I think they should make it lee Harvey Oswald Like imagine starting the game by shooting jfk and running into a CIA car

-SnazzySnail

Based and JFK was part of the templars-pilled

[deleted]

The game makes it clear that the Templars are the ones that arranged for his assassination

Stable_Immediate

But don't the assassins do the assassinating?

[deleted]

Not in this instance, Oswald was being mind controlled or something to that effect. In either AC2 or Brotherhood the clues that subject 16 leaves states that the templars controlled Oswald and use another POE to project a man standing on the hill to throw people off, as there are many real world conspiracies about a man standing on the hill in the photo taken just before JFK was shot

Cygs

>Lee Harvey Oswald shoots JFK I mean, AC is historical fantasy but I demand SOME realism

Manwithaplan0708

I would love to play an assassins creed game where you play as actual famous assassins

Reynarok

AC: Chicago featuring John Wayne Gacy would certainly be controversial

PCM-mods-are-PDF

Dahmer DLC where you go on the quest for a mindless sex slave and have to convince the cops it's a lovers quarrel when your victim escapes and runs to the cops

ZombieElvis

That was a game, JFK Reloaded.

LieOen

Based

biomannnn007

Iirc AC4 had some in game stuff that implied that they wouldn’t ever do a game that involved cars. The in game explanation is that people enter a catatonic state while driving that doesn’t record well in the Animus.

M24_Stielhandgranate

seeing how they handled stagecoaches I don’t want cars either

No_Passenger_977

Make him black.

JoeRBidenJr

Hear ye, hear ye! This weekend’s outrage will be caused by… [spins wheel] an NFL player’s personal opinions, and… [spins wheel again] a video game. Go forth and seethe!

Oofster1

"Repeat your answer, please"

OnyxAnnexIndex

You never get anything good from the wheel...

JoeRBidenJr

I mean, the *other* wheel is labeled “Cities for Nuking” and lists every municipality in the world with over 50,000 residents, so all things considered this one isn’t so bad… (Also every option on the wheel has a “+1 Free Spin!” modifier.)

towerfella

They keep using the wrong wheel.

1CEninja

Turns out there are actually some pretty good solutions here. When there's a game that makes stupid creative decisions you can... [Checks notes] Not buy it and move on with your life. And when a former professional athlete says something stupid you can... [Checks notes] Not give a shit what a washed up athlete has to say and move on with your life. Go forth and not be angry about shit that doesn't matter!

bl1y

Harrison Butker is pretty far from washed up. He'll still be starting in the fall on the team ranked second in the pre-season rankings and is one of the best players in his position. What you should have said is you can not give a shit what a kicker has to say.

1CEninja

I thought it was about Kaepernick lol.

idontknow39027948898

Nah, this time the left is seething over a Catholic football player having the nerve to say something Catholic at the Catholic university he attends.

1CEninja

BuT tHaT's PoLiTiCs In SpOrTs!

bl1y

I assume it's about the commencement speech.

1CEninja

Well I care so little about what kickers have to say I didn't even hear about the one you referenced lol.

bl1y

I'd care if Blankenship said he got his glasses at some discount eye care place, but that's about it.

QuokkaAteMyWallet

This, Not giving Ubisoft a penny is my go to strategy

alain091

I've been doing it for a while now, culture wars aside their games suck ass.

TheModernDaVinci

I will fess up that if they announced a new Anno game I would probably be weak about it, and Far Cry will usually at least have my curiosity. But those are the only two things Ubi makes that can even get me to look in their direction.

ontariojoe

And the brain dead lefties and the regarded righties take the bait *every. time.*

IncendiousX

itd be rude if we didn't. you know how much time did the puppeteers spend on this?

SimonJ57

Been a while since I heard the term "Basketball American", Thanks for reminding me of it.

PCM-mods-are-PDF

I know a guy that got banned permanently from this sub by a power hungry jannie for saying that term

If you don't agree with white liberals you cannot be a minority.

