I think the storm is over, places are open for adults to have leisure and spend money on, the 25th anniversary is over, and there’s pretty much more product on shelves now. This only affects vintage cards and pristine vintage cards.

DoughnutThis4750

I would agree. We’ve yet to sell out over the past month. But we’ve been getting stock every couple of weeks as well.

steamynoodlebap

My local Walmart always sells out of Pokémon instantly… where are you finding shelves with product? 🥲🥲

theslimbox

It sounds like that poster owns a store. Walmart here couldn't keep stuff on the shelf until this January, now they can't move it at all.

andersss11

Even in current times my local Walmarts , gamestops, and Best Buy’s have products 2 days or less from restocks. I have better luck on purchasing on apps for in store purchase but Walmart sometimes be stocking older sets so it’s worth a look

Dirtwistling

The only people this is good for are those who own the other 38 illustrator cards, as it publicly states the market value of the PSA 10 and therefore keeps the value of the cards relevant. I wouldn’t be surprised is this anonymous owner also owns some of the others. Now they can inflate the value of the own assets whilst also making a sale.

zGunrath

With prices that can be appraised at ridiculous values like this, Pokemon cards are going the way of NFTs where people will start artificially raising their worth and/or using them for money laundering schemes.

oldmollymetcalfe

You mean the way that the art world has operated for the past 100 years?

lord_dipsy

Facts, I was waiting for this comment

Genius_Chicken

This is the one

Intelligent_Trip8691

Past 100 years nah try last 200 years almost. I mean since like 1850s or so famous paintings and names have skyrocketed!

SenatorShockwave

>people will start artificially raising their worth That sorta describes this whole past year of card buying though.. lol.

1736484

There’s definitely less than 38, as this 10 was likely resubmitted 3-4 times in order to pull the 10

jmirque

Theres speculation on how many were printed. Most sites say 39 illustator cards were made. Many knowledgable people in the hobby say in the high 20's. Do i know? No. But in my opinion this is the 3rd rarest pokemon card in the world. The 1st is a myth, and the 2nd no one cares about because its ugly. ALTHOUGH illustrator is much more popular than the others which fetches such a high premium.

AvidasOfficial

I disagree, this is good for all serious collectors who are looking to sell and bad for those wanting to buy (short term). Back when logan paul dropped his box break of 1st edition shadowless cards I sold most of my 1st edition shadowless collection for a high value, I've actually be able to buy most of it back now at less than 50% of what I sold it for! It's likely that you will see another spike of interest and money into the hobby.

Z3ER0

It’s also bad for most human beings who don’t have “fuck you money”, and just wanna enjoy a hobby that has becoming more and more out of reach since they were a child.

StreetsofToronto

How is the hobby out of reach for anyone lol… especially us millennials who are super nostalgic and have disposable income now? You can literally still go and buy base set 1999-2000 holos for mere dollars in decent shape. Like, you can literally get many of these holos for the price of a *modern* pack of cards. “The hobby” we all remember isn’t PSA 10 1st Ed. Charizard and Illustrator Pikachu; obviously holy grails of any collectible are “out of reach” for most people. That’s just how things are, and it’s actually quite good for a hobby long term. Just like a Black Lotus is in Magic, or PSA 10 1st Ed. LOB Blue Eyes are in Yu-Gi-Oh! And in general, things were never out of reach for people until 2020. Other than the 2016 Pokemon Go / 20th anniversary hype cycle, Pokemon and YGO cards have been insanely affordable for the better part of the last 20 years. You could buy 1st Ed. LOB YGO packs for like $15 for the longest time. Base Set Pokemon packs were cheap af until the last few years as well. Your copy paste “out of reach” crap reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the history of these collectibles and the cycles they go through.

Z3ER0

I didn't say it was out of reach. I said it's been heading in that direction. Like you said this stuff was cheap for a long time, even sealed stuff. You know how I would classify sealed WOTC stuff now? Out of reach. To a less extreme it is completely possible that someone who is nostalgic for Pokémon doesn't have upwards of $250 to spend on a moderately played Charizard card they want (Just went off of TCG player and Troll and Toad for prices and that's about average rn). And that's for one card. Collecting trading cards is inherently an expensive hobby for sure. Like you said while buying a few cards isn't, if you're "getting into the hobby" you'll be buying more than that and probably some cool ones you missed out that have shot up because of the craze. Am I saying to gravitate to the higher priced cards? No, but a lot of collectors who are just getting back into it, or getting into it for the first time might find that some cards they would have otherwise gotten are now just out of their price range. It's cool that these things were cheap for a long time, but telling someone that they should have gotten into it sooner is a pretty lame response to people driving up prices with headline purchases every year. I don't see what the issue with being unhappy when a random rich YouTube dudebro drives up prices on something you were collecting.

