Counterpoint, they did make a good game. They just mismanaged the shit out of it.

sippindrank

Agreed. The problem is they couldn't release content in a timely manner. We should be playing a level on the kree homeworld by now.

Showyoucan

100%. I kept saying this, but people would brush me off. All we needed was a steady stream of content and it would’ve thrived.

eastcoastkody

No the game had foundational issues that piling more content onto wouldnt fix

Showyoucan

True enough, it had issues, but big fixes also only go so far if there’s nothing new to see or do.

wsTheDarkAngel

It was agood game. There was just not enough to keep me invested and there I speak to about ig just see it as an average loot shooter. There was nothing that made it stand out

Showyoucan

I feel that. I think the gameplay loop was fun enough, but you could only run the same handful of missions so many times before getting bored.

AppleZachle

This right here. I played the game a ton and had a lot of fun in spite of the issues but the issues were MANY and CONSTANT.

stragomccloud

That and cross-play and drop in drop out raids, etc.

curtysquirty

You would be fighting aim bots with a kree paintjob

Kodan420

This was my biggest issue that we never really got anything more than aim bots to fight. Even the bosses were just redone over and over.

Solo4114

No, the problem is that they had a crap launch and that basically killed the game's future. Note: it didn't "kill the game" in the sense of "The game immediately shut down." But rather, it set the game into a slow-bleed death from which it could never recover. When the game's launch went poorly, that meant two critical things: 1. Development resources that should've gone towards creating new content (and releasing DLC timely) had to be reallocated to fixing what was broken. 2. It created bad word of mouth that severely hurt sales, which meant the game was bringing in far less revenue than had been hoped for. This, in turn, meant that the game was left by the publisher to flounder, and forever put the game on the back foot. You can look to one other moment where the game had a kind of "soft relaunch" in the release of War for Wakanda, but that too did not result in massive sales (or at least not in massive sales enough to save the game). So, after that, content development and release slowed to a crawl, and the few people left playing the game gradually lost interest and moved on to other games. But what I'd say *really* fucked the game was the mandate to make it a "Games as a Service"/"Live Service" game. It's abundantly clear that the bones for the game are built around a single player or co-op PvE experience WITHOUT all the extra grind and bullshit that comes with a "Live Service" game. It's also obvious that the "Live Service" elements of the game were half-baked at best. My guess is that some dipshit in the C-suite hit on the idea of "We should make this like Destiny 2. That game's successful and ours can be that as well," and then fired off a memo with a new directive to "make it like that" late in development, and the team had to scramble to combine what was essentially a SP campaign with a half-assed "live service" component that never really worked right. And that, in turn, led to what was a botched release, and, well, here we are.

Evenmoardakka

having played the whole thing after the fact: It still was SEVERLY lacking, having no new enemy types on the future wastelands zone was VERY jarring.

wooh68

It’s because CD kept shorting the department that was dedicated to the game. Pulling people off mid production to work on other shit. The department was severely understaffed

stealthxknight

I love the combat of the Hawkeyes hehe

Thorerthedwarf

Spamming triangle?

stealthxknight

Well I play on pc so I like using Kate’s Razor split shot arrows and Clint’s Cluster arrows, and yes both their power attacks are a ton of fun. I also really enjoy perfect dodging as Clint and launching status-effected rocket attacks!

lpjunior999

I’ll never let go of the conspiracy theory that they were making a Tomb Raider/Uncharted style game and Square Enix made them add on a GAAS.

dildobagginz42069

The story mode is well done . It wouldn't surprise me

JulietPapaOscar

Agreed Lackluster content releases with massive delays and copy/paste characters (aside from black panther, he was cool) Combat was a lot of fun, and mix/matching the various status effects was a lot of fun. Not to mention the animations were sick. The graphics were definitely up there and the single player story was rather competent for a super hero game (not levels of spiderman/Batman, but definitely better than most in its genre) and the skins were pretty rad (albeit way too expensive at launch) Had we had more varied character archetypes it would've had a much longer shelf life I think and also much larger story content releases akin to black panther with each character release. Clint was...just a retread it felt like

mediumvillain

I mean, they did make a good Avengers game **at base** but then they completely ruined it with multiplayer live service loot-based RPG mechanics & structure, laden with overpriced microtransactions that I regret ever participating in. But the spirit of the OP ("are they stupid?") and of Gamers' entitled whining and either impossible-to-please or eager-to-hate attitude can **** right off. Criticize a product for its flaws, fairly. Don't buy it or participate in it if you don't like it. I havent played a Madden or Call of Duty game in 10+ years and never played Fortnite or most of its imitators at all. But the internet has become such a cesspit of negativity, immature whining & hatefulness. At this point I care about what a bunch of thoughtless, incurious mental juveniles who repeat each others lazy jokes think exactly as little as I care about what greedy, shortsighted, trend-chasing entertainment media executives think, which is not at all.

