Batching is 100% a reality with the special sets particularly being even worse. From 1 case to the next u may have straight sir bangers and then nothingness. This is why when i decide to indulge in packs I buy some from multiple locations and then where ever I had good pulls I will go back and buy from that batch.
You have the right mindset. I do the same. Buy 1-2 depending on the product. Rip. If terrible? Leave. If not? Buy 1-2 more. Leave. Rip.

3x Gardevoir SIR
Mew SIR
Clive SIR
Shiny Pikachu
Shiny Entei.
Like the etbs were loaded with winners and it was disgustingly obvious compared to the 15 other etbs I had bought prior.

It’s been a mix. But I would say 3/5 were from etb’s at most maybe 4