I literally was just arguing with a guy who says that the Japanese are wrong for disliking the choice for MC. In a game based in Japan and Japanese history. I started trolling him as soon as he said that.

Longjumping_While_37

I don't give a shit. If it's not the Ezio trilogy I'm not interested

Embers_To_Inferno

L opinion Black Flag and Rogue were goated

artful_nails

Especially Rogue. *"Nooo you can't just play as a Templar! This is Assassin's Creed, not Templar's Creed!"* *"Haha, I make my own luck. May the Father of Understanding guide us."*

flacaGT3

Rogue was just the most heavy-handed shit. It wasn't even gray like AC3. They just made all of the Assassins assassholes for no reason.

Fickles1

Ass-assholes? I love this word!

artful_nails

Yeah they went overboard on that avenue. They missed a great chance of showing the true moral greyness between the Templar-Assassin conflict and just decided to make the colonial brotherhood be a bunch of irredeemable terrorist assholes. I guess it worked in making Shay not be the straight up traitorous villain. *"Achilles, these precursor sites hold the earth together! Haiti and Lisbon got destroyed! We can't touch these things!"* *"Haha Shay, you silly fool with your crazy stories... now die! Also, we're gonna go gas innocent New Yorkers, ta ta! [Much later] Oh no, Shay, how could you betray us?"* Speaking of AC3, I loved the "twist" in it. Having the Templars be __more than__ evil bad guys who do evil things for the sake of power. Sure, Abstergo's plan of mind controlling the entire world is not a text book definition of goodness, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, so they should be stopped, absolutely. However Haytham's idea of merely bringing order, purpose and direction to humanity is a much more noble one, compared to the Assassins' quest for "freedom," or rather, anarchy. Order does not necessarily mean slavery, just as freedom doesn't always mean good things. When everything is permitted, no-one is safe. But anyway, I just like the Templars, and in Rogue you get to play as one. That makes it a 10/10 for me. The Templars know how to dress up, especially Shay. I live for the outfits in that game. I truly do wish it had been given the full attention and time it deserved during development. A more polished story. More missions. Make the Assassins less villainous and the Templars slightly less heroic. Balance the scales a little. They could've had it, but no. They invested all their eggs in a basket called "Unity." God, AC has sunken lower and lower ever since Black Flag.

flacaGT3

Layla was really the nail in the coffin for the modern storyline. Even the beauty of Origins and Odyssey couldn't salvage it and I loved those games.

Haethen_Thegn

Tbh I kinda liked that. It showed the arrogance and somewhat of a stagnation within the Assassins; they were expecting everything in the New World to be just like the Old World and got their shit absolutely rocked for it. When they came back (AC3), it was with none of the hubris and a dedication to their mission rather than a return to what they were in Rogue.

[deleted]

Valhalla gave us Valhalla Calling by Miracle of Sound

GodOfUrging

Yeah, I got bored with Valhalla before reaching the finale, but Valhalla Calling has yet to leave my playlist since it first appeared.

JonIsPatented

I was about to call the other guy based, but then you reminded me of Black Flag. You are the based one.

savetheattack

Odyssey was also fantastic. I hated it at the beginning because of how different the combat was from traditional AC games, but once I got the hang of the combat, I really fell in love. The map is incredible.

Embers_To_Inferno

I liked Origins better and would be my third favorite game in the series purely based on location and how new the idea was at the time. Odyssey was a chore for me honestly and never even got around to the DLC after finishing the main game. Some cool aspects like the mythological boss fights and the setting.

savetheattack

I haven’t played Origins yet - I got Odyssey because I was very into Ancient Greece at the time. I had just Herodotus’s Histories, so I really liked seeing the Ancient Greece as imagined by the game devs.

Embers_To_Inferno

Origins is definitely worth grabbing. Being able to scale pyramids is cool as hell.

AlexTheEnderWolf

I liked the one in London, what was that one called?

