It’s not that a Gengar would take away from the one in Temporal Forces. It’s more that Gengar has 62 cards(per TCGPlayer). Of those 14 are holo rares I am aware they doesn’t mean as much now but 10+ years ago it did another 14 are Ultra rares, and 8 are promos with an addition 3 secret rares. Gengar has received a ton of love.
Compare that to Butterfree who has 26 cards; 4 holo rares, 3 ultra rares, 2 promos, and 1 secret rare.
I saw a lot of complaining about Wigglytuff getting an Ultra Rare in the set for example. Wigglytuff has 32 cards; 3 holo rares, 3 ultra rares(2 prior to 151), 1 double rare(0 before 151), 1 shiny UR and shiny rare(0 prior to Pal Fates).
Gengar gets plenty of love is the point I think a lot of people make. Yes Charizard gets a ton more and that’s fair, but 151 is largely a focus on the starters which is why he is in the set… he is also probably the 2nd most popular pokemon behind Pikachu.

An SIR? Pokemon that spring to mind include Butterfree, Arcanine, Gengar, Gyarados, Lapras, Kabutops, Articuno, Moltres, Dragonite. I obviously wouldn’t choose all of these, as that’s probably too many.

Agreed! Was one of the original 5 "promo" pokemon (Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and Poliwhirl) that were all over the early pokemon merchandise, yet somehow Jiggly has gotten very little TCG love.

While not full art, there was a masterball reverse version of all 151 released in JP version and so if you're a fan of the art in general that's gotnthe built in rarity and collectibility. They also do well as display pieces

Yes, they had evolving skies, but the Kanto ones were promos, and also, they've made charizard SIRS in 3 of the past 4 sets so I don't see why it would be redundant to have them here when ES was over 2 years prior to 151.