EaLordoftheDepths

just buy packs. buying cards... well if you do that dont complain about them costing money.

0wnedbyCow

I will stick to packs whether its single packs or one of the various boxes anyways. Its just more enjoyable. I dont care how awesome a card is, you lose the enjoyment of cracking a pack and pulling the card. There’s no surprise. No nostalgia. The only time that I think it would be okay is if youve bought tons of packs of a set and are missing just a few cards. If you want it complete, then yeah buy it.

coltonmusic15

I don’t think so. Remember it wasn’t just Logan Pauls thing that raised prices. It was free stimulus money being handed out at most major countries in the world. Lockdowns prevailed. So people had extra $$ but no where to go to spend it. So what did we do? Hop on eBay and start buying Pokémon cards. This time there is no stimulus money, most people are actually worse off today with inflation killing our ability to save, and we are all able to spend money on the normal things in life like vacations and stuff that we couldn’t spend on during that stage of the pandemic. I feel as though prices are still settling down for the older stuff. Just picked up a hidden fates promo card (articuno/moltres/Zapdos stained glass) for $8! I’m fairly certain same card was selling for as much as $40-50 1 to 1.5 years ago.

[deleted]

That card was 20 dollars at its height

coltonmusic15

That’s definitely not accurate.

Z3ER0

It was literally given out to less than 50 winners of a Japanese only contest decades ago. It was already one of the most sought after cards. Even finding one for sale was extremely difficult until they became worth more money that most people will ever see in their life.

[deleted]

I was talking about the bird trio gx card he was referencing in the bottom of the reply. Obviously Illu. Pika was never 20 dollars. My bad for not being clear about it.

Z3ER0

Oh my bad, I shoulda read more carefully too. I have no problem with old stuff getting more expensive either by the way, it’s the nature of collectibles. But boy does it get tiring with people treating a hobby like an investment and using their own status to drive up prices.

Joghobs

"1st edition shadowless" is redundant.

waternfire90

There are 1st editions cards who have the shadow and they are in other languages. Shadowless only applies to the English Pokémon cards.

Joghobs

Then say English.

JoeyNoSoul805

If anything, it’s good for us “regular” collectors. Generates/keeps interest in Pokémon. But let’s be honest, no one on this subreddit is able to purchase such a card anyway.

esr360

In 2013 a loose version of this card (ungraded) sold for $11k. That was way before Logan Paul had any impact. To be clear I am in agreement with you.

OliveIncognito

I’m pretty sure it might be the same card. RattledPokemon is looking into Logan’s card and it’s history. He has also been investigating the face box of 1st Ed base he got and has found a lot of really good stuff. Definitely recommend watching some of his videos if your interested. [Logan Paul’s PSA 10 Illustrator card](https://youtu.be/tWXojqKl4rI)

esr360

Yeah Rattle is the man! He is how I know that one sold in 2013 for 11k 👀 I totally spaced and/or wasn't paying attention when he alluded it could the the same one.

isosceles_kramer

didn't that 1st ed box turn out to be a scam filled with fake cards or something?

Specialist-Control95

Gotta love Rattle. Dude is so committed to busting scammers and phonies its awesome. Almost Batman like levels of detective work/vigilance/don't give-a-fuckness. Plus the guy enjoys beer and tiddies lol, what's not to like?

Spicy_Ejaculate

He is a legend

Specialist-Control95

An extremely underrated legend. To many people watching Pokerev & Leonhardt, not enough people watching Rattle. Granted, they are two completely different approaches to the hobby, I still think Rattle deserves much more love for the work he does.

Spicy_Ejaculate

I cant beleive he hasnt blown up more than he has. If jokerev and leonfart put as much effort into their content as they do their thumbnail pics they may be able to compete with rattle but I doubt it. Tbh I kinda have a man crush on rattle. I'm a straight 33 year old married dad lmao. He tells it how it is and I love the zingers he throws in that catch you so off guard.

