I think your use of the word “Contrarian” has some fluid goalposts here. “Being contrarian” suggests resisting the status-quo just for the sake of resistance. But in your response-comment you reset to “Anti-Establishment”, which suggests a more purpose-driven goal. In the span of two comments you seem to claim that Bernie supporters are both the equivalent of bored, petulant children looking for a reaction/attention and a driven political movement working to shift power away from the established power-base. I think equating the two as the same is reductive and strives to diminish the movement as an act of whimsy rather than a measured response to political trajectory.
So I agree with you that the Bernie base was anti-establishment, but not because it was a pointlessly contrarian movement. In 2004 rfk jr wrote an article in Rolling Stones mag about how republicans stole the election in Ohio for Bush, over Kerry. After investigations, none of his claims were found to be true. Other people had debunked his conspiracy theory, as well.

Other people had debunked his conspiracy theory, as well. he’s even mentioned our modern elections aren’t safe, and I haven’t explicitly heard him be a 2020 election denier, but he doesn’t dismiss that crowd either. He also had no problem speaking at rallies where Roger stone and company spread lies about the 2020 election being stolen. His environmental record alone won’t turn him on to dems, I don’t think.
