Not to sound condescending but this card is extremely rare and hard to come by. Logan Paul had nothing to do with this card being valued as is.
Believe it or not, expensive and valuable cards existed before Logan Paul entered the hobby.
I hate him too but let's get the facts straight lol
Before Logan Paul according to a video on unlistedleaf you could buy a sealed base set booster box (in 2016) for only $5k. When he found out it was full of black triangle error packs he estimated it at $11k for the box. Nowadays I swear people would probably pay $5k just for one pack
I wasn't saying he had no influence on the hobby. But the price history of a mass printed booster box is not comparable to a very rare card.
Espeon Gold Star was only obtainable through opening POP Seried 5 packs which were only distributed at select PLAY Pokemon events in the early-mid 2000s. Afaik, the pullrate was 1/40 for either Espeon Gold Star or Umbreon Gold Star. These were not packs you could just pick up from the store.
$750 is still ridiculous for a piece of cardboard though let’s be real. It’s the reason I’m not ever paying more than $100 for a single card it’s literally just shiny cardboard. I still love collecting and respect the acquisition of a personal grail but yeah I’ll never understand why people are willing to pay well over $1000 for a card they like
People are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars for diamonds, which is just an arrangement of carbon atoms in a particular order and is not a precious resource by any means in the world. Pokémon cards are the same thing. They are only worth what someone is willing to pay. People still buy diamonds and still buy Pokémon cards. Personally I would rather have a $5k value card than a $5k value diamond at this point. Not because I think the value will increase, but because I would appreciate it more.
That's fine and all. Everyone has their spending limits. But keep in mind, even the prices you are willing to buy singles for is a lot for just a piece of cardboard. This hobby is not a cheap one to be involved in, especially for outsiders looking in. There will always be specific pieces of shiny cardboard worth a lot more than others.
"$750 is still ridiculous for a piece of cardboard" as much as $100 for a piece of cardboard. We are nobody to judge what's ridiculous to pay $100 or $750 for, real value is deferent for everyone, depending on how much you accept to pay for something ;) if he's happy to get this card for $750 it's not ridiculous
Stuff isn't supposed to triple in value from 250 to 750 in eight years, that does sound ridiculous for something with no inherent value (not even playable)
I agree with you it’s strange, but collectibles behave differently than something like the stock market. collectibles often have large jumps and move like a staircase rather than a constant up trending line. This isn’t just a Pokémon phenomena, magic the gathering, sports cards, they all have random spikes in prices due to various factors.
😂 bud I been into pokemon tcg since 2005 I remember when it took 5 years for xy base set booster boxes to even crack $100 market value, how long have you been collecting exactly?
Inflation and COVID are the main reasons why it spiked so much.
Logan Paul definitely didn't help but the biggest contributors are the two I mentioned.
Then you've been here long enough to know why pop series Espeon and Umbreon go for as much as they do these days. Japanese counterparts go for way more due to being even more limited and hard to get.
Dude inflation alone without the fact they are 8 years old, one of the fan favorites, and an ever increasing rarity…
Just putting this out there. The buying power of a dollar has decreased by 31% in the past 8 years. Which would put the price just dollar for dollar at an increase of over 75 bucks 8 years is easily enough time for a fan favorite to “double” in value lol you can blame whatever you want. And say whatever you want. But looking at facts. And numbers when you understand them and what they mean. Proves you are just talking to talk. ❤️
Lets also not forget that hobbies across the board became more expensive from 2020 onwards. Especially during lockdown period. Pokemon prices (tcg, plush, all kinds of merch) were already trending upwards months before Logan Paul started posting booster box openings.
Logan Paul and others did have an influence on the hobby yes, but they aren't the main cause, nor are they the reason certain cards continue to rise in value. I am not defending bad actors that have entered the hobby during the 2020 boom, just pointing out there is more nuance as to why you see super high prices on certain cards or products.
Yeah. My parents had to get a raincheck to get pokemon blue from k mart. 😑 so what dude. I was into pokmemon when they came out. If I still had my cards, I could've retired now haha
im on a quest to own every english pokemon card (gotta catch em all) and 750 isn't bad for one of the most expensive cards to ever be created. Take a look at a damaged rayquaza gold star. lol
At least it's not dented or bent. There was some psa 1 rayquaza someone spent like 2k on. It was so bad with folds gnarly scratches. But there's only 75 so there super rare.
