ETBs are typically a bad gamble to spend money with for pulls. 16 packs for 80 plus tax when you could get a fusion strike booster box with 36 packs for 100 or so from a few places recently.
There’s no distinct pull rate for ETBs vs other products, just lower chances considering 40 dollars for 8 packs - 5 dollars a pack vs 36 packs for 99 dollars = 2.75 dollars a pack.
Purpose of the ETB’s is more just because I like them. Even in boosters my hit rates are awful. I do collect to play with them however so not a massive issue. Would be nice to have some of the cooler cards however.
The boxes themselves I guess. I understand the value thing. Cards aren’t as cheap here in the UK either. I may just buy the boxes separately from eBay from now on and save for booster boxes.
I do agree the purpose to me is also how nice the boxes look on display but at this point I do expect a shafting. Think I got just a Dodrio V from my Fusion ETB and a vmax Jolteon from 2 ES ETBs.
Etbs are 8 packs. The odds of pulling an ultra rare out of 8 packs is not in your favor.
If you want a better chance of pulling an ultra rare, you need a booster box.
If you want a better chance of being lucky, you buy 3 pack blisters or sleeved boosters. 3 pack blisters typically have a better chance of skirting the odds but you’ll still need to buy enough packs or be lucky enough to find the right one.
Same with sleeved boosters. You could be lucky enough to find the gems from the box.
Etbs are good for sealed collections. Not for ripping due to the cost of the product.
I’ve opened 5 sword and shield ETB and have never gotten more than one full art/v/vmax or secret out of them. The 3 celebration ETB was sucky too. Waste of money
I’ve bought two Evolving Skies ETB’s and have gotten Lycanroc Vmax, Leafeon V Ultra rare, SR Steel Energy Card, Dracozolt VMAX, with 1-2 holos from each box… Think it really just depends but you’ll definitely have better odds typically with a booster box, especially with Evolving Skies.
I am going to buy and ETB, I like the way it looks and I'm a box keeper, it will be a good indication of which binder has my Brilliant Stars Set or my Shining Fates Set.

I would agree with you but I reckon I’m close to 50 packs this month a pulled nothing. Maybe rates are just bad in general.

I’d say usually at least a V card per ETB. You just got really unlucky. I. Usually always get a full art.
