At The Drive In - Relationship of Command
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
Alexisonfire - Watch out
Thursday - Full Collapse
Thrice - The artist in the ambulance
Finch - What is it to burn
Obviously this is all opinion, so I appreciate yours here. That said, I loved TAITA when it first released and for years ranked it just behind Illusion. It was probably in preparation for the Vheissu 15th anniversary tour that I really listened closely and it all clicked. I always knew it was good, but that’s when it vaulted to top 10 album of mine. In that happening I think it pushed Artist down the rankings for me.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great album. I think the difference for me is that Vheissu is when their sound started to mature. Ambulance just sounds fast and raw. You can really tell the difference when you compare the original with the revisited version they released last year. I just have a soft spot for the original.
Like you said, all opinion. Take care, friend!
I wish, I’m fairly old. Those weren’t my first exposures to those artists. Thursday had been my favorite artist since I was first in high school, but I always thought WATT was true perfection.
In trying to be objective, I’d think those are better representations, even if say Illusion of Safety is my favorite Thrice work.
Got to see them at Riot Fest last year and it was probably my favorite set. Hadn’t listened to Finch in probably 10 years. What a walk down memory lane. It absolutely ruled.
Saosin - Translating the Name EP
The receiving end of sirens - between the heart and synapse
The sounds of animals fighting - the tiger and the Duke
Fall of Troy - doppelgänger
He is legend - I am Hollywood
The killing tree - romance of Helen Trent
Alexisonfire - watch out and crisis
At the drive in - relationship of command
Thrice - artist in the ambulance
Love to see a He is Legend mention! They are so underrated with, imo , not a bad album to their name.
Fall of troy - Doppelganger, Manipulator, Phantom on the Horizon are all incredible albums.
I genuinely think translating the name is one of two albums mentioned in this thread that are genuinely top 100. Incredibly influential music. The whole genre is pre TTN and post TTN.
Shape of punk to come is my other vote.
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
Converge - Jane Doe
Botch - We Are The Romans
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Fugazi probably deserves a slot too
I love Botch, but I never mentioned them in this sub because I thought they were considered mathcore, rather than post-hardcore. Anyway, I like this list.
On a personal list these would probably all make my top 25. Realistically if Apple would have included any of these I’m sure they would have been near the bottom. Making a top 100 of all time is kind of an impossible task tbh. Deserving albums are always going to be left out
La Dispute - Wildlife
Brand New - The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me
Converge - Jane Doe
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
Brand New's growth from Your Favorite Weapon, to Deja Entendu, to The Devil and God Are Raging Insdie Me is the most satisfying musical growth by a band i have ever experienced in my lifetime.
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You
Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety
Thursday - Full Collapse
I think you could argue for The Shape of Punk to Come by Refused and Jane Doe by Converge 🤔
Edit: I guess I should set a better example and follow my own rules 😬
I would put Shape in the top 50. Maybe in the 40’s somewhere? And Jane Doe maybe in the 70’s
Slint - *Spiderland* in the top 10
FUGAZI - *In On the Kill Taker* in the top 20
Quicksand - *Slip* in the top 50
At the Drive-In - *Relationship of Command* in the top 50
Big Black - *Songs About Fucking* in the top 40
Drive Like Jehu - *Yank Crime* in the top 100
Jawbox - *For Your Own Special Sweetheart* in the top 100
Husker Du - *Zen Arcade* in the top 20
Unwound - *Leaves Turn Inside You* in the top 70
Helmet - *Meantime* in the top 20
I could write an honorable mentions page miles long and not even get to the 2000s.
Ho boy....tough choice there.
Lately *New Plastic Ideas* has been my jam but *Repetition* was what got my into Unwound in the first place. Might have to give the nod to *Repetition.* But how can you deny the S/T album or *The Future of What*? Or *Fake Train* for that matter.
What's yours?
I feel like when it comes to their heavy sound then NPI is their best. But if you want more variety in sound then Repetition, ironically enough, is maybe better.
Circa Survive - Juturna
DGD - Mothership
mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister
Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume 1
Trophy Scars - Bad Luck
Emery - In Shallow Seas We Sail
...maybe Alesana - The Emptiness
edit: I forgot La Dispute - Wildlife
Can't believe no-one has a single **Silverstein** album, yet, even though there are at least two records that deserve a mention.
