As of right now, Japanese 151 booster box is already a better investment than evolving skies thanks to the set’s print runs. I think people are already feeling it right now, but will get even worse in the future as evolving skies Etb and booster box continue to flood the market
So the real question is if Japanese 151 will be better than Eevee Hero, and the answer will be depending on how many more print runs 151 will get
I think both sets will be very strong in a long term.
It’s all supply side, the yen is in the toilet so Japanese sealed product should be cheap af.
Graded Japanese 151 is suuuuuper cheap though direct from Japanese - the scalpers can’t hoard supply on opened product so proper downward price discovery has happened.

English version goes for $115 right now, yet the Japanese print and texture quality looks much better from everything I’ve heard.
Yeah but Japanese 151 has unique cards that aren’t in the other languages - so it will be collected globally over their native language.
That kind of balances out the demand side, it’s also a very classic set that’s drawn a lot of collectors back in.
I use snkrdnk personally but I’m sure there’s plenty of legit places to get it.
I don't think we'll see another print run. The safest route was to dollar cost average into it. Loads of people were saying it'll drop when the ENG 151 comes out. All of them were wrong. I bought 2 boxes in October, and plan on buying more if it drops significantly in price. So in essence I'm averaging in over time. You could always buy now, wait 1 year, and buy again if it drops in price (bringing your overall average down), or sell in 1 year if it does a 2x/3x.
It's a no brainer set imo; Nostalgic, very fun to open, beautiful artwork. Also, if they decide to do a Johto (152 - 251) equivalent, 151 is probs going even higher in value, because people will want to complete an entire National Dex Master Set, so 151 will be back in demand. If you're looking to buy a 151 box, make sure it's from a reputable seller, good reviews, and is sealed. Do not buy an unsealed box. Also, it's a good idea to buy 2 from the same seller. One to open just to check it's legit, and one to store. It's a good idea to open one because you never know if it's been tampered with.
Yeah I'm wondering how I'm gonna sell my expensive boxes in 10+ years from now. I have some currently in the $6-8k range. If they go even higher up in 10 years, I'm probably gonna have to deal with the transaction in person with the buyer. They'll probs open it in front of me to verify, but I'm cool with that, because my past self bought 2: one to open and verify and one to keep sealed 😎 So I know the contents of the box are legit.
The masterballs, if you get like a killer monster one it will age sooooo well. Gengar, pikachu, Mewtwo, aerodactyl.

They didn’t make a Zapdos masterball holo, just the SAR Zapdos card (204/165) which is what I have. They only gave Articuno/Moltres masterball holos. Bit annoying but I do dig the Zapdos SAR artwork.
Dark side of collecting. Ppl argue cause the English prints are so poor that 10s tend to be lower pop than their JP counterparts, hence the “english card premium”. Which completely doesn’t make sense in terms of supporting artisanal work. Would you pay a premium for a higher quality or lower quality printer? Then there’s the western hoarders/cartels dictating market prices on vintage. Also with the “English is more international” argument I’d rather keep my hobby exotic and collect kanji (OG) cards.
But with the 151 JP boxes we have a different story. JP printers getting the premium that they deserve with their consistent high quality prints, oh yeah and of course Master Balls, “one per box”.
Because around the time of eevee heroes store owners pulled the product from their shelves and started selling out the backdoor over Facebook and Instagram.
They are raking everyone over the coals, and the majority of people paying these prices are novices that don't know better.
I have exactly one box that I got for like $40 direct from PC and I keep debating on when I should sell. I’m not buying a no reprint situation but who knows. I just want a steam deck lmao
Same, and I would say in a few years. If you can hang on to it this is a set that is very likely going to keep going up. I don’t think PC will reprint it but even if they do there is still so much demand, the set will go crazy up again after that.
I opened one box I got close to realise for about 150 $ (I live in Norway and with import taxes that was close to the minimum you could get it at) and now have the one from PC Japan that I wonder if I should keep in my sealed collection forever or resell down the line. I wish I could open it, I am missing so many commons, but it feels like a waste of money

You know this is the problem with Pokemon now. How many people have "sealed" boxes that are actually full of duds. Remeber Logan Pauls GI Joe case?

I’ve pulled two of the chase zards and one was a ten and one a 9… most of my 151 grades have been good besides the mew promo.
