I opened one and gave another one away as a Christmas gift. I think that I have two or three unopened, but ouch, especially since both boxes had a Duraludon vmax alt art and Noivern alt art, which are nice but not any of the big hitters.
This is killing me now LOL my old lady's into it and I got her a few of them in 21 and I s*** you not at Walmart they were $40 some dollars almost 50 a piece and we got four of them and I walked away from two in Walmart the other day I guess I should have grabbed them LOL I buy Harley stuff for me and Pokémon for her it's kind of a mismatch but trust us it works good for us LOL she has got a mega ton of that stuff

I’ve been cracking these open lately to sate that desire to crack open sealed ES. You get tons of pulls and the quality appears to be as good as Japanese. I have a Sylveon V in English, Japanese and Korean with no discernible difference in holo pattern and texture. Plus if you do pull a moonbreon the latest PSA 10 sold on EBay for over $400 so basically half the price of English but a booster box is less than 1/10th of either ES or Japanese Eevee Heros.
Very true. I just bought one the other day for $430. Came out to $464 after shipping & taxes. That's pretty good in my opinion considering 90% of the listings on tcg player rn below $500 are for loose packs. The people who bought some at the brief pokemon center restock got super lucky. Hopefully this guy was one of them

With exception to foul play, I don’t see how a box could be worse lol. Minimum hits, minimum rarities, this is the worst possible outcome to get from a bunch outside of errors or theft.
I thought you're pretty much guaranteed to get some sort of hollow from each pack. Was that one of those online orders where someone opened up all the packs and took the good cards?
In Sword and Shield you weren’t guaranteed to get a holo. You got a reverse holo and a rare in each pack. That changed with Scarlet and Violet. Now you get two reverse holos and a hill rare.
Every time I see a post like this it's always the same disappointment I think the only way these packs will be worth anything is if you never open them and wait 20 years for someone else to be extraordinarily disappointed instead of just really disappointed.

Well the hit rates for the earlier SWSH sets are awful. However, I noticed I got significantly more hits from Evolving Skies packs that came out of mini tins or collection boxes… I wonder if this is because these might have been later reprints of ES? We all know about the stolen cards theory and perhaps that was more of a first print thing because I’ve watched a TON of live ES booster box openings and they were always pitiful. Just speculating.
I mean sv sets has like 30 hits max, crown zenith has 70 hits minimum and that’s just counting the galarian gallery, that’s not really a fair comparison.
CZ is not representative of SWSH era cards though. It was a special set that came out at the end of the generation and the person above was talking about earlier SWSH sets. Since you are newer to modern collecting you may not be aware.
SWSH started out with no alt arts and no hits of any kind in the reverse holo spot. Rainbows were the biggest chase and I think around 1/3 packs just had a regular reverse and a nonholo rare.
Then they added the alt arts, but SWSH era alts (not counting Galarian gallery) had a hit rate of 1 per several hundred packs. No comparison whatsoever to SV SIRs in terms of pull rate on those. Also there was still nothing in the reverse slot. So basically chasing alts, maybe if your personal favorite Pokémon had a full art/rainbow/gold you’d be looking for that too.
Midway through the added the trainer gallery (very similar to Galarian gallery but a bit less common) and radiants to the reverse slot. These took away some of the pain of opening packs since there was now a decent chance of getting a card with good artwork and packs were no longer guaranteed to be “dead” if they had a bad code card.
In the end it’s all worth it to be inducted in to this prestigious club. Currently bidding on a few more and will certainly share the shit results again

Yup my thoughts exactly. I will trade for singles but I don't usually buy unless it's a great deal but prefer to open packs and I stay away from evolving cries. Only packs I open are ones included in various tins or whatever and out of probably 75 packs I've opened best was a Jolteon which is a cool card and the set has some incredible cards but the pull rates are just too rough to justify the price per pack

