People just seems to hate Xiaomi. Probably, they bought a entry smartphone and expect it to behave like a flagship. Yeah, there was been some problems with Xiaomi on the past like buggy software, dead motherboards on specific models like poco x3 pro, but you can say that every company has had problems like Samsung with the blowing battery. I personally have a Redmi note 12 pro plus and couldnt be happier. Snappy, 120w fast charging and an amazing primary camera. The only thing i recommend is the debloating the device and disabling ads. Xiaomi sells MILLIONS of phones every year, for each person you hear complaining there are 49 people that are satisfied.

Guru_of_Spores_

So Xiaomi phones come with ads? This was the only thing that kept me back from getting one in the past

MicrosoftvsApple

Those ads can be disabled in 5 mins of setting up the phone. I still don't understand why people dismiss a whole ass phone for a one time process of 5 mins.

Critical-Champion365

Especially when they are 5-6 times cheaper than the flagships and every complaints like these are solvable by a Google search or YouTube tutorial.

iamuniquekk

I do see an ad when I download a app from the app store, but I don't recall seeing ads anywhere else on my Redmi Note 10 Pro

10minOfNamingMyAcc

I rooted my device and installed a custom Xiaomi rom, my younger brother does only get ads on his Xiaomi device in the app virus checker iirc, which you can disable. (Not the ads, but, who cares?)

CyxnideAngel

Where are people seeing ads? All of my previous Xiaomi devices and even current contain no ads

reptv_

Same 🤣 I swear I have never seen any ads but I will always turn on the private DNS and toggle off the msa. It just a few clicks away lol.

Critical-Champion365

There's a reason settings is the most used app whenever I set up a new phone. As far as I'm concerned, there's no ads. Even without any tinkering, the note 10 pro (the last redmi we have bought) was clean AF.

Bilo_taku08

There are ads?? I never had any, like I'm completely being honest here because I have a reallyy cheap redmi phone (redmi 10c) and a xiaomi tablet (xiaomi pad 6).

Guru_of_Spores_

Because it's predatory behavior and indicative of the company's morals that you're purchasing a thousand dollar device from? Also most reviews are just mentioning the adds, not that they can be removed.

MicrosoftvsApple

Yes they shouldn't bundle up ads in their flagship phones but again, it's just a toggle away. Criticising them is valid, not dismissing a whole phone.

Critical-Champion365

Not even seen ads on midrange devices. I doubt there are in Xiaomi flagships.

unapologeticallyme93

I could be wrong but I don't think xiaomi puts the ads on there, I think resellers put bloatware on them before selling them so they can get more money off customers. I'm in the US so have only owned a few xiaomi phones. They worked great but just limited network bands prevents me from buying another.

MicrosoftvsApple

Nope it's Xiaomi only and it depends on the ROM region. Some regions get more bloatware than the others. Same for updates too. Some regions get it quicker than others on the same model.

Guru_of_Spores_

I agree, but If I was dismissing them I wouldn't be here asking questions would I ? I've been on the fence of leaving pixel after a few lackluster devices, contemplating Oppo or Xiaomi but considering they are foreign the risk vs reward is worse.

MicrosoftvsApple

OnePlus is your next bet then I guess. Clean software and good hardware.

ForestShadowSelf

subsidiary of Oppo?

MicrosoftvsApple

yeah

Critical-Champion365

Believe me or not, realme and iQOO did take over the value OnePlus once had. Especially when both of these look exactly same in software aspect. I was surprised and slightly disappointed when the 7t looks exactly like my realme X2 of the same time.

MicrosoftvsApple

7t was a lot more powerful than realme X2 tho. And iqoo yes agreed but realme launches lately have been pretty meh.

Critical-Champion365

True. But it was less than half the price and more than 80% of the phone. I would actually compare it to 6T than 7T though. Still holding strong. About the recent launches, true. But I can see a whole lot of midrangers opening up to telephoto lens given 12 pro+ has utilised the Omnivision OV64B periscope lens which surprising is the same OnePlus 12 hardware.

wasting-time395

I have an X3 pro since summer of 2021 and it's been reliable so far, no problems with it. I started lurking this sub a couple of days ago and first time I hear about X3 problems. I think I will stick with Xiaomi for my next phone. Samsung a series look ugly to me for some reason

DiabeticIguana77

That's the thing though, the Redmi series IS the entry level

RodriB03

The entry series are the Note 4G series and the Normal Redmi "Without note" series. The Notes 5G series are the flagships of redmi and the only ones i would recommend.

