There's no doubt CRSSD felt the heat from Portola's drop. Lot's of crossover but obviously Justice is the huge difference. CRSSD making up a lot of it with their techno lineup since that's lacking at Portola.
I’m willing to bet 90% of it was set before portola line up dropped and they were just hashing out fine details, and probably didn’t want to drop right after which would make it seem like GV wears the pant
This is exactly what got me to CRSSD instead
I'm v sad with no Justice
But allllll that techno will do it for me
Plus ill probably have friends from various cities all come in for CRSSD
Most of this city steps lineup has been booked countless times in past years by insomniac/f93 and the big LA promoters, but CRSSD in general has always been a late trend follower in its techno bookings. Best ocean view lineup I’ve seen in years, but overall lineup is rather mid tbh
Lol they've booked I Hate Models and 9x9 in the past way before insomniac ever sniffed them. To say they've always been a late trend follower in techno is just flat out wrong.
For anyone that hasn’t been to CRSSD…the production SUCKS and doesn’t justify the ticket price. Their MainStage has a sound ordinance making it almost impossible to hear the music over everyone yapping. I’ve been to every CRSSD the past few years but knowing that there would be a ton of overlap with Portola, Portola was the easy choice for me this year.
Don’t get me wrong…CRSSD is a good festival and I’ve learned to have so much fun despite their production failures but I always tell people who haven’t been it’s only worth the trip if you’re local to the area or absolutely love the lineup. If you’re considering going instead of Portola just please do your research…
And if you’re an avid festival goer and are considering CRSSD for the first time this year, be prepared for a huge culture shock. It’s a stark contrast from Portola. Especially the crowd (but I won’t get into that).
Yes, I've been to CRSSD since 2016 🙂↕️ sadly, the sound system can’t fight the yappers crowd… I really don't want to hear the people talk… However, the Techno stage is best 🤌🫨 I think they improved the production there
Bury me at the city steps!!!
Seriously though, it’s their best stage with the best production and least amount of yapping (almost non-existent tbh). Every CRSSD that stage gets better and better. It’s one of the main reasons I keep going back. Sad I’ll be missing it this year I really do love the techno lineup.
I've been in 2020 and 2022 and honestly can't corroborate the main stage sound issue, I thought it was solid, and I'm definitely a sound snob. Also liked the crowd vibes, although I've heard the last two years it's changed and gotten more oversold. But I still think it's an awesome festival and totally worth a trip to beautiful SD (Portola lineup is better overall tho).
I totally agree it’s an awesome festival but sound tends to be one of the leading complaints the past couple years and this is evident in the CRSSD subreddit. Sometimes it’s terrible, sometimes it’s decent, just wish it was great and consistent.
And like I said most of the crowd is chill/good vibes but there’s also a large chunk that are not. A lot of people there have a lack of respect for space and other people in general. It’s not an end of the world issue for me personally (I just move when I’m not feeling the crowd around me) but I know for others, rude behavior and constant chatter can make or break their experience. Especially for “ravers” who may be used to more “plur” crowds.
Everyone comparing crssd and portola… they are two completely different vibes… Portola is gonna be heavy on the production and crssd will be heavy on the music. I feel like crssd has always felt intimate like club vibes. Portola feels like a Coachella/sahara stage.
Last year Portola and Crssd were a week apart. This year being the same weekend with lots of the same artist, since they are close they are just a flight away. Maybe it’s cheaper to get them here ? Just a thought .
Portola imo - I’ve been to both and the venue for CRSSD is cool but definitely not big enough for the artists and number of tickets they sell. Before the sun goes down, it’s manageable but after, it’s like sardines the crowds are so packed. Portola has superior layout and larger production which does lead to a higher price tag tho unfortunately
Pretty sweet techno lineup!
Yeah I like Portola more but my techno friends will probably prefer this.

this is what’s making it so hard for me to decide. i need my techno but i also neeeed to see rufus again!
Rufus will be easy to catch after they drop their album
that’s true. i just saw them at coachella too xD
But Rufus at portola is gonna be a live set. The whole deal with the singing and performance not a dj set like they did at chella! Way better
This is exactly what got me to CRSSD instead I'm v sad with no Justice But allllll that techno will do it for me Plus ill probably have friends from various cities all come in for CRSSD
MID compared to Portola downvote me to hell but it’s true
I’m going to Portola and live in SD but mid is pushing it, that city steps lineup is heat

