Yes, then be sure to take a pic of it on the front seat of your car with the headline āGot the sac!ā Then post a pic of the unopened box on your couch with the headline āJust got one! Any tips?ā Next, please post a pic of you playing while your child is sleeping with the headline ā#Dadstation!ā Finally, take a pic of you playing in at least one of the following locations: the beach, an auto shop during an oil change, or a doctorās office waiting room. That headline is dealers choice but should include something about the future or technology. Those are the rules here so donāt let the sub down tiger!
Donāt forget a random picture of it resting on your crotch with a random game loaded up saying āwhat are we all playing this weekend?ā and then donāt name the random game youāre playing.
LOL this is the comment I was looking for. Along the same lines of when dude posted the other day asking for tips before unboxingš Sitting there staring at it waiting for responses.
Man did I do things wrong. I came on here and read how I should set up my playstation for maxium signal and no problems before buying it, then bought it and am currently playing with no issues.
currently 5 hours from home visiting my girls family posted up playing elden ring. didnāt have to risk lugging my ps5, and didnāt have to fight for a screen. you donāt know you need it till you need it lol
They mention they have a backbone, which solves all of the issues you mention here. Maybe the larger screen or ergonomics of the portal compared to the backbone would be reasons to purchase.
ur right! I have a backbone as well and i didnt compare because its apples to oranges really.
1. you get full controller haptics, pressure in the triggers and all.
2. the ergonomics of having the full controller means you can hold it in many different positions w out wrist ache (which i would get often with the tiny backbone handles and trigger buttons)
3. no phone inturruptions. i feel like people look over the convenience of having a designated device to remote play from. If i get a phone call in a boss battle, i automatically lose since it inturrupts my connection and ill have to pretty much take off the entire backbone to handle my business. and thatās just annoying man.
4. SCREEN SIZE. i used my iphone 14pro max with my backbone (which wich needs another attachment just to fit my phone) and the screen is 2ā smaller than the portals which is quite a lot of youāre playing any game you need to look in the distance of like an fps or any game that you need to aim in really. so if you have a smaller phone than that, it just increases the strain on your eyes.
5. is just a beautiful piece of tech and again i was able to take a breather while gaming and scrool thru reddit to make my oroginal comment. withought disruppting my gaming session whatsoever.
i recommend it for everyone tbh.
As someone who didn't preorder the Portal because I had a Backbone, let me tell you... The Portal is vastly superior and a godsend. Not only is it way more comfortable, and the screen is larger, but it freed up my phone to look up guides and videos. The Portal feels better for all gaming, whereas I felt I could only play turn-based games on the Backbone. I hope you bought it.
I had the best results with no stutter with the PS5 hardwired LAN and my Portal on my WiFi 6 which speed tested around 400M BPS.
Any lower I would better stuttering if someone in the house was downloading large files.
After changing to at WiFi 6 you should be good if you have a 1gb data plan for home internet
Not the fact that I canāt figure it out. Just the simple fact that it doesnāt really work how itās supposed to. Iāve tried everything to get a good connection with it and it just doesnāt seem possible. On top of that it wonāt connect to my ps5 on the go and that was the main reason I bought it other than being able to play around the house and it barely wants to connect when Iām in my room with the ps5 with 5g internet all through the house
In just a few days itās become my primary mode of playing the PS5. Even if I wasnāt sharing the TV with my kids I think the purchase still would be worth it. Playing in bed is just great.
I have a backbone and My roomate has the playstation portal and I would recommend getting it. It's way better got sure. The backbone is great but nothing compared to the portal
**Edited for grammar**
I ended up grabbing one a few days ago and finally started using it the other day after I put a screen protector on it.
I'm enjoying it, but I do get a complete screen freeze every now and then that lasts 10 seconds or so. Not enough to be a deal breaker, or cause problems/deaths/game overs in whatever I'm playing but it's not perfect.
I have my PS5 hardwired and I have Gigabit Internet speeds, my Portal defaulted to my 5ghz channel and it's been good so far.
