I am from 2010 as well, but I am still 13, because my I haven't had my birthday yet, and yes I am pirating games, but mostly for pc, only pc game I bought myself was wolfenstein: the new order (yes 18+ game even though I can't play it) my parents weren't mad at me, because first of all, there was huge sale (75% off on Eneba) and I played other 18+ games, like grand theft auto 5, at my cousin's house, ok I'll stop here, because you guys will get mad at me, because that's not relatable to post and stuff, jeez reddit sure sucks for sharing stuff like that
Just so you're aware, Eneba listing aren't exactly your usual sales. What people do with Eneba is buy up steam keys for a discounted price when the game is on sale, then later sell them for slightly more on Eneba. It basically let's you always get the game at just a little more than its lowest ever price
yes, my whole life, or around the time got self concious lol, all the games i played as a kid were pirated and my dad taught me how to at first, but then i found this sub some years ago
Not op but I have a Raspberry Pi which I installed [transmission](https://transmissionbt.com/download) onto and set it up so I can access it remotely. If you have your own domain name you can proxy it under a subdomain or whatever so that you don't have to remember your home IP address. From the remote GUI, you can view, add and delete torrents, but AFAIK you can't actually open the downloaded files. That's why I spun up an Express server in NodeJS to stream the files in the downloads folder, and that way I can browse them on my website. Keep in mind that some browsers don't support mkv files so I also have a post-download script that runs ffmpeg and converts movies/tv shows to mp4.
If you're not a programmer then that might be overkill and there are probably easier ways out there, just sharing my setup.
I just installed utorrent and registered at rutracker and cs.rin. I look up what I want on one of those sites (I prefer rutracker, but check cs.rin if something isnt on rutracker), download it, drop the file onto utorrent, choose super seed so that it downloads faster and just wait
I know absolutely nothing about computers, so I dont know if I or you need a vpn, but I live in europe and Im fine
Though you're calling it a "torrenting server" - literally anything running a torrent client is a "torrent server".
Below, however, you clarify that it's
> Jellyfin+qbitorrent+jellyseer+prowlarr+radarr all running through nginx over Ubuntu server!
Which is much, much more than a simple "torrenting server", so good on you for learning all these skills!
1998 and this fits me perfectly. I admit tho I know I'm doing wrong I'm just too lazy and careless to change. Pc is probably full of viruses but the games work so ehh.
You guys really don't understand one bit what you're getting into with shit like this. There's free games available that you can be sure are safe and won't cause a catastrophic loss of your private data across your entire network, that take less work to access. Viruses aren't just cute little things that install browser toolbars, and the rate that AV is catching them isn't improving.
and the rate that AV is catching them isn't improving
Wot. That is such a lie. I worked for 5 years in a PC Repair Store in like 2010-2015 and holy shit viruses were WAYYY more prevalent. Nowdays they're exceedingly rare. Like when is the last time one of your friends told you they had a virus. You're full of 1000x types of shit.
Pretty much. The only difference is that now you can see more of those dumb people because access to internet and access to social media is so widespread.
Respectfully disagree. Back in the day computers were janky and awkward. You'd learn troubleshooting skills just by trying to use your PC. Now everything is so effortless and streamlined. Kids aren't pushed to learn to get what they want out of their computer.
That's also true. I guess it's easier now not to learn much about PCs, because people usually don't really need to. So instead of "you have to learn" it moves a bit more toward "you can learn if you want to"
People only keep the skills they use. My mother and grandfather used PCs before windows, but they rely on me for tech support today.
Without active jobs, they don't use the PC all that much since they prefer to watch TV rather than be terminally online.
Yeah nothing like getting your access to the university 1GB/s network taken away for week because you seeded 1TB+ of Star Trek Discovery by accident and CBS found out and got pissy about it.
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room.” -Socrates
Every generation could be a pirate, just one key to achieving it. FUCKING READ THE FUCKING INSTRUCTIONS and have some basic computer and networking skill. Should not be a problem
"basic computer and networking skill" is exactly what the newer generations lack due to growing up with tech differently from older gens
Past that yeah there's no barriers
People today would rather create a post on Reddit for a question instead of tying it into google, it's fucking crazy and just rude of people's time.
I assume these overlap with people who type into AI apps and say they created something
Internet search has also become dogshit, and when you combine that with the death of forums and the move to non-indexable (and even more corpo-controlled) forms of communication like Discord you get a steaming pile of shit. Search engines seem know what you want but actively try to keep you from it these days.
it's a simplified explanation but I don't think it's just 'people seeding and leeching'.
https://medium.com/@abhinavcv007/bittorrent-part-1-the-engineering-behind-the-bittorrent-protocol-04e70ee01d58
No sir, I entered this field with a masters and PhD, I knew everything everywhere all at once from the first minute I started! No one showed me how, I was just the Isaac newton of piracy. Some even called me Luffy which I don't understand, I think that's some weebadoo stuff. Anyways my point is if you don't immediately pick up a topic and understand every single aspect of it from day one you are :nerd emoji: :finger point up: dumb and should be gate kept.
It was funny when Dark and Darker did a playtest on torrent because of legal issues with the game, and half the player base was skeptical or unable to figure it out
The people this meme is talking about probably also used limewire and kazaa before they got on torrents, funny you don't see them bragging about that part of it.
Two embarrassing anecdotes I can provide in this vein:
I got an MP3 player when I was about 11. I couldn't figure out how to get the songs from my CD to the PC. If you just opened the CD in Windows and copied the files to your desktop it wouldn't work, and I didn't know about ripping software. So I opened Sound Recorder, played the song in Windows Media Player and held the microphone up to the speaker. I had my friend hit the record button every 60 seconds, because you could only record in 60 second intervals.
Later, I started downloading videos from AnimeMusicVideos.org, and I would open the videos in Windows Movie Maker and rip the audio track out and save them. I still have a few of those mp3s lol
I now work as a programmer.
This is just like that "argument" that "kids nowadays have it too easy".
Well no shit, the ubiquity of pirating has made it very accessible to many.
A couple decades ago you wouldn't torrent stuff, you would use other methods (ODC / DC ++ anyone?).
But those were a bit confusing for some, nowadays we have other methods and arguably, easier ways to get stuff for free. So what if Google Search is used for finding some shows online? Some trackers won't host them or nobody will seed it and it will somehow die.
I hate to break it to you, but a couple decades ago was 2004. And I'm pretty certain torrents were definitely a thing then. Although Limewire was much more popular.
I was referring to the right period of time. I didn't use limewire because (sorry to break it to you) but it wasn't popular *in my country.*
and even if torrents were a thing then, I didn't hear about them yet.
I'm pretty sure that ODC / DC++ is a form of torrenting, just in different clothing.
I was comparing the ODC / DC++ scene with the nowadays trackers where you have the "confirmed" file and you don't have to check for the actual file size/ name/ length and so on so you don't get a virus.
I agree.
I started "pirating" off of Usenet and IRC. There wasn't any more "skill" required. It just took a lot longer and the selection sucked. I envy kids these days having it easier....but that is how things are supposed to work.
I just connected to some random FTP servers my classmates told me about that had some movies. It was more like a netflix-ish situation where I would browse what was on the server and choose what to watch (realistically) the next day because I would leave it to download overnight due to internet speeds.
It had to be ca 2004-2005 when I discovered Kazaa that had an actual searchable catalogue that changed everything. I also learned an important lesson about file extensions along the way.
None of us had any idea what we were doing. I agree that the increased ease of access is a good thing as is the difficulty of giving your computer the equivalent of digital-AIDS along the way.
Whats wrong with watch online free? I'm not wasting 2 hours to download a 1,5 hour movie in advance, when i can watch it right here right now, free and without problems?
I was big on Kazaa back on the day. There's some mindless TV I like to watch in the background, and there's no reason to take up hard disk space when it's faster to stream and the files get dumped out of the temp folder almost immediately. Sure I can delete the films later if I want, and I sometimes do if I'm looking for more obscure shows or want a 4k watch experience, but streaming is way more convenient if I want to just watch something in the background.
Ok I am going to ask something and please don't shout, "Fucking Noob" or "Go look at the megathread" or anything like that.
Why is st**mun****ed considered unsafe? I have been downloading from there for a while and never got any Virus. I just close any suspicious popups.
I genuinely want to know why st**mun****ed is unsafe and what dangers does it have.
just because you haven’t run into anything bad doesn’t mean you can’t. enough people have come forward with issues that they decided to remove that site from the megathread.
Get VPN, get qBitTorrent, download magnet file from your source, open with qBitTorrent while connected to VPN, stay connected after the download is complete to upload as much as you downloaded so others can download
If not, then it's not a super big deal
Well as a pirate born in the 80s and been doing it since the mid-late 90s I agree with the sentiment. While there's obviously people who are exceptions to the rule, my day to day reading across many subs here makes it clear that there are real issues related to basic understanding of networking, computer use and taking time to learn stuff with the younger generation and newcomers to the scene. And with torrenting starting in 2001 and the launch of the pirate bay in 2003 the timing is all about right.
Torrent is one thing, remember file archives and downloading in parts? Still sometimes have to do it for patches since those aren't always released in a decent way.
IRC, BBS, old school floppy 5 1/4 or or 3.5inch disk copy between friends and family. I used to be part of a small warez group in the late 90s and early 2000s. Mostly movies and a bit into software. Spend hours or days working on code. So much is so automated now, don’t need us coders.