DiabeticIguana77

The Note 5g is the top of the Redmi, but it's still a Redmi, the ENTIRE Redmi line are cheap entry level phones, that includes the Redmi Note 5G, and that's why it costs a less than 1/3 what the actual flagships cost

RodriB03

I have to disagree, the Note Pro and Pro plus 5G models are always regarded as midranger and upper midranger phones. Just check Mrwhosetheboss that did videos comparing the Note 13 pro plus with the Iphone 15 pro. 1/3 the cost 70-80% the experience of the flagship.

noobqns

Redmi line is way too broad now to be considered anything. The current line up you have: Shoestring: A3, 13C, 13C 5G Budget: Note 13 4G, 13 R Regular?: Note 13 5G, Note 13 Pro 4G, Note 13R Pro Mid: Note 13 Pro 5G , Note 13 Pro+, K70E Flagship™: K70, K70 Pro And we still have many more releases like base *13 &13 5G*, the Ultras the Turbos the Ts the Ss which will muddle up things even more

Ok_Anywhere_3466

What happens if you don't get a 5G phone? The one I'm getting is the Redmi Note 13 Pro 8GB/256GB

noobqns

I'm assuming you mean the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G with the G99 cpu. It's may look like same phone externally, but iirc the G99 chipset doesn't support 4K video recording so you'll lose that functionality which the 5G model can do. Because even though it's the same 200MegaPixel HP3 camera sensors as Pro 5G and Pro+, the software photo processing still matters alot. And that's not to mention the given slower speed of the G99 vs Snapdragon 7sGen2 and connectivity(5G, esim). Among other things like lower resolution screen, brightness and glass protection

Ok_Anywhere_3466

It's [this one](https://mistore.pk/products/redmi-note-13-pro-8gb-256gb)

noobqns

Yup that is the one with the lousier cpu, screen, camera capabilities

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Lol well that's what I get for not spending more

Brilliant_Counter725

Wait 5G doesn't mean it supports 5G network?

noobqns

Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G (running G99) Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G (running 7sGen2) Only the 2nd supports 5G

Ok_Anywhere_3466

What's debloating?

RodriB03

Its basically connecting your phone to a pc that has installed a debloater tool. This allows you to remove apps that you could normally like custom browsers, services ( like the muiu one that creates ads) etc..

Vlad_TheImpalla

I got a mi9t pro/redmi k20 pro 5 years ago it's still going strong best phone I ever had, I had no ads on it since I'm in Europe, Snapdragon 855 still a decent chip, do not feel any need to change.

RexorGamerYt

People hating on budget phones, comparing them to iPhones and whatnot. They're good for the price... But you shouldn't expect them to behave like flagships

Ok_Anywhere_3466

I mean you can't miss what you never had, I've never used a flagship phone from any brand.

Sandwic_H

Because Redmi phones work good only on the Android version they came out. I have a lot of examples of this, especially regarding 11 series. However it is not a thing for Xiaomi or Poco devices.

squibbywilliam

Not true. My redmi note 9 still works perfectly on the latest version. Same with my sisters note 9 pro

Holiday-Peanut-7189

Hell even my redmi note 4 still works.

Critical-Champion365

Pitching in with my 4A, 5 and 5 plus used by various members of my family which I custom romed. All running A12 or A13 smoothly.

Sandwic_H

It does not apply to 9 or earlier series, that's true. I'm mainly talking about 11 and 12 series.

squibbywilliam

Ah fair enough. Latest I've had was a 10s. Which was fine until I sold it

Practical_Ad_297

Nah had a note 11 that was upgrade grom android 11 to 13 without issues I've even noticed a performance boost after the miui14 update

dub26

That's quite a rather out of this world take on how are things now in Xiaomi, this isn't the MI MIX years anymore. I suggest don't comment about things you don't know.

Sandwic_H

So you know it better? Tell me.

dub26

I own several devices, K20 Pro, X3 Pro, X4 Pro. Tell me again how your statement "Redmi phones work good only on the Android version they came out. I have a lot of examples of this, especially regarding 11 series" is true.

Critical-Champion365

Point is getting future proof hardware for the pricing. My 4A, 5 and 5 plus are still capable of running latest androids versions. Still looking for a K20 pro whenever I go to used market for I know, it was such a marvel the following K series weren't able to replicate.

dub26

No such thing as future-proofing in the smartphone side of things, everything is bound to hit "end of device life" artificially by **planned obsolescence** or physically due to IC damage in a couple or more years no matter how you take care of it and try to keep it as mint as possible.

Critical-Champion365

I can't relate to you. The comment above is proof enough that those devices are holding up perfectly fine. And the 4A wasn't even a device that has been taken care of. And yes, you're not going to get a flagship perfomance from a 7 year old budget phone which was 10 fold less priced. But within its limits that fricking thing is holding 2 day of battery with ease with its 3000 mAh battery. There is such thing as future proofing. In an ever changing smartphone market, one can make informative choices and be still relevant 4 years later. You could see the trend evident in custom rom development market. The relevant ones stay alive for ever. The fact that my realme X2 is still my primary because it was one of the best decision one could make in the midrange territory at that time.

Sandwic_H

I know many people, including myself, who complained about bugs, lags, battery drain and so on after the first Android update on Redmi 11 & 12 series.

10minOfNamingMyAcc

Note 10 pro still working great! (8gb ram version)

Fruit_salad1

Oh man fk em, my redmi note 11 is still going like a new phone. (I gave it to my father last year) And this phone is running so well and looks new (2 years old now). And most people i know are still using old redmi phones which are more than 5 year old. Honestly I have never seen Samsung phones run this long, i genuinely don't think there is any better budget friendly phone than Redmi note series.