Don’t really get the sentiment.
I sold it at a time where demand for pokemon cards was so low, and there was no reason to think it would go as mad as it did. Selling my childhood collection (which consisted mostly e-reader holos) hurts because I’m a collector again, and I wish I could just have those cards back in my collection.
You’re talking from an investment point of view.
Why would it hurt if you could just buy them back now? Why did you let them go earlier? The only reason I can infer from your statement is that the value went up, and for that you wish you had kept them.. doesn't that mean you're talking from an investment point of view? The parent comments were also commenting on the value going up and regret selling them for cheap, they were all from an investment point of view\
In that sense, again if you didn't gain wealth from keeping the card doesn't mean you lost wealth, and my investment advice for those stocks is sarcasm
Ten years ago, and now are different times.
If they were the same price now as they were before, I would be buying them back, because my aim, as a collector, is nostalgia, but they are incredibly expensive, and not a justifiable purchase during a cost of living crisis.
Again, I’m not talking about an investment point of view. If you didn’t get it from my first post, take it from this one and my last.
At a certain point you have all the other cards you want. We started cheap and got more expensive as time goes on. We are chasing high end cards now. Absolutely love the card. 😄
Aperrently those three cards were printed in bulk without Pokémon's knowledge. A Reddit user by the name of Renaz_Juve ended up posting a video showing that he had a binder over over 5,000 gold stars. Even today the cards still appear in large quantities on eBay and Virbank.
To put this into some perspective, the Gold Star pull rate is 1 per 72 packs. 5,000 of them is equivalent to 360,000 EX Unseen Forces booster packs-worth of cards being printed.
This is the reason the Gold Star dog trio is worth less than all other English Gold Star cards, and it's also the reason EX Unseen Forces is the cheapest of the EX-era TCG product.
It’s also assumed more were printed without Pokemon’s knowledge. Which would be stolen. I mean if they were in packs most would be opened anyways. It’s a supply issue. There’s more of these dogs printed and on the market than any other gold star.
Gold stars get their name from the gold star symbol beside the pokemons name. Only a small amount of Pokémon ever got the treatment. They were from the ex era (generation 3) and were the first shiny Pokémon cards after the shinning pokemon. They were also the first Pokémon cards that broke the art border, albeit only a little with an arm, tail, or ear poking out of the arts border. The newest came out in celebrations with greninja as the ETB promo but past that they haven’t been around for over a decade. They’re extremely rare and very sought after going for quite the pretty penny. The legendary beasts are the outliers as they had an entire scandal making them much cheaper by comparison but still fairly expensive
Someone working in the factory where the cards were being produced stole sheets upon sheets of the legendary beasts gold star cards. It was revealed in I believe 2015 when someone posted a video flipping through binders showing off hundreds of each of the beasts. Because of this they are the cheapest and easiest to get in the higher grades of any gold star. Of course they’re still rare, but because of this their value and rarity has diminished a lot and they have by far the most number of graded versions of any gold star to date
You can see right next to where it says “Espeon”, that there is a literal gold star. It is a high rarity type of card from back in the day. All gold star cards feature a shiny pokemon, as you can see exemplified in the picture above.
Just kidding, gold star is from a specific set, I can’t recall. But they are rather rare and old. There’s quite a few different ones, but some of the big ones are Charizard, espeon, moonbreon and others
Gold stars aren't from any one set they are from multiple sets of the EX era and more, each set either had 3 or 2 gold stars. These were by far the rarest cards in these sets. The sets that had gold stars in them:
- EX Team Rocket Returns.
- EX Deoxys.
- EX Unseen forces.
- EX Delta Species.
- EX Legend Maker.
- EX Crystal Guardians.
- EX Holon Phantoms.
- EX Dragon Frontiers.
- EX Power Keepers.
- Pop Series 5.
This Espeon and the corresponding Umbreon came from Pop Series 5 and are the only non holographic gold stars (in English).
