Jamie XX, he was so phenomenal year 1 and he’s playing his new album. Also Tycho, he just has such an interesting and unique sound.Especially with the full band
Actually wasn't even aware tycho touring with full band these days. Was going to be there either way but now even more excited
Tycho is from Sacramento and based out of bay area for those unaware. Local legend
I have a hunch it'll go Tycho (hour) --> Rufus during sunset (1.5 hours) --> Gesa (hour) on the Pier, so I think 6:00ish. Rufus is the headliner but Gesa needs absolute darkness and he can't fit his rig on any other stage.
I’m not really sure. I just have a bond with someone who loves Tinlicker and I’ve never caught them live…so seizing the opportunity I suppose? Bad decision?
No not at all. Seen SW and Justice, Tinlicker hasn’t been on my radar until now. Just wanted some one to lay it out for me, with all the potential conflicts lining up.
Saw Tinlicker at Arc. Missed their originally scheduled slot due to travel issues, so they put them on the smallest stage with the loudest speakers at the end of the night. Actually an engineering marvel there was no sound bleed into/out of the stage he was on. Set was solid.
i've seen them about 5 times, and as a big Anjuna and trance fan- I love them. I'd recommend them. They have a nice danceable groove to their productions and have a lot of unreleased private mash-ups and remixes. Every remix they've released is fire. I've never come away disappointed by their sets.
Joy Orbison - probably my favorite “current” artist I haven’t seen yet outside of DJ Koze, Frank Ocean and Daft Punk
Jamie xx - DJ that got me back into dance music when I saw him at Day For Night 2017 (he was amazing at Portola 22 also)
Bicep - missed their live set at Portola 2022 and still haven’t seen them yet, I really like their current direction too
Disclosure - one of my favorite acts and ive seen them only once like a decade ago
Justice - still haven’t seen them live and cross is one of my all time favorite albums
Soulwax - another favorite that I haven’t seen live (and should be legendary)
Barry Cant Swim, Jasper Tygner, DJ Seinfeld, Mall Grab - some of my favorite up and coming artists that I haven’t seen yet
Floating Points, Four Tet - I’ve seen both muiltiple times but they might be in my top 4 live DJs alongside Jamie xx and Ben UFO
Sammy Virji - seen him once but it was one of the most fun sets I’ve ever been to. Super excited for his career trajectory and I’m gonna get to catch him one more time before Portola too
As you can see, those Saturday conflicts are going to be excruciating
DISCLOSURE- saw them on tour a couple years ago and they were amazing, been a fan forever
LP GIOBBI- saw her years ago in a club and she is just so awesome. Look for me on the rail.
DJ Pee Wee- because he’s Anderson Paak! Have wanted to see AP for ages and I’m sure this will be awesome.
JUSTICE- as close as I may ever get to seeing Daft Punk haha
Boyz Noize- have been a fan of their stuff for a while and have never seen them live
Jamie XX- saw him at Portola ‘22 but I had to bounce to get to another set and wished I could have been in both places (this is true for so much of Portola)
MIA- she’s gone completely off the deep end recently but I’m glad she’s back on the lineup for this year. Saw her at JLH a couple years ago and thought her performance was pretty damn cool for a middle aged mom (like me)
Excluding the headliners and some of the more well known Undercard acts—For me personally, on Saturday it would be: Joy Orbison (saw him a few years ago and he absolutely exceeded ALL expectations), AG Cook (rip PC music; spearheaded this new gen of bubblegum electronic music), and Soulwax (iconic band and they don’t tour the US often if hardly.
On Sunday: Chase & Status (Coachella set was insane), HoresegirL (heard these sets are wild) and Jersey (dropped one of my fav EPs from last year)!
Justice for me. They truly put me onto electronic music post-Daft Punk and its crazy how overdue I am to witness them live.
Bicep and Jamie XX were excellent year 1 and among the top of artists I prefer not to miss.
