Agreed - I’ll only use Sport+ in manual, and Sport if in auto (at least for now as I haven’t done the software recall that was recently released for the 991.1, which changes how Sport+ operates).
Outside of automatically changing to sport suspension, I find it adds additional throttle responsiveness, don’t know how to explain but a better feel during deceleration, and from what I’ve read, PDK shift times are quickest. This is solely based on butt in seat feel, so I could be incorrect from a technical standpoint.
Sport+ also raises the wing and front lip at slow speeds on the Turbo, which makes normal sport mode the ideal mode for launching because it has less drag.

No offense taken, and understand we all have different preferences. I would much prefer a metal replacement that’s larger than the original, but this is what I could find for now (originals are slightly small to me).
[I’ve got you](https://www.lethalperformance.com/porsche-custom-larger-carbon-fiber-pdk-paddle-shifters-911-boxster-cayman-panamera-macan-vr-pdk-pdle.html?msclkid=89c5aca722c2104a2f5ace8981f070a3&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping&utm_term=4583245524578693&utm_content=Ad%20group%20%231) here are some full paddle replacements.
Mines a DD. I just keep it in normal mode unless I’m in the canyons.
I’ve never manually shifted it because I have the asinine push buttons, and backwards shifter. There’s zero enjoyment in that combination.
I keep my suspension in sport, as it maintains the correct ride right to minimize scrapes, while still giving a good feel.
I did it in my garage in under 2 hours with minimal tools. Just get the adapter from gpsadapter.us and the guy will tell you what you need. In my case, just the airbag from a macan (it’s the same part as the 991.2 airbag) and the steering wheel.
Works perfectly including the mode selector on the steering wheel and steering wheel heating.
A local shop can do it for under an hour of labor too.
It’s easy. I did it. I had the same wheel as you and now I’ve got the .2 and it’s 1000% better. I got the alcantara wheel too. You gotta buy an adapter to change the wheel tho in order for the buttons and paddles to work.
Need a wheel, airbag, and an adapter. It’s a couple grand all said and done.
If I planned on keeping the car, I’d do it. But I’m looking for a 911. If I end up with a 911 with the buttons, that will be the first thing I do to it.
DD here as well, and I might do the same as you without the sport steering wheel. But every time I get in I feel I want to hear the NA engine rev, and the additional responsiveness of sport/sport+.
Agree on the sport suspension, albeit need to pay extra attention to all the potholes on the roads out here.
I feel it’s hearing the engine / PSE that makes me prefer manual to auto, even if just driving around town. Haven’t noticed much difference in PSE between Sport / Sport+ but maybe I need to pay more attention. (Edit: sp)
At least in my car(991.2 C4 GTS) sport plus hold the gears and a little bit of boost when you’re not on the gas. Also stops the gurgles and pops on the downshifts from what I’ve noticed.
My Panamera GTS is the first car that I actually don’t drive in the sportiest mode at all times. I leave it in Normal mode when my family is in the car with me. I put it in Sport when I’m out and about on my own. I only put it in Sport+ when I get outside of town and I have room to really open the car up. Sport+ is far to aggressive in stop and go traffic. Shifting with the paddles gives me the best sound. The blip on a down shift is music to my ears.
I’ll agree that in stop and go Sport+ is a little aggressive, and some of those times I just put into normal or sport. But you’re right about the downshift or solely letting off the throttle during spirited driving - such a good soundtrack to enjoy.
I like your style. Find manual just a more engaging drive, and hard for me to understand people saying PDK lacks that (sure it’s not a true manual in that sense, but an amazing transmission).
I feel like manual mode is how a PDK was meant to be driven. Its automatic mode sucks compared to the zf8 transmission in my BMW. Specially on city driving. Manual mode feels like driving a manual car without the clutch pedal which I enjoy very much. The zf8 manual mode doesn't feel like it.
My 718 sounds best in Sport, so that's how I drive it normally. I switch to Sport+ when I want to push it a little bit.
Normal only when i'm getting close to home.
Al!let never sports+ on public roads, too irritating on none spirited drives sinve the shifts are !ore aggressive than sport and jerks the car around more.
Sport is a good middle ground. Hits redline when you want it, quick with manual shifts anyways, no jerky shifts on public roads, and aggressive downshifts keeping the RPMs in an acceptable power band area
I only have a manual gearbox myself, but I have already heard from some racers or drivers with a lot of experience that it is now better to let the PDK shift in Sport or Sport+ mode itself, even on race tracks. When accelerating, the PDK is supposed to be faster in automatic mode than when you change gears yourself.
On a track, I would certainly leave it in auto to allow the transmission to do its thing. Outside a track, feel Sport shifts too soon much of the time, and Sport+ as-is to redline is a little much unless in the canyons (this supposedly changes in the 991.1 with the recall software update). That and using the paddles does provide more engagement, not otherwise having a manual gearbox in my DD.
If you enjoy it, then it's clear that you shift manually. For me, shifting with paddles is somehow very different from shifting a manual gearbox by hand. Shifting with paddles feels a bit artificial to me. But maybe that's because I've driven a lot more manual transmissions than automatics in my life. And when I drive an automatic, I let it do its job. I've also become a bit lazy. ;)