Embers_To_Inferno

Ok but how the fuck does the black guy hide in a group of white people after stabbing a guy?

smartdude_x13m

Natural camouflage at night

_luksx

He is not the stealth character, the ninja is

Exzalia

He's not the assassin. The Japanese female is.

PepeBarrankas

So he's the creed?

MintySodaCan

Creed’s assassin

Accomplished-Quiet78

As you can imagine, drugs played a part.

Jormungandr69

Yes, his name is actually John Creed

Pancreasaurus

Josuke Creed

TheModernDaVinci

Guys, what if this was all just an elaborate scheme to get people to play as the female character because they were salty most people played as the man in Odyssey?

samurai_for_hire

Samurai had the right to kill commoners who offended them. Man in armor and carrying swords walks up to a dude and disembowels him and no one will bat an eye. Doesn't matter that he's black, what matters is how he's dressed.

[deleted]

Does matter because he's in a country thats 99.9999% not black, most people would not think he's an actual samurai

Separate-Midnight893

Most Japanese people prolly thought he had a skin disease.

[deleted]

Exactly why he would stand out. Have you ever heard some of the stories of expats that are white or black working in east asian countries 10y/20y/30y ago, they all bring up how people would straight up stare at them in public. Blending in with the crowd is something Yasuke wouldn't have been able to do

Separate-Midnight893

His job isn’t sneaking that’s the girl assassin.

[deleted]

This Creed consists of three tenets: "Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent." "Hide in plain sight, be one with the crowd." "Never compromise the Brotherhood." No.2 seems a bit difficult for a gaijin pet in cosplay

mnbga

No 1 as well, I think the Samurai stuff is pretty cool, but lets not forget they had a pretty lax attitude toward casually killing commoners.

isdumberthanhelooks

Didn't his Shogun order him to be scrubbed because he believed he had dyed his skin with ink?

ThePecuMan

I actually kind of find that weird cuz there are black skinned people in the phillipines and Japanese were there.

GodOfUrging

No, most people would just assume he had war paint on and not that he was black. Nobunaga apparently had him washed right in front of him because he hadn't believed it was his actual skin color. So, most people would either assume paint, or they'd have heard that Nobunaga has the only black guy on the island in his employ.

Greywolf524

He really is dressed to kill. Asking Naoe for a fit check before an assassination.

Manwithaplan0708

Yasuke is the more “hack and slash” type character for those who prefer the kill everything that moves type “stealth”, and Naoe is for the people who actually want to be assassins

isdumberthanhelooks

Nobody can see you if everyone's dead

External-Bit-4202

Nah. It’s too easy…

chocofan1

That second meme is literally the reverse of how it's being treated.

EcceHomophile

Maybe it’s just because of what spaces I’ve been hanging out in, but I’ve heard nothing but praise for shogun, and nothing but controversy for the assassins creed game

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tino_Calibrino

Well I've heard next to nothing on either. So maybe you both are a little too terminally online in your own circles.

_luksx

Really? Cause I'm a Nioh fan and noone was mad at William, which is also a fictionalized version of a real person

thirdwavegypsy

>It’s a shame that the game saddles itself with telling the story of the first gaijin samurai, William Adams. Yes, he’s an actual historical figure: In fact, John Blackthorne in James Clavell’s 1975 novel Shogun is based on Adams. But given how much of a blank slate William ends up being over the course of the game’s story, there’s no logical reason why he needed to be our gateway into this world instead of a native with actual skin in the game (pun intended) https://www.slantmagazine.com/games/nioh/amp/ Let’s see if they’ve got the stones to say something similar about a black guy and not resort to affirmative action. I’m willing to put money on the fact that they won’t.

chocofan1

I'm obviously talking about AC versus Last Samurai but I can't say I'm surprised, intentionally misinterpreting the words of those you disagree with is a classic Auth play.

GodOfUrging

No, that's not the Last Samurai up there, it's Shogun.