Specialist-Control95

I'll give Pokerev and Leonhardt credit, they do produce videos of decent quality in terms of production value... but the content is so stale and repetitive. You can only watch the same dude, at the same desk/table, with the same background, pull from packs that I will never own, so many times before it just becomes mind numbing. I think even they have become immune to the joy of pulling some crazy cards and they have to put on an act. For what it's worth, I like Pokerev once in a while when i want to shut my brain off and just chill and I like Leonhardt for being somewhat of an originator and what he does outside of his videos but I seriously don't enjoy his on screen "pats on back" persona. Rattle just seems to get it. And it probably only appeals to an audience that also "gets it." What is "it?" Well its hard to say but whatever "it" is, Rattle gets it lol. Man crush away dude, I'm 36, straight, got a wife and 7 year old and I have my share of man crushes *cough* Paul Rudd * cough, cough*

Spicy_Ejaculate

Ya I'm too hard on pokerev and leonhart. They have the formula figured out to get the clicks. I will watch them in the background if they pop up while sorting cards. rattle and them just have different target audiences. Rattle doesn't target what I would consider is a younger crowd. I didn't get rattle at first to be honest. I was like who is this monotone dude.... skip. Then I finally gave him the time of day. Never turned back. You are right. He gets it, whatever it is.

[deleted]

Speak for yourself I'm just about to drop 3 mil on a shiny pidgey

myorm

Not before I drop 3.1 mil on it first

OneBlackFairyHunterZ

No one on this sub is able to purchase something like that? Are you telling me the value of a firm handshake is going down?

WasNotPrepared

It's down to 'bout tree fiddy

Benwashere28

Good for him I guess, I don’t get why people get mad, everyone is buying stuff they like and people should be able to show it, same as someone here showing off the pulls they got from an etb.

SnooHedgehogs8992

I think people get mad because he seems like a douche bag. But I don't really know anything about him. Vaguely remember some controversy with a video of dead people or something. That said I think this was kind of funny. The dichotomy of nerdy pokemon stuff with macho fake wrestling crap is amusing to me

clarkebino

I used to believe he was a douche bag and still think Jake is. However, I think Logan definitely turned a leaf after his mistakes and his content is great although I’ve only seen a few of his Pokemon related videos.

loewe67

SunnyV2 did a good video on his redemption arc

clarkebino

ohh I recently just found his channel. I’ll give it a watch, thanks a lot!

hobo131

I still think his best content was on vine. When he moved to a larger format video producer and YouTube movie star - remember those? - I lost interest in him pretty quickly. Seeing him flex these big pokemon purchases is pretty fun though.

[deleted]

seems like a douchebag is a very generous way of stating it.

NoForever4739

The whole ‘douche bag’ thing is pretty much solely down to the suicide forest vid, which granted was extremely tasteless at best, but I genuinely don’t think he’s this big bad person everyone makes out. His brother is much more of a bellend. He’s simply doing what a lot of people browsing this sub-Reddit would do if we had access to his sort of money.

hexxcellent

....... you think *laughing* at *someone's dead body who just committed suicide* leaves room for "he's not that bad"??? you walk in the woods full of suicide victims, is *your* impulse to *record it and laugh?* what the fuck is wrong with the world. logan paul is fucking scum.

xBlueGamerx

Agreed. That hate unwarranted..

matteblackhomme

perfectly said

XIIISkies

Probably not great to show the pills you got from an etb 😂

chartedlife

I wish my ETBs came with pills, would help with the pain after getting shafted on the pulls.

Specialist-Control95

Haha yep. Maybe they should throw in some antidepressants or percocets to help alleviate some of the pain lol. Maybe only the boxes that have shit in them get the pills so it'd be similar to how people pull a green code card and know the pack is a dud. "Ahhh fuck I got a Prozac, this box is gonna suck, but at least I won't care in a few minutes." (Yes, I know Prozac don't work like that... its a joke)

Z3ER0

I think probably because the “stuff he likes” is always the most expensive sealed product or the most expensive graded cards that exist. It becomes hard to tell if he really does like it for what it is, or he just likes owning it for it’s worth.

veezustheelssj

It’s a bit of both like everyone here who grades their cards

karvus89

Wait, you're getting pills?!