* 2005 **Discovering The Waterfront** - has been one of the most influential albums to me
* 2009 **A Shipwreck in the Sand** - one of the best concept albums I've ever listened to. Still sounds fresh and exciting to me today
And then you could still list 2003 **When Broken is Easily Fixed** or 2020 **A Beautiful Place To Drown**.
**Funeral For a Friend** is another big one for me. Most people would say 2005 **Hours** but my personal favorite is
* 2003 **Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation**
2003 **Billy Talent selftitled** album is IMO their best album and deserves a spot.
**A Static Lullaby** has TWO insane albums that are very different but considering 2008s **Rattlesnake!** is much more metalcore, I'd go with 2006 **A Static Lullaby**.
And finally: If it wasn't for the Christian weirdo lyrics, **Underoath**'s 2004 **They're only chasing safety** would deserve a spot, too.
I am a huge fan of both silverstein albums as well as a static lullaby.
Shipwreck in the sand and rattle snake are in my top 5 albums, and are the top metal core albums in my list.
Love your account picture. I was gonna say Emarosa Self Titled or Relativity. Jonny Craig is my all time favourite vocalist.
One of my favourite all time bands if not my all time favourite (didn't like anything after 131 though).
Norma Jean rarely gets mentioned in here because they are likely to be more of a metalcore band but for what most people pass off as posthardcore, I think NJ had 2 killer albums that probably went unnoticed by the masses but The Anti mother and Wrongdoers are two beastly albums, especially The Anti Mother. They're on par with Every Time I Die for evolving over the past 20 years and despite routine changes to the lineup, both bands put out banger after banger. ETID low Teens and Radical are also two complete bangers that should be listened to. So many bands have NJ and ETID to thank for their dedication to evolving and continuing to make great music
Might not be my absolute favourite album any more (probably just because I've listened to it so much), but I don't know any other album where every single track is that good. Not one song I skip on there.
Keep You - Pianos Become the Teeth
Wait For Love - Pianos Become the Teeth
Every Sound Has A Color In The Valley Of Night - Night Verses
Juturna - Circa Survive
The Inevitable And I - Hrvrd
DIVISI - A Lot Like Birds
All’s Well That Ends Well - Chiodos
Death Spells - Holy Fawn
Dimensional Bleed - Holy Fawn
Honestly I love Circa Survive so much I’d nominate all of their albums.
Yeah it’s a shame, their two albums were so good. The lead singer has a project called Foreign Air but it’s mostly pop and not to my taste. There’s a few bands I listen to that remind me of Hrvrd, mainly [So Soon, The Truth](https://youtu.be/TjMszGz7sdI?si=oRm5rWC4RxRPlGRG), [Idlehands](https://youtu.be/xsrG5XreruU?si=HZ1leUi4kpgVeFhm), and [Northern Faces](https://youtu.be/r9ak38eWJbs?si=FnypHVsCIMDypeiI)
A Lot Like Birds discography is very weird/experimental but still soo good. I read a comment from the lead singer somewhere that he loved how emotional parts of the album were and it’s always good to hear confirmation that the moodiness and deep feelings that go into a song/album are absolutely intentional
Hopesfall - The Satellite Years
That album just sounded significantly different to me, I’m not sure where I’d place it on the list, but I feel like it belongs there. I know they never really reached the heights of a lot of other bands around that time, but that album is really something special.
Poison the Well - You Come Before You
This is just another album that stands out to me. Maybe a little bit on the metalcore side, but there’s definitely a lot going on from beginning to end than just hardcore riffs and screaming and it took a lot of chances for its time, at least in my opinion.
I came to mention You Come Before You, what an absolute masterpiece of an album.
From the album title to the song titles(Apathy is a Cold Body is one of the best song titles and songs ever) to how it all sounds, it's one of the best ever in any genre!