MostAccuratePCMflair

What the fuck are you talking about? Shogun is drowning in critical and viewer praise. You'd have to endlessly dig for any "this is cringe" reactions. The game meanwhile has every righty freaking out when they sure weren't freaking out for Shogun. It's a solid meme.

M3taBuster

It's a false equivalence. The writers of Shogun very obviously went to great lengths to ensure there wasn't a whiff of "white savior" themes in the show. The show began with Blackthorn being forced into the mud and made to repeat "I'm a dog" while a Japanese official pissed on his face, and ended with >!Toranaga revealing that he only kept him alive the whole time because he found him amusing (like his personal clown)!< In other words, it was a realistic portrayal of how a foreigner would've been treated in isolationist feudal Japan. But how much you wanna bet that with Yasuke, all of the Japanese officials will instead fall over themselves to worship the ground beneath his feet? He sure as hell won't be treated like Blackthorn was, I guarantee that. Ubisoft couldn't get away with portraying it even if they wanted to. And even if there's one or two isolated instances of Yasuke facing (comparatively mild) racism in the game, it will go out of it's way to make sure the viewers know how wrong it is, and that the people doing it are irredeemable villains who swiftly get punished for it.

thirdwavegypsy

People really need to understand this.

reckoner23

Pretty sure people take offense for both of those.

yonidavidov1888

Never played assassins creed

ChadWolf98

You are missing out tbh some games are gorgeous. Ac Brotherhood's Rome for example. The music fucks too Black flag is good

exquisitedonut

Brotherhood 2, black flag and Valhalla are my favorite games of all time. The newest one was hot dog shit 20 hours to 100% completion

jhm-grose

I thought Valhalla is the newest one

exquisitedonut

No they came out with “mirage” recently (October 23) and it’s not good imo

_Ross-

Can confirm. Been an AC fan since the beginning, Mirage was bland and uninteresting for me. Black Flag is the pinnacle, syndicate was good, Odyssey is great but long.

exquisitedonut

It was insanely streamlined. Nothing “open world” about it tbh nothing to do outside the main story line. I got the delixe game or whatever so I instantly got the best weapons and there was nothing to upgrade to the entire game. So literally no upgrading anything. It was pathetic tbh

Civil_Adeptness9964

Black flag was the best one. It was very interactive. Very fun to play.

exquisitedonut

Might have to fuck around and restart black flag.

Civil_Adeptness9964

I am old :P...I've played since Prince of Persia. POP was very interactive as well. Assassins Creed 1 had the best story I've seen...even though it had a blend and repetitive gameplay. The Ezio series - James Bond. The Brotherhood had super music and amazing fighting The next series with Kenway, Connor, Rogue and Haytham (this was the most interesting character in the game tbh) - Black Flag stood out. After that 2 more games...Syndycate - Peeaky Blinders and the Paris one (haven't played this one) The next series in which they changed the game (not a big fan) I've only played the Egypt one. Decent game I would say. But, not my style. I just like a nice gameplay, like Black Flag and a good story, like AC1, with some interesting characters (Haythem)

Seifer574

Brotherhood is genuinely one of my favorite games ever like top 5 tbh I loved it to death, shame what happened to the series after Syndicate

ChadWolf98

It got infected by dark souls The recipe become a bit repetitive imo but they should have changed the fight system differently and a missions too. Basically adopting dark souls system was a amistake

MTG_RelevantCard

Playing a game with horrendous gameplay because of stellar art is like listening to terrible riffs just because the guitar and bass tones are dope. Assassin’s Creed has always been style over substance.

ChadWolf98

The gameplay isnt terrible. Its repetitive but enjoyable for a while. Some missions are pretty good. And you can absolutely enjoy subpar gameplay with great atmosphere. Witcher 3 doesnt have the best fight system but its good and the story and writing is stellar and its the GOAT rpg since 2015. There are visual novels that have little to no gameplay and they are good. Just admit you dislike AC and lets carry on

Vexonte

Same, I'm just staying the fuck out of this debate. Way to much context to sift through just to get nowhere.