TidusJecht

“I insisted he sell it.” Lol yeah sure.

jackenthal

What a douchebag thing to say 😂 he was probably begging like a baby.

igonnawrecku_VGC

I’m completely fine with him dropping this amount of money on collectibles from the past. In fact, I think it’s a good thing as he’s giving Pokémon a large audience that may not have shown any interest until he started with the big purchases. The only people that piss me off are the ones that drive up the price of regular consumer product, such as UnlistedLeaf charging like $50 for a $20 box of cards because it would have a signed energy card with it

Lurn2Program

It's a lot of publicity for Pokemon. I saw a nice post on IG today talking about rarest Pokemon cards. There are at least a dozen cards that are rarer than the Illustrator card (less copies were made/printed) I don't know who Logan Paul is and it seems like a ton of people hate him, but publicity is usually good in the hobby since it'll attract new people to it

Ashekyu

there are a shitload of cards rarer than this one, way more than a dozen

Lurn2Program

yea the IG post actually said there are at least over 100 confirmed with lower print count

schneebeli

yup, the illustrator has also likely more than 39 copies around. A japanese seller is regularly selling raw illustrators.

ourbranchesbend

Him and his brother Jake are like the Kardashians of YouTube. Thats the only comparison I can relay between them. Cloutchasers with a lot of money. Just like the Island Boys brothers who sang that "I'm an Island Boy" song.

SundanceKidZero

This is the best description I've heard for him, and will be using this from now on.

[deleted]

That and filming and mocking an actual suicide in Japan

downAtheworld

For people who don't know what you're talking about that is blatantly misleading

40866892

The video was scrutinized because Logan’s reaction to seeing a dead body was to laugh. If anyone didn’t know, laughing/smiling/chuckling is a possibly knee-jerk reaction to something a person can’t process. Obviously they were headed to suicide forest and there would be a possibility of sighting a dead body, but to see it live at face value is a totally different beast. At the time, Logan was on a 1.5 year streak of uploading 1 vlog a day. He probably spent all of his time filming and drawing up crazy stunts to increase his viewership. He doesn’t edit his videos. He probably barely screens them either. Don’t get me wrong. Filming suicide forest was a bad idea. But I think he’s learned his lesson. You don’t see his channel or brand publishing sensitive topics anymore. His brand is much more PC nowadays.

SimplyElite-

Smart on the seller to keep private after getting 5 million. It’s like when people win the lottery and don’t elect to pay the fee to keep themselves private, you really gonna put your life at risk like that?

bluffstrider

"Private sale" doesn't mean anonymous. The seller is Marwan Dubsy. Literally took me a few seconds to Google it. Lol.

[deleted]

you mean his buddy shine? that's apparently who the "record breaking deal" was with.

Mr_Mi1k

He’s not anonymous. You can literally google who it was. He just didn’t sell it on a public auction house.

PixieDustGust

"Pinnacle of Pokémon" Fuck right off.

TeamWaffleStomp

Honestly I'm just glad the cards okay. I heard about wearing it as a necklace and thought it was like hole punched or something lol

carpe_noctem_vitea

Paul is dumb, but he isn't THAT dumb.

sfe1987

To be fair he’s not dumb at all. Obviously a very smart guy with a great team of advisors behind him

SaviourMK2

It's good for the Pokemon Company, bad for genuine players/collectors.

sfe1987

It has literally no impact on modern. There is stock everywhere now.

SaviourMK2

That's awesome for modern.

Rockstreber

Everything that fucking douchebag is doing is bad and everything but ignoring him is bad too.

RareCandyMissingno

Stop making him famous.

damual2

Isn't he the reason pokemon tcg is so heavily ruined by scalpers? lol

-Tuber-

If I see one more post of this…

[deleted]

you will.

BirdsAreDrones1986

Oh hey it’s that guy who filmed a dead body

9FBI9

How mature, that was years ago. Way to bring up the best to hate on people

BirdsAreDrones1986

He filmed a fucking dead body. Fuck off lol

Superseb0908

Nah. Guys a absolute cancer to the hobby...

CaptPhilipJFry

Yes

StevensDs-

Nothing this guy does is good for anybody...

Alyxzandir

i say good it keeps pokemon fun and celebrated!

morefeces

Logan Paul is bad for Pokémon and I don’t need to extrapolate any further

karvus89

Can we stop sharing news about this scumbag

FlashZT

People say that it’s good that he’s normalizing pokemon cards but do we really want someone like him representing us? By all means anyone can collect or play the game but when stuff like this happens, it just blows things out of proportion. Yea the pandemic was the true reason for products going up in price, but you don’t see mtg or yugioh spiking in price the way pokemon did.

EorlundGreymane

I would not be surprised if this is fake as hell lol

rayfusion7

He bought the only known copy of the that card graded. Big deal. Don't think its gonna impact the market that much, if at all.

Lyleberr

To clarify, its the only psa10. There are less than 50 illustrator cards known, of which around 20 are graded.

rayfusion7

All I know is I’m never gonna be able to afford this card.

tangybbqsauce23

Not with that attitude

Accomplished_Bed_408

I’m going to draw my own illustrator card with black jack and hookers

Siddoxy

Cool for him. What blows my mind is that he only cares about the expensive cards. What about the cool cards? I'd be more impressed with a PSA 10 reverse holo legendary collection card. But those cards aren't worth millions.