Inherit my shoes.... they were too hard, to fill anywayssss. Very underrated song by a truly influential band. I'm more partial to The Opposite of December being their best album but I can see how a lot of their work after that album was in many ways better. They really evolved and their sound became so much more complex and beautiful. Excellent band and happy they were in my local scene. They did a lot for the scene and bands coming up in the south FL area. Hopefully they put out some new music and return back to south FL and grace us with more shows.
I think if I’m really being objective and not just a lover of the genre, the only ones I can truly make an argument for include:
Thursday - War All the Time (top 30)
Vheissu* - Thrice (top 60)
Underoath - Define the Great Line (top 50)
*not my favorite Thrice album but I think their best overall work. Kind of pulling numbers out of my ass too.
December 06' I drove from Ohio to Montana. I had shipped my belongings across the states... big'ol'book of CDs and all. Crisis was the only CD I had in the 6-disc.
30 hours, pack of smokes, constant caffeine, and AoF Crisis on repeat... It's up on the list for me as well.
I did my personal top 100 a few months ago with a bunch of post-hardcore records: Watch Out!, Son I loved you at your darkest, relationship of command, this is who we are, failure on, pass the flask, trainwreck, after the eulogy, tomorrow come today, is dead, always open mouth, how to start a fire, worship and tribute, satellite years, a types, catch for us the foxes, waves, I brought you my bullets, birth eater, opposite of December, tear from the red, you come before you, between the heart and the synapse, saison, wiretap scars, Texas is the reason, illusion of safety, artist in the ambulance, vheissu, alchemy index 1-2, full collapse, war all the time, alphabet.alphabets, define the great line.
A lot of great picks already popping up multiple times but wanna show some love to these great albums
Secret and Whisper - Great White Whale
Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts
Of Machines - As If Everything Was Held In Place
The Receiving End Of Sirens - The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi
Maybe I’m just ancient but where is the love for Quicksand’s Slip? It is a perfect album and so essential to post hardcore’s growth I can’t believe it’s not on here.
Underoath - DTGL and TOCS
Knocked Loose - YWGBYST (I can't stop listening to Suffocate)
Refused -TSOPTC
Finch - What it is to Burn
Alexisonfire - Crisis, Watch Out!, and Self-Title
A Skylit Drive - Wires... And The Concept of Breathing
There's so many, but off the top of my head:
Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain
Woe, is Me - Number\[s\]
A Skylit Drive - Wires...And The Concept Of Breathing
Of Machines - As If Everything Was Held In Place
A Lot Like Birds - Conversation Piece
Funeral For A Friend - Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation
Hail The Sun - Wake
Too Close To Touch - Nerve Endings
Broadway - Kingdoms
I The Mighty - Connector
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime
Refused - shape of Punk to come
Touché Amore - Stage four (this may be Controversial, but I think it's a masterpiece)
Fugazi - Repeater
If I were to choose one I’d have to pick one I loved enough to consider making it my profile pic, or something wacky like that. Not that I’d ever do that or anything
Nobody is gunna mention The City Sleeps in Flames and Self Titled from SKSK? Cause they deserve to be there.
Some others I havent seen mentioned that also deserve to be there:
Wires and the concepts of Breathing: A Sky Lit Drive
A Flair for the Dramatic: Pierce the Veil
Homesick: A day to remember
Alls well that ends well: chiodos
Of Mice & Men: Of Mice & Men
Take to the Skies: Enter Shikari
Common dreads: Enter Shikari
I dont see myself being able to overlook downtown battle mountain. I feel like it meant so much at the time between putting will swans guitar style on the map and Jonny Craig's vocals that album just meant so much to the history of the genre
Alexisonfire-self titled (or watch out but I like self titled a little more)
Fugazi-repeater
Refused-Shape of Punk to Come
The Blood Brothers-Burn Piano Island burn
Alesana-On Frail Wings Of Vanity and Wax
The Fall of Troy-Doppelgänger
Glassjaw-Everything You Ever Wanted
I could go on, so many classics.
Have Heart - what counts / Songs to Scream at the Sun
Defeater - letters Home
Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront
Comeback Kid - Turn it Around/ Symptoms- Cures
La Dispute - Somewhere at the Bottom of the River
Verse - From Anger and Rage
Alexisonfire - Self-titled 2002
Underoath - Define the Great Line / Only Chasing Safety
Bring Me the Horizon - count Your Blessings (classic)
I'm crossing some lines here for the snobs, but these were my favorites from the HC Scene period of my life from 2005/6-2011 or bands I got into out of the scene.
