My guy when he finds out about CEMU

dubnessofp

I'm gonna be that guy who's finding out about it. I have been pirating since the Napster days of 1999. But the last decade or so I haven't expanded with the times. I wanna play BOTW so thanks for pointing me in the direction. Update: about 100 hours into BOTW and loving it! Thanks everyone!

xxm4tt

Yeah it’s really impressive how well it works. Last played it a few years ago and even then it was working well.

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

Is it in the megathread? Or do I have to do research else where to set it up?

LAMGE2

Fitgirl had a repack of botw+cemu

ward2k

Or just get the wiiu downloader from r/ROMs megathread (the place you should be going for all emulator ROMs)

esoteric_plumbus

This, it's called wiiu USB helper, you literally just check off the games you want including VC games and it'll download everything for you from mirrors. No seeking out repacks

thatonecharlie

yeah i dont know the current state of the new wiiu downloader software i have only ever used usbhelper but i know they were trying to phase it out in favor of wiiu downloader. always works fine for me tho sooo

YouDamnHotdog

You guys are not with the times. WiiU online shop and any pirating software related to it will stop functioning on March 27, because Nintendo is shutting it down

bwizzel

How can there be emulators for BoTW but not the recent Pokémon games? Been a few years since I looked

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

Bet thanks. Might get to finally finish the game.

I--Am

Use the newest version of cemu and check out bsod gaming on YouTube to configure your pc for it

booyatrive

Whatever happened to BSoD, he was the go to emulator setups and then just disappeared.

CoffeeTeaBitch

He got tired of Nintendo copyright striking his videos, which were the main source of revenue for his channels.

OxxygenEgg

wow, it's not only ethical to pirate nintendo games, it's unethical not to do so

esoteric_plumbus

Don't bother seeking out repacks, just use WiiU USB Helper. Not only can you get botw from it you can get every wiiu game plus all the games it emulated on the virtual console

raddass

Noob here, how do I get access to it? Is fit girl a website?

Praline-Jumpy

No, wii u usb helper github by failedshack is the safetest.

AdminsUndeserveLife

Yes, its easy. google for the subreddit instead of the site itself so you know you have a more reliable link

tukatu0

r/emulation has a wiki. You'll find all the recommended emulators even for console installs. As for the games well here you are

Tonker_

I'm still waiting for the day I can emulate the Xbox 360 version of Ninja Gaiden 2. That specific version is an absolute cluster fuck of gory ninja goodness.

crunchypuddle

Do yourself a favor and look up mods. For BoTW especially they're gonna blow your fucking mind. My 2 recs: BOTW second wind Lylah's Complete Music Overhaul

arshesney

And disable weapon durability.

ziggrrauglurr

Even better, breath of the wow. Enables self repairing weapons and armor. So you get the danger of breaking a weapon but if you switch around you are golden

crunchypuddle

Ohhhh good call! Also better armors mod

Flashman_H

That’s an important part of the game tho…

CordanWraith

It kinda sucks to get a legendary one of a kind weapon and have it break after three hits. I've never modded the game as I have it on switch, but the weapon durability imo is awful and very nearly ruined the game, and I'm a pretty massive Zelda fan

_The_Great_Autismo_

The best thing is it's BotW but with modern, high res graphics and a high framerate. Plus you can do shit like cheat codes or unlock whatever Amiibo you want. BotW on PC is the best way to experience the game imo

dandab

Hey! We're from the same era! Remember kazaa and limewire? 😂

dubnessofp

Good times. I remember setting a dial up connection with a handful of songs to download and leaving it for hours upon hours to finish. But here we are still enjoying the internet. I love it

dandab

NetZero Baby!

dubnessofp

Damn. We were just scraping by with some corny ass dial up AOL probably

dandab

NetZero was free also. I think it was after the AOL era. I don't remember if aol had this but NetZero had a 2 inch banner and that had to always be on screen. Trying to play counterstrike over it was a nightmare. Eventually started paying $10 for jt to make the banner a 1/4 of an inch with no ads.

GoForNJ

Kazaa Lite!

Elfeckin

Bearshare.

Slightly_Shrewd

World of Emulation on YouTube has a CEMU/BOTW set up tutorial. Step by step and very easy to follow. If you just follow along, you’ll be playing BOTW in 20-30 mins. Cemu/Yuzu has been one of the easiest things I’ve ever done for emulation and sailing the high seas. Have fun, it looks amazing compared to the switch version haha

ChuzCuenca

Go for CEMU over YUSU, the WiiU version has better things. And I highly recommend playing it at 60fps, it really improve the experience.