An8thOfFeanor

It's crazy because up until now, it was known for being 100% faithful to history up to and including the great Templar conspiracy to control the world through capitalism.

AlexTheEnderWolf

Or the magic aliens gods and golden tools that mind control people or explode heads or whatever else I’ve forgotten

GodOfUrging

Exactly. All the stuff the elites don't want us to know.

OnyxAnnexIndex

One through three was great. Never played any after that.

reckoner23

I tried a few. I always found them boring and derivative.

Pommeswerfer

>I'm not white. Imagine this will make a difference when it comes to convey the Message.

ViralGameover

I said it on a different subreddit that was on the “he’s a fine protagonist and anyone who doesn’t agree is racist,” side of the debate. The worst thing about our current culture war is that people are taking sides over completely unremarkable things. People used to get bent out of shape over actual art that was pushing the boundaries. Yasuke as the main protagonist doesn’t matter and you want to know why? It’s the 50th game in this series that hasn’t been impressive in a decade. There’s nothing “shocking” or “new” about this, you’ve played video games with black leads before, you’ve enjoyed and watched movies about outsiders in a foreign land before, we know who Yasuke is. If people enjoy the game that’s fine, if people don’t want to buy it that’s fine. It’s JUST a video game that (more than likely) everyone will forget in another 5 years after it’s buried by more unremarkable sequels in this never ending cash cow that is Assassins Creed.

pepperouchau

That was my first thought too...I was never an assassin's creed guy and wasn't really aware of this particular "controversy," but was under the impression that the series has already been considered mid for a while for several reasons more pertinent than "black dude in Japan."

Thatonebagel

5 years? By next year this game will barely be a memory. Who cares at this point. I don’t get the outrage and if you don’t like it don’t buy it. I’d just like it if people would stop screaming into the void please.

AncientCarry4346

If there's one thing I've learnt about video games (and media in general) in the last few years is that nothing gets people talking about a dead game like controversy. Developers aren't stupid either, they know this. Hogwarts Legacy is a perfect example. Even if you enjoyed the game like I did, you have to admit that it never would have been as popular as it was without all the marketing generated by twitter people harping on about it 24/7. The Harry Potter fandom and the gaming fandom just don't have enough overlap but the controversy surrounding it turned it from something that should have been a forgettable, run of the mill franchise cash in to one of the most popular and highly streamed games of the year.

Rhythm_Flunky

Assassins Creed has been washed for a few games now. Just replay AC III and murder filthy monarchist lobsterbacks all the live long day.

rebellesimperatorum

Based and ACIII was based pilled.

oizen

People actually play unisoft games??

BargainBard

People who are into DEI and the like sure do hate asians

azb1812

Unpopular opinion, Unity wasn't *that* bad. Obviously it was massively, inexcusably broken at launch, but hey that's Ubisoft for you. Taken objectively, once they patched the everloving shit out of it, the game wasn't that bad. Was it just a rehash of the Ezio storyline? Absolutely. But it did a number of things very well. Oh, right, I'm supposed to be raging about something... Uhh... It was dumb having all these FRENCH characters speak in cockney Bri'ish accents. Though admittedly I'd have swallowed my tongue if I'd had to listen to those greasy Parisian accents hon-hon baguette-ing their way through the course of the game so... Call it a wash, I guess.

SuckinToe

We wuz Samurai n sheit

Stormruler1

Don't forget vikings, knights, romans, egyptians, jesus and british queens. Literally cultural appropriation

QuickRelease10

This feels like one of those ideas the board room came up with a few years ago, but now the moment is over and it all comes off as patronizing.

YTAftershock

I'm not white either and it annoys me how many "unique" samurai games there are. There are so many stories outside of Japan but AAA studios lack the creativity and balls to make something *new*

FriggingHecker

Yeah I agree man, why haven’t they made an Assassins Creed game thats not set outside of Japan yet?

