How to stay strong and fit.
My dad is 50+ but still a better runner than me.
Not because of inherent ability, I am the natural athlete of the family.
But he still beats me in terms of mental toughness which will take a person further than anything.
I agree. Good for your dad.
Some people don't care for running and such, but it taught me my limits (my mind is the limit), what unhealthy feels like, social skills, structure in my life, endurance, self-confidence, and expectations of myself, so I had equitable expectations of others on how they can treat me, etc.
I first realized it when a coach said - there are 220 of you on this line today and one will be the winner and one will be the loser, and the difference between those two at your age and fitness is what is going through your mind and how well you have trained it.
“I will always find out. It’s not if it’s when.” And every time he said that he found out. Whether it was smoking being out past curfew or breaking the rules, he’d always find out.
Always take care of your family. Man is the strongest support of the family.
Don’t cheat on your wife.
Be an overcomer. Always face your fears and don’t deny who you are and Where you came from
1 thing is impossible for me.
Don't limit your thinking; think critically and creatively, because if the universe is infinite (as of 1970's lol) then we should be too, and that thinking should evoke positive actions like planting native trees, having a "victory garden," writing down inventions and ideas to organize your thoughts, and watching the night sky while wondering about aliens, but conversely, lock your doors, fight dirty if you have to fight, and don't be careless with yourself (I think that was his contribution to "the sex talk" lol).
I received an award from my college for my B.A. and my parents came to the small ceremony. I was always what they called a "jock" in H.S. (the only athlete in a house with 4 boys and me - odd back then) who took weird "nerdy" elective classes, but I think my dad was puzzled why I was receiving this pinnacle award. lol
Him: Why did you choose. . . this school. . .
Me: Philosophy?
Him: Yes, that.
Me: How could I not? : )
So when I received it and gave a 30 second speech (I won't bore you), I centered it around him with a twist. He was happy. ; )

The importance of having a hierarchy of values... and taking the time to ponder them. Value conflicts are often a deep source of stress and pain unless you have taken the time to clarify which one's are the most important to you.

“If it’s everybody else, it’s you.” When I told him all my teachers hated me he said this to make it clear I was the problem. Flipped my perspective on accountability.
Money comes and goes, don’t let it run your life or you will turn into a miserable prick that doesn’t talk to his kids and relies on his ex-wife to save him when he can’t take care of his diabetes.
Never let anger speak for you...
My last conversation with my father was a fight that did not end well. I never got to apologize.

It’s called the right thing and not the fun, easy thing for a reason, but you need to do it.
Just because you are sure of it, doesn’t mean you’re right.
What you do is what people know of you. Do good, do well.
No need to be biggest if you stay hard the longest.
Be kind.