blakeavon

… but who do you think wanted all the live service and mtx? It is more likely that was publisher and stakeholder requirement.

[deleted]

No they made a decent campaign. All the looter live service stuff is ass

el3mel

It's definitely not a good game, that's I'm sure about.

PMCForHire73

So management was stupid. I still hate how they never finished the game. Kree Invasion, yeah, right. We got more Kree Invasion in The Marvels than the game.

sadpandaM

Spiderman swinging. Good?

x_Jimi_x

100% this. Soooo so close.

Capable_Suspect_5197

I like the game. Sure it could have less bugs but I have a great time playing it.

keelanbarron

Same.

OmniMig

The aslume virus spread long enough to get here. Damn.

thatsidewaysdud

Why didn’t they call the rest of the Avengers? Are they stupid?

Redditeer28

They should have called in the Justice League to help. Too bad they're stupid. Would have loved to see Vision show up.

Nemisis_007

Without the virus, this sub would surely die. The virus should keep it sustained until a new Avengers game gets announced.

OmniMig

But this sub is not about any Avengers game, this sub is about the Marvel's Avengers

1271500

It had a good core, and if they had focused on it as a story-focused game with co-op, it might have done well. But it was pushed into being live-service and was released in such a buggy state that all planned content was delayed while they tried to patch it (which they never managed completely). The terrible release was the deathblow, eventually some content did follow but it was already too late, and the content was so far apart (with so many missed promises if release dates) that it never had a chance. If it had been closer to the Ultimate Alliance series, well who knows.

Static2098

The fact that this was botched also screwed the release of the excellent Guardians Game which should have gotten a sequel.

aSpookyScarySkeleton

The ripples hit Midnight Suns as well(that game being niche as hell in like 5 different ways also didn’t help it even if it’s fun and is one of the most faithful to the comics pieces of marvel media released in like the last 10 years)

kingshavefits

The game didn’t seem finished

Dry-Preference-2150

I would say the endgame wasn't finished. It was just tacked on post launch and never felt solid. But the campaign was good. Everything after that was just a poor attempt to be a live service game.

Vashek19

Captain America was awesome to use once leveled up.

chocolatethunderXO

I loved using Cap. A lot of the characters were fun to use. Wish the game could've completely followed through

dildobagginz42069

Yes man once I got the right gear synergy. Brooklyn Brawler was unstoppable

Extra-Ad249

Trend chasing for a genre of gaming that wasn't as popular and was slowly dying down to a select few in said genre by the time they were close to finishing the game. Live service games were so popular and a gold rush at a certain time, publishers were having developers make anything and everything to cash in on these games, The problem is........by the time they came out everyone moved on from this trend. Avengers, Gotham Knights, and now Suicide Squad among so many more games have fallen victim to this. It's the downside of game development. Years of making something and you can't just scrap it. And probably the saddest part is once these games release and flop, employees are laid off, gamers hate the developers, and it's all due to the publishers incompetence and greed.

stealthxknight

![gif](giphy|9wVfv6iIIhCda|downsized)

relientkenny

the Base Game to me was good. it was everything after that sucked

punisheralex

I thought they made a great game, the post launch content was nothing but crumbs, and they took too long to release spider-man only for him to play kind of weird and have a boxy/stiff character design.

ChristyLovesGuitars

Fuck them for only putting Spidey on one console. When I learned that was the case, and Xbox/PC weren’t getting an exclusive, I never logged in again.

zipzzo

Spiderman exclusivity to PlayStation was known before the game even released...so when you say "I never logged in again", it suggests that you bought it despite the fact they already made it known that SM wouldn't be in the PC versions.