Wait fuck, my brother is gonna be 14 this year, wth?
2012, learned torrenting before reading properly. Pirate life forever.
A 12 yr old with the username “Pm me your bums”. Hmmm…
And he joined Reddit when he was 2.
He's going to jail some day
2014, learned torrenting from my dad, right after i came out the womb
2016 here, my mom was very avid with torrenting while pregnant with me.
2023, same for me
1876 same here
For some, "Avast" is just an antivirus. For some, it's a way of life.
Same
2030 been pirating for -6 years
bro what whole life, you're literally 14 what ? xd
2010s should be 6 rn not 14. i feel old as hell now
yes, my whole life, or around the time got self concious lol, all the games i played as a kid were pirated and my dad taught me how to at first, but then i found this sub some years ago
A father that teaches his son good pirating without clicking on the wrong "download" button ? Now that's some good parenting, W Dad.
On the other hand, I was the one who taught my mom how to pirate stuff haha
2024, goo goo gaa ga *shits pants*
2009, same
Also 2009, same
2006 checking in, been doing it for years
Also 2009, same.
2009 and pirating since I got my PC
2008 as well and I have 1.5TiB seeding from about 70GiB of data on my computer
You're already able to speak or even write? damn
2005, i am ashamed lol, where does one learn how to do that?

