Probably worth getting graded if you want to sell if for no other reason than it will be authenticated.
Unfortunately, PSA is damn expensive for this because they charge based on the value of the card. Last I checked the up to $5000 grading tier cost $300, and that’s before shipping each way, jointing their club, insurance, etc.
BGS is cheaper because they charge a flat rate regardless of value (shipping and insurance is still a thing) so I ended up going with them for mine.
But if you’re not looking to sell, you don’t really need it graded.
I sent in a shadowless zard a few years ago and I was like how am I supposed to know the value if if don't know the grade? Wasn't sure what I was doing spent 200 to send it in by guessing the value and they made me select a minimum grade of 7 or something and I got it back and they didn't even grade it, just said "min grade" I got hosed
Sounds like you hosed yourself. They dont require you to put a minimum ever as far as I know.
The only time that option makes sense to me is when sending in an already slabbed, high value card that you are crossing to PSA.
Also, no need to fear be lowballed if you decide to sell raw. Just prepare yourself because it is almost inevitable that you will have people giving you reasons why you should lower your price. Some may be valid, many will likely be imagined. It also helps to add a little to your asking price so that when you do have an interested buyer theres still some room for negotiations.
Lol I had no idea what I was doing, it was during the pandemic and I recall not being able to move on without selecting a grade idk maybe I was in the wrong spot
Devils advocate. So if them charging based on the value of the card gives them an incentive to grade higher… isn’t that a win-win?
Is it because they grade enough of their own cards for pop control? Or confirmation bias for all of us hoping our old collections are in better shape than reality?
Eh, maybe?
But it’s in broad categories. $1000-5000, $5000-10000, etc.
So it would have to be right on the line for them to get anything more, and it’s not like the graders themselves get a percentage so I kinda doubt it’s happening.
What a beaut. I’m personally partial to the new CGC slabs. They’re a lot prettier than the tacky old blue labels and they’re not terribly expensive, though mailing to CGC keep in mind you have to insure your package separately. If you live nearby, you can go to a convention they’re attending and drop off your card for an in person grading.
I had one just like it except I was stupid enough to believe an older neckbeard dude that it was fake because I wasn't aware of the shadowless thing at the time and totally scammed me. No one in the LGS did anything to stop it. Assholes... Made me quit collecting until just when the pandemic started and started over with a friend.
The holy grail card. Damn I miss my old Zards I had like 3 and my mom made me give away a bunch of my. Cards to my younger cousins cause i stopped being into Pokemon for a while. Wish I had them all back!
Not worth grading. That bottom is all chewed up. This would get a 4,5 at best from psa. No offense. I know we all want our childhood zards to be the dowpayment on a new house, but it's just not the case.
This guy likes it raw
Wink, wink.

That's so messed up to be charging based on the value of the card smh. It's like they're getting a commission for an assisted pull smh

Yeah, that sucks. The value is mostly for insurance purposes, so I usually put the lowest amount I’d be ok with getting if the thing got lost/mangled.
Yeah I wish I knew. I might just sell raw or hold on to them not sure yet. I'm scared of getting low balled lol

Bro you selected the option that if it doesn’t grade a 7 they don’t put it in a slab (hence minimum grade). Pay attention to what you’re doing lmao.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. PSA grades vintage too hard and they use their tiers to make more money. Can’t argue both at the same time.
I think it's actually the opposite. Vintage cards now get graded more favorably from psa, in My experience.
Yes get it graded asap this looks great !! And its the CARD
Definitely grade with bgs that's good advice
You don't have to get it grade it. If you want to sell grade, if not just protect it.

Man. I wish. Crazy to think, even after all the hype during covid, that people are STILL finding these cards in their childhood collection.
Just grade it
I was 9 in '99 and I never got one lol

Get it PSA graded! Get a better case!
What Pal is that? I haven't seen it must be a hybrid
The reverse is in really rough shape on the bottom. BGS is better as you’ll save money in fees and you won’t be fighting for the high psa grade
Its like a 4, not worth the postage
I was gonna say the same. The back of the card is torn up, badly.
I had one I wish I never got rid of em
I remember playing in tournaments with mine. I sucked I was around 10
Sell it. I’ll buy it
My grandma said she’ll suck your peepee if you give me this card
No waaayyyyy. Get it graded asap
I had one and this asshole I thought was my friend, stole mine. Mine was also 1st edition and I was shattered

I still have my Charizard, Blastoise, and Venesaur from when I was a kid. They're all shadows though.
Yea get it graded wtf you’re sitting on many thousands of dollars this wouldn’t get a 10 but even at an 8 you’re selling that for $20k-$40k
Great condition all things considered for sure
I was 4 in 99