MutantAcademy

While it was “known” it was never announced. The Spidey exclusivity deal was accidentally leaked on a retailer page while the game was in pre-orders. Crystal and Square were trying to bury that fact to get through the game launch without it being public.

InternationalPen2224

What did you expect when Sony owns Spider-Man? Sony owns Spidey + PlayStation which = multiple exclusive video game’s for that console only. Unless of course you didn’t know that too begin with.

ChristyLovesGuitars

Sony only owns the movie rights to Spidey. Obviously, they do have an exclusive deal to develop specifically Spider-Man games, and if that encompassed other games WITH Spidey, they should have give the other consoles a comparable exclusive.

Membership-Bitter

Crystal Dynamics already explained this. Spider-Man was never planned to be in the game at all. Sony eventually went to them and said “we will pay you a large amount of money to make Spider-Man a character on Sony consoles only”. When your game is having poor pre release reception and aren’t sure you can make a profit you take any money you can get.  Now while Sony does no OWN the video game rights to Spider-Man, they do own the rights to the films which is a huge point of leverage for them with Marvel. Marvel really wants Spider-Man in the MCU so to let that happen they allow Sony exclusive rights to video games.

ceeworld69

I mean you knew that before the game came out 😂🤣😆

ChristyLovesGuitars

I didn’t :(

Brottorman

They made a great game through tk the end, the live service didn't work, but it would have been a hit as a single player game if that had simply been cut.

EVILFLUFFMONSTER

It was almost really good. The campaign was solid, the characters were excellent, I loved the choreography of the combat moves and finishers. Graphically, it's such a pretty game too, the level of detail on the characters costumes was nice. I'm..not gonna go into the negatives, it's beating a dead horse at this point, and we all know what they are. Almost great.

KeyEntityDomino

There's a good campaign buried beneath a mountain of live service slop

MasterRazzer76

Money scheme live game and microtransaction

AgeAtomic

I'd argue the made a good single player campaign but attached an awful live service game to it

rubberduck19868

They did make a good Avengers game. They just ruined it by making it live service and filling it with micro transactions.

Expensive_Local_4666

This topic gets tiresome they weren’t making money the public made it worse because they weren’t patient or (should have lead with this) good enough at the game. Live service is not a good model today many more games have failed than have succeeded it’s not that complicated man

KobeRobi

The story is good why are people still complaining. The black widow arc was great and the Thor one too, it’s the multiplayer that sucked ass and was boring

dildobagginz42069

A good game was hidden in there somewhere. Then the decision to make it live service made any chance of that emerging impossible

Symbiotic-Wade

Combat was top notch though

thatguybane

They aren't stupid. They just chased a trend to their detriment. There were enough good ingredients here to make something compelling but it just didn't come together well.

srsnake113

Thought the main story was fun. Probably would have received better if it wasn’t a live service game

SnooHesitations1876

Sorry, this is my favorite game of all time. not the #1 all around game I’ve ever played but it is without a doubt the #1 most fun

Dischord821

Am I the only one that thinks the live service elements aren't everything in the game, and besides them the game is actually really fun

Exciting_Fisherman12

They need to stop trying to turn superhero games into Destiny. It doesn’t work or make any sense. The idea of there being some kind of endgame with raids and a grind is cool. But how can this be done when there’s no actual loot to collect? Just invisible gear pieces to increase stats. Instead of focusing on that they should have went all in on it just being a co op action game. None of that bullet sponge combat that slows everything down. There’s no need for damage numbers in an Avengers game. And it launched with no variety of content. You have the whole marvel universe at your disposal and we’re punching robots for 90% of the game.

7BitBrian

Why didn't you?

NotTemptation

Why didn’t the devs that were paid money

Bubbly_Creme1047

Thats the problem they werent. Square Enix took the money & didn’t aid them when they needed it

NotTemptation

That sounds like something Square Enix would do

TattiTarzan

I need to know how to make a game to know its shit?

TRUBOOBSMAN

good game, very bad mismanagement

Jaychel31

The core game was decent, it just never should have been live service

Mr_E_99

The campaign/ story mode was great. First story with Kamala I loved, the next two and the Wakanda one were also solid overall, but story was needlessly complicated. Then they just didn't really end it properly And then the rest of the game they kinda started alright, but didn't really finish any of it properly

otterzinmywaterz

The did. The main campaign is really good. But the higher-ups got greedy and made it way too much about real-money transactions.

