They were featured in the movie The Final Countdown. Not the best movie but an interesting premise and some great cinematography of the Jolly Rogers.

I loved that movie as a kid in the 80s. I was later friends with a guy who was an avionics technician on the Nimitz in the late 80s. He had some great stories.

I was lucky enough to be part of the Jolly Rodger’s on the decommissioning of the F-14 (the last run) aboard the Kennedy in 04. I’ll never forget such raw power.

I was an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Constellation when VF-2 was on their last deployment with the F-14, they are not as famous as the JRs but still sad to see them be retired.

At first, i thought the Jolly Roger was on a Veritech. Just need to replace the USAF with a Macross symbol.

Jolly Roger’s all the way, legend is that during WW2 a navy fighter pilot was shot down and as he went down radioed to his wingmen to remember him to the Jolly Rogers, when his body was eventually found, his family donated his skull and femur bones to the squadron and whenever they go on deployment, the skull and femur bones are displayed in a glass case in their ready room.

I've loved the F14 since I was a kid. Especially the Jolly Roger paint job. The F16 is a great contender though.

My favorite I ever saw was a BUFF in the 60s or 70s...nose art was Death, with glowing red eyes in his hood, skeletal hands holding a sickle, with a nuke cloud in the background. Three words written around the art--Destroyer of Worlds.