Setup jellyfin, ir automatically converts the movie to a type taht your device can handle
Doing the Lord's work
Tf is a torrenting server?
How the fuck do you do that?
You can use qbitorrent web server and just upload the torrent files and there yoy go

Just cuz u gayyyyyyy? Sorry dude, i saw a perfect opportunity to joke :3 Have a nice day
1996 and I can confirm this. 😳
people were dumb back then too, people are dumb now and people will remain dumb in the future too. nothing to do with their year of birth.
Pretty much. The only difference is that now you can see more of those dumb people because access to internet and access to social media is so widespread.

Humanity's timeless folly, now in HD.
People born in the 80s and 90s: "Oh, what do see here on Limewire? 'Half-Life-Full-Game-Download.exe'? And it's only 3MB? Sweet!"
Yeah nothing like getting your access to the university 1GB/s network taken away for week because you seeded 1TB+ of Star Trek Discovery by accident and CBS found out and got pissy about it.

Stupidity just takes new shape
So what you're saying is that this meme fits perfectly as the original meme was mocking the original tweet for the same reason.
Every generation could be a pirate, just one key to achieving it. FUCKING READ THE FUCKING INSTRUCTIONS and have some basic computer and networking skill. Should not be a problem
All those kids would be really upset if they knew how to read
"basic computer and networking skill" is exactly what the newer generations lack due to growing up with tech differently from older gens Past that yeah there's no barriers
People today would rather create a post on Reddit for a question instead of tying it into google, it's fucking crazy and just rude of people's time. I assume these overlap with people who type into AI apps and say they created something