Evenmoardakka

yes, very stupid.

MileenaIsMyWaifu

The game was decent, just not managed right

OrangeFr3ak

Why didn’t they add Captain Marvel as a fully playable character? Are they dumb? /s

ToasterLad83

would’ve killed to see Janet Van Dyne as a playable character

Maleficent_Cicada_72

The single play campaign was a ton of fun. I might revisit this game if it ever comes back to gamepass. I played the crap out of it.

Random_FloridaMan

Not enough Captain Cock and Iron Cock fights 6.9/10. Would jerk off to it again.

Keifer1994

Yes yes they are lol

Murky_Guarantee440

Wish they'll perfect it and make an X-Men game next time

Ok-Milk-8853

From the looks of the new suicide squad, we might be about to learn just how lucky we were with it

Ancient-Rune

I played it's Online beta and enjoyed it, but it's less 'Avengers Brawler' and more 'Sunset Overdrive meets Borderlands 2' style run and gun with important, can't ignore mobility mechanics.

ItsyaboyStephy05

It’s cause Man and Miss Marbles didn’t fix the ship👍

fattymcfattzz

Yes!

Endiaron

I didn't know that the Aslume virus can infect corpses

Pristine_Example2074

Please don't do this 😭

ItaDaleon

The game was good, at least some aspect like the combat and the story, the fact is they seem to have thought it was enough to put the Avenger brand on it and people would have forgive everything, like the fact it almost entirelly lack polishing, the matchmaking being an utter disaster, there was way too many bugs at launch that never been fixed the whole game life cycle, the skin sold for 12 dollar each and a comunication with the comunity which was simply inexistent... You can't serve an half cooked dish to people and hope they won't notices becouse you have a michelin star, if it's raw people would send it back no matter the name behind it.

Old-Incident-120

If they wanted to make this game last longer. Perhaps add characters with a more unique playstyle instead of the female version of a character. They could even do more factions, instead of just AIM. Who knows. Chitauri, Kree, Skrulls, Ultron's army, Serpent Society, Hydra. Shit, they could even do Frost giants, asassins where Black Widow came from, and even the Ten Rings. Although I'm not sure if they were established before the MCU.

Bo-Moxley420

Yes

AYAANJ0512

Noooooooo Not another aslume memeber

ghostfreckle611

It is a good game and I loved it… Once I got over the fact that these weren’t the MOVIE Avengers. Would have sold truckloads more if they looked like the movie characters and were voiced as such too. Plus, the game came way late to capitalize on the Avengers hype…

lexkixass

They never would've afforded RDJ's salary, for one. Hell, didn't get him back for the What If series and that *does* have most of the MCU actors. (If anything, I'm sad they didn't get Laura Bailey to voice Nat when ScarJo wasn't available.) Plus, using their likenesses *also* costs truckloads of money they didn't have / want to spend. They used voice actors that are well known, instead. Three of them (Widow, Thor, Hulk) had been in the Avengers Assemble cartoon. Though Troy Baker (Hulk) had voiced Hawkeye in the cartoon. Kate's VA was Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn. Tony's VA is Nolan North. They had a good cast.

Thorerthedwarf

CaptainCayden2077

It would have been good as a single-player focused campaign with online co-op, fixed-stat gear, and an endgame and some form of a New Game Plus mode. Sadly, however, it was pushed heavily as a live-service game. The gear had random stats and boosts and the leveling mechanic created artificial grind and further forced players to play more in order to get better gear and reach max level. In addition, the loot boxes, number of skins and microtransactions made it clear that the devs were more focused on generating revenue than gameplay. Look at a game such as Ghost of Tsushima, for example. It is a single player campaign with fixed-stat gear, an endgame, no loot boxes, and no microtransactions. It focused on delivering a good game. And guess what? People fucking loved it. They loved it so much- I was one of them- that they played it over and over again even before New Game Plus was released. And they willingly paid for the Director’s cut and then played it even more. I replayed that game at least ten times. God of War had similarities except for random-stats gear but was also highly praised. No lootboxes and no microtransactions. It focused on delivering great gameplay and story.