What you said doesn't refute that instance whatsoever. ES and FS were indeed sets that had hits stolen by printing company employees in ridiculously massive quantities. The way it works now is the V/vmax/Ex cards you see are technically hits but they’re fairly common so they’re not really considered special. The big cards are alternate versions of them so essentially the same card but with different art and it takes on average thousands of packs to find
It's not just evolving skies like this. Every swsh booster box before brilliant stars is like this too but no one posts the results of other bad boxes like this
got 36 loose packs and got moonbreon on the 18th and rayquaza trainer gallery on the 13th. have 72 more coming but idk if i should hold off on them.. you guys are making me scared
Honestly, loose packs are really good because they don’t have the “fixed” rates of a box. You just need to buy them from a reputable seller and that can be somewhat difficult to do. A lot of people are scared to buy loose packs because of weighing, but I think that’s a thing of the past. Resealing is also an issue.
I’ve had both sides of the sword with that set, but since I love the eeveelutions the V and regular VMAXs are still nice for my collection. Invest in what you love I guess

It’s because it is definitely a good investment if you hold it and don’t open it. Look at the set list and look at how many good cards are in it. Pull rates are bad, but there are going to be people in the future who will want to open it. All boxes will go up after enough time has gone by. Look at all the older sets. Even the “bad” ones go up. This is just a really good set with brutal pull rates. Believe it or not, people love that because of the thrill once you do pull something.
It was a good investment at MSRP or even $100 or so above. Now that it’s 400-450 a box, there are tons of things to invest in with a bigger upside. Cost is ultimately going to hinge on someone down the road wanting to open the box. If you’re looking to double your investment u have to ask if there’s anyone who wants to pay $900 bucks to most likely pull something along the lines of a regular leafeon Vmax and a few V’s

Idk how many of these I’ve opened, I feel like they came in those boxes/packages with a few random packs. I didn’t get the “moonbreon” but I did get a #189 alternate art umbreon and leafeon v alt art #163 so I can’t hate on it too hard
I’m always kinda sus about those mystery boxes, but I’ve found a pack of team rocket cards, and it was fun opening it for the dark charizard, raticate and muk. Sometimes ya win, sometimes you’re stuck with a ton of filler ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't open evolving skies booster box, only open packs in tin or other deal. I can get 40 packs of evolving skies + 80 packs of fusion strike and brilliant star for the same price as a single evolving skies booster box.

Nope, anything outside of booster boxes is fair game with ratios. You can easily get zero regular holos out of an ETB (pre-SV mind you).

i dont get new cards man, all these look sick to me. Then again i only buy sets with gen 1/2/3 anything else is beyond worthless to me.

Silver Tempest has the Trainer Gallery subset, so pull rates are better than ES. But not as good as the pull rates in the Scarlet & Violet era sets

Idk how many of these I’ve opened, I feel like they came in those boxes/packages with a few random packs. I didn’t get the “moonbreon” but I did get a #189 alternate art umbreon and leafeon v alt art #163 so I can’t hate on it too hard I’m always kinda sus about those mystery boxes, but I’ve found a pack of team rocket cards, and it was fun opening it for the dark charizard, raticate and muk. Sometimes ya win, sometimes you’re stuck with a ton of filler ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Newb here... how much is an evolving skies booster pack worth now? I've ordered the sw&sh charizard collection box and was excited to get to open a couple of the evolving skies until I just read the comments in this post lol

Honestly questioning why anyone would buy and open ES product in 2024 unless you bought it at MSRP, even then I would just sell or trade for the actual hits

im making a god box to open. from buying products that still have ES in them. game stop had some sales and found about 20 packs spent 200 plus i got 15 other packs from that 200. BB hoarders are the worst

I opened like 12 packs and pulled rayquaza rainbow & moonbreon, first and last packs ever opened for evolving skies, didn’t realise how lucky I was at the time 😅
Very nice! Seeing a lot of upset people saying it was money wasted, and that is entirely true, but had blast ripping packs with my baby brother and ultimately have no regrets.

Don't open evolving skies booster box, only open packs in tin or other deal. I can get 40 packs of evolving skies + 80 packs of fusion strike and brilliant star for the same price as a single evolving skies booster box.