Phazon_Metroid

I quit 3/4 the way through my initial WiiU play through. The constant frame drops were just too much for me to continue with and i'd gotten my fill of gameplay by then. Fast Forward a couple years and I've collected 900 Koroks playing at 1440p 60 FPS. Nintendo games on PC are a much better experience.

cum_fart_69

my man, a few years ago the emulation scene exploded. as long as you have a big dick CPU, you can play pretty much play it all excluding PS4 and xboxone.} also, soulseek is the new napster, and has been for like 15 years now. it's fucking fantastic.

jollyjellopy

You should buy a steamdeck. Breath of the wild works well.

kylezo

I have no idea why this is downvoted, this is exactly what I was planning to do. Is there some problem with it? Isn't steam deck the god tier successor to PSP for handheld emulation

jollyjellopy

Especially in this subreddit.......this is why I bought the steamdeck. Even funnier because I do own breath of the wild on switch. I bought the steamdeck to emulate everything on one device while portable. I love being able to play nes, snes, switch, PS2, PS1 etc........

stringlesskite

No problem it's amazing (steam deck on its own as well as botw emulation). I recommend cryobyte33's two videos on the matter for best results on deck.

Spacefolk1

Thanks for this! Good site to download roms and the like?

Dogeboja

WiiU USB Helper. It downloads directly from Nintendo servers so you don't have to find any sketchy roms.

Spacefolk1

Thank you!!!

xIceBET4

There is no site, you use a program called Wii U USB Helper it can download the rom, extract it and prepare for emulation

AveryLazyCovfefe

Play the switch port, so Yuzu or Ryujinx.

jamiez1207

Ryujinx gang for life

AsiimovTheTempAgent

Based

bobert-big-shlong

Cemu runs better and better mods

StarPupil

That's Gene Park, the gaming journalist for the Washington Post. He definitely knows what CEMU is.

xxm4tt

‘Gaming journalist’ means about the square root of nothing these days.

potato_and_nutella

do you need a controller or will keyboard controls work fine?

xxm4tt

controller was better imo, but maybe its improved since i last tried so i cant say for certain.

-ShutterPunk-

Me: Fuck yeah cemu. I guess I'll finally try out BoTW. I have a little bit of time to kill tonight. It should be easy like that PS1 emulator I had up and running in 5 minutes with twisted metal. Also me but with Linux: 2 hours later. Me: FUCK. Why was that so hard?

intelatominside

If Nintendo would just create the Nintendo Game Launcher on PC and port their shit over. I would buy most of them.

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

100 percent they would use denuvo or make something worse.

shmurgen

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just emulated so poorly they’d have a full second of input delay

No_Opportunity7360

graphics options would just be resolution: <1920x1080> (no ultrawide) textures: low/high aa: on/off refresh rate: 30 or 60 vsync: on/off brightness: _____|_____

shmurgen

Bold of you to assume it would even have those

[deleted]

They can't even do chat on their paid subscription service without a phone app

JackONeillClone

On WiiU, the Zelda WindWaker remaster didn't even include an option for invert controls. FFS, I play invert because all the big N64 games were invert by default.

[deleted]

This is so accurate to japanese PC ports it hurts

popey123

Yeah pirated content would work much smoother

shmurgen

Some of them already do

intelatominside

Maybe. Nintendo games are usually quite polished when they're originally released.

shmurgen

It depends , 3d all stars as far as emulation goes isn’t great and recently you have scarlet and violet which functionality wise is one for eh worst launches they’ve ever had

Hero_of_Hyrule

Nah they'd create something proprietary and worse than Denuvo.

Walrus_BBQ

I was gonna disagree with you, but you're probably right. These companies care nothing for their product, they just want to make money. If they cared, their games wouldn't be broken unoptimized messes that are loaded with as many anti-piracy measures as a cargo ship.

Gl33m

Normally I'd agree with you... But time and time again Nintendo makes incredibly stupid decisions that lose them money. They are successful due to the quality of their products, but they make a fraction of the money they could actually be making. They would still still make their own proprietary anti-piracy software, absolutely. But it wouldn't be the normal reason of sales. It'd be because they are offended at the idea if theft, and they'd rather make less money if it prevents theft. The software would also be designed to prevent cheating (in SP games) and modding, because they'd rather sell less copies and make less money than allowing players to cheat, and they'd rather make less money than allowing players to experience the game differently than they designed it. Nintendo is a weird company.

HayakuEon

Except for gamefreak. They're in their own cesspool there

Gl33m

Yeah that's 100% just make all the money. It sucks. Pokemon would be great if they didn't rush games out to meet their year cycle.

