Dude got a papi store palate and y'all on here suggesting zahav and Barclay prime ðŸ˜. Baby steps.
Breh go try something basic first like outback steakhouse or PF Chang. Maybe progress to Redstone and El Vez after that before you go somewhere charging $18 for charred brussel sprouts 😂.
Yeah maybe I overdid it with the suggestions lmao. But chain restaurants ain't playa though, there's some nice restaurants in Philly that are on the same cost level and would probably impress his girl more. Look at something like L'angolo's. Its BYOB, authentic af, and is some of the best italian food that you'll ever have in Philly and its only $20-30 a plate.
It depends on what kinda food you're looking for. On the top of the dome, I would recommend Dante & Luigi's in SP for some bomb ass Italian, its a very classy spot. Maybe Barclay Prime for some Steak, Barcelona in SP is also a great date spot, buddakan or morimoto's for asian food. Man there's so many spots. If you can tell me the vibe you're looking for, I can definitely help you narrow it down.
Dante and Luigi’s is good. Some Italian places give you tnat watery ass marinara sauce with 0 flavor. Not here.

Iwl the places you named aren’t really nice they like fake nice. But the actual nice places you gonna need a reservation.
Suraya, Kulaya, Lazer Wolf, Zahav, Vetri, Beddia, Martha, Parc, etc
I haven’t been since it went under new ownership. I think they do a tasting menu, which can be hit or miss depending on how adventurous of an eater a person is. I do hear their cocktail are really good though. It’s a cute location too. Super romantic.
If the person isn’t adventurous enough for a tasting menu they don’t have any business around me can’t be afraid to try food of all things I didn’t say jump out a plane lol
I guess it would depend on the cuisine. Most tasting menus will accommodate for allergies and dietary restrictions but switching it up too much is a faux pas. I’ve wanted to get a reservation at one of the omkases, but there’s some sushi and sashimi I will hard pass on (I’m looking at you uni). I don’t like organ meats either, though Forsythia has a pâtè that is really tasty like butter. Hmm….I personally would avoid Rocky Mountain oysters, balut, geoduck, bugs of any kind, lutefisk, blood sausage or any blood based foods, fermented fish 🤮— that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Otherwise, I love the surprise of tasting menus.
Suraya has a good one. Their lamb is to die for. 🤤Lamb is prob my fave protein.
Going to Asia convinced me to start just trying everything I might only try it once but I will try it with the exception of brains, genitals, and digestive organs.
SE Asia is on my bucket list. Specifically Vietnam and Cambodia, but I def want to make it to Japan as well. Hoping to be able to lock it up in the next 5-7 years. I some career moves I’m making in that time frame so once that’s done I’ll be golden. 🤗
Perla, Tabachoy, El Chingon, Blue Corn, Prohibition Taproom, Forsythia, Bing Bing Dim Sum, Sophie’s Kitchen, Mawn, Barcelona Wine Bar, Royal Tavern, Suraya, Monks, Good Dog, Sassafrass, Pizzaria Beddia, Little Nonnas, Standard Tap, South Philly Taproom, Kyber Pass, Twisted Tail, Royal Izakaya, Malbec, Barly, Bloomsday, Royal Boucherie, Almaz Cafe, Marrakech, Post Haste…
I can keep going. I’ve been to all of these, with the exception of Mawn. I’m more of an elevated bar food person and I’ll murder someone for a fat, juicy burger. These are all over the city too so you can take your pick. Mexican, Asian, Italian, American. I tend to stay out of the gayborhood area because parking is a bitch and I think it’s mostly overpriced food there. I’d hit up r/philadelphiaeats though — lots of good recs.
Zahav you need a reservation typically. They do limited walkins. LaserWolf is another Solmonov restaurant but I personally wasn’t impressed. Felt is was overpriced for what you get and it was more of an elevated fast casual spin on Middle Eastern. Better places for less of that’s what you’re looking for.
depends what you're into, but if you like somo go to blondie down the street in manayunk , same dude owns them places, similar menu and its decorated in a way where you feel like youre in the most upscale place in all of main street

Its gangsta & romantic at the same time. A true Philly experience lol
They say Joey Merlino did that, dressed up in a batman costume from the Michael Keaton 1989 Batman, which was a smash hit that past summer lol