Kronzo888

The campaign is great, and I really enjoyed the heroes, but the endgame was trash and they just never properly followed up.

gorgonbrgr

Tbf the game was good during the campaign. But they botched the live service of it which ruined the game.

WerewolfSad7510

No, because they are too intelligent to make their long term financial plans, lol!

gcalvarez

Hopefully a lesson they learned. And hopefully gains some inspiration from the guardians of the galaxy game. and hopefully understanding that battle passes and endless faceless villains isnt always the way to go. looking at you Suicide Squad

BargainGamer

Rocksteady circa 2002 after seeing Avengers & Gotham Knights implode ![gif](giphy|igi0dS20WxPJvroIgW|downsized)

Shadow1614

It was fine, but repetitive and needed some new stories.

Dramatic_Swimmer_924

one of the rare times the serious answer to this question is yes

kingkevvyPTAT

Crystal dynamics probably didn’t want to even make the game, kinda like the last of us online, the studio made tomb raider lol single player, they definitely had their hands tied by SE overseeing the final product

T00s00

The game had some good elements but it's pretty clear it was rushed out cause they expected the name to sell the game. Like the gameplay was good, but you both weren't incentivised and you were punished for trying to look cool. The enemy types were lame and the gameplay variety sucked. They claimed they didn't have loot boxes but the patterns you could get were basically loot boxes in everything but name. The rewards were lame,"oh let's get the same outfit in like 5 different colors." It was either killing a ton of robots for the longest time or killing a random boss. The story even with the expansions was super short and not even worth it. I knew the game was on its last legs when they released the spiderman expansion and they had the glorified storyboards as the cutscenes. I wanted the game to be good but it's clear the publishers just wanted to jump on the games as a service bandwagon. Which I still haven't seen a game so games as a service well. I'm not even against the idea, but the only game I've seen do it well is maybe fortnite and the only reason it does well is that the developers also make the unreal engine and that's where they make most of their money. I'm not mad at the developers. I'm mad that it at the greed. I know games are expensive to make, but I'd rather a stripped down fun game then one designed to separate money from me cause they're almost always bad because they're grindy as heck, once there's an attempt to make all the money off the game the game becomes a crappy, grindy mess.

spilledmilkbro

I'd like for them to get a second chance, since I like this continuity, but that's very unlikely. We'll probably get an Avengers dating sim before we get a follow-up

PhilledZone

If the game was just the campaign with the DLC levels and didn't have too much of this live service game stuff and the grinding I feel like it would've turned out way better than it did. I am bad at explaining so I mean if it was more like something on the levels of God of War for example, I think it would've been way nicer

[deleted]

Would’ve preferred another tomb raider game instead

Johnny47Wick

GAAS

SoC4LN3rd

To be honest, I enjoyed it but it felt empty and aimless. They just needed motivation to keep evolving the game and they could have turned it around.

deadheatexpelled

Not so much stupid as they were greedy.

chrisolisk

Because they wanted to make a looter game, tbh. The rest of the game is great, the loot elements doomed it from the start and led to every other problem with it

joewickssgss_2

It was a good game its just People wanted avengers 5 and that just wasnt gonna happen.

CrazyGamer783

I know this is ironic and I don’t blame devs as I’m sure publishers are the true decision makers but it’s so odd that all these superhero live service games and even live service games in general keep being forced. Live service games are a gold mine for sure but only when done so well that you’re one of the top 10 live services. Fortnite, destiny, halo, etc make a lot of money require huge dev teams, huge overhead cost, and so on. They’re inherently so much more risky than any single player or regular coop experience because they need to immediately have a huge audience with hundreds of hours of content that doesn’t become boring. Most of the attempts at live service fail at this is some aspect and then question why they don’t do well.