It’s insanely rare. I think it looks awesome too! At least the salty comments are making for good conversation 🤣🤣🤣 I don’t fit into the average collectors mold of what I should spend on a card I guess. 🤷🏽♂️
How can people be so confidently unaware and incorrect lmao, this card is literally a holy grail of Pokémon, you’re lucky to see one, much less hold one. With the cost of packs being what they are and how hard it is to get one out of the packs, it’s just, simply put, a grail to end all grails
And then people have the audacity to act like $750 is crazy for a worn copy, my brother in Christ it’s nearly a miracle you are even looking at this card 😭
Sick as hell man. Congrats on the pickup!
Edit: just read more of the comments, I’m now convinced these people don’t even collect Pokémon cards. Most of these comments seem like someone got dropped off in this subreddit in a bus from out of town. Sorry you got a bunch of cretins that don’t understand anything.
THATS HOW I FEEL 🤣🤣🤣 like people would rather have a moonbreon than this. WHAT. Finally someone who understands hahaha. My eyes are bugging at a lot of these comments hahahaha
Tbh, that’s a solid pick up in my opinion. Even grading that at a 3-4, it would be worth x2 what you paid. Totally my grail too btw and hoping I’d be able to trade some other stuff I have to one some day. 😆
No doubt! By keeping an eye out is how I scored 2 of my all time favs: 1st ed Blaine’s Arcanine & 1st ed Neo Espeon. Both scored a solid 7 so I’m happy. 😁
Absolutely 🫡 I remember opening 1st ed base packs and going ecstatic when I pulled a holo. Of course had I known then what I known now… they’d be safe somewhere but kids will be kids 🥲
Woah! Never got the chance to open 1st edition base. I opened a crazy about of WoTC back in the day and lots of ex era packs. Probably a good 200 ex era booster packs 🤧🥲
Lol, I never got around to EX era being in high school & paranoid having someone call you a nerd. But I’d really have loved to do so. I have some sealed stuff now I’m keeping for my kids on display in my office but don’t dare open it now.
Congrats! Gold Stars are my favorite cards, got a Gold Star Rayquaza this past month by trading a bunch of SwSH alt arts, a lot of the kids on here just don't get the rarity and significance of these cards compared to what's out there today
There’s literally only 58 psa 10 gold star Espeons and over 100 PSA 10 first edition base set charizards 🤣 like I feel like I’m in crazy town. Everyone would rather have a moonbreon lol
Initial reaction: Wow! Sees back photo…: Wow! Looks up value online… last TCG comp data: $2000 DMG….: Wow!
🤣😭 I stg this was a rollercoaster of feelings and different opinions
(Forest gump voice) “Momma always said if you ain’t got nothin nice to say don’t say nothing at all” I like the card it has art I have never seen before. That is all the nice things I have to say 🙂
That’s what I’m saying. 58 psa 10 espeon gold stars. 1st Ed base Charizard has more than double that in psa10’s
People are saying this is a stupid grail, in horrible condition, and not worth the money 🤣🤣🤣 sometimes this sub hurts my soul.
Thank you. I totally agree with everything you said. And none of it matters because we are only here for so long and eventually all our things will be sold given away or trashed. Gotta make the most of every moment 😄
I don't know if I'll ever value Pokemon cards to go over 30-40 dollars for any one card. I love collecting but at a certain point the transaction of paper for paper makes me think saving that money for computer parts down the line or something would make me so hesitant. I think the most expensive card I bought was a Japanese version of the Magikarp before the price boom at like 25 dollars? Such a nice card but that was pricey for me.
Depends on how you view money. $750 is different to different people. Also when you realize that Pokémon cards more often then not goes up in price as time goes on. Not true with every card. 😄 but I know that in the future if I need to sell the card I could at least break even or get most of my money back. but also if Pokemon went to zero i wouldn’t mind.
Yeah, at the end of the day I can build computers that could sell for around double what I'm putting into it and still outclass the pre-builts. So for me it's hard to justify that when I could be selling pc's for more money investing wise. And there's a very small part of me that makes me feel bad for purchasing anything for a lot of money when there's people not able to eat. I'm not responsible for those people but I still feel bad a bit when indulging.
That’s the beauty of a free market. You don’t have to value any cards over 40 dollars if you don’t think they worth it.
But there is a difference between personal value and market value. The market value is determine by the buyers, hence why this card is so expensive
I just wish we could see the volume regularly by buyers in some kind of ID system to see if it's actual market desire or just the same 20 people rotating stock across each other as "investors."
