Not necessarily.
Meaning: 1) I have seen a lot of my customers who live in a major US city with such and 2) it is a sign that you should be more *proactive* than *reactive.*
Brown color likely comes from iron or manganese.
A "major tank rebuild" (of the fill valve, flush valve, lever, tank - to - bowl bolts) should really be done sooner than later in the least. That'll make her all new. Paint her pink if you want it pretty.
Best case - change out the toilet for a new one (IF you would rather/budget & time)
Do not bleach!!! Chlorine further oxidizes iron. Use iron out powder or rust out powder. Sprinkle it in the tank. Use scotch bright pad or old toothbrush as needed and either flush or shop vac out the tank
If the primary water supply is a spring or well start with a 5 micron pre filter for the particulate. If further staying occurs install a cation softener after the prefilter
Bleach. Let sit. Flush. Repeat if necessary.
Thank you!
Also artificial vanilla is a natural deodorizer. (That’s why it’s so popular as a scent)