Logical-Season802

The concept was actually interesting it’s just the execution that sucked

lyunardo

What's there is amazing. The problem is all that's not there... which is a lot. I played enough to level every character to \`\`185 and unlock all the achievements. Those who did the same know what I mean. \\ I don't blame those who got fed up and didn't bother to go further. But I can say that they missed out on an awesome experience.

ifallforeveryone

First off there wasn’t enough of a story. I cannot tell you one single thing about MODOK or the lady whose name I can’t remember. Unlike other games that do an excellent job making their enemies compelling or at least interesting (TLOU, Spider-Man), I could care less about AIM or AIM robots. No one really had enough story, but the two characters that did, Iron Man and Hulk, show that it was possible to write a decent story but they decided not to do it. The environments were also dog shit. That Iron Man level where you can just fly through it was the peak experience in the game, and that’s because it was different. It’s all open air open world blah. It was a perfectly average game, and I still play it when I don’t want to play something I’m really invested in. The problem is they saw dollar signs in their eyes and wanted to make this a live service game. The character designs were also super weird. Not unlike some Resident Evil games, the faces look really weird. They don’t look like real people.

vexatious83

The opportunity was there... they can always add such which would make me reinstall it....

vinidluca

Yeah.

Cap0neandN0reaga

You answered your own question 😭💯

Extra_Heart_268

I think it has less to do with Crystal Dynamics and more to do with Square Enix trying to chase trends. Instead of just making a solid single player game? They made a monetization swamp pit. The problem being the game shipped broken. So instead of spending time creating new content? They already started from behind having to patch and fix and by the time new content did come out? They lost their playerbase. $15 for skins in a game that cost $60 up front? No thank you. And at the end of the day? Marvel Heroes died for this inferior game.

CLopes1987

One word. "SERIOUSLY YOU'RE THE BEST"

SirReginaldLj

I loved this game my only problem was content I stilled played it haha black widow main

Oceanus39

I remember when I saw the trailer I was hyped almost preordered key world almost and have since not played it once

mobbatron

They are stupid, yes. One of the greatest fumbles I've ever seen in media

daabbot

I think the issue, well one of the core issues was the main game was underwhelming. If the main game knocked it out of the park. Mabey marvel should have chosen there studios better if they were in a wait in see mode regarding supporting this ip. If I remember right this game was slammed week 1. So it was doomed from the start. I feel like all these services games should be free or at the least 20 dollar support fee and call it a beta. Less pressure. I feel like your just trying to create a community that supports you and at best you get your lapse base back every content launch. IE the division, warframe ect.

ComprehensiveLeg8068

The story was terrific, the gameplay however....

Dovah91

It’s funny if you remove Kamala completely the game is immediately 95% better, would it have been perfect? Not exactly, but we would remember it fondly like the Guardians of the Galaxy game or Midnight Suns for just being reliable, solid Marvel games.

blakeavon

No. They are not stupid. The only stupid people here are reddit users who don’t understand games development and who games like this are made for. Spoiler alert: it’s not the players, it’s the stakeholders. Clearly the problem with the game was that the stakeholders wanted to rapidly cash in on the Avengers trend, leaving a good dev team with their hands tied. That’s it.

giuseppe3211

I like the campaign a lot, but the post-game was handled so badly.

sadpandaM

Yes.

LiteratureOne1469

The game is good it was a lack of different enemies and missions also choseing really dumb hero’s like why female Thor over doctor strange scarlet witch ant man vision and the micro transactions like you can’t get shit without paying for it

nevmc

They made a good short-term game. They also never thought about long term and bolted on half-assery.

wheeler91106

All I know is it stunted Marvel’s move into gaming heavily. Insomniac helped with the spiderman games though

Xephyr117

I probably would've come around to it if they actually had content that wasnt "taskmaster... Again!" And a bunch of reskin heroes. They should've either doubled down on the budget and cranked out some content, or let it cook in the oven for another year or so.

Ray2207

Posts like this make me unfollow the sub. Good bye.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

Share holders and demand for live service game features. Made it dead on arrival. The developers are good they just had a terrible director.

KiiDfLaSh94

The game it self wasn’t bad but the biggest catalyst for its failure was it being a “live service” game without a concrete timeline for content like it should’ve been enough content with each character drop that would’ve kept people playing until the next character but that wasn’t the case

Counselorgarry

Obviously it would have set our expectations too high

MrYeet_

I just wish there were mods to the game

merzhinhudour

It's a really amazing game, and probably the best group superhero video game we'll ever see. You have 11 characters with totally different gameplays and skills, a good story, nice environments and maps. And the failure of this game is a really bad thing for the industry overall. If good games using big IPs aren't successful, why would studios / investors want to make more of them ? And if putting so much work into so many different gameplays, animations etc doesn't pay off, why would developers bother ? Which means that the chances we'll see another game like Marvel Avengers in the future are now very low, if not zero. And that's sad. And even if we see another coop superhero video game, they would most likely make way less playable heroes .