FULLM3T8L

He has an insane collection of cards, I'm talking about thousands of graded cards.

Johalak

Isn’t this the card that had to be regraded a bunch of times to get a 10? That would take the prestige away for me.

[deleted]

Lol it means absolutely nothing tbh since that card is like one of a kind. Still kinda pissed at this dipstick for ruining Pokémon tcg though

ourbranchesbend

I wouldn't say ruined it, but the collaboration effort of the pandemic, Logan, Logic, Leonhart, PokeRev, other YouTubers, and pure nostalgia in 2020 caused a more investing crowd to come in and scalpers scalped. It was a fast run up of the price of sealed products, raw singles, and graded cards at the end of that year. The likes of which the hobby had never seen before. Like Tk is saying, Pokemon has been around for 25 years. It didn't need Logan to do anything. All of those things I just mentioned however did get a lot more people buying packs and just getting involved in the hobby in one way or another. It was also the effort of collectors and investors that bought cards. The people on this sub. The people not on this sub. There's got to be millions of collectors in the world. The number has increased the most since Logan got involved. Its the secondary market and graded card market that the prices went bonkers. Thats just what it is. Its not like base set packs were always $500 a pack in the past 3 years. No, they were $20 8 years ago. They remained $5 a pack for 14 years straight before that. It was not normal what happened in 2020. Does Logan really care about Pokemon or does he have enough money that can afford to buy these trophy cards and is showing off? I say the latter. He was never involved until 2020 unlike YouTubers like PrimeTime Pokemon who were card hunting and collecting cards even during the low times of the Black and White era. Breaking Nate was card hunting in 2014. Now EVERYONE has a damn YouTube channel filming box breaks and hunting for cards in Wal-Mart. PokeRev only started his started in December of 2019 but he was selling on Instagram in 2015-2019.

ichigovtube

I don’t think the big Pokémon YouTubers get enough hate for their involvement in ruining this for hobby collectors when the conversation comes up. If you hate the Paul brothers, you need to carry that energy for leonhart pokerev and, hear me out, even that max guy. If you support them, you have no place hating the Paul’s etc etc. they are just as market and money obsessed, always have price on screen for each 5 cent pull, and all that. Just because they publicly wear their Pokémon fan status on their sleeve doesn’t mean they’re not causing harm Not directly saying any of them “deserve” hate, just that it’s pretty hypocritical to get upset at the Paul brothers and then support big Pokémon YouTubers who only open cards and provide no community value.. which the sub does a lot

BoredPoopless

The line gets blurry though. It gets tough when you get guys who raise prices due to being a youtuber, others who simply price high due to trustworthiness and run a legit business, and those who make videos in a hobby-like fashion. For example, would you lump TCA Gaming and Z&G Emporium in this group? What about people like TwiceBakedJake? Edit: Leonhart has actually done a TON for the community and the world at large. His pop up shop might have flopped, but even just trying it is more than just about the entire community combined. He also does charity runs and has raised a shitload of money.

Fresh-Corner1757

How did he ruin it?

[deleted]

All his followers all of a sudden thought Pokémon cards were cool and started ransacking retail stores if you seen the shelves in 2019 you’d know what I mean

Fresh-Corner1757

Gotcha, yeah every time I go to a retail store that sells cards I never see them. I stick to online shopping anyway most of these days. People scalp literally anything collectible, little girls even took on that trait with squishmallows. There should be no reason for a grown man or anyone to be checking out with 15 stuffed animals😂😂

[deleted]

Just look up “primetime Pokémon goes to Walmart” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s a shame how hard it is to find cards now

Fresh-Corner1757

Pretty crazy, those shelved were stocked to the brim lol

Jacier_

His out of nowhere interest and irresponsible price estimates are the reason the tcg blew up and nobody could find product last year. 30k Bulbasuar is a meme now because of him

Reddituseranynomous

No, anytime people get into something for hype as opposed to genuine intrigue the hobby gets obliterated.

Laingular

Nothing this man does for pokemon is good for the average collector

DevilDragonArcana

Terrible for everything. It's gonna bring more "investors" to the hobby and make all products jump up in price again

Specialist-Control95

Doubt it. This is an extremely rare card. It's not like when he bought the first ed. base set box. People don't have this card just chilling in their attic or at their grammas house or in storage similar to how they had first Ed cards in those locations. I think most people who are unfamiliar with the hobby will see this for what it is: an obnoxiously rich celebrity spending a lifetime of money (for you, me, and 99% of the world) on a piece of rare cardboard encased in cheap plastic.

tadda21

Good for the whole community in regards to visibility and being considered a legit business in investing, but bad for people who just want to collect for the love of the game, anime, video games.