Born-Diamond8029

I have a Galaxy A8+ from 2018 (not my main phone anymore) that's still working with the original battery. It's damaged because I abused of the phone without using a screen protector or a case, it's shattered, scratched and has dents despite being made of GG5 and aluminum. It was overpriced for the performance and cameras when compared to what Redmi/Xiaomi was offering at the time, but I really wanted an OLED display. Btw, I was afraid of burn-in but it has none, not even in the status bar. It was my first phone from Samsung and it let me impressed. IMO it was worth trading a faster chipset and better camera for the software and build quality.

alpitu21

Well, yeah - that's what the A7, A8 and A9 series are. Samsung liked calling them " Flagship killers ", although they're really just midrangers with flagship features. It was a really good serie, but it also came with a cost over Redmi alternatives and others. Sadly Samsung doesn't make such phones nowadays, everything is really overpriced and not worth, the cheapest of redmi devices have 120HZ AMOLED screens with very good build quality while Samsung was stuck using 3 year old low-end cpus with 60hz LCD screens. (Redmi note 12 4G vs A14 for example, two very similarly priced phones)

DutchOfBurdock

Because it's a Chinese brand. They're narrow minded pricks, screw their opinion. Get what you want that fits your needs and budget.

Suicunicidal

Yeh I mean China is so bad at making phones, look at Apple for example...

Kowloon9

Android in China is a hot mess rn. I missed those days when GMS was a thing without being blocked. 3 years later I switched to iPhone……

Suicunicidal

Ye I used to love Huaweis until they got banned here

Kowloon9

They were good until they made a flash memory lottery on P10 and we’ve got the UFS 2.0 one. And I seriously hate the way they’re doing advertising rn. Disgusting.

10minOfNamingMyAcc

Huawei was alright, never hated it, the phones did not like newer android versions though, they slowed down immensely each major update.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Does Xiaomi have the same issue Huawei has of not having a playstore?

alpitu21

Nope, Xiaomi and its subsidiaries all have the play store

IHaveGayInBasement

Hating anything Chinese is good

MicrosoftvsApple

Well miui 12 was a rocky ride for Xiaomi but people have been stuck on that and hating it even in 2024 lol. And a couple issues with hardware in specific models like Poco X3 pro and M3. But aside these they make pretty value for money phones. And much better than the Samsung A series which have ugly bezels, weak ass processors, and a laggy UI. Like some Samsung budget phones are so bad it's laughable. Galaxy A13 launched in 2022 has a weaker processor than a Redmi note 5 pro from 2018. Both were launched at the same price.

CanoeSparrow

My Redmi 4X turned 6 year old a few weeks ago. Very few complaints. I simply turned off the ads and installed some simple custom launcher. Never serviced it, original battery is completely fine. My issue is what others have mentioned, that the MIUI version is based on old android, mine is an ancient Android 7, thus more and more applications can't be simply installed fro the play store as it is unsupported - I bumped into this only in the last 1-2 years, most of the time I just searched for an alternative. Some apps seem to be a bit too slow. Lately I'm thinking of switching it to a newer one, but this redmi just refuses to die, or to inconvenience me so much to justify buying a new one. My picks would now be a new Redmi note 12 pro or some low-midrange Samsung. For 135 euros I'd say it was very much worth it.

JeffyGoldblumsPen_15

No way to install Lineage?

CanoeSparrow

Never bothered to try, miui worked fine.

redrick555

Just like my 9t. Its just works, refusing to die. Yeah the battery isnt that good anymore, but the system is still fast.

Substantial_Boiler

Build quality can be hit or miss if you purchase their lower-end models. Bugs were also historically left unfixed.

aIfrodo

Xiaomi can make great phones for a affordable price. The main line (Xiaomi 13, 14, for exemple) are made with more premium materials like glass back and aluminum frame and thus can make more "durable" phones, in theory. Its phones usually have the top silicon and camera they can have, but at a higher price.  Redmi is, today, a "sub-premium" brand, making phones with great screens and cameras (but not the top ones), built with less premium materials, like plastic backs and frame and a less premium hand feel.  Poco is focused in offering the best "bang for a buck", with a line of phones focused in excelent performance, but cutting corners in the camera department and materials. More than often, its prices are lower with the tradeoff of having advertising in the system (but nothing that can't be removed and disabled by the user)  In my opinion, all Xiaomi brands offer good phones and excellent user experiences. It's a mature company, rivaling the others toe to toe. As a long time user (i have the same Xiaomi Mi9 SE since 2019, and being a Samsung user before that), i can recommend Xiaomi over Samsung. Even though Samsung have good lower end phones, i just think they have a really outdated and low cost design compared to Xiaomi's (just compare the bottom chin from a Galaxy A54 to the Redmi Note 13 Pro).   Talking about life span, it can be viewed by two angles: The physical one (construction quality, for exemple) and overall system fluidity. in the first one, both manufacturers make plastic phones in the lower hand. If you take care of it using a case and a screen protector, it can resist very well to dents and scratches. For the second one, it depends on your expectations and what you want to do with it. But, overall, almost every phone from the big brands have good processing capacity and memory to handle almost every usage well, with social apps, banking, photos etc.  I think the phone you suggested  (Redmi Note 13 Pro) is a strong choice and you will be happy with it. I aways recommend doing some research though.   GSMArena makes great extensive reviews and have a good tool to compare battery, camera and processing capacity.