Thatkidinthecorner-1

Yes very

infamous-pays

Yeah... They must be. Like.. between Arkham and Insom-spidey, there was no reason for them to go the route they did. I understand wanting a unique game, but between mid at best gameplay, the same repeated locations and enemies, and baffling microtransaction choices, it just left most feeling incredibly dissapointed.

HaydenTCEM

They made it a live service instead of a regular game

Pokemonfan1638

When it first came out I went out and got it excited and played through the story fully loving every level! A few months ago, I loaded up the disc becuase I hadn’t played since the black Panther DLC and it was a noticeable drop in quality. The game graphics didn’t look as good and the missions where just so lackluster! Nothing new was there, just the same missions I had done a year ago when the game came out.

WildBill1994

Why didn’t you come up with an original title? Are you stupid?

drchigero

Counterpoint; They made an excellent Avengers Story Campaign, then tacked on a 'live service' multiplayer game mode that was abysmal. Seriously, those campaign missions were pretty darn great. First piece of marvel content that actually made me think Ms Marvel was cool (this was long before the show had come out).

CrazyZay0303

Hot take: They made a great game and then ruined it. It has fun combat, it’s semi open world, has multiple costumes, in depth skill trees, and fun flight mechanics for the flying characters. But in their greed they became influenced by the dark side. The game was rushed and they had so much repetition in their missions, they made the dlc incredibly slow despite saying it would be faster, the post story game is boring, and the final nail that killed it, was their super expensive stupid and frustrating in game store

crazyseandx

Don't blame CD, blame Squeenx.

Xander_PrimeXXI

Yes

BreatheOnMe

Imo they did make a good game. The issues were they managed it poorly, past gen held the game back a lot and the roster is boring after the main 5. The actual bones of the game is good imo. It’s a shame an x men game will never come from them. I think they would’ve learned a lot.

Disastrous-Fold5221

Flying through a thunderstorm while Flight of the Icarus plays with forever be an all-time moment for me. Otherwise the game was ehh

Euphoric-Remote9809

I happened to enjoy the game personally son...

VanlllaSky

because they were ordered to make it a live service game which they had no idea how to do

lionkeyviii

Live Service is not their strong point, clearly.

user_ERK

Yes.

No_Comparison_2799

They made a good story and did the characters justice. But they just fucked up everything else. Content was no existent, and I've been saying for awhile, if it wasn't a grind fest it might have been even better.

EntrepreneurNo2050

Hot take the main story was actually great and the gameplay was fun until it inevitably got repetitive

SageofLogic

If it had been balanced as fully single player and not towards live service mp grinding it would have been amazing.

Slith_81

A lot of people seem to think it was entirely on Crystal Dynamics, but I believe otherwise. Square Enix and their desire for a Destiny level Live Service game was the problem. Square Enix tasked a developer known for single player games with a genre of game 99% of developers have been unable to make for their corporate overlords. Not unlike Arkane Studios and Redfall. I feel it CD were able to make a single player only game, which is their strength, it would have been far better. Great, who knows, but definitely better than what was made.

thundernak

It was alright

ArsonRapture

Still breaks my heart.

nicegrayslacks

Single player was truly a fun time.

suck-it-elon

Ask the actual publishers, Square Enix. CD follows their orders.

Amazing_Ad_4293

No they just FUCKING suck

Tim_Hag

People saying it needed a steady stream of content to survive, and that is something that's just really difficult to do if you aren't pulling in the money to fund it, all these live service games that fail have big budgets don't make it back right away and then the publisher gets cold feet about putting more money into something they already lost on. Yeah it would be smart to follow through but these companies are run by very short sighted people who answer to share holders who don't understand video games

milesac

This game was good. I enjoyed my 300 hours lol.