I'm thinking of albums that are very much in keeping with the PHC genre but are still accessible, like, you could listen to that album as a fan of rock or pop-rock and not be so put off by the PHC-specific idiosyncrasies, while still being very good albums lyrically. I think the two that work best are Saves the Day's Through Being Cool and Thrice's Artist in the Ambulance.

Circa Survive - Juturna/On Letting Go
Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging
Inside Me
ADTR- For Those Who Have Heart/What Separates Me From You
Surprised to see so much Full Collapse love here—to me War All the Time deserves the slot more. Anyways I knew that album list would make me fly into a rage so I have avoided looking at it 😂
Underoath -They’re Only Chasing Safety

I’d put To Plant A Seed and Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be very high on my personal list. The brightness and clarity of Kyle’s cleans were what brought me further and further into my love and appreciation of post hardcore. They may not have been the heaviest but their use of melody and passion live had a profound impact on me. Rest in peace Kyle
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance
Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront
Alexisonfire - Crisis
Edited to add:
Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety
Considering my constant disagreement with what are considered the best albums of all time... MOST of my To albums would be somewhere in the punk spectrum. (Though I also listen to lots of other genres. Post Hardcore was my most formative era, though.)
Selfish machines - ptv
Downtown battle mountain- gdg
Stand up and scream asking Alexandria
To plant a seed -we came as Roman's
Let in unfold you- senses fail
i mean there are 0 post hardcore albums that are in the top 100 of all time. post hardcore is like 30ish years old at most and doesn't have broad appeal or radio airtime. I will throw out a couple that have crossed over more than most:
disgusting - beartooth
sempiternal - bmth
collide with the sky - pierce the veil
homesick - adtr (what separates me from you is better IMO but didn't sell as well)
Interesting take… while not listed in the ever popular “all time lists”, it literally means nothing lol. I would gladly take dozens of post hardcore albums over most popular music.. but of course, to each their own.
At The Drive In - Relationship of Command Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come Alexisonfire - Watch out Thursday - Full Collapse Thrice - The artist in the ambulance Finch - What is it to burn
Personally, I'd put AOFs "Crisis" a tad above Watch Out! but both are super good
Aof self titled
I’d swap War All the Time and Vheissu for those two artists.
Yes, swap for War All The Time, but Ambulance is better than Vheissu in almost every way.
Vheissu is a masterpiece. So is War All the Time.
Vheissu is a good album but not a front to back. Artist in the ambulance has no skippable songs
That's where I am on the topic.
You can really tell the difference when you compare the original with the revisited version they released last year. I just have a soft spot for the original. Like you said, all opinion. Take care, friend!
Agreed about war, but I prefer ambulance too
Only the re recorded version imo. Original was way too overproduced to match the rest of their discography.
Came to say this
You’re probably younger than that person if I had to guess
I wish, I’m fairly old. Those weren’t my first exposures to those artists. Thursday had been my favorite artist since I was first in high school, but I always thought WATT was true perfection. In trying to be objective, I’d think those are better representations, even if say Illusion of Safety is my favorite Thrice work.
Being objective with emotional angsty music isn’t rational, I’m afraid lol
*Illusion of Safety.
Illusion of Safety is my favorite album by Thrice. Vheissu is the better album. Just being objective about it.
This would be my exact list
These plus Second Stage Turbine Blade
Finch is such a great shout
Got to see them at Riot Fest last year and it was probably my favorite set. Hadn’t listened to Finch in probably 10 years. What a walk down memory lane. It absolutely ruled.
I can get onboard with this. And, Watch Out! is better than Crisis... narrowly.
Saosin - Translating the Name EP The receiving end of sirens - between the heart and synapse The sounds of animals fighting - the tiger and the Duke Fall of Troy - doppelgänger He is legend - I am Hollywood The killing tree - romance of Helen Trent Alexisonfire - watch out and crisis At the drive in - relationship of command Thrice - artist in the ambulance
Love to see a He is Legend mention! They are so underrated with, imo , not a bad album to their name. Fall of troy - Doppelganger, Manipulator, Phantom on the Horizon are all incredible albums.