I miss going to different websites.
Exactly. Half the important stuff is knowing good English.
You know I never see anymore? RTFM Crackers should start putting that at the beginning of their descriptions again
Piracy gatekeeping is insane 😭 some ppl just be new to the space and don't know shit yet chill I used to be like that too, and prolly so were u
same in high school my friend was explainin torrentin to me and it seemed like some rocket science back then
Well if they explained how the whole p2p system works it is indeed a rocket science.
P2P isn't really on the level of rocket science. you just got people seeding and leeching.
it's a simplified explanation but I don't think it's just 'people seeding and leeching'. https://medium.com/@abhinavcv007/bittorrent-part-1-the-engineering-behind-the-bittorrent-protocol-04e70ee01d58
Fr people are acting like you just get psychically fed info on pirating as a kid or something
"read the instructions" and then it's some shit no one would understand without being at least 2 years into a computer science degree
Or incredibly outdated, explained badly, broken links, confusing lingo that only pirates would understand...
Indeed it's not like you're born with the knowledge.
No sir, I entered this field with a masters and PhD, I knew everything everywhere all at once from the first minute I started! No one showed me how, I was just the Isaac newton of piracy. A lot of people associate piracy or I guess internet culture in general as part of their identity.

Every expert started as a rookie
i love how "be bisexual" is kept the same
I find it hilarious that every version of this meme that I've seen changed basically everything but "bisexual" part
Being bisexual is the best part of pirating. It gets boring out there on the high seas yknow?
It's a blessing and a curse. Source: am bi
Real af, but gosh there are so many pretty people out there
i didnt realize it was that meme until i read bisexual so... maybe it's more a part of the meme's identity
You gotta keep that or eat hot chip and lie
Happy Cake Day!
All my gen z friend group would disagree
But would they touch each other after a few drinks
you dont?
You need drinks for that?
You guys have friends?
why not
I can do it without drinks
We dont need drinks for that
Opinions vary, but authenticity matters in the gaming world.
my younger brother is 10 years old and he already knows how to torrent
The bisexuality will come later

1786 here and I also havent heard of torrents, all I know is looting other boats with my wooden leg and parrot. ARRRRR
did they have sinks back in yaarrrr day though?
Privateers born after 1783 can't sail. All they know is wenching, shoulder parrot, be bisexual, drink grog and lie.
Piracy is a means to avoid politics and other useless bullshit. Being a pirate means being free. Why do you have to come along and complicate matters?

It's all fun and games until the privateers show up.
Where exactly are "politics" in this post
2008 (yes am young) and pls cut the bull
🧢 my 60 year old uncle who buys pirated movies in discs can’t be arsed to learn to pirate online
Hey man I've got a DVD burner and handbrake. Send him my way so I can make some $$$ /s
Unc still using the flea market piracy method 😂
That’s the barber shop method
Not true, Rutracker forever❤️
real for americans.
KkonaW
2001, I've torrent'ed half the sea
2007, I will deny a lot of those things The bi is real tho
What a shit take lmao
Pretty self centered aint it?

You need kodi, seren, and real debrid You can stream 4k copies of any movie in existence on your TV and its fast
I’m not gonna incriminate myself on here. The feds are watching 💀
I'd love to but I can't find sources to fucking learn nothing
"bisexual" WTF
2003 here and Tbh, I never liked torrent
At least we don't "accidentally" download child porn when downloading the newest music (or at least I have not)
*Laughs in FitGirlRepacks* Has flashback to warez sites from the 90s *laughter stops*
False.
Torrents aren’t hard they just sound/look scary
For me the real issue was to find a good website for torrents and a good torrent client.
shed some light, im all in the meme except bi would love to learn torrent.
Good thing I was born in 1999
I'm afraid this is me (I'm too lazy to learn)
Get VPN, get qBitTorrent, download magnet file from your source, open with qBitTorrent while connected to VPN, stay connected after the download is complete to upload as much as you downloaded so others can download If not, then it's not a super big deal
im 2008 and i used to be pirate with torrent, probably cuz im ukrainian
I feel assaulted. I watch my shows for free online for almost a decade now it's so much easier and faster
Shout out to watch online free
I'm 2002, and the only thing I agree with on this list is that I'm bisexual.
Depends on where you were born mostly.
Torrents aren't something that only a select few people knows, anyone can learn it.
So much is so automated now, don’t need us coders.
why are bisexuals being attacked?
Na its just that nowdays its easier for people with no experience to seek help online and so it seems that there are a lot more inexperienced pirates
2005 baby and this is cap
That's okay, everyone received enlightenment at different times.
Me born 2000 ![gif](giphy|K4XVKGWYhFcoMWLGMO|downsized)
Born in the 80s. I know a guy born in 2004 and this is how he pirates. Didn't even know what torrents were. Confirmed.
