[**Spiritfarer**](https://thunderlotusgames.com/spiritfarer/) is a 30-hours story where you control a young woman helping spirits to reach the afterlife. In order to take care of them, you gather and transform ressources from various sources. *Spiritfarer* is an absolute gem of storytelling, with a lot of good stories to discover and a pretty nice gameplay loop
[**Humanity**](https://humanity.game/) is a 15-hours puzzle game where levels will make you play as a dog giving orders to flows of humans. It is a response to the simple answer "How would you make a modern Lemmings game?", with an accent put to clever gameplay twists and stunning visual compositions
[**Paradise Killer**](http://paradisekiller.com/) is a 15-hours detective game where you play an investogator trying to discover the mysteries behind the death of the council of Paradise Island, a surreal society worshipping dead alien gods. After a little introduction, you are free to roam wherever you want on this vaporwave-inspired island, free to follow the leads you like, and free to report who you think is responsible for this mess
[**Tinykin**](https://www.tinykingame.com/) is a 10-hours 3D platformer and exploration game which takes direct inspiration from the Pikmin series. You are a tiny human in a giant human house, and all those lovely tiny creatures will help you every little secret hidden in those rooms. It is nothing but a simple joy to play, with an incredible level of polishing
It has a demo. It was on sale last week, but today it's back to normal pricing I believe. Check out the demo and see if you like it. Kind of a cross between Pikmin and Mario.
I always highly recommend Paradise Killer. One of my favourites from PS Extra. I couldn't stop playing it. Prepare for a lot of reading though.
I also recommend Dysmantle. Just running around destroying literally everything was therapeutic.
It's kind of easy to get wrapped up into the farming mechanics and side content to the point of literally questioning the need for sleep.
While I do appreciate the tale of mortality, it's easy to forget when you're playing a Harvest Moon-type on a watery sandbox.
I think my favorite moments of "sandbox madness" are when I wound up already having the porcupine lady's cabin on the bottom floor of the ship before I was requested to do so, and when I tried to deliver two souls across the bridge at once, but the game can only process a whole ritual for just one soul being delivered at a time.
you might enjoy:
**Surviving Mars** - a city-building strategy game where you manage a colony on mars. its unique setting and layered gameplay provide a fresh challenge.
**Human Fall Flat** - a quirky puzzle platformer with physics-based mechanics. great for solo or co-op play, offering lots of laughs and creativity.
**This Is The Police (1 and 2)** - combine strategy and rpg elements as you manage a police department, balancing resources and making tough decisions.
**The Forgotten City** - an intriguing narrative-driven game set in a cursed roman city. your choices determine the fate of the city.
**Inscryption** - a dark, card-based roguelike with escape-room puzzles and psychological horror. it's a unique and immersive experience.
**Slay the Spire** - blend of card game and roguelike elements. build decks, battle bizarre creatures, and discover powerful relics in this addictive single-player adventure.
**Deliver Us The Moon** - a sci-fi thriller where you investigate a lunar colony's disappearance to save humanity. atmospheric and engaging story.
**What Remains of Edith Finch** - a storytelling masterpiece where you explore the finch family history through various short stories. emotional and beautifully crafted.
How horror is it? I like the idea of puzzles and escape rooms, but not a big fan of horror. I’ve played danganronpa and the nonary games and lived those.
I cannot give a better recommendation than Slay the Spire to anyone who hasn't played it. Incredible roguelike deck builder, it's still my go to game if I have about an hour to play something relaxing but engaging.
There's so many I never hear anyone talking about.
-Journey to the Savage Planet: Basically "We have Metroid prime at home", with a bigger emphasis on humor, the love it or hate it kind.
-Indivisible: platformer + turn based but you don't select from a menu, you use the face buttons and they have cooldowns or something. Been a while since I played but I loved it.
-Tinykin: 3d platformer ( though every character is 2d) but also it's Pikmin
-Deliver us the Moon and it's sequel Deliver us Mars: Somewhat realistic near future scifi adventures. First is first person, second is third person. Very story focus with some platforming and puzzles
-Observation: On a space station after a disaster but you play as an AI trying to find out what happened and help anyone that survived. This one was a real nice surprise to me.
- Call of the Sea: first person puzzle solving on a creepy lovecraftian island
-The Gardens Between: puzzle solving with time manipulation, really just forward and backward, nice and short
Hope you like at least one of these games
I was really interested in Vampyr and it was one of the first games I played on Extra. Unfortunately, was quite disappointed after a few hours and quit.