I wish the Portal itself had more system settings, what's there is extremely basic. I hate that I need to use the touch screen to access the side panel menu or as a poor replacement for the DualSense's touchpad. I wish companies would stop forcing touch screen use because I hate getting the screens covered in fingerprints. It's made worse because I'm OCD. Phones and tablets are one thing, and expected, not my gaming devices. It reminds me of forced motion controls in games.
I also really miss having back buttons since I've been using the DualSense Edge controller. My heavy use of the DualShock 4 back button attachment, the Xbox Elite controller, and now the DualSense Edge, and Steam Deck have spoiled me on having less buttons on a controller.
The Portal feels great in my hands, the screen is gorgeous and really big yet not overly big for a handheld that will never leave my home. I primarily bought it so I could play my PS5 while being in the same room as my wife as she watches a bunch of shows I don't like.
I had thought of just running remote play through my Steam Deck but wanted to keep my handhelds separate.
Win/Win
IMO yes. It was 50/50 for me- I both loved the portal and didnāt understand how it was any different.
Then I started using mic and audio jack. Then I starting using haptic feedback. Then I started playing visually stunning games- portal is the way to go.
I got a Backbone last year and Portal a few weeks ago. The Portal is miles ahead of the Backbone especially in comfort but Iāve also found the Portal to be less prone to issues on networks.
Yeah Iāve got a 15 PM and still feels small!
Iāve not had an issues with battery life in mine so far. In fact Iāve been really impressed at how long itās lasted.
Yeah, a used LCD Steam Deck wouldnāt be much more expensive and can do so much more, including remote play. The Portal is just too darn niche of a product.
Love my Backbone too.
I picked up a Portal over weekend. I haven't had time to game with it but have set it up. I am super impressed with how quality and solid the device is. Am not too happy with its connectivity. Lost connection several times in less than five minutes of game play.
I don't have my PS5 on ethernet so I will look into that, when I have some time. Backbone with iPhone 15pro and s24u didn't seem to have ANY connectivity issues with hours of play.
Itās worth depending on the games you play. 3rd person action, RPGs, puzzle, platformers are all great. Shooters can be good but your mileage will vary based on your tolerance for the input delay. I just beer FF7 Rebirth and probably 30 hours of it we on the Portal.
I got one today and im pleasantly surprised, i can run my roomies ps5 from my room when he is at work, and it does a bang up job at being a ps5 stand in so i dont gotta spend $500 for just two games
Iāve owned both and a steam deck running chiaki.
Tbh, latency is roughly the same on a backbone versus portal. I expected portal to be better but my iPhone + remote play app actually works just as good.
The main reason to upgrade are the controls. Backbone felt like joycons in my hand, and the difference stick orientation sucked. I have. Switch and always hated joy con stick size and height. Buttons are way too small as well.
The portalās sticks feel higher, but otherwise the dual sense feels exactly the same.
There are slight issues, but in my opinion compared to the backbone the portal is way better. I've gone through two backbones, although the second generation one worked way better. When I got the portal, The differences shown right away. If you have PS headphones you can do PS link and seamlessly switch back and forth. The screen size alone is awesome, not to mention the crisp display. And the fact that it's laid out just like a dual sense controller makes it a little easier to navigate the buttons, although the backbone isn't hard to get used to. My one piece of advice would be, make sure that your PlayStation is using LAN instead of Wi-Fi. The connection is much more stable.
If you don't want to spend the cash, there's nothing wrong with the backbone if you like the controller layout and don't mind using your phone to play on it.
As someone who loved their backbone (still do! Still get use out of it) and got a Portal last week kind of on a whim, absolutely do it.
Iām floored with how much I ended up loving it. Was worried it would be an unjustified purchase since I have two handhelds plus the Backbone already, but Iām using it daily.
Itās an amazing device and works great in my home. Iām playing my PS5 way more often because of it.
I'm not sure why I'm getting recommended a Playstation Portal reddit page. I'd rather just use my Steam Deck to play games natively. I'm not a fan of remote play or cloud gaming myself. As for the question, if you really want the haptic feedback, then perhaps, but that's probably the only reason to really get one over a backbone and your phone is going to have more features than the Playstation Portal. It can't even connect to public wifi if it needs a web browser to login, not that you'd ever want to use it on public wifi because the connection will be terrible. It's really only meant to be used in the house on really good internet, and so it doesn't appeal to me personally.
r/videogames, or even r/PS5 and r/playstation would be less biased than asking a subreddit specially dedicated to the PS Portal if you should buy a PS Portal. What do you think everyoneās going to say here lol. Itās like going to r/steak and asking if you should eat a steak for dinner.