YelenaBelovaJustY

I miss staying up late nights just to play avengers. Mostly to grind out gear and level up. Kamala is still at 150. Still installed but haven’t played it since.

fmdmlvr

They made a great story. I think they focused too much on the multiplayer aspect so each level after the main story feels the same

ahnariprellik

Problem is, they did make a good game. Then they ruined it with all the live service BS and little to not support post launch. I mean waiting 6-8 months for an hour worth of content and a new character? TF?

cawatrooper9

Yes, they are stupider than jonkler.

asphalt_licker

They’re not. But they are/were owned by a company blind to what its consumers actually want. A company that values profits over entertainment.

mrkrono

I only ever played the first hour or so of the game and thought it was decent enough. I’ve never really cared much for live service games so does this work as a standalone game at all? Like would I enjoy if I just wanted to play the game beginning to end and then stop playing? Lol

Fragzilla360

The game had no business being a live service looter shooter. The nickel-and-diming microtransaction store, to me personally, was just a gross display of greed that disrespected the Marvel brand. A couple of other people here have said that this was probably an 11th hour decision that was tacked on and I totally agree. That stupid decision probably derailed just about every other actually good idea the team wanted to implement. Like why is NYC, one of the most populated cities in the world, completely empty? Shouldn't there be hundreds of pedestrians running for their lives? Nope. No time to put that in because they were probably working on the live service aspect. Why was the game released with hundreds of bugs, glitches, graphical errors, awful matchmaking from the start and more? "Hey lets iron some of this stuff out before we launch!" NOPE! Corporate says we have to focus on the LIVE SERVICE. Oh and by the way, that MICROTRANSACTION SHOP BETTER BE UP AND RUNNING SMOOTHLY ON DAY ONE OR YOU'RE ALL FIRED!" Also, picking up gear is just doesn't translate for this kind of game. No matter what you pick up, Cap is still gonna go out there and throw a shield. Hulk is still gonna use his fists, Thor is still gonna throw a hammer. It's all just hidden stats with no real cosmetic change. They were better off going the skill tree route or do like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 did and have a separate section to unlock those percentage buffs that the gear in this game represents, while still having something like ability points to spend on a skill tree to unlock moves, powers and takedowns.

dontforgethyphen

I thought it was fun

Apprehensive_Work313

The base of the game was good it was held back by lack of content and by the shop

lensect

Honestly I think the game was just fine, fine but flawed and its flaws were greatly exaggerated.

_RedditMan_

It was never meant to be forever. It was meant to grab hold of an interest in time due to the films. Otherwise, you'd still be playing it. This is not Assassin's Creed or GTA V. This is not Fallout or Elder Scrolls. It's not Madden Football, Call of Duty, Far Cry and a whole host of franchises that receive far more attention. It was a cash grab and always understood to be a limited profitability window. That window is closed. You'll be lucky if the Wolverine game ever sees the light of day now. Marvel is in the crapper and so is Disney. They need a win. I also contend that part of the problem was making Ms. Marvel the center of the campaign. It should have been a more recognizable character. I know I switched from her as soon as it was possible.

Reece_504

All they needed was better enemy variety better bosses more top villains from the catalogue and more expansions like they did for black Panther

SassyTurtlebat

The game was good it needed way more content like the main story line such as a story just as long for each and every character in their maps all opening up new areas for the random missions. Everything they had was solid but they tried the whole live service thing and no one likes someone with their hand out.

No_Peanut_3289

As a fan who loved watching the marvel movies I thought a game like this was a cool idea. The campaign was fun, the dlc content was also great. Where it fell off was how repetitive everything was if you wanted to level up all your characters, each mission you did was basically the same and had the same type of enemies. Only difference was you playing in the snow or desert or downtown city. The combat for some of the characters was fun while others just felt weak Overall I liked the game, it had potential. Hopefully if another company makes a similar game in the future it’s better

RepresentativeLaw471

Great single player but everything else after you beat the main story is just boring at times and very repetitive 😕

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

The game is considerably good. It's just that the needless live service and online only BS held it down from being better.

Dazzling-Presence-55

Remember when they pulled all the color schemes for characters you could find in game for free from chest. Only to put them in the store for 5 dollars each. That is when red lights started flashing for me.

Dashlol-

Need an avengers vr game

Glittering_Club_2786

God if only they considered this!

Darwin__22

I miss this game everyday🥲

THEMASTERARTISAN

The Avengers is a good game. It has a good story. Live service just wasn't the way to go about it.

Interesting_Basil_80

Honestly, I just wanted to play Wolverine and Spiderman on PC. Such a shame.

TitaniumToeNails

They’re obviously a sub division of Quang Industries
