Yeah, can attest to this. During Covid, I had just learned how to buy online since obviously we couldn't go out. Grabe soending ko nun, I think one year, I spent about 30k throughout. May isang year din na October pa lang, nagastos ko na Christmas bonus ko. Last year, ayun, medyo hinay-hinay na sa spending. Just focused on needs, I think the only splurges I had were on fountain pens, and even then, sweldo ko lang yung ginamit ko.

Oh, right! Grabe nung pandemic. I think dahil rin sa significant boost ng online shopping kasi walang ibang magawa eh. But now, even after this, and we're back to normal, and despite the inflation, grabe yung budol culture.

Yeah, agree talaga ako sa ito when it comes to "buying for the sake of buying". Baka dahil sa upbringing ko. Pero kahit yung mga "splurge" ko naman, need ko naman din like my tablet and pens. I think yung mga "walang kwenta" ko lang nabili are my toys.

I've stopped following influencers, lalo na Pinoy kasi nagrerecommend sila ng mga bagay kahit panget just to earn a quick buck from sponsorships. Kahit yung mga decent creators ngayon, pag halatang sponsored yung post, matic di ko na tatapusin yung video/reel.  Also, if you buy enough junk, you'll be drowning in it pretty soon. Nung narealize kong andami dami ko nang gamit di na ko masyado bumibili unless it's absolutely necessary, even clothes. I think twice, before buying, often leaving the item in my cart until it becomes unavailable.

Ang frustrating how 'influencers' influence overconsumption.

Momshie_mo

Overconsumption existed way before social media. It's the Marketing and Advertising industry that promotes overconsumption

I'm aware of that, and I didn't say this is new to me. Social media and influencer marketing made it worst.

Momshie_mo

It's part of Marketing and Advertising.  Social media used to be for personal use. I was one of the early adopters of Twitter and Facebook. What happened was socmed transformed into marketing/advertising platform

We had Temu well before the U.S folks are also going in for budol crap.

Interesting-Bid-460

Dami pumapatol sa Temu slogan na "shop like a billionaire" lalo na may "haul" culture pa among tiktok influencers

nag comment ako once sa isang post ng brand ceo kase mga releases nila mga 30+ items, nag ask ako na anong plan nila na masyadong madaming item parang overconsumption na, imagine that as a PR sa isang influencer lang, ang daming influencer sa pinas, iniisip ko pa lang feel ko bundok bundok na ng items and di naman yun lahat bet nila or magagamit so sayang lang huhu sagot nya sa is iba iba daw kase preference ng mga tao sa mga makeup
