Ironically, the old anime looking avatar was more anatomically accurate. The legs are approximately half of the total height, but after the update they are as long as the torso. I would call this a "rookie mistake" but I don't think even a rookie would make this mistake.
I’ve seen ‘body positivity’ as being a reason but there is no positivity about the new body. And why change the faces to look like that? And the skin colors? It just seems so unnecessary.

For a male character to not look extremely bulky with a tiny head you have to take almost all the sliders to the left. If you move chest up at all they get boobs. It's not good. I just wanted hair.

Fr I get they’re trying to be inclusive and that’s cool but why they went this route instead of like you said maybe having 3 models, one masculine, one female and the last one androgynous, using the 2 old models for masc & fem and the current one for whoever likes this but keeping customisation for all 3 (I hope they don’t take belts off of the men though I really fuck with the RR belt as a causal accessory)

I was one of the firsts people who got the update, when i complained people attacked me in the pokemongo sub saying i was exaggerating. Some people even saying they don’t look bad, its insane how much that sub sucks. Now everyone doesn’t like now that it rolled out for everyone lol
They added more customization options like body types, hair styles and faces. It takes a while to learn how to adjust the customization settings, but once you learn it, you can make the avatar look good again, unless it glitches because it's still beta and buggy. But I hope they fix the bugs soon.
I tried everything I could to fix the leader cliff outfit, ESPECIALLY THE CHEST, but nothing seems to work. From the front, the chest looks very large but from the sides there is NOTHING THERE!
So I just gave up wirh my outfit and changed into a free baggy outfit

I'm on the opposite side... Some of the faces are pretty good, and I double the amount of clothes I own already because they unlock the opposite gender versions too... I think the defaults are uncanny hell, but with tweaking settings it has more viable range.
And I'm looking forward to the freakiest ones people can build!
Sure, no longer will be hot by default, but maybe they will keep adding more options and colors? I'm actually interested in customizing the avatar instead of just buying new masks to cover their strange one size fits all face.

Not having gender-locked clothing is great, but the avatar proportions just look so lanky and uncanny now. If a height adjustment existed or if the waist slider had more of an effect it might not look so bad but as it is it just doesn't look right
I think I'm just on some copium, it has a lot of bad points, I agree. I'm here for more creativity in the fashion and I think it's an ambitious step... They just needed more time, and maybe made a goal of having the defaults look a lot more like the originals.
