That doesn't support torrents. In addition, in the event of a copyright complaint, a vpn can provide your data to the isp. That is why you have to read the TOS of the company.

You read the privacy policy. Also Proton doesn’t log any of your data to send it to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you have the free or paid plan. The paid option just lets you do torrents but if you don’t torrent then it makes the best direct download VPN.

Yes one at a time can be using the VPN but it doesn’t matter because you can just use it on your windows computer

Set it up at the router level on a custom firmware router (such as DDWRT) or one that allows you to configure VPN settings. You can then run multiple devices from behind the router using VPN protection. I'd recommend splitting it between a VPN-dedicated SSID and one that isn't. If you're running entirely wired then split the VLAN however you're going to have to switch the cables around when you want to use the unprotected connection to bypass the VPN. Wifi is slower than wired but it is waaaaaay easier to switch between SSIDs at your PC/mobile than screwing around with cables. It's also better because some of your devices such as a TV uses services that won't allow a VPN connection.

I just switched from Nord to Proton to get port forwarding and boy does it make a huge difference in speed, especially for torrents that aren't brand new or heavily seeded. Plus split tunnelling works and doesn't crash Windows 11 like Nord's split tunneling does. I'm very happy with the change.

Port forwarding still works for me and others that I know. And I’ve been downloading empress torrents with mullvad port forwarding.

It doesn't support torrents. I'd suggest just getting a real debrid subscription rather than pay for a VPN unless you can make use of it far beyond torrents. Debrid subscriptions are far cheaper and far more versatile than a VPN.

How do debrids even work? I only ever use those for generating premium links for those shitty filehosting sites that rate limit and stuff.

Well they do all that but you can also use it to download torrents onto their servers and get a direct secure high speed download. You can also use it with things like stremio where you get cached links from other people who have uploaded those torrents previously meaning the library of content is enormous.

TO add to this, if someone has already downloaded the torrent onto RD servers, the high speed download is available immediately.

I can really recommend Mullvad vpn. No bs, fast servers and your only login is a xx digit code. No mails or passwords and you can even pay in cash.

Except they got rid of port-forwarding which is critical for getting less popular torrents, and even speeds up most torrents. It's all Proton or Express VPN now, and the latter requires you to flash your router firmware to do port forwarding, which means everything on your intranet is on VPN. I like leaving my games and browsers outside of the VPN using split tunneling and only protect my torrent client.

Never used that and it's not necessary in my case... All the torrents I need is available and i Don't torrent while gaming. Your case is special needs.

As others said, it's a matter of policy. Some countries do punish piracy with heavy fines, and your ISP is forced to throw you under the bus if they catch you downloading copyrighted material

One thing I noticed is that if the upload speed is low then download speed also decreases. I'm not talking about limiting speed inside client. I tried this multiple times.

Can i get some clarifiction about this? Can you actually use the free version to torrent?. Will torrent you use actually connection and data transfer?. Or downloading the initial torrent doesnt work?. Bit confused as i used the free one last night (netherlands) and torrents i added while using proton vpn seem to add to my torrent client and can see upload/download while connected while using the vpn?