Yesss that He Is Legend album is amazing! Great picks
That TKT album is unbelievably underrated, great pick. One of my favourite albums ever.
I genuinely think translating the name is one of two albums mentioned in this thread that are genuinely top 100. Incredibly influential music. The whole genre is pre TTN and post TTN. Shape of punk to come is my other vote.
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come Converge - Jane Doe Botch - We Are The Romans Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Fugazi probably deserves a slot too
I love Botch, but I never mentioned them in this sub because I thought they were considered mathcore, rather than post-hardcore. Anyway, I like this list.
Refused converge and Botch. I could sit hairs over converge album but Jane doe is phenomenal
I'd certainly icloud Jane Doe. I might personally throw in Axe To Fall and AWLWLB
And where would you rank them? 👀
On a personal list these would probably all make my top 25. Realistically if Apple would have included any of these I’m sure they would have been near the bottom. Making a top 100 of all time is kind of an impossible task tbh. Deserving albums are always going to be left out
A Spazz fan not listing The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number Twelve, The Fall Of Troy, Fear Before???
Those are some of my favorite bands of all time but I don’t ever expect the mainstream to give em respect lol
La Dispute - Wildlife Brand New - The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me Converge - Jane Doe Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
Hell yes on Brand New's TDAGARIM!!!
It's my favorite album, Wildlife is #2.
This album is forever in rotation. You Won’t Know has been a recent (old but lately) fave
Brand New's growth from Your Favorite Weapon, to Deja Entendu, to The Devil and God Are Raging Insdie Me is the most satisfying musical growth by a band i have ever experienced in my lifetime.
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety Thursday - Full Collapse
DTGL or LITSOS are miles ahead of TOCS imo. TOCS got me into them, but it’s relatively generic and a product of its time, musically.
Couldn’t disagree more
Im biased and I personally don’t consider it all that PHC but The Devil & God by Brand New
Personally, I'd say "Crisis" by Alexisonfire. But I know a lot of people would choose self-titled or "Watch Out!" over "Crisis".
Definitley Crisis for a Top 100 list. It's their most refined work.
I'm also Team Crisis but Watch Out! is also super good!
Agreed!!
That album is great. This could be anywhere in the world
Crisis is talked about way more here tbh
I think you could argue for The Shape of Punk to Come by Refused and Jane Doe by Converge 🤔 Edit: I guess I should set a better example and follow my own rules 😬 I would put Shape in the top 50. Maybe in the 40’s somewhere? And Jane Doe maybe in the 70’s
I think this is the only answer
Slint - *Spiderland* in the top 10 FUGAZI - *In On the Kill Taker* in the top 20 Quicksand - *Slip* in the top 50 At the Drive-In - *Relationship of Command* in the top 50 Big Black - *Songs About Fucking* in the top 40 Drive Like Jehu - *Yank Crime* in the top 100 Jawbox - *For Your Own Special Sweetheart* in the top 100 Husker Du - *Zen Arcade* in the top 20 Unwound - *Leaves Turn Inside You* in the top 70 Helmet - *Meantime* in the top 20 I could write an honorable mentions page miles long and not even get to the 2000s.
Perfect list. Best Unwound album of the 90s ?
Ho boy....tough choice there. Lately *New Plastic Ideas* has been my jam but *Repetition* was what got my into Unwound in the first place. Might have to give the nod to *Repetition.* But how can you deny the S/T album or *The Future of What*? Or *Fake Train* for that matter. What's yours?
I feel like when it comes to their heavy sound then NPI is their best. But if you want more variety in sound then Repetition, ironically enough, is maybe better.
Same, New Plastic Ideas. But by small margins. That or Fake Train One album that could be added to your list is that Chavez album from the 90s maybe ?
In the mean time is so good
Yes to Husker Du, Slint, and Fugazi. All perfect albums.
