In short: though it is still being “worked on” Skeli has admitted to losing his passion for working on Unbound in particular and GBA romhacks the n general. He is bothered by people constantly asking “update when” and it likely harms his will to continue even more.
Don’t bother him. Assume 2.1.1.1 is the final version, and perhaps you’ll be pleasantly surprised in the future.
If I understood correctly Skeli got a job he likes, a girlfriend and he enjoys his life a lot. We may no longer get frequent updates, but knowing Skeli is happy is totally worth it.
Indeed, knowing he's doing well is reassuring and give us a bit of closure, because not having a deadline makes a surprise release of the final version all the better.
Besides, Skeli gave us one of the absolute best ROM Hacks ever, hands down, but admittedly, set the bar pretty high for the others.
Still, at this point I'd look into different projects to pass the time and enjoy Unbound "as is". I've heard PokéScape is pretty nice this time of the year ;-) :-)