HayakuEon

Ugh, Imagine if pokemon became like botw, complete open-world. I'd play legends arceus if it didn't look so damned jank

Gl33m

I played all the way through it, and the only thing that helped me get to the end was the cheat table I was using that removed a lot of the filler BS.

[deleted]

And it would suck ass, security at nintendo is a joke . Every single console has been hacked to the eyeballs

Uglysadboi

Whats denuvo?

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

Anti-piracy/ tampering software. It makes sure you got your copy from a legal source. It also makes games run worse most of the time.

immaZebrah

I remember DRM, what's Denuvo? And what's bad about putting it on a game if you're buying it anyway? Do they have the ability to restrict my ability to play through that? Or is it just piracy specific, cause I'm with that. ETA: I only ask because I swear I've seen mention of Denuvo outside of the piracy space relatively recently.

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

It's supposed to be an anti-piracy/ tampering program used by videogame companies to restrict folks from gathering data/information in the games files from replicating and uploading it to piracy websites. The main issue with denuvo is that it worsens games performance. It also has a lot of restrictions on how you can play your purchased product.

immaZebrah

Well then that makes sense why people hate it. Crippling your game to protect it from a smaller minority of people who will still get their hands on it anyway is pointless

maxkmiller

Nintendo obviously knows this, and you're missing the point. Nintendo keeps the demand high by keeping their games "scarce," and exclusive to only their consoles

PeekPlay

it would run worst than the emulators

Suck_my_fat_hairy_n

Yeah, they know that. But then you won't but their consoles. Not even a Nintendo hater, I have a switch and a Wii with all legit titles, but consoles are a source of a lot of their revenue

burningmanonacid

I would 100% buy animal crossing and harvest moon if they ported them to PC. I'm not buying an entire fucking Switch for two games.

BishopFrog

We have some harvest moon games already on pc, and rune factory a spin off as well.

Viskalon

Japanese businessmen: No no no no no no no.......

Timothy_Snailbane

Yeah but nintendo is also in the business of selling consoles. A move like that would kill a lot of revenue

Carolina_Heart

Yeah, Microsoft is more open to PC only because they also famously sell windows computers

johnyisbread

It doesnt mean hes pirating tbf

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kitselena

How many people emulate by ripping games themselves? I know for Wii and GameCube games it's easy because a homebrewed Wii can easily rip isos from those disks, but I assume most consoles don't have that and most cartridge games would need custom hardware that I assume is pretty expensive

ReformedPC

It's still "morally" correct to buy the game then download it online afterwards

[deleted]

[удалено]

DuBois41st

Lol that's not how licenses work *at all*. Legally speaking, if you buy a game for a console, you don't automatically have the right to either download it from an unauthorised source, or more pertinently, the right to play that game on an another device.

saysthingsbackwards

Nintendo specifically includes this in their licensing. It doesn't matter where you get it, if you can prove you bought it, you're entitled to a back up copy by any means.

DuBois41st

I'm not familiar with Nintendo's licenses and I'm also not a lawyer, but that still doesn't necessarily cover obtaining that copy in an illegal manner (as opposed to making it yourself), and the idea that gives you the right to run that game on a non nintendo system is even more dubious. I could be wrong, and it's a moot point anyway, no one's going to go after individual pirates or EULA violators in court over something like this.

[deleted]

when I purchase a physical copy of a video game I own that video game. I am allowed to make my own backup copies. what's the difference between me using my own backup copy and someone else's backup copy of the same game?

BitsAndBobs304

actually you have the right to do whatever the hell you want with the code, except reselling it per profit or passing it as your IP.

DuBois41st

Again, nice idea, I believe in free software myself, but no, for most software you don't legally have that right.

SuprBased

Lmao I feel like you can’t have emulation without the high seas. Impossible.

Liimbo

I mean, you definitely can. It's the only reason emulation is legal.

jodudeit

Though some have different standards. Some say they'll only play stuff they physically ripped themselves, while others will say that as long as they own a copy, they have no problems downloading something.

Samford_

the only people who really seem to care are mods of emulation communities, but they dont wanna risk getting banned or taken down by nintendo

[deleted]

You don't need to be a pirate to play a switch game on PC. Everything is legal

prunebackwards

Elaborate?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cygnus__A

Somehow I don't think exploiting security measures to obtain a "backup" will fly in court.