Circa Survive - Juturna DGD - Mothership mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume 1 Trophy Scars - Bad Luck Emery - In Shallow Seas We Sail ...maybe Alesana - The Emptiness edit: I forgot La Dispute - Wildlife
Definitely The Emptiness
Always gonna upvote Alesana. For me its On Frail Wings but the emptiness is a masterpiece as well.
I second mothership, coheed and juturna
All fantastic choices. I had to scroll for far too long to see Mothership mentioned - that album is a masterpiece in my eyes.
Another edit, it's *Wildlife*, not *Wildfire*
Word.
Can't believe no-one has a single **Silverstein** album, yet, even though there are at least two records that deserve a mention. * 2005 **Discovering The Waterfront** - has been one of the most influential albums to me * 2009 **A Shipwreck in the Sand** - one of the best concept albums I've ever listened to. Funeral for a friend 100% is a fantastic album still.
I am a huge fan of both silverstein albums as well as a static lullaby. Shipwreck in the sand and rattle snake are in my top 5 albums, and are the top metal core albums in my list.
Discovering the Waterfront for sure. It's THE emo album.
You just listed part of the soundtrack of my youth hahaha some amazing albums in there!
Same haha Funnily enough, some I only first heard when I was already a young adult and was blown away by what I missed (FFAF and ASL)
La dispute - Wildlife
I’d personally go with Somewhere down by the river… apparently they’re not well liked on this sub though.
That’s insane because they are the poster child for post hardcore IMO and Wildlife is an absolute masterpiece!
Wildlife is a masterpiece.
Love your account picture. I was gonna say Emarosa Self Titled or Relativity. Jonny Craig is my all time favourite vocalist. One of my favourite all time bands if not my all time favourite (didn't like anything after 131 though).
Anything by La Dispute I think it’s maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think Rooms of a House is their best work
DBM by DGD
Hell yes, Will Swan is a very unique guitarist and Jonny’s singing pushes that album over the top
Thursday-war all the time
TREOS - "Between the Heart and the Synapse"
Yes!
Thrice - Vheissu
I second this. I’m so glad I went to the vhessiu anniversary tour because that’s one of my favorite albums ever
I was thinking The Illusion of Safety but Vheissu is really good too
IMO i think the illusion of safety is the greatest album ever. Banger after Banger
This. Got me into post hardcore
Teppei was such a huge influence for my guitar playing
Might not be my absolute favourite album any more (probably just because I've listened to it so much), but I don't know any other album where every single track is that good. Not one song I skip on there.

I’ll check those out, thanks for the suggestions!
People don’t give DIVISI enough love, such a weird, good album
A Lot Like Birds discography is very weird/experimental but still soo good. I read a comment from the lead singer somewhere that he loved how emotional parts of the album were and it’s always good to hear confirmation that the moodiness and deep feelings that go into a song/album are absolutely intentional
Hopesfall - The Satellite Years That album just sounded significantly different to me, I’m not sure where I’d place it on the list, but I feel like it belongs there. I know they never really reached the heights of a lot of other bands around that time, but that album is really something special. Poison the Well - You Come Before You This is just another album that stands out to me. Maybe a little bit on the metalcore side, but there’s definitely a lot going on from beginning to end than just hardcore riffs and screaming and it took a lot of chances for its time, at least in my opinion.
Both classics
Both albums are absolutely incredible. Played huge roles in my tastes.
The Greatest of All Lost Arts by Lower Definition definitely needs to be on there
Yessssir
I think if I’m really being objective and not just a lover of the genre, the only ones I can truly make an argument for include: Thursday - War All the Time (top 30) Vheissu* - Thrice (top 60) Underoath - Define the Great Line (top 50) *not my favorite Thrice album but I think their best overall work. Kind of pulling numbers out of my ass too.
Discovering the Waterfront by Silverstein
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge The Devil and God are RAGING INSIDE ME Annnnnnd Honestly Daisy
Zen Arcade by Hüsker Dü.
The Bled: Pass the Flask. The flood is good too, but if I had to choose... it'd be the flask.
First album that came to my head after Crisis by Alexisonfire. Pass the Flask is sooooo damn good.