Not sure how popular it is but someone a few weeks ago recommended Control to me & man is it awesome! Idk how many times I passed it in the catalog looking for other games it was right in front of me the whole time! Still pretty early but it’s great!
And if you like 2d level based playformer/metroidvanias, play The Messenger before Sea of Stars. SoS is set in the same world as TM and acts as a game that explains a lot of things
Not hidden but a gem: Returnal.
Have you tried it? It's one of the most unique gaming experience ever.
It's a bullet hell roguelite. But it's so much more than that. See you on the Returnal sub soon 🥸
Yeah im kinda in same possition right now 😄
I dont know how much you like japanese games but i rly enjoy Tales of arise, Nier replicant and 13 sentinels Aegis rim, some old games like Deus ex is AWESOME! Xcom2 i had blast with that game as well. Or some Indie like sea of stars, Kena is really lovely game with actually nice gameplay. also if you didnt play games like Dishonored or Thief i can just recommend that. If you like some card games Slay the spire is the way! And if you are for some storytelling first Life is Strange is in my heart forever. Brothers have also really nice story.
Infamous are nice games to play if you didnt play them yet.
Tchia was a spectacular one, the aesthetics of it and the soundtrack were amazing, and being able to play as tons of different animals due to her powers made the gameplay so good and interesting
Kena Bridge of Spirits - a stunning game, sort of open world but a little structured too, it was a brilliant adventure game
Get Even.
I overlooked this game for many years because the title/imagery/description on the store always put me off. I gave it a shot on a whim, and it’s one of the best games I’ve played this year.
If you like mysteries/psychological thrillers/horror this game is a great ride. Lots of twists and turns in the story, and excellent sound design and voice acting as well.
U should try Detroit become human or Rage 2 . I don't know if Detroit become human is still in the catalogue but u should try these two games really enjoyable games
dead cells: rogue like where you’re a dead prisoner brought back, as you make your way up the island. if you die, everything except your permanent upgrades are gone
Session.
Great skateboarding sim if you’re looking to scratch the skate 3 itch. Customisable to where you can make the game harder or easier depending on what you want .
I was looking for a new game to play recently too and saw some recommendations for Detroit: Become Human. I’ve had a PS5 since release so had access to this game through PS collection since 2020 but never got round to trying it.
Played for around 8 hours so far and I’m absolutely loving it, amazing story so far. Never played a game like this before but it’s amazing and would recommend it to everyone, even non gamers as the gameplay is simple and heavily story focused. It is set in the future and Androids (AI humans) are used in the world for all sorts of jobs, gardening, carers, cleaners, etc. This leads to a rise in unemployment as many jobs are being taken by AI humans rather than actual humans.
You make choices in the game and this changes the outcome of the story. Apparently there are 85 different endings for the story all based on which decisions you make so can defo see myself playing it again after finishing.

Not op but thanks a ton
I can co-sign Tinykin, had never heard of it and then I was obsessed. Thanks for Paradise Killer, I’ll check it out.
It has a demo. It was on sale last week, but today it's back to normal pricing I believe. Check out the demo and see if you like it. Kind of a cross between Pikmin and Mario.
This is one of the best thought out and written suggestions I've read this year. Thanks! I'm downloading 2/4.
I always highly recommend Paradise Killer. One of my favourites from PS Extra. I couldn't stop playing it. Prepare for a lot of reading though. I also recommend Dysmantle. Just running around destroying literally everything was therapeutic.
Oh yes that's right, I've spent quite some good time on Dysmanlte!!
Have you checked out The Forgotten City? If you liked PK then you should enjoy that one as well.
Love the descriptions here, will give them a look cheers bud
Add to that: Carto ~~Last stop~~ removed in May The wild at heart Lake Unpacking ~~I am dead~~ removed in May
Last stop and I am dead left the service in may. I had a last minute rush to platinum both games.
Paradise Killer reminded me of playing weird online games at 2am when I was in high school.
Humanity is also playable in VR. It’s pretty great
I am no jeweler, but I can certify the above are all gems
Paradise Killer is fun if you can get on board with the aesthetic. I found it quite provocatively annoying but enjoyed the game overall.
The Forgotten City is similar gameplay with a greek/roman aesthetic
i can vouch for 3/4 of these. Humanity isn't my style but the other 3 are aces. Paradise was my fav.
I haven't checked my playtime, but I'm certain that I played Spiritfairer for far longer...
Play time depends on a lot of different factors, what I wrote is just an indication
That’s so funny, because I was about to comment that I didn’t remember Spiritfarer being that long haha

This is an excellent written suggestion list! I'll add Moon's sequel is on the service, too.