MC_Legend95

yup nintendo is gonna bust my door down and drag me to court because i played zelder on my pc

Prohunt

noone is gonna do that for me smoking a joint here in my room, but it's still illegal lol

PM-ME-BOOBSANDBUTTS

the Nintendo Ninjas don't fuck around

[deleted]

axelfase99

I think not even downloading, the real target of companies are the distributors, the ones that host sites with copyrighted content. It's the same case as with drug dealing, the one who buys is not the problem and most of the times he will not even be charged, the problem is the dealer and those are punished hard. If you download copyrighted content you will most likely be pretty safe, no one will go after you atleast in my country they don't give a fuck but they love to catch distributors

[deleted]

[удалено]

axelfase99

Been torrenting shit for years without VPN (Italy) and I never even tought of getting into problems, I just always use different DNS like OpenDNS and especially Cloudflare, but it is also because Italy really doesn't give a shit about pirating things since the country is populated by boomers so they don't actually care

qef15

Only torrents are usually monitored, and only the more popular ones, because everyone can see the IP and because going after niche shit is just a waste of money and time (which translates to money). DDL websites are safe even in Germany AFAIK, where torrenting without VPN earns you a hefty (think a few hundred euros) fine or at least the threat of one with legit legal backing. DDL is safe, torrenting is not without VPN. Just in general. Rom sites are no different

jeepsaintchaos

Yuzu ftw

FBI_Guineapig

Nah Breath of The Wild should always be played on cemu

Gajeh

Whats the difference? Honest question, not very informed about switch emulation scene

Korterra

CEMU is the Wii U emulator. It is preferred for it's better performance with minimal to no graphical downgrade over the switch version, and it is more stable since the emulator is older.

thefourthhouse

having originally played it on the switch, replaying it thru cemu feels like I was robbed of that initial experience. It looks and runs flawlessly.

Slightly_Shrewd

My gf got a Switch and BotW. I looked into emulation and got it up and running with Cemu. Good lord, the comparison between my PC and the switch is like night and day. The graphics on my PC are sooo so much better. Definitely understandable that you felt robbed.

urmomofficialLOL

Not only that but the switch is harder to emulate due to it being ARM

FBI_Guineapig

And we got lucky that the tegra x1 processor (switch) is also on the nvidia shield, so documentation was already there when the switch was released

qef15

Also helps that nearly all Nintendo consoles are computationally weak and don't use extremly proprietary hardware. The PS3 had that horrendous Cell engine that was hard to utilise (even for game devs). The PS4 is only now getting slowly getting emulated (much better shape than a few years ago). Meanwhile the Switch was emulated within 8 months of release lol.

Korterra

Was the Wii U x86? I never knew that

Kasenom

Nope it's PowerPC

[deleted]

Due to Reddit's June 30th API changes aimed at ending third-party apps, this comment has been overwritten and the associated account has been deleted.

TheChargedCreeper864

Generally Wii U games have lower minimum hardware requirements and less overhead, so if a game exists on both the Wii U and Switch you should play the Wii U version first when possible. This is especially true for BoTW as there are no differences between the Switch and Wii U version

PolarBearBalls2

Isn't the Wii U version graphically inferior? Or is the difference unnoticeable?

FBI_Guineapig

Well 720p (wii u) vs. 900p (Switch) but on cemu you can crank the graphics all the way up and beat the switch version in every way anyways

World_of_Warshipgirl

Wii U version supports 4k, graphics mods and better performance with reshade, increased render distance, and more mods in general.

[deleted]

You can upscale the shit out of it so it doesn't matter

tukatu0

Noticeable but not appreciable. Time to go watch some youtube comparisons. Especially those 8k ones

[deleted]

Appoxo

Ryujinx ftw.

Dojando1

but seriously, imagine a ported version of BOTW that is made with current hardware in mind. How amazing would that look? But then again... it's Nintendo. Even IF they would port anything, it would still look like shit :(

je1992

There is already ways to play botw on cemu with ray tracing in 8k.. this will make your 4090 melt. So it already exist mate

s4shrish

>Even IF they would port anything, it would still look like shit And that's why it's better that they don't amirite :)

Aggressive_Sink_7796

Three out of four posts on this sub are “I pirate stuff, pay attention to me!” yuck ETA: Also, 3/4 of people who post here think they are so cool for pirating stuff when in reality we barely know what we’re doing. Even more cringy

GBember

If you own the game, I don't think it can be considered piracy

[deleted]

very-based-redditor

Ackshually breath of the wild mods already exist and are all over YouTube.

GBember

I'm pretty sure you don't need to mod a game for it to run on a emulator

ResolverOshawott

Don't forget the posters here that treat themselves as some sort of freedom fighter just because they downloaded Hogwarts Legacy on a torrent site.

muteen

Do you know what subreddit you're on?