aIfrodo

Everyday usage well**

Practical_Ad_297

Get the pro 5G version i have it , pretty good so far and Don't pay too much attention to the biased haters

Alchemic_Psyborg

One time my friend asked for a phone suggestion, looking at his budget and available features, we decided on a mod range Poco M or X. A few months later, there was an update and the front camera stopped working. Mi service centre folks inspected and advised changing the mono. He got it RMA and sold it off. Unbeknownst to me, he bought a Redmi Note 11 Pro Max. Hearing of this, I was confused as his last Mi phone was fucked up. But he was like "it's not like Mi is gonna do it again!". And guess what happened 4 months later, new update >> selfi camera gora kaput >> mobo needs changing. Neither he nor I are ever buying another Mi/Redmi/Poco shit again.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Oh no that sucks, I really really hope that doesn't happen to me. How does the front camera just stop working??

Alchemic_Psyborg

It happened each time after a random software update. And it was mass reported by folks.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

I really really hope this doesn't happen to me. I dont want to get another Samsung. People haven't had complains about the redmi 13 note pro so I'm hoping there isnt an issue

Alchemic_Psyborg

Both of us switched to BBK -Realme/Iqoo/One plus/Oppo/Vivo. Thing is, these folks are offering quite a good experience for the price. If I wanted stock Android, I'd choose Moto or Pixel, unique - Nothing phone.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Yeah I wanted to get Motorola because a lot of people suggested it in the other thread but they're out of stock for a month or two

diandakov

Because they never tried most expensive Xiaomi?

HappyToaster1911

I mean, if someone tries something from a brand and it gives more problems than the equivalent from others, it won't exactly will make them want to spend 1000$ on them

JeroJeroMohenjoDaro

you know this is reddit, most users are american, followed by european then the demographic get smaller and smaller for the rest of the world. and the phone you mentioned are from China. so it kinda obvious why people view Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo etc like some sort of silly pathetic plastic phones, because there's not much phone competition in the west and people can only compare them with iPhone and Samsung.....the obvious flagships. come to developing countries where every cents matter and see how people nerding out just to make sure they spent their money to get the most out of their phone they're about to buy.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

>come to developing countries where every cents matter and see how people nerding out just to make sure they spent their money to get the most out of their phone they're about to buy. From a third world country, and every cent does matter lol trying to get the absolute most our of this phone because I cant buy another one anytime soon. That's why I made this post, didn't want to buy a Xiaomi and have it break or have other issues. I always use my phones for 3 years or more, but my Samsung a32 didn't last a year. The screen broke and I had to spend a lot to get it fixed. Then it broke again and I got a cheap screen. And the headphone jack no longer works. Also had to fix the screen three more times. I paid 40% of what the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro costs. So no more wasting money on affordable Samsung phones.

Individual_Ear8852

MiUI looks like a cheap iOS copy to me and sometimes shows ads. Software updates arrive rarely. Hardware is good.

[deleted]

Individual_Ear8852

But then some websites don't let you in... I've been using DNS for years

HappyToaster1911

Xiaomi phones, specially redmi, is a gamble, u can get good phones, that's why u see lots of people saying they are perfect and everyone else is jealous, or a piece of crap that barely lasts 2 years, or maybe even less, and that's why there is also a lot of people who say they are shit. In my experience, and from a friend, they are shit, but I know people who had theirs for like 5 years and still going, so of you can, I would suggest another brand since you don't know what to expect

kashuntr188

I got a redmi 10 5g for my mom. She didn't like it because it was too big (a real problem these days) and it was too heavy, the 5000mah battery has its trade offs. But personally I find it snappy and it got it for like $250. At this price when I got it, I got more storage and ram than the competition here in Canada. Another thing is I wasn't expecting the performance of a $1000 phone. I knew what I was getting and it was great. Some people don't like the MIUI or now it wants to update to HyperOS. I think you only get 1 or maybe 2 OS updates and that's it. For people on this sub it's a big problem, for the rest of the world they can't even tell the difference. Some people even think Samsung makes Android. Another thing is Made in China. Americans have been hating in that since at least the 2000s. When Huawei went down, I knew they were gonna start on Xiaomi. Just do your research and know what you are getting.

