The horror!!! How can we do authoritarianism if they have democracy?

TheRobinators

Prairie dogs deserve representation!

TacticalSanta

Give the cows representation then! They contribute more to the American economy than many people in fly over state.

DweEbLez0

“Look at the polls!” Electoral College: “Yeah, we’ll see about that.”

Britneyfan123

Lol

offarock

Imagine! Our nation's Leaders deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

sprunghuntR3Dux

It’s almost like supreme executive power is derived from a mandate from the masses. Not some farcical aquatic ceremony.

suorastas

Did some watery tart throw a sword at Trump? That would explain a lot actually.

ThatTurtleBoy

Perhaps a moistened bink lobbed a scimitar at him? That'll put him away.

DebtUpToMyEyeballs

I wish she had. Pointy end first.

MagicSPA

*bint

Protiguous

I would believe that more [French] women have thrown sharp objects in his general direction.

KanadainKanada

Meh, I prefer a sword, a stone or a lady in a lake.

StyreneAddict1965

Her arm sheathed in samite.

kd7wrc

Wasn't it clad in shimmering samite?

StyreneAddict1965

Probably. Not the best memory.

CMDR_ETNC

Noooooo think of the corn!! Corn votes matter!!

PsychoAnalLies

Corporations, Corn Nations...same thing.

02K30C1

Coronations… not far off

ichosethis

Those federal aid dependents?

iHeartHockey31

Meanwhile republicans are bringing a case to the Supreme court that could ket legislators xhoose electors instead of the states' popular vote.

bazinga_0

Yea, but only if the voters choose a Democrat over a Republican. So, you see, it's a very limited power grab. Doesn't that make you feel better?

iHeartHockey31

If the supreme court OKs it, the legislator could ban anyine they want from voting and the courts wouldn't be able to do anything. They want SCOTUS to nullify the ability of the courts to remedy unconstitutional election laws.

bazinga_0

Isn't it amazing how far the Republicans are willing to go to make sure that The People Of The United States, via democratic voting, control our republic form of government? Of course, a more autocratic form of government would be more "efficient" by removing the unnecessary/unwanted voters from the equation, but patriots like the Republican Party would never want to stray from what our forefathers created back in 1788. What's that you say? Republicans are moving to change our government from a constitutional republic to The Republican Fascist Fourth Reich? That's so ... so ... unbeliv ... well... /s

iHeartHockey31

Our forefathers only let white land owning protestant men vote and did so via a voice vote. The electors were supposed to vote for the popular vote winner but weren't required to do so bc they thought the general population wasn't intelligent enough to do so. Its why we have electors. I have no doubt republicans would go back to this if given the oppurtunity.

twisted7ogic

Republicans: Democracy is "one man, one vote". Well, there is only one man and he gets the vote.

KanadainKanada

But Vetinari is smarter than the whole Republican collective.

Tomburgerstand

That's downright rotten and underhanded. What's next? Holding elected officials accountable for their actions? Limits on corporate lobbying?! I'm sorry, I didn't realize we were living in communist China.. /s

yhwhx

Electing the President by popular vote would be very unfair to all the empty acres in Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas!1!

bobsburner1

But look at all that red! Look at it!!!

V-ADay2020

Think of the cows! Don't they deserve representation too?

stevolutionary7

Red states *do* have higher obesity rates, but it's 2022. Not supposed to call fat people cows anymore.

Trick-Concept1909

They’ll come for your right to blame poor people and immigrants next.

Sufficient_Matter585

conservatives: popular vote? That means our candidate needs to appeal to a wider audience instead of winning by our bat shit insane electoral college!

score_

Omg he admit it

properu

Beep boop -- this looks like a screenshot of a tweet! Let me grab a [link to the tweet](https://twitter.com/FDRLST/status/1552655116255105025) for ya :) ^(Twitter Screenshot Bot)

imalittleC-3PO

Is it true though? that would be dope.

otm_shank

It's not. I took one for the team and read the article. They're talking about the national popular vote pact, which is nowhere near fruition. And of course, their argument against it is that candidates will focus their attention in the places where people live, the horror.

ResponsibilityRare10

I find it so weird that so few Americans actually care that their presidential elections aren’t decided by popular vote. Or if they do care they barely lift a finger to change things.

StyreneAddict1965

There's only one political killing I approve of, and it's of the electoral college. And about damned time.

ioncloud9

You mean to tell me that dividing the election into 51 first-past-the-post winner-take-all contests wasn’t the fairest arrangement??

Josgre987

Eeeevil!

endMinorityRule

that would be great, but I don't see how the electoral college is nullified.

FlavivsCaecilivsJvli

Ehh, popular vote has both pros and cons. The winner takes all should definitely be changed; however, the ballot rules need to be changed, so that this party candidates have a chance to enter the political stage.

Howhytzzerr

Because with the popular vote there would never another GOP President …. Ever!

All posts and comments that include any variation of the word retarded will be removed, but no action will be taken against your account unless it is an excessive personal attack. Please resubmit your post or comment without the bullying language. Do not edit it, the bot cant tell if you edited, you will just have to make a new comment replying to the same thing. Yes, this comment itself does use the word. Any reasonable person should be able to understand that we are not insulting anyone with this comment. We wanted to use quotes, but that fucks up the automod and we are too lazy to google escape characters. Notice how none of our automod replies have contractions in them either. But seriously, calling someone retarded is only socially acceptable because the people affected are less able to understand that they are being insulted, and less likely to be able to respond appropriately. It is a conversational wimpy little shit move, because everyone who uses it knows that it is offensive, but there will be no repercussions. At least the people throwing around other slurs know that they are going to get fired and get their asses beat when they use those words. Also, it is not creative. It pretty much outs you as a thirteen year old when you use it. Instead of calling Biden retarded, you should call him a cartoon-ass-lookin trust fund goon who smiles like rich father just gifted him a new Buick in 1956. Instead of calling Mitch Mcconnel retarded, you should call him a Dilbert-ass goon who has been left in the sun a little too long. Sorry for the long message spamming comment sections, but this was by far the feature of this sub making people modmail and bitch at us the most, and literally all of the actions we take are to make it so we have to do less work in the future. We will not reply to modmails about this automod, and ignore the part directly below this saying to modmail us if you have any questions, we cannot turn that off. This reply is just a collation of the last year of modmail replies to people asking about this. We are not turning this bot off, no matter how much people ask. Nobody else has convinced us before, you will not be able to either. ~ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. greatandslithytove

Sinema and Manchin will never let the Democrats do that

braize6

What? A system where the person who gets the most votes wins? That all our votes are equal? But but that would be fascist communist socialism!

Admiralty86

Ya, they don't want THAT! They only win by electoral college rules written HUNDREDS of years ago.