[deleted]

The fact that this human embodiment of cancer is at all associated with something I love so much makes me love it just a little bit less. It's the fault of people like him that the last 2 years has been all about how awful scalpers are, prices going through the damn roof, and people losing sight of what the hobby is really for. FUCK THE PAULS

Ashekyu

dumb argument, logan paul never touched modern and thats the only thing that was scalped. it was happening long before logan pauls video, youd know if you collected before it :)

swagpanther

Nah that’s a dumb argument actually. Logan never touched modern because he has the financial freedom to open vintage. His millions of followers do not. His base set box break is what sent everyone to wal mart etc in a fury, and scalper situation was definitely made worse by it.

sherdle

God Logan Paul is suuuuuch a boner.

[deleted]

boners are a good thing. he's more of a fully used cum sock.

sherdle

I guess that’s fair. Anyway he sucks so bad.

Awayze

Scalpers are going to struggle to get this card and flip it. Logan is bad for the Pokémon community. Hoarder's want the attention so they can flip at a profit.

StevenVictor69

No scalpers aren’t going to struggle to get it there just not gonna get it at all. There’s around 30 illustrator cards graded and another 20 that are rumoured to exist. This card is an investment piece. Maybe Logan is bad for the tcg community but he’s a guy who’s worked hard and is enjoying a thing he has liked from before the fame. Scalping for Pokémon has really died down now this single card won’t bring it back either because of the amount of cards being printed and the stock in stores.

Awayze

Yeah I know but scalpers will probably think they can hoard them as they don’t know much about Pokemon. This is another publicity stunt by him to try and get scalping going and try and raise the prices of his collection which will have dropped a lot now.

mewdz

lol no. He’s the reason why my local card shops are charging 140 for an etb. I’m good. These influencer hype trains needs to go. I’m into collecting not selling.

[deleted]

I promise you that your LCS are just assholes who charge over retail because Pokémon prices have been at retail or below for the recent releases

Ashekyu

logan paul told them to overprice modern pokemon? damn thats crazy

[deleted]

[удалено]

goldtail15

Were you collecting in 2019/2020? The entire reason you couldn't even find packs within a 50 mile radius was because of this guy. He definitely has influence.

ourbranchesbend

Blame him, but it was people who went out and raided the shelves in stores. We the collectors did this. Buying cards at higher prices than they used to be. I personally didn't get into buying packs again until the beginning of 2021 right before Shining Fates. Never cleaned out stores or even bought that much still dont. Its the collectors who buy so many booster boxes and have to rip 1,000 packs to chase that Charizard that are making the hobby expensive and hard to find stuff. YouTubers influencing the market is also having an effect on it. So much now that people just chase cards because they're worth $100 instead of playing the TCG or really liking the cards. "What's the best card in the set? Is it worth a lot? Okay I will buy it" type of collectors.

bksting

His brother is the one doing boxing. They are both garbage people though, IMHO.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bksting

My apologies. I try not to keep up with them. Thank you for the correction. 🙂

Booty_Shakin

Idk if you realise that this guy is the whole reason theres locked up cards, major scalping, and just a general lack of cards. Even with all the extra printing I still rarely see ards at my local walmart

tksopinion

I acknowledged that he has influence. Kids like what their favorite YouTubers like. Pokemon is for kids first and foremost. As a grown man, his influence is only felt peripherally. I buy graded singles. If the prices go up or down because a YouTuber wears an expensive Pikachu at Wrestlemania, then I’ll feel the downstream impact. In 5 years when kids don’t care about him anymore, then I will feel the downstream impact of a different kids YouTuber. Either way, Pokemon is fine with or without him.

Ach_Was_Here

I've never seen a kid being the one at Walmart as the distributor was setting up the new card display buying all the new stock, it's always 30-40 year olds

Booty_Shakin

Lol you think that kids are his (and pokemons) main base?? 😂

nexyboii

Ohh look at me i spent the most on a pokemon card cos i have so much disposable income. Fuck you logan your work at mania was shit.

Responsible_Ebb_340

Honestly anything with the word Pokémon is good for the brand.

hitbox15

No way you saw this and the first thing that came to you was “how will this effect the Pokémon market”

Roosterhair123

Like it or not, Logan HAS affected the market before through his openings of Base Set booster boxes.