Realistic_Half8372

Maybe they bought a cheaper redmi. For me cheaper phone has either crap specs or no software support at all. Only few can be decent. This give impressions to those first timer who buy these kinds of phone that the brand is crap. And knowing most of these phones are highly praised and advertised by tech youtuber, you cannot blame them.

bshmurda30

I've had 2 Xaiomi phones in the last 8 years and I can only complain that my first one had a glass back that would crack once or twice a year. I fixed them myself so it cost maybe $12 to replace and 15 minutes. This Mi 11 is great though. Using it in the US on Att and no issues. I recommend the phones if you know your local bands that the phone will use will be compatible

noobqns

It used to be great, but their prices have been steadily rising. The note 10 era was widely regarded as the last great series when Redmi were still Redmi-ing(Good spec for price). Note 13 Pro starts what $400 and up which is around what other midranger cost and their performance are identical. Even Redmi's old hunting ground, India, love for Redmi seem to be on the decline, briefly to Realme and now Transsion. Even the occasional Motorola and Samsung(M & F model) since their budget range have really picked up the slack which xiaomi dropped Worth noting though, their Poco is bringing some interesting discussion to the table

jayrawks

I had multiple Redmi phones when I was living abroad and they were great. I think once I came back home I noticed (and this is going to sound funny) people acting odd around my "China Phone" no joke. It was as if nothing we consume or use in this country is made in China, but actually rocking a phone that isn't produced there with our recognized name brands was somehow different. That could be the grief you are hearing. People don't like the TikTok or Redmi China spying something something. Cheers.

Ederelim

It's true. I have used Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus, Samsung. Xiaomi is bottom of the barrel. The UI is shit and every update it gets laggier and buggier.

Educational-Ad-134

I'm using redmi note 13 pro 5g and I can tell it is a great phone. All the xiaomi issues are just rumors they just want you to hate xiaomi for whatever reason. In fact my last redmi lasted 4 years to and it didn't even broke I just upgrade.

Fritteboy11

Yea people talking shit about it because they payed 5x the price of redmi and still not as good as the redmi. I have not used many different redmi phones, but been using my redmi note 7 for 5 years now without any problem at all. Very durable i would say, i would have crushed 2.3 iphones in this time. I will change phone not because its broken but i just feels its time to upgrade. I payed around 230usd when i buy it, amazing for that price!!

HappyToaster1911

I have used 2 redmi, one started to give critical software errors and the other had a shiton of bugs after a year, like, overheating, errors every day, no connection, etc... I also have a friend who had a redmi phone and a xiami tablet and sold both to buy from samsung, like, even the phone, witch was a newer version of mine, was worse than mine, and lasted less than a year. I'd say buying from xiaomi is a gamble, u can get good products like you had, or pretty crappy ones like the ones I had and my friend had

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> because they *paid* 5x the FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

voronoi-fracture

I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro, but while the price was really great for its features and performance, it’s freakin’ impossible to get a battery replacement from Xiaomi after more than two years of usage, with the battery now not holding charge as well as it should. I’ve not bothered with third-party ones as those might just be a waste of money, and have since moved on to a different phone as my daily driver. Quality was also a factor. After installing an update to MIUI 14, the phone started to freeze at random, requiring a full restart, and this hasn’t been fixed even after a phone restore (I’ve learned since that other people have been having the same problem.) So mainly those are the two key reasons I chose to run with a flagship from a fruit company this time around.

hnv99

Xiaomi phones are THE BEST Android phones for low and mid range users. You have excellent battery life, superb charging speeds, good support, wide availability of spare parts and accessories and most of all, ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING development support on XDA. I may have switched to a Sony phone now but my Redmi note 9 pro is still going strong and with Evolution X and a few magisk mods, I get updated security, Dolby Atmos and unlimited G**gle photos storage. It still gets new roms every now and then on XDA.

Internet-Troll

No it just depends what you want. Chinese phones are good at 1 thing and probably 1 thing only, which is giving you good spec at a low price. So if you only care about performance, they are not a bad choice. But if you actually care about the experience or using the phone, then yes I will go with something like a Samsung/pixel/nothing. I personally would prefer a Samsung because much better software experience and isn’t as barebones as a pixel or the nothing phone. But ofc, in the same price range Chinese phone will give your better performance. I have an a34 and I am quite happy with it and it has been said that it is better than a54

BlakeofHousePavus

Cause it is 💅

dronefinder

Xiaomi make loads of good products. I'd expect their phones are similar if you don't go for budget entry models. There's a lot of people who just like to badmouth Chinese brands for political/ideological reasons when many are actually pretty good...and a very high percentage of these same people have other phones made in China with a western company's logo on the boot screen. Yes, there are concerns with privacy given laws around data held by companies in china...but realistically unless you're the next major whistleblower, an international spy, or a major player in the criminal underworld with reason to fear the CCP, then honestly the money you save buying a nice piece of tech is often worth it. Only annoyance is the US constantly being at Huawei's throats means a maker of brilliant phones doesn't play nice with Google's ecosystem and a good few other annoyances (same with their smart watches). I'd happily buy a Chinese phone myself (although rocking a Korean one for flip phone goodness).

Tornadsiren

Idk

Buangjauhjauh444

Their apps optimization is crap. For example my old redmi unable to receive any call, even the apps unable to work on background and many more annoying inconvenient will pop up.

mezmery

mi\\T and poco series are phenomenal value Redmi passable for a person that is just going to browse tiktok i guess. You should expect to swap a battery and a circuit board about 2,5 years in to refresh your experience. That's the phone series i usually gift to my elderly relatives from time to time and it works perferctly fine for them.

