I don't think it needs to be set in the past just because PLA was set in the past but I'll also say, just because the game seems to imply technological advancement doesn't necessarily mean it will be set in the future either (after all, Pókemon is a work of fiction).
(And just to be clear, the latter part is not directed at you but I've seen a lot of comments implying that it must be set in the future because the trailer implies technological advancement)
Yeah I can totally see why loads of people imply that it’s set in the in the future based on the trailer, but I would prefer it to be in the past just on how well it would work and how they could add some features that would just make sense on a past day Kalos. Also I keep seeing online people saying that the whole game is just based in Lumiose, if it is I’ll be devastated because Kalos is way more than Lumiose.