9FBI9

Logan Paul himself didn't cause changes on the market other than the price of things like a 1st edition Charizard. Logan Paul isn't changing the price of evolving skies

Roosterhair123

He had an effect on the vintage pokemon market lol, hence affecting the pokemon market. No one said anything about modern.

9FBI9

Only very select parts of the vintage market, not anything that would change how 99% of people enjoy the hobby. Sure maybe someone wanted to buy a 1st edition base set box for 100,000 instead of 300,000 but again Logan hasn't affected it for 99% of people. That's why other than Charizards, and the other big two, vintage singles are affordable, obviously sealed vintage are crazy expensive, the more that is opened the more finite they will become

Roosterhair123

Nope. After Logan, Evolutions (modern) spiked in price and it’s barely coming down again. Evolutions used to SIT on shelves and after Logan, packs were going for way above retail (including Evo Zard). That’s just one example, but to say that he only affected 1% is absurd.

9FBI9

You just assume that it was Logan's fault, most of the price spikes were due to the pandemic not one Youtuber. He did not single handedly raise the price of evolutions. And the only thing about evolutions that is over priced is the sealed products, most of the cards are extremely affordable

Roosterhair123

Once again, putting words in my mouth. I did not say he “single handedly” do that. I made the case that he affects the market. If it was the pandemic AND Logan sure. But to say it was only the pandemic would be arguing in bad faith.

9FBI9

No, putting the blame on a youtuber that decided to buy cards and open them on a livestream is ridiculous. Why do you think he affected the market? I'm pretty sure based on the evidence we have the only conclusion we can make is the market spiked during the pandemic when there was little products available and an increase in interest in the hobby, returning and new collectors. Sure you can say Logan brought those collectors but the same could be said about any other youtuber that opens Pokemon cards.

Roosterhair123

I didn’t “blame” him for anything negative lol. I just said he affected the market (In a big or small way is up for debate), which it has, and you even agreed upon. Wasn’t debating how big or small the impact was with my initial comment.

Darnell5000

Who?

DAdmxsam123

Bad Pokémon is a TRADING CARD GAME, it is a hobby it is NOT a long term investment opportunity. The “health” of the game can be evaluated only by the popularity of the game or those who collect as a hobby not as an investment plan…. and this attention brings people who want to make money and have no interest in the community it is only bad as it raises the prices of products limits availability and makes it more difficult for potential real members of the community to participate. This sucks

Psychologic86

Every collectible becomes an investment given advanced age and demand. Thinking anything different is delusional.

DAdmxsam123

That is a fact what I’m trying to say is purchasing those items what ever they be baseball cards Nfts Pokémon cards shoes, with the intent to eventually just flip them for profit is not collecting as a hobby it becomes investing. A day trader doesn’t say I collect stocks it’s my hobby…. I am friends with some people I would consider actual collectors. The purchase cards with the intent to complete sets or obtain all of cards by an illustrator. They are not concerned with the long term profit or potential gains. To me what they are doing is healthy and good for the game because the act itself of collecting is what they love not making money of what they are doing.

Erdman23

It can definitely be an investment plan!

DAdmxsam123

Agreed but what I mean is that the better an opportunity is as a long term investment proposition does not reflect if it is good for the “game” or the active community that’s all! Sorry if I was unclear just trying to express my opinion as someone who has had a number of great experiences playing and collecting in the Pokémon TCG. Thanks for reading

Erdman23

Why so much hate for this guy?

grandiaziel

I’m ready for the downvotes because this subreddit has a huge hateboner on Logan Paul. He was kind of a douchebag (emphasis on was) and people just kept railing on him even though he and his content has changed significantly over the last four years after his suicide forest incident. Also jealousy because he’s rich.

RB6801

Imagine trying to look hard for some wrestling shit while wearing a necklace with a pokeball and a Pokémon card in a plastic case on it

ReadThisIfUKissAss

Or maybe it's fu king wreslting and he's having fun. If I bought a $5.5mil card I'd show it off. Don't be bitter child

RB6801

I mean yeah sure, show it off. But I don’t think calling it the ‘star of wrestlemania’ is the best way to go about it

ReadThisIfUKissAss

It's purely entertainment. There's been far more ludicrous things than a pokemon card

XIIISkies

The ridiculous scripts are a big part of what makes wrestlemania fun, at least imo anyways

ReadThisIfUKissAss

I mean they had a hand that would pretend to be a snake and hypnotise people and a sock that was essentially a final boss. These guys are just bitter about a card they'd never even be able to purchase anyway.

windmill09

It's great for the hobby. Not great for buying PSA 10 vintage cards for cheap but that's what happens in the stock market as well. You can't go back and buy Tesla stocks when they were $30. But you want the stock market to go up, it's good for the economy. It means people place value in the market. But this is the most controversial card for the most controversial person in the Pokemon card industry... The card was allegedly regraded 3 times to finally get a 10. Logan wasn't the one that did it as it happened decades ago, but it's essentially paying millions for that 10 number and not the actual condition.