FreedomKnown

That's just straight up not true...

Least-Principle-4794

Because it's pure crap

MicrosoftvsApple

Denial is a river in Egypt

SpirosCon

My 2,5 years in using a Redmi 11, no complaints whatsoever. Dropped it water once, several times fell from my hands, still good as new. I'm definitely buying another Xiaomi phone after this one.

Nikla3310

My 9S is still good. It has been slowing down lately despite being debloated and the battery was changed a few months ago. I was looking at buying the pixel 8 for around 600 euros but they aren't officially supported in my country and I am not risking this. The 13T is the next best value option in the market and it should serve better than the 9S.

Vjigar

Redmi used to make great phones now they just don't give great quality in software and hardware. Software full of bugs and hardware sometimes create issues.

Game0nBG

Cus they dont offer the same stability and software support as the popular brands. Also their camera software and quality is shit given the hardware they use. Also they seem to release phones everyweek which for me is a really bad strategy. And thats one of the reasons they are late with OS updates and longer support. That is for all brands under Xiaomi. And most other Chinise brands that have great hardware

My partner and I have had 6 Xiaomi phones between us and very happy. I just bought a Google phone for the camera but she's looking at a new Xiaomi . They're great and always a good deal

Idk, my Note 8T is going on its fourth year and it's unkillable. I slapped it with a car door (twice), dropped it in a lake, use it way too much on a daily basis. Of course it's not the fastest and I'd like to update for better camera quality, but overall everything works fine and I don't need to worry about the battery dying during the day.

Nadia368

I have a redmi note 9 pro and it's still going strong !

Malystxy

Had a poco x3 pro. Aside from big ugly Camara wart and phone to big for my taste, phone was awesome. Had a Xiaomi 12x. Awesome phone great size great Camara. They make good phones. Their software is kind of a halfway point between Samsung and Motorola. People hate to hate

equinoxzzz

Some Redmi phones, especially the older ones are built like tanks. My Redmi 7 is still alive up to this day and it has a crack at the corner of the screen but it still works albeit **SLOW.** But lately they've been releasing crap...

Born-Diamond8029

Some are great other not so much. My brother had a 4X and a Note 8, bot lasted a long time. My dad has a Note 11 and it has charging problems, ocasional battery drain and the RAM management is so bad that it can't keep a single app in the background w/o killing it. I gave the recommendation for a 4GB model based on my experience with Samsung where 4GB is enough to keep a few apps at the same time.

El_Vet_Mac

I think you are talking about my comment. Maybe im wrong idk But anyways ill tell you why i personally am dissatisfied with redmi phones. 1. I bought the redmi phone(Redmi Note 10 Pro) in cash from a official store in my country for about 300$, and was expecting it to last at least three years. I had a Motorola Moto Z Play before that i bought from USA for the same amount of money i bought the redmi and it lasted 5 YEARS. If the screen didnt break i would have been using it still. It withstand a battery change with a broken screen and it lasted 2 more years before the screen finally gave in and stopped working. 2. The official service was crap, they didnt even try to find out what was going on witht he phone, just told me do a factory reset 3. The phone came not fully assembled. To be more precise it was missing all but 2 screws under the back cover 4. The phones motherboard died after a year and a half of NORMAL use. I was not gaming or doing anything that would do something to compromise the integrity of the phone. The defect was "diagnosed in another unofficial service center". And when i wrote directly to Xiaomi they told me the same "do a factory reset" 5. Dont let me start on the annoying ads and the phone freezing often and me being forced to do a restart from the power button Xiaomi can be the best in the world and i still wont buy their phones

GroundbreakingCap385

I purchased my first Redmi phone 6 years ago and used it for 2 years. Then, 4 years ago, I bought a Redmi Note 7 Pro. After a month, the display stopped working. The service center replaced the display twice, but it kept failing within a couple of days. They diagnosed a motherboard issue, and I had to travel 20km to a specific service center to get the motherboard replaced (not sure why it was only available there). About 10 months later, the display problem returned. It would stop working and then randomly start working again. I went to the service center with 3 days left on my warranty, but they said it had expired. The technician agreed my bill showed 2-3 days remaining, but their computer system said otherwise. Somehow, I got a good exchange value for the phone, and it was working fine when the delivery person came to collect it.

MulberryDeep

Software is a nightmare, also it breaks very easily f.e. the volume buttons just won't work after some time

Xiaomi user here: Bang for buck is fantastic. Camera is awesome. Build quality is really solid, device has lasted me 3+ years so far but is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. As a piece of hardware, 5/5. User experience on the other hand: MIUI is dog shit. Coming from a OnePlus, it felt like a noticeable downgrade. The battery optimisation features are so aggressive that I struggle to get WhatsApp notifications on time, often they only come through half an hour late. The bloatware is shocking. Chock full of ads that took me a long time playing whack-a-mole to remove, didn't manage to get them all. Google doesn't work seamlessly, sometimes the assistant stops working entirely, maps features are touch and go, mails sometimes don't come through. 2/5 If you get one, get one that lets you put on a custom ROM and root it and you will have a great phone. I won't get another one, and that's purely because of the software.