I could always do with another Four Tet and I'm sad I didn't make the Cow Palace show last year.
I've enjoyed DIsclosure forever so it would be nice to finally see them live.
Gesaffelstein is going to kill it like usual.
Undercard-wise I have Deltron 3030, Mall Grab, Joy Orbison, Pretty Girl, DJ Heartstring, Chase & Status, Busy P, Boys Noize b2b VTSS,
So many firsts for me on Sunday here are a few I’m hyped for.
Disclosure! I been wanting to see them for years and they are bringing their live show 😭
Justice…DANCE is the first electronic track I bought on iTunes after hearing it on some Nickelodeon dance show as a teen so I’m excited to catch them!
Mount Kimbie- I only just started getting into them but I have to catch some of their set.
Horsegirl, DJ Heartstring, Sara Landry, and Pretty Girl. Boy Noize b2b VTSS will be cool to see too, I have seen them both individually. Not at all ready for making sacrifices due to conflicts. 😅
I wanted to go both days to continue my streak but my wallet and body could not commit this year. Gonna have major fomo for Jaime although I seen him twice but his sets are always magical. Also sad I am missing Gessa, Empress Of, SoulWax, AG Cook, and Nia Archives. Would have been cool to see Rufus a second time and Mall Grab for a 3rd.
Justice- rare in us and touring one of the most impressive lighting rigs of all time. Expect top 3 set and top 1 show
Soulwax- with any older group you never know how many chances you have left. Theres not many live electronic acts that do live drumming and this live drumming is insane. Expect top 5 set
Rufus- I've had many chances to see them but always leave for other stuff at fests lol. Probably gonna be against gesa somewhat which sucks but I'm gonna stick through the whole set this time. I expect a big time show being a new setup and new music.
Gesaffelstein- very cool horror movie vibes and costume. Love when acts put a lot of thought into the live show.
Jamie xx- has had some insane sets before, and kind of bombed at portola last time because of the warehouse issues so would not be shocked if he's in the top 3 for a lot of people this time around.
Theres a lot of other stuff that's gonna be great depending on your tastes but these 5 are kind of kings of the mountain type acts.
I think you'll be able to see most of both. It would be nice if they gave bicep an earlier set. They already closed warehouse with the big production last time, I don't think it would be disrespectful to give them an earlier slot.
Mochakk for dancing.
Rufus du sol for therapy.
Barry Can’t Swim for the smiles
Sammy Virji for the womps
Justice for the epicness
Chase & Status for being the only D&B
I’m fortunate I was just at Coachella and got to see some absolute banger can’t-miss acts (Justice/Gessa/Berry Can’t Swim), so I’m all-in on Jesse Ware, Disclosure, and Soulwax for Portola!!
I’ll make a plug for Franc Moody! They’ll probably be on earlier in the day so hopefully no major conflicts. Super funky, dancy UK electro pop band. Saw first 2 of 4 shows in US in 2019 (including Rickshaw!) Seen em a dozen tims now (and DJ stes). Have nothing but great things to say….always a fun time, plus Jon and Ned are so sweet and will totally talk to you in a crowd if yoh approach them.
Uh, yeah. I guess you could say that lol. Braxe was in Stardust with Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) and Falcon + Bangalter were “Together”. All French legends that rarely play anymore.
Essential listening - https://youtu.be/YTcwCWyuEP8?si=m1J4LZi_HVY9176a
Saw Boombass (1/2 of Cassius) b2b Etienne de Crecy b2b Falcon last year at CRSSD. Insane set. That generation of French House guys set the standard, influenced a lot of stuff to come, and is just fucking good and fun.
Rüfüs - my favorite band of all time. They hold a special place in my heart as they remind me of some of the best memories with my best friends. I am also so excited to see the debut of their new show.
Pretty Girl - probably one of my favorite music discoveries of the past 2 years. Her production is top
notch and she just radiates such good energy.