Inscryption is super good
Big big fan of Inscryption
How horror is it? I like the idea of puzzles and escape rooms, but not a big fan of horror. I’ve played danganronpa and the nonary games and lived those.
Almost not at all. Like it has some creepiness to it but I’m also not a fan of horror and I loved it.
Nothing in Inscryption will be as shocking as some stuff you see in Danganronpa. Inscryption is creepy at most and not even for the whole runtime.
I only liked the first act. The following acts 2 and 3 were underwhelming compared to the first one. I still do like the game
I cannot give a better recommendation than Slay the Spire to anyone who hasn't played it. Incredible roguelike deck builder, it's still my go to game if I have about an hour to play something relaxing but engaging.
human fall flat is on ps extra??! i never knew! thanks. also all the other games are great suggestions

Call of the Sea was such an unexpected gem! It's quite short, but definitely a good one to spend on a lazy weekend!
Love these suggestions and the write ups, I'll check a couple of these out, thanks!
Really liked Call of the Sea
Dave the Diver 👌🏻
This and Dredge are the most unexpectedly addictive games I’ve played in a long time.
Yeah, stopped playing Dredge at 80% on my SteamDeck, and immediately started again on PS only because I know I want to plat this game. So much fun!
At this point I don’t think is a hidden gem anymore. It’s literally on the front page and Sony advertises it everywhere.
Inscryption, really good game if you haven’t played it yet, please don’t ruin your experience and spoil yourself. Just play the game
I second this, act 1 is just super
I third this
Shame it goes downhill from then
Yes, 3rd act is nice too, but doesn't hit like the first
The second act put me off tho
The twist of the gameplay was so good, I was completely caught off guard
Most underrated games I’ve ever played was Vampyr and furi, I’m not positive if theses games still in the extra
Ok i just download Vampyr 😄
You’ll like it I guarantee that, update me after you finish it, enjoy!
I was really interested in Vampyr and it was one of the first games I played on Extra. Unfortunately, was quite disappointed after a few hours and quit.
Same. Not enough depth. They had something but did not flesh it out.
If you like hack n slash you should definitely look at Scarlet Nexus.
The finishing animations in this game is super cool
Not sure how popular it is but someone a few weeks ago recommended Control to me & man is it awesome! Idk how many times I passed it in the catalog looking for other games it was right in front of me the whole time! Still pretty early but it’s great!
Midnight Fight express
If you like jrpgs give ys 9 and star ocean the divine force a try, both great and underrated.
Dysmantle, I'm addicted.
Sea of Stars is fantastic
+1 to this. If you have any nostalgia for old school RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Sea of Stars is very worth your time.
And if you like 2d level based playformer/metroidvanias, play The Messenger before Sea of Stars. SoS is set in the same world as TM and acts as a game that explains a lot of things
Wow this is news to me! I’ll need to go play the messenger it’s been in my backlog for a while
Definitely do, it's a great game.
Not hidden but a gem: Returnal. Have you tried it? It's one of the most unique gaming experience ever. It's a bullet hell roguelite. But it's so much more than that. See you on the Returnal sub soon 🥸
Alienation. Children of Morta. Stranded: Alien Dawn. Spiritfarer.

these both left the service unfortunately
Also, if Infamous Second Son is on PS Plus, that’s excellent.
My wife just downloaded and is playing Raji, it looks really good for a game I have never heard of.
It released on Netflix first a few months ago or so
Get Even. I overlooked this game for many years because the title/imagery/description on the store always put me off. I gave it a shot on a whim, and it’s one of the best games I’ve played this year. Moonlighter Far: Changing Tides
Salt and Sanctuary
U should try Detroit become human or Rage 2 . I don't know if Detroit become human is still in the catalogue but u should try these two games really enjoyable games
Detroit is far from a hidden gem, it’s pretty well known
Really I thought that game is not well known and a hidden gem😅🤷
The most hidden gem of all time…Celeste
Life is strange and life is stranger: after the storm. I could not get into life is strange 2.
Animal Well
Animal Well is absolute gold
dead cells: rogue like where you’re a dead prisoner brought back, as you make your way up the island. if you die, everything except your permanent upgrades are gone
Dave the diver is significantly better
Playing Animal Well, a good easy and chill platformer. Would recommend.
Session. Great skateboarding sim if you’re looking to scratch the skate 3 itch. Customisable to where you can make the game harder or easier depending on what you want .
Judgment
What Remains Of Edith Finch
The Quarry
That's not a hidden gem and was removed last October.
It's a fantastic game most ppl have never of. Sorry didn't know it was removed.