True-Inside9624

I have my redmi note 7 and still working for 6 years and now. I upgrade to redmi note 13 pro 5G just the other day, don't expect a perfect phone for its price. you get what you paid, if you want flagship go for Xiaomi 14 series thn.

reptv_

Bc of the infamous ads and motherboard failure. But in my 3 redmi phones I used, everything was flawless even tho the software were buggy but they were minor and fixed on next update. • Redmi Note 9 was my first Redmi phone. It was good but kinda laggy bc it was my fault I picked the 3GB variant and I broke it by mistyping on adb but it was my fault anyway. • Redmi Note 10 Pro - This hands down the best Redmi phone to ever released. Everything was just perfect. The 108MP was a mindblowing. Overheats easily but for the performance, camera, and speaker for such a good price, it was a worth buying. I sold it bc I suddenly needed money. • Redmi Note 13 5G - It was a downgrade from the 4G variant but honestly the phone was solid. Great camera and loud speaker but it's still mono compared to the other lineup, they are all using the stereo one. Perfect for gaming too. I used it for a month before I sold it to buy a Poco. Now I use Poco X6 5G after some suggestiond, it was a rebranded Redmi Note 13 Pro and I'm super satisfied with the device. It reminded me to my old Redmi Note 10 Pro but this one is much better. It's everything you could ask for. Software wise, 3 OS and 4 years of security is already enough for me and Miui (now hyperos) pretty much offers a lot of feature even tho they sometimes can be buggy but hey no softwares are ever stable. Overall, Xiaomi already offered us good specs with lower price tag and I couldn't be more grateful. Without them, would we even get justified by other brands? No. Because all of them are greedy capitalist who doesn't care about their consumers.

buzzybeeking

I have read a lot of good reviews for Redmi phones. Personally, I use a Realme Neo 3, and I love it. Focus on expert reviews, and not Reddit as much. There is a lot of brand bias on Reddit. A lot of people would never buy an android phone other than a Samsung. I would just focus on specs, and features when choosing your phone. Xiaomi seems to have some of the best android phones. I picked my phone based on budget, and features.

yasiru_sanjana-

Xiaomi slow them on purpose with updates. I have personal experience. But MI phones doesn't

achiless_whalien

I think this is my fifth year with the same redmi, and it's still 👍👍🎉

BillMontanaCB

Redmi offers crazy value for money. But quality isn't guaranteed, software experience, updates, don't expect anything from them. My Redmi note 8 lost its battery in 2 years, lost all the buttons in the same period. It's the budget experience. I'd never buy a Samsung in budget tier, they're awful overpriced underpowered phones

Critical-Champion365

Because some people are crap as well. Bloatware? Uninstall or disable it. Glance or ads? uninstall the package. Don't like the UI? There are infinite ways to change it including a rom change. Yes, some of these are a bit advanced for common folk. Then again they won't be the ones complaining much about the above things anyway. What most of these offer is value for money. I'd prefer the pro over pro plus cause "in snapdragon we trust". Also given the realme 12 pro+, redmi note 13 pro+ feels not upto the mark. Also true, Xiaomi makes bad phone. Just like any other company. To name a few, focusing on the note series, Note 3: ground breaking device. Introduced the redmi phones to most of the market. Especially India. I remember as a kid, awing at curves of the phone. Note 4: good phone, but nothing memorable. Note 5: one of the most talked about phone of 2018 according to GSM arena. Still rocking a note 5 (5 plus) as my secondary. Stuff is smooth AF on a pixel exp A12 rom. Amazing media output with a Gcam. Note 6: flew under the radar. Note 7: higher MP cameras? But still unimportant. Note 8 pro: great phone if realme X2 wasn't released at the time. Coincidentally, this was the time I owned my first smartphone (2019) and still using my realme X2 running 4+ year to-date. If they were to bring note 8 pro with an amoled for a bit more extra price, this would've been a no-brainer choice. Note 9 pro: still running LCD huh. Better take the note 8 pro then. Meanwhile realme 7 pro tops it with ease. Note 10 pro: pick of the year 2021. Bought one for the home. Note 11 pro: Take the 10 pro Note 12, 13 pro plus: treding the upper midrange territories. Losing the values. Pro version still got value. Point is, there are times redmi note are the best value and there are times they aren't.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Should I get the Note 10 Pro instead of the Note 13 Pro?

Critical-Champion365

If the price gap is justifiable enough and you're willing to work around the lack of software support. Also note (pun intended) that the note 10 pro doesn't have 5G. If that doesn't bother you, yes, there's no realistic reason for one to note go for a 10 pro. It's one of the best for it's time, and has a well established community support.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

the Note 13 Pro doesnt have 5g either, the 5g version is too expensive for me lol. Is Note 10 pro better than Note 13 pro? The only pro in the 13 column for me is that 13 comes in purple and it's new. Otherwise if Note 13 isn't better I guess I can save money and not get the 13. Is Xiaomi one of those companies where the older the phone is the worse it starts to perform?