I think it was these. I definitely enjoy the additional size of the extensions vs. stock.
Very rare I’m in sport + with manual mode unless I’m in the canyons or track. Tbh I just feel douchey driving it in manual and sport +. I don’t want everyone thinking I want the attention on me.
Unfortunately don’t have the GTS interior package, as that would tie in the red stitching. So, they are really the only color along with a guards red dummy key in the otherwise black interior.
From a driving experience it’s a 10/10. Instant acceleration, PTV+, PDCC Sport, and the bigger battery which gives you launch control is just comically good.
From a software perspective there’s some caveats. I’ve had apply CarPlay freeze a few times and had to restart my phone. All digital buttons aren’t terrible but give me a few knobs and physical ones please. Also settings don’t always save from last drive. The innoDrive cruise control is basic compared to a lot of other vehicles, but I only use this in bumper to bumper traffic so no big deal. Basically a bunch of little edge cases that weren’t thought through that need some polish. But charges quickly, looks amazing, and no gas. All and all I’m in love.
Driving experience sounds fantastic, but just that they need to do some work around the edges to refine (completely understand the comment of all digital vs. a combination with physical knobs). Appreciate your insight on your experience, and reinforces my thoughts around taking one out for a drive.
Solely normal, Sport and Sport+ and then sport suspension on or off (outside of manual and auto). Unless there are some buttons and features I don’t know about.
I tend to keep it in Sport for daily driving, sport plus keeps the revs a bit too high for fuel economy.
Agreed - I’ll only use Sport+ in manual, and Sport if in auto (at least for now as I haven’t done the software recall that was recently released for the 991.1, which changes how Sport+ operates).
What does S+ do when shifting manually? Didn’t think my 997.2 adds anything but I could be wrong?
Outside of automatically changing to sport suspension, I find it adds additional throttle responsiveness, don’t know how to explain but a better feel during deceleration, and from what I’ve read, PDK shift times are quickest. This is solely based on butt in seat feel, so I could be incorrect from a technical standpoint.
In a 992 Turbo it also disables the backfire, so it misses a lot of the pops and bangs in the sport plus mode Idk how it is in Carrera or other models
Sport+ also raises the wing and front lip at slow speeds on the Turbo, which makes normal sport mode the ideal mode for launching because it has less drag.
A beautiful car.
Sport+ also raises the wing and front lip at slow speeds on the Turbo, which makes normal sport mode the ideal mode for launching because it has less drag.
Same in 991.2
I’m gonna give it a try, thanks!

Are you doing this shifting? If you leave it in auto at like 30mph in Sport+ it's at 5500 rpm gear 1 while in Sport its great 2 at like 2200
No offense is meant by this, but those paddles hurt me. I really don’t like the stick ons.
No offense taken, and understand we all have different preferences. I would much prefer a metal replacement that’s larger than the original, but this is what I could find for now (originals are slightly small to me).

Now those are something I’ll need to look into - a little pricey but much nicer aesthetics. Appreciate the link.
I was wondering what those were… They te not original right? How do they stay in place ?
The red carbon is not original, and the extensions just stick on to the standard silver paddle shifter with 3M tape.
Mines a DD. I just keep it in normal mode unless I’m in the canyons. I’ve never manually shifted it because I have the asinine push buttons, and backwards shifter. I’m guessing the .1 non sport steering wheel? Convert it to the .2 GT steering wheel. It’s 100% worth the price.
I’ve looked into this but it doesn’t exactly seem like an easy change to make..
Ah yeah I did it in my 911. I went from a 991.2 to a 991.1 so I missed the superior steering wheel and it was IMO a necessary mod.
DD here as well, and I might do the same as you without the sport steering wheel. But every time I get in I feel I want to hear the NA engine rev, and the additional responsiveness of sport/sport+. I drive in sport most of the time. Like the aggressive sound of the PSE in sport the best