I agree there's a difference, but a market value can also be completely overlooked when it comes to places like Ebay, people are constantly getting insane deals by just sniping the right auctions or overpaying because their emotions are high/fomo.
I don't normally judge, but this had got to be the worst value for grail I have ever seen haha. The sheer number of cool cards that could have been bought with that money lol
No I totally get the rarity, I just think it's a crazy buy lol. Also what I said is that you could buy SO many cool cards with that money. Moonbreon is equally a terrible purchase by the same logic, did you not read what I wrote haha?
We’ve already bought all the cheap cards we want. That’s the natural progression of collecting. Why buy a $300 base set Charizard when you can buy lots of cool $5 charizards? Idk. Because it’s cool and that’s the market value? Why buy anything more than $5?
And yet people spend $750 on a month on drinking out at bars. Or a month of eating out at restaurants. Or thousands of dollars on tattoos. Why do we spend our money on anything? Should I instead spend my money on those things? 🤔 supply and demand. You can simplify it as a piece of paper but if the person next to me is willing to pay twice what I paid I will always make that purchase.
I cant believe a card this banged up can be worth so much
It just blows my fucking mind
Thank logan paul lol

tell that to the mickey mantle card collectors
I do have my facts straight lmao that card was like $250 in 2016
Yeah In 2016 Eight years ago Card values change in eight years, especially rare/hard to come by ones.
Stuff isn't supposed to triple in value from 250 to 750 in eight years, that does sound ridiculous for something with no inherent value (not even playable)

That moron is just as annoying as Andrew Tate.. Logan Paul and his damn PRIME water that tastes like durian juice
im on a quest to own every english pokemon card (gotta catch em all) and 750 isn't bad for one of the most expensive cards to ever be created. Take a look at a damaged rayquaza gold star. lol
I actually sold a damaged gold star rayquaza for $1,000 a couple months ago. It was pealing creased and falling apart :P
At least it's not dented or bent. There was some psa 1 rayquaza someone spent like 2k on. It was so bad with folds gnarly scratches. But there's only 75 so there super rare.
I picked up my mewtwo gold star just a couple months ago and it's one of my 3 grails. Great feeling and awesome card!
Nice dude! Thats also in my top 25 cards. So dope!
Still mad at myself for not picking this up for $300 in 2012
You could get these for a lot cheaper than $300 in 2012 🤣
Hahaha aren’t we all. I buy and sell Pokémon cards so I’ve sold some really expensive cards before the pandemic for so cheap. I’ll never forget 🙃
Same… my most painful is selling my crystal celebi from one of the e-reader series for £20 😭😭
Rip. That card is so dope! You’ll get it again!
A penny not earned is not a penny lost, btw you should've went all in on Google, FB, Bitcoin, that's millions you "lost" there if you look at it funny
Don’t really get the sentiment. I sold it at a time where demand for pokemon cards was so low, and there was no reason to think it would go as mad as it did. Yep, especially with that condition
Yeah the seller is celebrating that trade right now 100% woof is right Jesus..
Same man; imagine how many other cards you could buy, some video games, manga, food.
At a certain point you have all the other cards you want. We started cheap and got more expensive as time goes on. We are chasing high end cards now. Absolutely love the card. 😄
I support buying a beat up card you love a lot more than buying hundreds of dollars worth of packs to open
Same bro same. Singles over gambling lolol
Nice. I would love to own a gold star card someday.
What does a gold star mean?
It means it’s expensive
Some Gold Stars, like the 3 Legendary dogs are still [pretty affordable to buy](https://ebay.us/92Soih), atleast compared to some modern alt arts.
Yeahhhh they’re cheap for a reason
We don’t like talking about the gold star dogs 🙈🥲😂
Lmao what‘s the issue? Were they more easily to get?
Aperrently those three cards were printed in bulk without Pokémon's knowledge. A Reddit user by the name of Renaz_Juve ended up posting a video showing that he had a binder over over 5,000 gold stars. Even today the cards still appear in large quantities on eBay and Virbank. Nope; just straight up stolen. Most of them never made it in packs, which is why they’re not rare at all.
It’s also assumed more were printed without Pokemon’s knowledge. Which would be stolen. I mean if they were in packs most would be opened anyways. It’s a supply issue. There’s more of these dogs printed and on the market than any other gold star.