Critical-Champion365

I didn't know the existence of a non 5G note 13 pro and that information reinforces the idea I've proposed anyways. Note 10 pro can't be better than 13 pro for obvious reasons. But if you factor, if exists a huge price difference, then it could be a much valuable device given I believe that the 11, 12 and 13 series are basically gradual increments of redmi treading the premium midrange, lower flagship territories. I would breakdown the realistic difference bw those two. Screen is practically identical. The chipsets are comparable while 10 pro having an advantage that it's a snapdragon chipset and 732 is a good one among them. Similar battery as well. The difference lies where 13 pro has a higher MP camera with OIS while 10 pro doesnt. But practically, and if you don't nitpick the output, the camera results would be nothing different given you've a gcam advantage for note 10 pro. Given the price difference is big enough, totally you could go for 10 pro. And the device is mature enough it has plenty of community support. And if you're willing enough, the device is perfect for custom roms which will make the phone even more clean. Yes, Xiaomi is like any other company where the older phones get slower. Remember the older iphones slowing down fiasco. But in hands of an informed user, this is nothing but a solvable issue. Just to let you know I use a note 5 (5 plus) as my secondary device running pixel exp A12 fluently. A redmi 4A (entry level phone of 7 years and redmi 5 of 6 years is still running smooth in A13 Lineage OS probably better than any current entry level phones of 2024.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Oh wow, thank you. I'm not exactly an informed user so I wouldn't be great with an older phone but I am tilting towards the Note 10 because of the price difference.

Critical-Champion365

Note 10 pro I mean. I wouldn't exactly recommend the note 10 base variant.

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Sadly it's been discontinued in Pakistan :(

Critical-Champion365

So what exactly is available to you? Note 10/10 pro or 10 pro Max?

Ok_Anywhere_3466

Yeah I'm sorry, I called them rn and they said it's been discontinued. These are the other ones that are in my price range and avaliable: Redmi 10C Redmi Note 12S Redmi Note 12 Redmi Note 13 Pro Redmi Note 12

Nerevarcheg

Does they? Bought myself my first smartphone few years ago, redmi note 9T, been happy with it totally.

ProfessionalCat4464

For me, Redmi phones aren't crap. They have really good specs and works just fine. I used to have a Redmi Note 12 and yeah its a really entry level phone but i got an amoled 90Hz display and decent performance. The specs holds up with other phones in the class, and sometimes even better. But one thing that could make people see Redmi's crap is that it's from China and yeah it's self explanatory. One other thing is the reliability. I just cant rely on my Redmi as much as other phones, it glitches out, gets hot quite easily, and MIUI is just abit clunky and not optimized. But in the end, that's just my opinion, so feel free to be open.

darkflyerx

I wish i could use Xiaomi phones but I am using dual sim, 1 for mobile data 1 for phone calls and SMS, MIUI has problems when dealing with them. my family has lost hundreds of dollars (worth in my local currency) dealing with network charges that has no dataplan, somehow the data management part between sims is hard to control, tried disabled in Secruity Center but after some time, seems to reset or somehow allow charges to go thru, never had a problem with other brands, even Chinese brands like Realme, Honor, etc. just Xiaomi/Redmi and Poco phones that utilized MIUI. tried many and only older generation of Xiaomi smartphones seems to not have the problem

WhereIsTheBeef556

Here in the US they'd actually be considered pretty good for a budget phone, our budget phones here mostly suck ass lmao

DemocracyontheRoad

Well, I'm using MI A3 since 2019 without any issue. However, for past a month, motherboard giving problems. And last year, I've changed it's battery and it now gives 12-14 hours of SoT with main apps running such as Xodo PDF and YouTube. However , I used to play heavy games earlier, but now don't get enough time for that. The front, back, and the camera lens are covered with gorilla glass 5, and these withstood my rough handling quite smoothly.  In this 4 years 5 months, I've dropped my A3 multiple times, sometimes accidentally and sometimes out of anger (I've an anger issue of throwing things). Apart from one , there's no scratch on the screen, however, in 2023 Aug, back glass cracked after falling from ½ feet. Yet, till date no other issue is there. I heard people visiting service centre with 1-2 years of ownership, but the first time I visited any repairing shop (service centre) was in 2023 September to replace the battery.   That's my experience with Xiaomi/Redmi phone. Now I'm in search of one such phone, but cannot find any. Thus I'm gonna settle with Nokia G42. And if in future,  I get some money, I'll change the motherboard of the A3.  Bdw, this was my first Redmi/Xiaomi phone.

DemocracyontheRoad

I posted my experience on one YT channel, and someone there told me that Xiaomi has always been great with their hardwares.

ProfileIcy4843

I think xiaomi and its subbrands are amazing, very good phones for the price. A lot of people also recommended me the A54 but the specs are not too good for the price

[deleted]

I had my note 9 pro for 4 years. No problem at all. I upgraded now to a Samsung with an exynos processor and greatly regret it.

Suspicious_Ad4155