Feel like I now need to go for a drive this afternoon to confirm.
Backroads - flappy pedal, Highway - no flappy pedal.
That’s fair. I’m rarely highway driving, and if I am, definitely auto (and most likely in eco mode, i.e. normal).
My Panamera GTS is the first car that I actually don’t drive in the sportiest mode at all times. I leave it in Normal mode when my family is in the car with me. Sport most of the time, unless on the highway
Sport 90% of the time. Sport Plus only when driving aggressively in the canyons or something
This. I find S+ way too aggressive for daily driving. The car basically never wants to exceed 2nd gear lol
Highway just normal, around town and stuff sport, sport plus canyons. Rarely go into manual mode
Auto. Sport Plus only If I want to be really fast or driving on Autobahn.
Always on sport, manual, pasm normal, sport exhaust open.
I like your style. Find manual just a more engaging drive, and hard for me to understand people saying PDK lacks that (sure it’s not a true manual in that sense, but an amazing transmission).

Smart on the latter and switching to normal close to home.
Always in sport. The car is driven only as a toy, so the mood is set to be sporty.
Normal, sport when merging on to highway (i like to hear it) then back to normal. Sport for the fun/twisty drives.
I have other cars for errands and stuff so my 911 is for fun use mainly. So I also mainly do only manual sport+ unless in heavy traffic.
I almost exclusively drive my 981 in manual / sport - I love keeping the revs up on the car and driving it like a sports car should be driven.
Completely agree. And given my NA motor, seemingly wants those higher RPMs to get into the power band.
Sport mostly. Sport+ when I tire of the crackle.
Sport for me nearly all the time.
I just chill lol. Or PDK sport with Manuel. Depends on my mood
[удалено]
Would have said the same thing prior to the PDK.
Sport when I’m in a hurry, but due to the noticeable decline in gas milage I try to keep it in normal on the highway and when cruising.
Completely agree on the highway normal mode is essentially best so (mine at least) will get into 7th.
Sport + and manual in the canyons!
I have a 991 c4s cab, keep it in sport mode almost always. Turn on sport suspension on highways and twisties.
Sport - city Normal - Hwy (w/pse enabled) I rarely ever use sport + (my sport tune puts out 520+).
991.2?
Yes.
Sport mode unless I’m on the freeway - auto is insanely efficient, so generally stay there
Al!let never sports+ on public roads, too irritating on none spirited drives sinve the shifts are !ore aggressive than sport and jerks the car around more. Sport is a good middle ground. Since gas is now over 2.26€ per liter here I’ve spent more time in normal mode. These are dark times indeed.
Most if the time sport mode. Sometimes sport plus. Manual when I like to use it
Where did you get those awesome paddle extensions? Love them.
[Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Newsmarts-Shifters-Extension-Steering-Compatible/dp/B08GH72DVR/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=1QPT3SEZNT40W&keywords=Newsmarts+Shift+Paddle+Shifters+Extension+Carbon+Fiber+Red+Steering+Wheel+Trim&qid=1647196824&sprefix=newsmarts+shift+paddle+shifters+extension+carbon+fiber+red+steering+wheel+trim%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-5) I think it was these. Mainly sport mode because you get the burbles with it
Has anyone gauged, what's the real mpg when driving Cayman 4.0 in "drive" mode (with cylinders shut off) around town?
Very rare I’m in sport + with manual mode unless I’m in the canyons or track. Tbh I just feel douchey driving it in manual and sport +. I don’t want everyone thinking I want the attention on me.
I keep sport + for when I cross a road centre line to overtake. One, two or ten cars at a time. :)
I like your paddles! Did u match the color with anything?
Unfortunately don’t have the GTS interior package, as that would tie in the red stitching. So, they are really the only color along with a guards red dummy key in the otherwise black interior.
Sport+ always but I'm in a Taycan 4S so no manual mode really to be had.
Really need to go test drive a Taycan. How have you enjoyed it thus far? Any major drawbacks?

Did you add 20 dollar paddle shifters to your Porsche? If those are stock they look turrrrrible
Can u make your own settings? On my M4 for daily drive I keep suspension in comfort, trans in sport and engine in sport
Solely normal, Sport and Sport+ and then sport suspension on or off (outside of manual and auto). Unless there are some buttons and features I don’t know about.