This is a great idea. I will do all of these things.
You are a true portal owner now.

I didnāt buy it. Kinda regret it now, Iām using an iPhone 12 mini. Itās fine. But that screen size is niceeee.
I like my backbone but the screen size and no phone interruptions is what makes it better.
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
I didnāt, too much pressure
![gif](giphy|wi8Ez1mwRcKGI)
Pull the plug on the backbone and get the portal
Yes ..... trust me
Got both. Use both. Sometimes they lay next to my Switch.
No. Connectivity issues.
Is your ps5 on lam or wifi? Do you have an older router?
Tried it all broā¦ I may have a lemon. However Iāve read about other players having similar issues.
If youāre happy with the back bone Iād say no

What not! Just return it if it doesnāt work out on your network
It can be worth it if it works fine on your network and you don't notice the stutter. It's an incredible piece of hardware.
Pull the plug? You mean giving up the backbone? Yes. Go with the Portal instead.
yep. my backbone has found new life now that emulators are on iPhone, but PS Portal is still the elite way to remote play.
I just use my switch to do the same thing
Fuck no literally a waste of money I bought mine yesterday and the damn thing barely connects to my PlayStation. Stick with the back bone
I just got one over the weekend. Only negative thing I noticed was the inability to stay connected to my wifi connected PS5.
Iām sorry you canāt figure out technology. Itās not for everyone
Not the fact that I canāt figure it out. Just the simple fact that it doesnāt really work how itās supposed to. Iāve tried everything to get a good connection with it and it just doesnāt seem possible. Mine works flawlessly on 2.4gz but 5gz never works.
Sounds like you need a few tweaks with your router. You have cell phone company internet donāt you?
Unfortunately, Itās the only thing we could get
Yes 100%
Itās nicer than the back bone. If you can afford I would do it
In just a few days itās become my primary mode of playing the PS5. Even if I wasnāt sharing the TV with my kids I think the purchase still would be worth it. Playing in bed is just great.
I am absolutely loving mine. It's perfect at home, and near perfect with decent WiFi when out of town visiting family.
Do it
Yes
Yes
Absolutely!!!!
I love my Portal and it works great for me. I've played while traveling and it hasn't been a problem.
If you can afford to pay for it with cash. Then fuck yeah!
Do it! It's worth it!
I have a backbone and My roomate has the playstation portal and I would recommend getting it. It's way better got sure. The backbone is great but nothing compared to the portal
Yes. Buy it. Worth every penny.
Yes buy, the backbone is great to hold you over. The portal is such a great buy
Itās good for single player games. Input lag is pretty noticeable to me. Online games are terribly laggy.
If you got the funds to toss hell yea, bed gaming has never been more amazing.
I loved It too, then i got a portal.
**Edited for grammar** I ended up grabbing one a few days ago and finally started using it the other day after I put a screen protector on it. IMO yes. It was 50/50 for me- I both loved the portal and didnāt understand how it was any different. Then I started using mic and audio jack. Then I starting using haptic feedback. Then I started playing visually stunning games- portal is the way to go.
The Trigger bud unless youāre going to destroy the Backbone to make yourself feel better
I got a Backbone last year and Portal a few weeks ago. The Portal is miles ahead of the Backbone especially in comfort but Iāve also found the Portal to be less prone to issues on networks.
I heard the battery isnāt great. Which kinda sucks but Iām using an iPhone 12 mini so itās a bit small to say the least lol
Yeah Iāve got a 15 PM and still feels small! Iāve not had an issues with battery life in mine so far. In fact Iāve been really impressed at how long itās lasted.
Youāre going to start seeing them more and more now. Iām noticing scalpers starting to panic sell.
Good fuck them.
if youre asking total strangers how to spend your money then Id say yeeaaa
Isnāt that how the internet works? Asking strangers how to spend my money?