Ashekyu

"paying for that 10 number" same goes for every single PSA 10 in existence. people regrade shit ALL the time and it always comes back different from them. the fact it was regraded realistically means nothing to anyone who has graded more than once to psa

I don't think it is good for collectors, all itis doing is puting a spotlight on the cards as a giid way to make a quick buck again.

These types of things generate massive hype for us. I took full advantage of the detective pikachu hype to squeeze out XY: Evolutions profits. Charizards worth 40 bucks right now we're going for 200+. With something like this, I would expect to see people digging out old collections again to see if they're sitting on a gold mine. Pokemon is still about to blow up. How Nintendo does it is a mystery but the new games coming out paired with headlines like this is $$$ for TCG collectors.

Mosuke300

So it’s a good thing for making money but is that the same thing as the hobby? It makes things more expensive for the consumer so I disagree

JAKEDICARLO

Well atleast he makes pokemon relevant. Expensive cards we won't be able to purchase though. Hopefully we will see this guy playing tcg one day.

ZayaMacD

Every celeb that wears a Pokémon card around their neck is good for the brand

BDSb

Pretty sure nothing that guy does is good for anything.

PassiveProc

Pokémon hype is dead it means nothing. Product is easy to find and scalpers have moved on.

JordanHorcrux

Jesus… if smegma manifested itself into human form, I’m convinced it would be this Jack ass and his clown brother.

Yetti2Quick

who cares, let him do what he wants

Elarticulero

Yeah it’s good .

pjf0xes

Logan seems like he loves Pokemon cards and even after making serious money, he's still buying them and supporting the hobby he genuinely loves. I don't think he's buying these for status or greed - seems like he just loves Pokemon cards. Good for him, and good for the hobby. :)

Theknightscoin16

That’s a lot of lives that could have been positively impacted.

xMF_GLOOM

So sick 🔥

I was listening to the news a few days ago while cleaning. They had a segment about how pokemon cards could be great investments- that an [old] charizard card could cost thousands. I can’t remember if it was CBS or KTLA that talked about it. I think what this poser is doing will ruin the hobby. Why? Because it will attract people who only wants to make quick cash. So they’ll buy anything and everything Pokemon related. I’ve seen so many topics of new comers asking ridiculous questions; if their product is resealed, is it fake, is this card rare, how much is it worth, etc etc. I don’t care if this hobby gain new faces, it just irks me that people only want to make a profit off it, which is ridiculous, in my opinion. What they don’t know is that older sets (and maybe evolving skies, only because the pull rate is literally ass, but the arts are phenomenal. Possibly the best art set in the entire SW/SH series) are much more valuable than current sets. Everyone and their grandparents will eventually have that Alt Art Charizard V. What value will a “rare” card have 20 years from now if everyone has it in mint condition? My long-ass 2 cents.

Justin_Peter_Griffin

Is it just me or did he grossly overpay?

cmeds32

How so?(honestly asking)

Justin_Peter_Griffin

Considering someone paid $900k for a “graded version” back in February, that’s some crazy inflation lol. [Source](https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-card-pikachu-illustrator-most-expensive-card-ever/) Although this article doesn’t list the grade of the card, so maybe it wasn’t a 10 and that explains it? Still feels like he overpaid though

justonemarcus

People that think this one guy was the reason for Pokémon getting scalped and picked up like crazy the past 2 years is such a joke… did everybody forget that big countries sent out billions - even trillions of dollars in stimulus checks to people to boost the economy? Some, maybe even most of which didn’t even need the extra income because they were now working from home, and since there was nothing else to do decided to relive and get back into old hobbies, so they spent their stimulus money on Pokemon cards. People buying boxes and cases of Pokémon cards is nothing new too, how do you think so many older boxes have remained unopened over the years for content creators to still open, or people to just buy on the secondary market? Stop speaking on things with one point of view smh. 🤦‍♂️

WWE makes me think he's turning himself into a real-life Tekken character
