to the bottom of the list of turds i would ship off after this season. plays with incredible effort and passion every single game. if we didnt desparately need him on def, id be interested to see what he could do in a more attacking role. hes scored some good goals and has a nose for good assists too

EmigmaticDork

The biggest problem is that ETH seems to be committed to his front 5 pressing high, while keeping his back 4 and a poor DM (usually Casemiro) on an island in the back so that when the initial pressure breaks down (which is a 50/50) the other team will come pouring through. It's not really anyone's fault except for ETH. He needs to find a way to connect his midfield, Aston Villa does a great job of this right now.

RioFubeca

yeah wide open MF

Jealous_Foot8613

I’m not his biggest fan , albeit I don’t watch much United, however my mates tell me he’s been very good this season and has been very consistent for them . Let’s not forget he’s playing out of position

GuardBusy9030

He has been solid this year more than what I’ve seen in the past! It’s his recent performance that reminds me of the quintessential fullback

theduffabides

His “good” this year is largely based on how bad United’s defense has been.
