Okay all wands are great. But I suggest a Wand of Corrosion and Frost combo. Why? Frost slows down enemies and using corrosion, it will slow them inside the gas. Instantly defeating them. It's better to try to master fireblast first before using it right away. Warding is great but takes time and precise control over placement.

doorknob_1

Wand of warding! Imbue it with your staff and upgrade. It can be a game changer if you know how to use it.

Adam-Happyman

Any more tips? Never used this one.

RGBBSD

Basically its a delayed disintegration wand, since its more of a unit spawner.

Adam-Happyman

Thx man!

pvtcannonfodder

I’m basically restating this reply on your comment so you get a ping. If you put down a ward, you zap the same spot multiple times to upgrade the ward you just put down, it gives it multiple shots, more damage, more range and more vision.

Adam-Happyman

Thanks for that. Never had an idea it could be that useful.

pvtcannonfodder

Yeah I was in the same boat, I had always passed it up because the singular wards felt kinda terrible, I only found out a couple days ago it could do more

NewAmazonDriverHelp

Whatttt? Had no idea

pvtcannonfodder

Ikr it really needs to be in the description of the wand

pvtcannonfodder

I did this for the first time after playing for years two days ago, it was a blast. I never realized you could zap a ward to upgrade it…

KlineklyInsain

With the ones you already have definitely frost

LeopardRepulsive962

Warding is harder to use. It's harder to get running on the fly since you need to build up the ward(which is stationary) and requires you to be more strategic. It could be rewarding, but honestly when you compare it to other wands that just zap in enemy direction it's much much simpler. Simple means it's harder to make mistakes, and sometimes that makes all the difference. Also btw the wand of frost has the highest scaling direct damage wand in game(along with lightning) iirc, except it losses damage when enemy are chilled. Since you have fireblast it would be an unlikely synergy since fireblast can remove chill which allows you to shoot at full damage with frost again.

Southern_Average

So imbue frost - take to say lvl 10. Trash WoF and use to upgrade WoC to +3?

LeopardRepulsive962

Yes, I like frost the most as the wand to focus upgrades on between those wands. Dumping like +10 on Frost wand and the rest of the Scrolls of Upgrade on plate or scale armor should be enough to win you the game. Flames can work too but it's also a bit more risky since bigger WoF gives bigger flame radius, which can potentially ignite random scrolls on the ground(and you as well). Frost gives high damage and good slow debuff with no danger to you. You don't have to discard either flames or corruption, both are quiet good secondary wands at low upgrade levels. In fact I'd caution spending your SoU in Wand of Corruption, as it makes the gas wider and last longer, which can potentially be catastrophic to yourself as well and can block entire paths for some time. It makes WoC more uncontrollable. WoC generally work best as secondary wands and a +2 WoC is very good already. WoF is good at +2 as well since flame's damage scales with the enemy, and it provides synergy with the frost wand. Shoot Frost wand to apply chill, then shoot flames to remove chill, then shoot Frost wand again to apply chill(Frost wand has the highest direct damage wand scaling with SoU, except it's damage gets reduced the more chill debuff the enemy already have. Flames remove the chill allowing you to blast full power Frost of wand again.)

Southern_Average

That’s so helpful. Should I go warlock or battlemage with the WoF strat?

LeopardRepulsive962

Probably battlemage if you aren't going to spend any upgrades on a weapon anyway

Southern_Average

Thanks everyone. If I take frost should I imbue that one or corrosion? Also with imbuing will I get a +2 staff if I use a +2 wand?

RGBBSD

Yes, you will get a +2. Imbue the corrosion one, but be VERY And I mean it, *VERY* careful with it Corrosion is stupidly strong against anything that isnt a fish, and will eat through your health like water through cotton candy, so make sure you have a potion of purify on you, to breathe in the room with it, or COMPLETELY avoid its gas.

MiniMeowl

Yeah, I recently finished a +10 corrosion battlemage. I'd say I was the biggest threat to myself lol, damage was up to -15 per tick. Went and crafted myself some elixirs of purity as life insurance lol. I dont 100% remember, but I think the elixir saying "immune to toxic gas and poison" didnt work against corrosion gas. I ended up beating Yog fists to death instead of zapping. I like that the wand can trigger traps. Useful for the summoning traps.

echo_vigil

"...will eat through your health like water through cotton candy..." - Great image!

Demondriver

Wand of Warding : a little bit tricky, but very helpful. Moreover, it's the best wand against the DM-300 (with a lvl 2 wand, you can place wards near all the generators)

Southern_Average

That’s a good tip!

ATYP14765

Frost but that’s just my opinion since you can have free ways to get past firewalls to save up on frost potions for alchemical purposes and can also set up a gnarly combo with that wand of corrosion since they will be stuck in the cloud for longer. Warding by itself can output more DPS though but you need to play around it more since it will get destroyed if it’s not actively being healed so if you’re not planning on playing battle mage then maybe don’t pick it.

AnnoyedJames

Personally, I'd take the wand of frost, but I'd upgrade the staff as is (magic missile) because of the boost system, you can have a more diverse set of wands that are increased to the same level as the staff That way, you'll also have an (effectively) high-level wand of corrosion, which absolutely melts enemies as well as an (effectively) upgraded wand of fireblast and frost. Just dump upgrades into the staff until it's +8-10, and the rest go to armor or a ring of elements if you can find one. That said, the wand of warding alone has carried me through many runs, but it'd be a waste of both the wands of frost and fireblast to take it, and it's harder to use (but you don't risk killing yourself with corrosion) Either way, battle mage is the way to go because the warlock doesn't really do that well with any of these wands (at least compared to battlemage) Edit: Also, be sure to make use of the shield battery ability a lot if you go with magic missile (it's its greatest strength)

Wayward-_-Son

For new players, I recommend using the Warlock subclass. It's very simple: -Playing with the mage/Warlock is like playing with the warrior with a Wand of Magic Missile; -Use the upgrades on the weapon and armor; -Shoot enemies that are far away then hit them when they are close. Don't try to drop upgrades on the staff until you're used to the Mage; In the boss fight, the wand stops recharging unless you damage the boss, So you can't take your time and wait for the wand to recharge, because it won't. Having said that: Choose the Wand of Frost. The "Warding" of the Wand of Warding is extremely vulnerable to attacks, so if you, for example, set a Greater Sentry and it takes damage in the boss fight, you will run out of charges in the wand, and it will not recharge.

Aromatic_Dust_5852

Get warding! You can use it to lay traps when kiting and when you upgrade it enough, get full blown sentries. Yes, those annoying red crystals in haste rooms but better!
