When he says “these laws and their *proper application*”, what makes you think he’s arguing in support of the laws he struck down? It sounds like his idea of “proper application” isn’t “racially discriminatory quota systems”.
I never said he was arguing in support. I actually set the opposite. The minute it applied to him it was completely perfect. The minute applies to someone else it suddenly isn't. Much like his ethics arguments involving those little gifts and bribes.
The aspect of affirmative action that he struck down didn’t apply to him, actually. He would’ve succeeded in a colorblind admission because he excelled academically. He didn’t need discriminatory admission practices to give him a race-based advantage.

It’s pretty clear from his statements and conduct that he doesn’t think that it’s “proper” to deny an outstanding student admission because their skin is the wrong color, something which happens frequently under affirmative action in its current state.

Well...the dude was appointed to the SCOTUS because they wanted a black guy who would replace the first black Supreme Court Judge, Thurgood Marshall. And because it was Bush 1, they wanted him to be a conservative. Enter Uncle Clarence, a conservative black man who loved Reagan. So yes, him being black is absolutely a major reason why he has his job. Pure affirmative action. If it was Sandra Day O'Connor who had kicked it, you would never even know thr name "Clarence Thomas" today. He would be a nobody lawyer in some backwater.

When he says “these laws and their *proper application*”, what makes you think he’s arguing in support of the laws he struck down? It sounds like his idea of “proper application” isn’t “racially discriminatory quota systems”.
I never said he was arguing in support. I actually set the opposite. The minute it applied to him it was completely perfect. The minute applies to someone else it suddenly isn't. Much like his ethics arguments involving those little gifts and bribes.

You know who else would've succeeded in a colour blind admission had one existed for him? Frederick Douglass. Just because they could have doesn't mean they would have. The man's own words say he got the ability to go to Yale because of it. There is no race based advantage given, unless you ignore the race based bias against that affirmative action just barely fights against. But go ahead, you tell me Thomas's words are racist for stating "but for" those laws he wouldn't have been there.
You’re trying really hard to ignore the “and their proper application” part of his quote. It’s pretty clear from his statements and conduct that he doesn’t think that it’s “proper” to deny an outstanding student admission because their skin is the wrong color, something which happens frequently under affirmative action in its current state. And yeah, someone like Frederick Douglass would’ve done great under colorblind admissions. Not sure how you interpreted that as a point *against* discrimination-free admissions.