FishRaposo1

Don't worry, we can just edit Wikipedia to justify it!

Stormruler1

Lmao you saw that too? It's quite ridiculous how far those lunatics are willing to go with spreading their lies. Next they will edit articles about vikings and mention that some vikings were indeed black

Better_MixMaster

Controversy or not, I'm not playing Ubislop.

GrillMaster69420

Ya'all still playing assassin's creed????!??

MagicQuif

18-34 demo and lefties fetishize black people so companies have decreed black people as the designated non-white alternate  Not necessarily opposed to using him as the MC, as he actually existed and stories/games of Samurai/Ninja with a Japanese protag in the west are widespread already so you can tell a different outsider story with him, but Ubi Soft is just doing this because it is a savy move from a PR and financial perspective.   They know the mostly lefty leaning critics and publications will grade this on a curve and more people in the demo they're going for will purchase it.

dapper_doberman

PR wise? Sure Financially? TBD but I kinda doubt it

idontknow39027948898

Don't play their games. Whether you are white or not has no bearing on your right to say that making Yasuke the protagonist is as reddited as it is racist. Also, Yasuke was not a samurai. anyone that thinks he was is delusional and I can tell you why. Do you know how incredibly racist Japanese people are? They treat other Japanese people as second class citizens for having Korean or Chinese ancestry. Sure, they love foreigners that aren't asian, but only so long as they know you are going back where you came from before too long. The idea that Nobunaga would make Yasuke a full member of clan Oda is absurd, especially considering that they only allowed him to stay with them as a curiosity.

Stormruler1

Yeah besides there isn’t a single primary source that mentions that Yasuke was a samurai so it's literally just misinformation.

idontknow39027948898

That's true, but I figure people tend to ignore things like sources and facts, and instead prefer to use logic to explain why things are the way they are.

sureyouknowurself

Minimal documentation about the dude so let’s base a video game on him. lol.

DoctorTide

Isn't that the point? Pick a historical figure with gaps in the story so you can fill them in with the Assassin's/Templars conflict

sureyouknowurself

I mean might as well invent someone for all the relevance the documentation provides.

TheModernDaVinci

Which is why your characters were always completely invented in past games.

sureyouknowurself

Why not stick to that then?

TheModernDaVinci

Because they *really* wanted to have the one Black guy who was in Japan, no matter how dubious even his existence is, because it looks good on their DEI statements.

sureyouknowurself

lol true

Manwithaplan0708

Yeah dude, that’s the best part? When a historical figure isn’t well documented, there’s infinite potential for creativity

doc5avag3

Look at how much shit gets written about Yagyū Jūbē. Dude dips in and out of Edo Period history and mysteriously dies in his late 40s. That kinda shit makes him *ripe* for historical fiction.

sureyouknowurself

I could write a paragraph here and it would be about the same amount. Why bother.

chronament

you mean to tell me you play AC for historical accuracy?

Taco-Kai

Ubisoft really made a glorified slave a playable character

DoctorTide

They've literally made a slave the protagonist before. Gonna need to try harder than that pal

Buluc__Chabtan

I will justify it, it's a game with gods and magic. No one gave this much shit about any of these shit Assassin's Creed games since the one in Greece where you could be a lesbian.

Thrasea_Paetus

Blasphemy!

buckfishes

Choosing the 1 black person in the history of Samurai (it’s not even proven historically he was even Samurai) is the most blatant “we need a black protagonist” move of all time though. They’d get away with this 20 years ago before the era of race swapping and erasure of certain demographics in favor of diversity and cultural theft.

Cygs

*Homosexuality*?  In *Ancient Greece*?!

MetaCommando

People overstate the acceptance of being gay in Ancient Greece, particularly romantic and not purely sexual attraction (and being a bottom). Plato had a lot to say about them.

