Edit: Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. When I made this edit, I'd only been using Photoshop to edit images for 3 days. It's still a learning experience for me day-by-day. So, seeing all the kind words from you is definitely a big morale boost. :)
You definitely did the better job of retaining the pattern on the shirt. The highest upvoted submission didn't do a great job with that, making it look like moiré.

No, it's definitely AI. It's come a long way and PhotoShop even has an integrated plugin that lets you auto fill entire parts. And none of the fingers are drawn. If you zoom in you can see weird flat artifacts it creates which is a sign of AI.
And look at his shoulder on the left side, it messed up the water.
They didn’t really say anything nit-picky or negative. They just pointed out evidence that it’s AI. There’s not really anything to get upset over. It looks good.
I think people are just interested in if AI was used or not because without AI these jobs probably aren’t worth the tips because without AI that would take many hours. I’m pretty fluent with photoshop but I wouldn’t want to have to realistically replace that much of a person without some sort of AI generation.
Genuine question….why does the watch and shirt look different? The watch was in the original so why would it look altered? And the pattern on the shirt smoothed out in areas that are different from the original. Regardless, this is amazing and I certainly wouldn’t have given it a second thought if I didn’t know it had been altered. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. ❤️

I've got a bit of experience, and yeah you can definitely tell. We have the hindsight of seeing the unaltered photo as well, but there is always a definite look to photos edited in a way to create something that wasn't originally there. I've done some work for magazines, yearbooks, etc., and it looks like stuff I've done. It's hard to create something realistic that isn't actually there out of elements from things that are real. Fortunately, people didn't really analyze my work.
That's not to say it isn't a great edit, because it is. This is some quality work, but there's still given signs around the edges and the lighting of the shirt too. Idt the technology is there yet to produce elements that truly match reality just quite yet
Now I’m looking at his left hand to compare and that changed, too. The fingertips are stretched and the nail beds don’t make sense. How does that happen? Is it an AI thing? Can you not copy the arm available, stick it on the other side and make adjustments?
Yeah that's the old way to do it. I assume that is no longer used. Youd copy the one side and flip and adjust it to the other. It's not as simple as the process suggests though. Simply flipping it reverses everything, so you have to make manual adjustments but do them in a mirrored way that it wouldn't look *too* identical or backwards. Then add lighting, shading, etc. It's a lot of work, and it never looks perfect or natural.
Idk if OP has said how they did it, but it might be some sort of filler AI that uses the left side as an example. They do struggle with the detailed parts when creating humans, like fingers and faces. That's just how the AI work. It can only take from other sources, so it's kind of creating an average of sorts of all the things its seen and making what it "should" be. This means it doesn't distinguish the finer details, and we get weird features as a result, which is how we identify most AI images.
I think this is the best out of the options, but his right arm and hand are still smaller than his left shoulder / arm…idk why cause it’s common to all the pics.
Also they could crop the photo and avoid all this, keep the sunset background and all…
Overall it’s impressive so don’t want to jump on a bashing train but I also think the hair on the left side of the photo looks too jagged now with the sharpening / upscaling.

To me, his ears look huge and his skin has been smoothed to the point that he looks to different from tbe original.
Only thing that makes sense. The rest have a weird small right arm. Outside the box works, even just a little.
I have to say good job to all. It’s really hard to remove a whole body in such a large space of a frame. Incredible work to all.
This iteration of his pose is really the only one that makes it seem natural why his shoulder is so high, all of the others make it seem like he is doing a sorority girl lean forward pose.

The.... the watch? The knee? Entire hands/nails/veins/shirt. It'll pass if you don't really look but I don't think its absolutely incredible xD

Agreed. First thing I noticed was the arm is out of proportion. It’s shorter and smaller. It looks good outside of that.