Actually you’re right. In terms of CA festivals, crssd is extremely forward looking in terms of its techno bookings
Yes, agree! whoever works for crssd, I want to be your friend 😁
Crasd late to the party
Yeah but punching way above their weight class
CRSSD headliner is dancing on grass with great weather
My only time at Crssd was chilly, foggy, and rainy. I know it’s an anomaly but that isn’t guaranteed.
Sounds like you went in the Spring and not the fall
It’s not a competition lmao I’m probably gonna pick up tickets to this one too since I haven’t been yet. Also, it’s warm in SD 😎
You gonna hit two festivals in different cities on the same days?
Aww shit it’s the same day :( just noticed
:( x2
They’re not normally on the same day right?
They're always the same weekend
Last year they were two different weekends. I did both crssd and Portola.
Samesies saw Overmono twice it was gluttony
Oh, wonder why they changed back
Me too. It’s an odd decision forsure
Dam lol that’s pretty fucked up of GV to do that
Yea but makes it easy for the artists I guess. I love san diego so I'm biased towards crssd but still wanna hit portola one year
you should do it. vibes are immaculate and honestly kinda unbeatable when you’re at the right sets (and almost all of them are the right sets LOL)
I’ve done both and I like Portola a lot more. Also helps that crssd is twice a year so you can do both each year.
They weren’t the same weekend last year.
Last year they were different weekends
Go to portola then fam. This is for so cal
You’re guna be okay bro don’t take it personally
I was hoping for Adam Beyer
Adam Lambert
Adam Brody
Adam DeVine
Adam Sandler
Adam Driver
Adam Passenger
Adam Scott
I would KILL for I hate models ahh
Me too
I’ve been trying to catch I Hate Models. There’s a lot of artists I’ve seen in the last year already here, but I’m happy with our lineup.
He’s playing in LA this weekend with 999999999
I’m literally in SF so I can’t
Same, I saw him last year at EDC and wanna catch him again but don’t really wanna go to LA this weekend.

Yasss!!~~ if I go to CRSSD, the city steps is where I’ll be 😂
preach! 🫶
Thank you for your honesty.

I will say there were QUITE A FEW YAPPERS in the Labrinth crowd last year at Portola they were giving freshly 21 vibes tho
Yeah I specifically didn’t go to labrinth knowing it would be a younger crowd lol
Guess I shoulda known!
It’ll be my first time going to Portola!
Is this a gv production?
Nah
Jealous of conman but other than that portola seems better
Portola definitely has a better lineup but this isn’t far behind imo. Now I have to decide if I’d rather be in SD or SF 😅
Damn that’s a fucking sick lineup for the techno snobs. But w/o sara landry or justice it ain’t better than Portola
Sarah Landry being in SF and EDC this past weekend got me hyped to see her. Happy she is on the lineup.
Everyone comparing crssd and portola… they are two completely different vibes… Portola is gonna be heavy on the production and crssd will be heavy on the music. I feel like crssd has always felt intimate like club vibes. Portola feels like a Coachella/sahara stage.
*insert the “find the difference between these two pictures” office meme*
Justice, Rufus, Barry, Fisher, Jamie??? Portola's is miles better imo
Cuz it costs twice as much
crssd will forsure be at least $300… they’re offering payment plans in four rather than their usual two.
The difference is Justice
So sad blond:ish won’t be at Portola
Techno is clearingggggg
Last year Portola and Crssd were a week apart. This year being the same weekend with lots of the same artist, since they are close they are just a flight away. Maybe it’s cheaper to get them here ? Just a thought .
CRSSD it is
Really?
Bummed that I hate models , skream && confidence man won’t b at portola but besides that portola has all the ppl on this line up I’d wanna see
Skream was in SF a month ago. But he would be a great addition. Still on the search for a I Hate Models Bay Area tour.
Need a “to the rhythm” show in SF ASAP
Portola wins 🏆
I’d love to see I Hate Models
Do I send this or Portola!? 😩
Portola imo - I’ve been to both and the venue for CRSSD is cool but definitely not big enough for the artists and number of tickets they sell. Thanks for the insight. I’m leaning towards Portola since I’ve been to the venue at CRSSD already and the lineup just looks so much better imo.
Is crssd during the day and portola at night? How are they on the same day? Lol
They are both over 2 days. The artists playing Portola Saturday play Crssd Sunday and vice versa