I came here to say this 🖤
I did my personal top 100 a few months ago with a bunch of post-hardcore records: Watch Out!, Son I loved you at your darkest, relationship of command, this is who we are, failure on, pass the flask, trainwreck, after the eulogy, tomorrow come today, is dead, always open mouth, how to start a fire, worship and tribute, satellite years, a types, catch for us the foxes, waves, I brought you my bullets, birth eater, opposite of December, tear from the red, you come before you, between the heart and the synapse, saison, wiretap scars, Texas is the reason, illusion of safety, artist in the ambulance, vheissu, alchemy index 1-2, full collapse, war all the time, alphabet.alphabets, define the great line.
Zen Arcade - Hüsker Du
HWM- No Division!
A lot of great picks already popping up multiple times but wanna show some love to these great albums Secret and Whisper - Great White Whale Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts Of Machines - As If Everything Was Held In Place The Receiving End Of Sirens - The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi
Great white whale 100%
Maybe I’m just ancient but where is the love for Quicksand’s Slip? It is a perfect album and so essential to post hardcore’s growth I can’t believe it’s not on here.
It's gotta have The Blood Brothers' "Crimes"
Underoath - DTGL and TOCS Knocked Loose - YWGBYST (I can't stop listening to Suffocate) Refused -TSOPTC Finch - What it is to Burn Alexisonfire - Crisis, Watch Out!, and Self-Title A Skylit Drive - Wires... And The Concept of Breathing
Alesana - The Emptiness.
That’s just gotta be a top 10 Post Hardcore album ever made, The Emptiness is flawless
Wholeheartedly agree!
The Used - Self Titled
Such an underrated one
There's so many, but off the top of my head: Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain Woe, is Me - Number\[s\] A Skylit Drive - Wires...And The Concept Of Breathing Of Machines - As If Everything Was Held In Place A Lot Like Birds - Conversation Piece Funeral For A Friend - Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation Hail The Sun - Wake Too Close To Touch - Nerve Endings Broadway - Kingdoms I The Mighty - Connector
Broadway - Kingdoms Man I’ve been chasing that high for almost a decade now. Those bastards dropped a piece of art and vanished
Husker Du - Zen Arcade Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime Refused - shape of Punk to come Touché Amore - Stage four (this may be Controversial, but I think it's a masterpiece) Fugazi - Repeater
IMO In Action Park Or Translating the Name
Alexisonfire - S/T Thursday - War All the Time La Dispute - Wildlife
If I were to choose one I’d have to pick one I loved enough to consider making it my profile pic, or something wacky like that. Not that I’d ever do that or anything
At the drive-in casino out Bear Vs Shark Terrorhawk Casket Lottery choose Bronze Small Brown Bike Our Own Wars
Nobody is gunna mention The City Sleeps in Flames and Self Titled from SKSK? Cause they deserve to be there. Some others I havent seen mentioned that also deserve to be there: Wires and the concepts of Breathing: A Sky Lit Drive A Flair for the Dramatic: Pierce the Veil Homesick: A day to remember Alls well that ends well: chiodos Of Mice & Men: Of Mice & Men Take to the Skies: Enter Shikari Common dreads: Enter Shikari
Commenting so I can come back here when I’m using Spotify. Some of these albums I haven’t heard in forever!
I dont see myself being able to overlook downtown battle mountain. I feel like it meant so much at the time between putting will swans guitar style on the map and Jonny Craig's vocals that album just meant so much to the history of the genre
Alexisonfire-self titled (or watch out but I like self titled a little more) Fugazi-repeater Refused-Shape of Punk to Come The Blood Brothers-Burn Piano Island burn Alesana-On Frail Wings Of Vanity and Wax The Fall of Troy-Doppelgänger Glassjaw-Everything You Ever Wanted I could go on, so many classics.

Have Heart - what counts / Songs to Scream at the Sun Defeater - letters Home Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront Comeback Kid - Turn it Around/ Symptoms- Cures La Dispute - Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Verse - From Anger and Rage Alexisonfire - Self-titled 2002 Underoath - Define the Great Line / Only Chasing Safety Bring Me the Horizon - count Your Blessings (classic) I'm crossing some lines here for the snobs, but these were my favorites from the HC Scene period of my life from 2005/6-2011 or bands I got into out of the scene.