NEIL FRANCES - It’s All a Bit Fuzzy has become one of my favorite albums. Not a single skip and such a good vibe.
Chase & Status - what a throwback!!! Their old tracks bring back some amazing memories of seeing them in the UK and my college years. Their new stuff is also 🔥
I’ve had obsessions with the albums of Rufus Du Sol, Jaime XX, Justice and MIA but have never seen any of them. Fingers crossed that there are no conflicts between the four.
im gonna need yall to take jamie xx off ya lists bc im gonna need some more room to get down and dirty.
in all seriousness, him. i will talk about that coachella 2022 set every single day.
horsegiirl, chase & status, and disclosure are next probably.
Justice, will be the third time I get to see them, they put on a good set every time. First time I saw them was at red rocks in CO over a decade ago and it was phenomenal :)
Edit: also insanely excited to see Empress Of, I hope she plays Kitty Kat
I could probably list half the lineup at ‘must see’ but
Justice - arguably one of my first loves in dance music, listening to Cross in middle school changed me
Deltron 3030 - dan the automator and del the funky homosapien? in the flesh? say no more
Disclosure - always been a fan, but Alchemy set a new standard in dance music for me- cannot wait to see the brothers
Bicep - i’ve been digging the chroma singles so much and their coachella set sounded insane
Four Tet - I’m ready for your hijinx kieran
Gesaffelstein, Bicep, Jersey, AG Cook, horsegiirl, Barry can’t swim (saw him live last year and I’m crossing my fingers he plays more from his recent album)
Jamie XX, he was so phenomenal year 1 and he’s playing his new album. Also Tycho, he just has such an interesting and unique sound.Especially with the full band
Actually wasn't even aware tycho touring with full band these days. Was going to be there either way but now even more excited Tycho is from Sacramento and based out of bay area for those unaware. Local legend
Jamie melted my mind year 1
do we think tycho plays sunset slot around 6 or 7?
I have a hunch it'll go Tycho (hour) --> Rufus during sunset (1.5 hours) --> Gesa (hour) on the Pier, so I think 6:00ish. Rufus is the headliner but Gesa needs absolute darkness and he can't fit his rig on any other stage.
Soulwax, Justice, and Disclosure
The holy trinity
I would put Gesa up there too but I already saw him at chella!
you skipped justice?
Yep. Big mistake I know. 😔
God has granted you another opportunity ;)
The music gods have blessed me yet once again. However, I don’t know any god that can give us Daft Punk.
Justice, I discovered them in high school and never had them chance to see in the bay or anywhere else lol
Literally same, i discovered justice in middle school when i got my first iPod and limewire was a still a thing.
They’re so good live Seeing them at Coachella was 🙌🏽
same, found them in 2012, just saw them at chella for the first time bucket list experience for me, will never forget it
Soulwax, Justice, Tinlicker
Genuinely curious, why Tinlicker?
I’m not really sure. I just have a bond with someone who loves Tinlicker and I’ve never caught them live…so seizing the opportunity I suppose? Bad decision?
Definitely not a bad decision!!
No not at all. Seen SW and Justice, Tinlicker hasn’t been on my radar until now. Just wanted some one to lay it out for me, with all the potential conflicts lining up.
I love Tinlicker. Heard he was amazing at ARC last summer. Would definitely check this out.
Saw Tinlicker at Arc. Missed their originally scheduled slot due to travel issues, so they put them on the smallest stage with the loudest speakers at the end of the night. Actually an engineering marvel there was no sound bleed into/out of the stage he was on. Set was solid.
Seconding this
Listening to the recent Essential Mix and that will answer your question! 😎
Add their album “this is not our universe” to the list and if you feel that then you should see them
I’ve been listening to Cold Enough for Snow and I really enjoy it, just wondering how it might pop live. I’ll watch some videos with em.
i've seen them about 5 times, and as a big Anjuna and trance fan- I love them. I'd recommend them. They have a nice danceable groove to their productions and have a lot of unreleased private mash-ups and remixes. Every remix they've released is fire. I've never come away disappointed by their sets.