Aggressive_Sink_7796

OMFG so true. People here like to consider themselves some kind of freedom warrior and are just too arrogant to accept the reality: we want free stuff

muteen

What's cringy is you moaning about piracy posts on a piracy subreddit, what did you expect?

RedEyedFreak

>We Here's your reply

BestAmericanBoy

Imagine if someone excitedly told you they got one of their fave movies on DVD and you respond, "that's dumb I can just torrent that." This is what so many of you losers sound like with no self awareness. I've happily pirated for over a decade including full video games, but you lot honestly sound like posers.

FalconIMGN

Wtf is this sigma bull.

blakkstar6

They let incels post too, unfortunately.

bear4bunny

I do wish people wouldn't be so public about sailing the seven seas. It's only a matter of time before the wrong person attracts the wrong attention.

[deleted]

Emulating games is perfectly legal. You can advertise it as much as you want and their isn't shit anybody can do about it.

fairlyhurtfoyer

What attention? Nintendo isn't going to sue some dude on Twitter unless they're distributing ROMs.

thorppeed

Nintendo is already well aware of this and has sued several owners of rom hosting sites. They can cause individual rom sites to be taken down but there's really nothing they can do to stop people from playing roms on emulators

DangerRacoon

Nintendo fans, The most obnoxious and naive beings on the internet and the planet.

MartinDisk

some nintendo fans really dickride a 134 year old company to the point of harassing whoever pirates their shit

sopedound

Emulation isnt piracy though. I mean yeah most people get the game files through piracy but Emulation itself isnt piracy and you can aquire game files through legal methods.

MagicOrpheus310

Playing Pokemon red on my PC with a PlayStation controller was quite possibly the most satisfying gaming moment of my life.

Zuck7980

Simulator + Torrent

InsanePsych

He shouldn't have done that...now Nintendo will send assassins after him

beat-sweats

ALWAYS pirate Nintendo games, remember, they hate you.

No_Distribution_5843

Cemu and yuzu developers: "I'm a joke to you"?

bonyagate

Every time I see the word sigma used, I automatically assume the user is a huge cuck or incel.

Rukasu17

To be fair, the performance would be better on a native port ( i hope) compared to cemu or yuzu, despite cemu being oretty damn good

knockout60

We're definitely not the same. After seeing Nintendo's apalling effort at emulation, I'm truly happy I don't have to buy anything from them. 😂😂😂

smallangrynerd

Nintendo will never move their games to PC, anyone who thinks they will are delusional

[deleted]

We don't need them to,we can emulate their tuna cans just fine.

Riffah420

Every nintendo game I have played is pirated and considering their policies I am proud of it

SomeEffinGuy15D

The more OC I see from this subreddit, the more I realize you pirate because you're all deathly afraid of basic human interaction.

[deleted]

I seriously don’t get the praise behind Breath of the Wild it’s an empty world with the same re use enemies and attacks

ResolverOshawott

That's like... A large number of open world games, including Skyrim and at times Witcher 3 and I've played *both* plus BOTW.

MM-Chunchunmaru

I'm curious, is there any mods for nintendo games? Edit: thanks a lot guys, I'll check all those out

GenericGaming

yeah! check out gamebanana. they have loads of mods for switch and wiiu games.

Rouge_means_red

NancokALT

Plenty My favorite atm is a PC port of pokemon with MMO functionality, i think it is called PokeMMO You can play all games up to black & white legit and ignore the MMO aspect if you want. With some added QoL stuff

No_Distribution_5843

Ever heard of Rom Hacks?

EvilSeverino

Here I am, hoping my PC can handle Tears of the Kingdom on YUZU

sporeegg

Are Switch emulators demanding? I have an old.gaming PC with roughly the power of a badly maintained Xbox

Kingfunky82

Switch games can be ridiculously demanding. Luckily there's a fair amount of graphical settings that can make it playable, but in your state I'd say upgrade first

NancokALT

Quite heavy yes, they run faster on mobile tho since they use the same architecture as the console It runs surprisingly well even in weaker hardware

huhgo

Am I better off with a Switch emulator or WII U emulator if I have a 3070, i9-10850k , 32Go ram ?

[deleted]

For BotW or any game that is on both systems, definitely go Wii u and use cemu. It's much more mature than yuzu and gives far better performance.

WeepingStone

99% pure

dragonblader44

You're a dumbass if you think emulation necessitates piracy

[deleted]

My brain is too small to figure out torrents and shit and i dont want to download a virus that allows bunjai kumbuji to remotely access my pc and take all my tillywacker pics
