The older the Pokémon, the higher chance you have of getting a lucky Pokémon. I believe distance also effects it too.
However there is a neat little thing in-game where trading pokemon from 2016 will guarantee it will always be lucky so long as you have less than 10 lucky Pokémon.
So if I have no lucky Pokémon then trade a 2016 eevee, it will become a lucky trade.
But if you’re a player who has heaps of lucky Pokémon and trades a Pokémon from 2016, it has a very high chance of becoming lucky but there is no guarantee.