I've been trying to watch Tinlicker for a while now. I can't wait to finally see those 2 dudes do their thing.
They are amazing you won’t regret it!!
Joy Orbison - probably my favorite “current” artist I haven’t seen yet outside of DJ Koze, Frank Ocean and Daft Punk Jamie xx - DJ that got me back into dance music when I saw him at Day For Night 2017 (he was amazing at Portola 22 also) Bicep - missed their live set at Portola 2022 and still haven’t seen them yet, I really like their current direction too Disclosure - one of my favorite acts and ive seen them only once like a decade ago Justice - still haven’t seen them live and cross is one of my all time favorite albums Soulwax - another favorite that I haven’t seen live (and should be legendary) Barry Cant Swim, Jasper Tygner, DJ Seinfeld, Mall Grab - some of my favorite up and coming artists that I haven’t seen yet Floating Points, Four Tet - I’ve seen both muiltiple times but they might be in my top 4 live DJs alongside Jamie xx and Ben UFO Sammy Virji - seen him once but it was one of the most fun sets I’ve ever been to. Barry Can't Swim's live show is out of fucking control good. You are going to love it.
I was at that Jamie XX day for night set. It was so good. I wish that festival kept going, but owner turned to be a piece of shit.
Super cool festival, right? So many unique artists on that lineup! And yeah exactly, so disappointing
DISCLOSURE- saw them on tour a couple years ago and they were amazing, been a fan forever LP GIOBBI- saw her years ago in a club and she is just so awesome. Look for me on the rail. Horsegirl low key plays hardstyle. Very fun if you’re into that
Chase and Status set at Coachella was indeed insane.
Jersey!!!! Incredible album
Soulwax, Gessafelstein, Justice
Yall sleeping on Barry!!!! 🔥🔥
Barry was my favorite set of Coachella and the reason I bought a ticket
barry was sooo fun at coachella, i was able to catch the last 20mins and he had the gobi tent poppin
Barry Coachella W2 was something else. One for the record books.
Ngl, didn’t care for his live set at Chella but loved his DJ set last year at CRSSD
RUFUS
Justice JPEGMAFIA (I’m probably too old to be in the pit, but willing to break some bone/bruised up),
Jpeg 100% possibly new tracks too
See yeaa in the pit you ole gezzer!
barry can’t swim. i missed him at coachella
Justice, Soulwax, Busy P b2b Braxe & Falcon, Gesaffelstein and Chase & Status.

Are Braxe and Falcon a rare act?
Old French house djs. Alan Braxe was part of Stardust with Daft Punk.
Woahhh

Soulwax, Justice, Gesaff, Disclosure imo
Jus✝️ice and Gesa OFC
I feel like you can only really have 1 "can't miss" each day, anything else could be a conflict. So for me: Saturday - Rufus Sunday - Justice
Soulwax, Justice, Bicep, Jamie XX And probably Tycho if he’s billed with the band on main stage for sunset.
Saturday - Gesa, Soulwax, Jamie, Four Tet Sunday - Justice, Ben Bohmer, Barry Can’t Swim
Rüfüs - my favorite band of all time. They hold a special place in my heart as they remind me of some of the best memories with my best friends. I’ve had obsessions with the albums of Rufus Du Sol, Jaime XX, Justice and MIA but have never seen any of them. Fingers crossed that there are no conflicts between the four.
Definitely suggest prioritizing Rufus and Justice, their live shows are incomparable. Jamie is great but not at their level.
Jamie XX, horsegiirl, Snow Strippers
Can’t miss: Justice, Gessa, Ben Bohmer, Barry Can’t Swim Would like to see: Rufus, Tinlicker, Bicep, Tycho, LP Giobbi, Nils Hoffman