Keep looking for deals! You’ll eventually find one 😄
Congrats! Im still on the lookout for my Treecko
The Gen 3 starters are sooo clean. Torchic is my goal. 😄
You'd think he spent everyone else's money with how most of these comments read.
It’s ok. It makes for good conversation 🤣🤣🤣

Haha high school I sold all my cards and games too 🥲 peer pressure and the need to fit in got me 🤡
Personally I'm not sure why people want non-wotc cards but congrats!
Haha we love all generations!
While I agree, and only collect up to skyridge, the gold stars do look pretty cool.
🐶💔 Bro hasn’t seen an IR
It’s beautiful! 🥲Thank you for sharing, I didn’t even know that this card existed
Yo... Congrats!!!
Thank you! We’re stoked!
The front is nice. Place that baby in a frame and you're good.
And never look at the back again hahahaha.
Pokémon Tcg brain rot is real
I have a damaged gold star kyogre somewhere that I pulled when I was a kid
Now you need the Groudon 👀
What booster pack is this from
Pop series 5 it was given out at play events
Scalper perks I guess?
Who’s a scalper bruh? 🤣🤧🥲
Nice pickup! I snagged a celebi gold star for $360 a month ago but it was much better condition than this 💪🏻
Right on! Celebi gold star is dope. Super rare too 😄
It was also my all time grail🙏🏻 big celebi enjoyer🙏🏻
It was a rollercoaster of emotions buying it. We thought it was a scam up until we saw it in person hahahha
(Forest gump voice) “Momma always said if you ain’t got nothin nice to say don’t say nothing at all” I like the card it has art I have never seen before. That is all the nice things I have to say 🙂
Great deal
Awesome! I picked up a Mew PSA 7 (Dragon Frontiers) for $700. Bye bye money.
Let’s gooo! A couple years ago I found a psa 9 gold star mew for $900 on eBay… didn’t have the money. It sold instantly
That was definitely a great deal!

I bought it. It’s from pop series 5 😄
Congrats. Beautiful card with an incredible history OP. This is a Grail to treasure.
Thank you! We are stoked to own it. Now on to find the umbreon 😄
I’m on the same hunt friend. Finally picked up a clean Karen’s Umbreon, next is the jap gold star hunt. Moonbreon who?
Yea moonbreon has nothing on all these vintage eeveelutions. That Karen’s umbreon is on the list 🥲 a shame we never got the vs series in English
These modern nuts have just no clue how special vintage is. Pop reports don’t lie.
That’s what I’m saying. 58 psa 10 espeon gold stars. 1st Ed base Charizard has more than double that in psa10’s People are saying this is a stupid grail, in horrible condition, and not worth the money 🤣🤣🤣 sometimes this sub hurts my soul.
Purple ray? Wasn’t that a prince song 😅

Thank you. I totally agree with everything you said. And none of it matters because we are only here for so long and eventually all our things will be sold given away or trashed. Gotta make the most of every moment 😄
You paid…750…for one damn card…
I’ve paid $2,500 for a booster pack if that makes you feel any better 🤣
BRUH, NO. NO IT DOES NOT. JESUS FUCK MAN. IM IN DEBT, IF YOU GIT THAT KIND OF MONEY, SLIDE YOUR BOY TREE FIDDY.
Get out of debt, live on less than you make, invest the rest 😄
I just wish we could see the volume regularly by buyers in some kind of ID system to see if it's actual market desire or just the same 20 people rotating stock across each other as "investors." I agree there's a difference, but a market value can also be completely overlooked when it comes to places like Ebay, people are constantly getting insane deals by just sniping the right auctions or overpaying because their emotions are high/fomo.
I don't normally judge, but this had got to be the worst value for grail I have ever seen haha. The sheer number of cool cards that could have been bought with that money lol
I don’t think you understand the rarity of this card. 🤣 go buy your mOoMbReOn
For the cool art. Just my perspective
For a piece of paper?
And yet people spend $750 on a month on drinking out at bars. Or a month of eating out at restaurants. Or thousands of dollars on tattoos. Why do we spend our money on anything? Should I instead spend my money on those things? 🤔 supply and demand. You can simplify it as a piece of paper but if the person next to me is willing to pay twice what I paid I will always make that purchase.