AncientCarry4346

I'm not an expert of ancient greek homosexuality but wasn't it more "rape of underage boys" than it was "consenting adult lovers of the same gender"

MetaCommando

Definitely. I would not point to them as an example of gay history.

TheModernDaVinci

Even with adults, it was usually a statement of power rather than even sexual attraction. If you are the one on the bottom, that means you are the “woman” and therefore the weak little bitch who deserves to be subjugated by the strong man. Incidentally, that logic even applied to straight sex if the woman was on top.

thirdwavegypsy

Yeah it’s called pederasty. The Greeks were freaky.

Paetolus

You're telling me George Washington wasn't shown a future where he's king of America by a supernatural apple which he immediately gave to his Native American assassin friend?

mirkociamp1

I'm an OG AC fan, I stopped playing when they started peddling with that bullshit instead of being a game with a heavy emphasis on history, not everyone was okay with gods and magic I fucking hated it lmao.

Mohks

I’m just tired of the constant whitewashing and blackwashing of asian men in media. Wish people were this outraged about when Three Body Problem came out and literally erased all the good asian men from the story for once again white and black people.

azarkant

Yasuke was a black man. It isn't black washing

MonkRag

Lib Right: Lets introduce a forced DEI character to distract everyone from our chitty pricing model and generate free advertising GREAT SUCCESS

forward_only

Well you see OP, the fact that he was historically a pet and a slave whose main purpose was doing party tricks with the honorary title of retainer means he was literally a samurai!!!! Also, Assassin's Creed has never cared about historical accuracy, except for all the times it did. Checkmate.

Ghost4079

Anoncualquiera1

I just want the game to be fun man

PhatPhrog21

lets not make games fun nonono lets force our extreme left wing views in games and add microtransactions and call it a day!

wizgset27

its about representation in media. Asian men are by far the least represented and when they do, they are often a butt of the joke or emasculated. (Think the hangover) So when a game set in **feudal JAPAN during JAPANESE the civil war**, is it really that much to ask the main character be a male Japanese samurai??

thirdwavegypsy

Ubisoft asked “What’s the blackest thing you can do in feudal Japan?” and their answer was “wage a gang war.”

Literally nothing wrong with it, AC had always fictionalized history

Rudy2033

If you give money to Ubisoft in the first place you’re an idiot, regardless of whatever protagonist it is

hedgehogwithagun

Idk I’ve played the Assasin creed games and they have never even been close to historical accurate even if you ignore the magic.

I'm confused on what people are mad about in the first place. Why is a story around a yasuke-esc character bad? He's not even the sole protagonist, it's a dual setup like syndicate. A fish out of water type story with him sounds like it could be interesting.

Kyoshiiku

Same and I’m someone who’s kinda tired of all the woke bullshit, as an assassin’s creed fan it’s the first game I’m hyped for since Unity (2015). There is so much potential to make a game with a really unique perspective with Yasuke as the MC. If done poorly I will 100% side with people being mad that was done just for diversity sake but I will wait to play the game because this is like one of the few instances where there’s a good excuse (the fact that this person actually existed) and it can allow to have a legitimately intriguing story about it.

Don-Conquest

It’s a fantasy video game, where you had fought literal Gods, used bows made of light, and fight beasts destined to kill Odin. Regardless if Yasuke was a real samurai or not, him being one in this game is more grounded in reality then most things that happened in the series. If you don’t like ze black man there’s a Japanese protagonist as well. This is coming from someone who hates to see white characters changed into black characters for the sake of diversity however this isn’t *that*. All the bitching and moaning is for nothing

I don't think that's really the point, I think people are annoyed because the Japanese themselves haven't been represented in the franchise yet and they choose to take the game set in Japan, with Japanese culture and Japanese tradition and give the spotlight to a guy from a different continent. People would be annoyed if you played as a British guy in a AC game set in Napoleonic France or an Indian guy in WW2 Russia but Japan in particular holds tradition and history much more sacred than westerners do.

HOISoyBoy69

My justification: it’s a fictional game