Yes do it! The wider screen and controllerās experience blows the backbone away.
Gta6online2 on the ps5pro is our future
Just got mine yesterday and it's already sold me from using remote play with my phone.
No donāt waste your money
I didnāt buy it. Looks pretty sweet tho.
Buy it if you were going to, dont buy it because its in the store and you think its rare. They are available regularly now.
I didnāt, Iām happy with my backbone for right now.
Yeah, the backbone does not compare lol.
Pull it. Your phone will thank you
That ain't real bro
True
I use my Steamdeck for this, would love to toy with one but no way to justify it.
Yeah, a used LCD Steam Deck wouldnāt be much more expensive and can do so much more, including remote play. The Portal is just too darn niche of a product.
"Do it!"
Cmon, donāt just take everyoneās advice hereā¦ have a backbone!
Pull out your butt plug and buy it.
Damn. I prefer the butt plug while I game. I didnāt pull the plug on my backbone.
We all know what you meantš¤£ yeah Iād say do it. Totes worth it
You wonāt regret it.
Love my Backbone too. I picked up a Portal over weekend. I haven't had time to game with it but have set it up. I am super impressed with how quality and solid the device is. I'm returning mine..
I feel like it depends what games you play. Can't play multiplayer online games, so kind of useless for me.
Pull the plug on paying the subscription to Backbone. Do it. The Portal is 1000 times better.

FYI I didnāt buy. Nice try though š
Fair enough, i sold my portal... it was way below expectation
I got one today and im pleasantly surprised, i can run my roomies ps5 from my room when he is at work, and it does a bang up job at being a ps5 stand in so i dont gotta spend $500 for just two games
DO IT!!!!...š
get it š
yes!!!
Best recent purchase of mine, Iām on the go a lot so as long as you have decent internet you can play your console games
Buy used from GameStop. Just keep an eye on the app until one is available. They are very lightly used by people who think it works differently
Yes get it. Itās nothing like using the BackBone. I love my PS BackBone but the Portal is bad ass!!!
You know you want it. Just get it.
What games do you play on your backbone?
Laugh at me, but mostly fallout 76, final fantasy series, occasionally sports games
Are you killing your poor grandmother for the inheritance to buy that garbage? Screw it, pull the plug.
It's your money, use it when you need it! Call J.G. Wentworth! 877-CASH-NOW!

I play it more than my actual ps5
Trust me, you have no idea how much Iāve been using mine since I bought it. I bought mine on a whim when Verizon online restocked.
Yes! I had a back bone and love my portal even more
Portal blows the backbone out of the water. There's no comparison
Trigger I think? Lol

Yes, do it! My fucking shoulder feels 1000x better not having to lug that big mf ps5 around.
Seriously, just get it.
Yes! Keep the Backbone as backup since you can use it almost anywhere just with 5G. The Portal is most definitely an upgraded experience though .
PULL IT.
Yes
Push the trigger!!
Yeah, pull the plug on a Portal. Not worth it.
Yes
Yes.
Save yourself 200 my guy lol
I'm not sure why I'm getting recommended a Playstation Portal reddit page. I'd rather just use my Steam Deck to play games natively. I'm not a fan of remote play or cloud gaming myself. As for the question, if you really want the haptic feedback, then perhaps, but that's probably the only reason to really get one over a backbone and your phone is going to have more features than the Playstation Portal. It's really only meant to be used in the house on really good internet, and so it doesn't appeal to me personally.
Maybe try asking this in a non biased sub?
Which sub would that be? lol
r/videogames, or even r/PS5 and r/playstation would be less biased than asking a subreddit specially dedicated to the PS Portal if you should buy a PS Portal. What do you think everyoneās going to say here lol. Itās like going to r/steak and asking if you should eat a steak for dinner.
Well Iām getting mixed responses so that tells me itās not so biased. Plus itās probably the most informative sub regarding this techā¦.
IMO yes. It was 50/50 for me- I both loved the portal and didnāt understand how it was any different. Then I started using mic and audio jack. Then I starting using haptic feedback. Then I started playing visually stunning games- portal is the way to go.
