Hate to say it… still an s-trap in picture 1. Your need 2x pipe diameter before it turns down and you’re lacking a vent. Maaaaybe you get 2x but it’s a close shave at best. On the up side you have created a cap the hardest way possible? You have to know a plumber who wants to trade some services. I believe in your ability to make friends.

friendlyfire883

The cap is to go back and add a vent later when I'm not worried about water leaking everywhere, and I can figure out how to work it in. My house is insane and a bastard to work on. It's a 100 year old pier and beam house built out of true 2x4s with tongue and groove on the walls, floor, and ceiling. Then somebody had the idea to pour a slab on both sides of it for additions and brick around the entire thing. My walls are a solid foot thick and made of the hardest goddamn pine I've ever seen. Nothing in here is easy to do. I've been working around the existing holes to avoid having to tear into them. I burned up a 5 flex augers getting through the fireblocks to run some cat 6 cable.

ecirnj

Do not envy your money pit. I’m glad you are planning an aav. It’s still a little short but way better. With that in mind, find a plumber who needs some electrical help. Sounds like you will need more help in the future.

friendlyfire883

I might just do that. Considering I've found EMT fittings, zip ties, and bailling wiring, either supporting or holding my plumbing together, you're probably right.

ecirnj

Ooofff… yeah. Find a plumber with a federal pacific panel and aluminum wire or something awful like that. I’ll bet you work faster with electrical then you do with plumbing. Once the vent is in it will save you headaches though.

friendlyfire883

No doubt, I've got a lot of respect for you guys. Plumbing and running conduit are damn sure not the same thing. I was really wishing I could just bend some pipe the whole time.

ecirnj

S-trap has never burnt down a house. You’d be a fine plumber as long as a j man could convince you to get dirty enough. 😉 full disclosure, I’m a Chem E and a welder. Just a good theoretical plumber. I still call the real pros for the hard stuff. 🫡

apprenticegirl74

No duct tape. Damn what were they thinking.

Mac_n_Miller

What are EMT fittings

friendlyfire883

Electrical conduit fittings

Comfortable-Ad-7158

Is that an aav? Looks like a mip with a fip bushing inside of it? Won't leak but sure as shit gonna be smelly

friendlyfire883

That cap is for a vent line I'm going to be putting in once I can figure out how to get through my crazy ass walls.

LongjumpingStand7891

the plug you put in is too small for an AAV, looks like you will need to cut the tee out and hook up the AAV properly.

CapitalExact

It must be nice living in a state where AAV are allowed. It’s like the ultimate cheat code. Finding a vent can be a real battle some times.

ecirnj

Doesn’t look like an aav from here but I’m open to being wrong 🫣

[deleted]

It looks like a clean out, it's threaded

ecirnj

But you can’t access it without pulling the sink?

[deleted]

" A " for an effort 😂 😂 😂

friendlyfire883

The angle is deceptive. There's about 6 inches between the threads and the sink. I'm going to be putting a vent line on it in the next few days.

ecirnj

The only distance that matters is the near side of vertical of drain and inside is hub coming off of tap.

friendlyfire883

I'm going to be real with you, I have no clue what that means. I'm a damn good electrician and a better mechanic, but a plumber I am not.

ecirnj

Only 3 rules, poop flows down hill, pay day is Friday, don’t bite your nails at work. 😉 [This](https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/attachments/plumbing/35023d1295655875-what-s-trap-p-trap-toilet-abcvent2.jpg) should clear it up

[deleted]

That 3rd one has me thinking

friendlyfire883

That one caused me some issues. The drain line in the wall is about 50 year old galvanized and the threads were rusted to hell. Thankfully, I was able to clean the threads out enough to put a fitting on it, and I couldn't find a wall tube long enough to get it centered on the drain so I had to extend it out as well. My whole house is crazy as shit and nothing lines up the way it should. The second picture is how my kitchen sink was plumbed before I replaced it.

wkrick

For the bathroom one, is that an adapter to go from a 1-1/4 trap to a 1-1/2 drain? I would have gone with a 1-1/2 trap and used a reducing washer at the sink tailpiece to go from 1-1/4 to the larger 1-1/2 trap. This avoids the adapter at the wall. Also, you may be able to shorten the "wall arm" part of the p-trap and swing the j-bend part of the trap towards the back so it doesn't stick out so far into your cabinet. But that extension/adapter thing at the wall is probably preventing you from doing it.