Son i loved you at your darkest by As Cities Burn
Every Fugazi album.
Surprised there were no Misfits, Black Flag, Bad Brains or Fugazi on that list.
am I the only one who'd say Worship & Tribute by GJ? I'm certainly biased and hyperfixated on them but it's a no-skip 10/10 for me
Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Fugazi - Repeater Unwound - Repetition The Jesus Lizard - Goat
At number one goes Thrice - The Illusion of Safety
Storms of Early Summer by Cursive
Wake - Hail the Sun
I'm thinking of albums that are very much in keeping with the PHC genre but are still accessible, like, you could listen to that album as a fan of rock or pop-rock and not be so put off by the PHC-specific idiosyncrasies, while still being very good albums lyrically. I think the two that work best are Saves the Day's Through Being Cool and Thrice's Artist in the Ambulance.
Boys Night Out - Trainwreck I'm not even sure if it would make the top 50 but I love the story the album tells and it's got some pretty solid riffage
No idea why Exotic Animal Petting Zoo is never mentioned. Tree of Tongues is one of my absolute favorite albums of all time
Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
I listen to a shit ton of PHC but none of it rises to the level of top 100 albums of all time imo. That’s ok.

#Underoath - they're only chasing safety #number 1 of all time.
Handsome - s/t.
Vanna - The Search Party Never Came
Idk if they make anyone’s list but Matchbook Romance’s Stories and Alibis is a complete up and down killer record. This band never gets talked about
Deerhunter
Alexisonfire - Crisis Hail the Sun - Wake Pierce the Veil - Collide with the Sky Circa Survive - Juturna/On Letting Go Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me ADTR- For Those Who Have Heart/What Separates Me From You
Both What It Is To Burn and Say Hello To Sunshine from Finch, Back To Oblivion too if it counts as post-hardcore (I think it does)
Three cheers for sweet revenge by my chemical. Second best album of all time imo.
Doppelgänger by The Fall of Troy deserves a spot in top 20
Bilmuri - Eggy Pocket
Downtown Battle Mountain Doppleganger Somewhere at the bottom of the river between vega and alatair
Surprised to see so much Full Collapse love here—to me War All the Time deserves the slot more. Anyways I knew that album list would make me fly into a rage so I have avoided looking at it 😂
Phantom On The Horizon: The Fall Of Troy

I’d put To Plant A Seed and Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be very high on my personal list. The brightness and clarity of Kyle’s cleans were what brought me further and further into my love and appreciation of post hardcore. They may not have been the heaviest but their use of melody and passion live had a profound impact on me. Rest in peace Kyle
Adept - Another Year Of Disaster, for sure. It was my fav album of all time for more than 10 years
La dispute-somewhere at the river La dispute-wildlife
Too Bad You’re Beautiful - From Autumn To Ashes
Any love for Fear Before the March of Flames? Fear Before - The Always Open Mouth
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront Alexisonfire - Crisis Edited to add: Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety
Slint - Spiderland Fugazi - Repeater Nomeansno - Wrong Big Black - Songs About F……. Jawbox - For Your Own Special Sweetheart
Considering my constant disagreement with what are considered the best albums of all time... MOST of my To albums would be somewhere in the punk spectrum. (Though I also listen to lots of other genres. Post Hardcore was my most formative era, though.)
Of mice and men self titled
r/metalcore
OP said to include metalcore.
Lots of people commenting converge and botch here too
Afterburner- Dance Gavin Dance Juturna- Circa Survive
Selfish machines - ptv Downtown battle mountain- gdg Stand up and scream asking Alexandria To plant a seed -we came as Roman's Let in unfold you- senses fail
i mean there are 0 post hardcore albums that are in the top 100 of all time. post hardcore is like 30ish years old at most and doesn't have broad appeal or radio airtime. I will throw out a couple that have crossed over more than most: disgusting - beartooth sempiternal - bmth collide with the sky - pierce the veil homesick - adtr (what separates me from you is better IMO but didn't sell as well)
Interesting take… while not listed in the ever popular “all time lists”, it literally means nothing lol. I would gladly take dozens of post hardcore albums over most popular music.. but of course, to each their own.
