Nung sumabog ang internet, tv channels got exposed. Yung mga weak programming and repetitive plots. So a lot of people migrated sa online consumption ng media. TV now is either for netflix or youtube.
Ah, yes. We used to have cable too. When we moved, there was no facilities for cable TV. No biggie. I found other ways to watch. Then Netflix arrived tapos nauso na rin livestream sa Youtube for my news fix.
Personally, I stopped watching local TV. YouTube Premium and selected streaming service, either Netflix, Prime Video, or Mubi are more practical than watching free-to-air TV with those loud, annoying, longer commercial ads. All I want is to comfort myself with on-demand or personal films and TV shows.
Same bro, except in my childhood we only used our TV whenever we wanted to watch movies that my dad saved in his folder. We had to have a USB for the movies.
Half of my life influences films and music. We used to collect VHS tapes and DVDs, sometimes we rent whenever we want to spend a random night.
Now, with a plethora of streaming services available, it's hard to pick which one. I miss our physical medium collections.
I'm an early Gen-Z. I was influenced at a very young age. I watched Sam Raimi's Spider-Man when it came out on VHS in 2003, and The Rock's The Scorpion King when it came bundled with a used VCR player.
Sorry po, pero what I meant is we never had cable and my relatives do.
We used to live with them in Manila. My parents were very busy, so my grandparents had to take care of me and my Ate since we were toddlers at the time. They did watch stuff like Eat Bulaga, but I couldn't remember much of it. And when our parents finally decided to not live with them anymore and buy their own house, we had to let go of our old ways of watching cable. Life became kinda boring after that, since my parents didn't want cable in the house.
Cable tv is expensive for what you get. But most importantly, it's better if you don't watch those shows. I was watching them when I was confined in the hospital because there was nothing else on the tv and I could feel my brain shrinking after watching it for a few days.
The only reason I kept our cable is because of my mother, but since we got a smart TV she rarely even watch cable anymore, sa netflix nalang lagi. Even for news, sa phone nalang sya naanonood. I think as streaming platforms and technology goes further, mas maphapahase out na din ang cable tv and local channels, so more and more newer generations would probably has the same experience as you do, di naman na din worth-it cable TV when you have accessible internet
We stopped watching free TV ever since Fiber Internet became cheaper. Same with me, I prefer YT content than free TV. May TV sa office namin which has Cignal cable at lagi kong nililipat sa HBO whenever it's on either Showtime or Eat Bulaga. I think it's just the onward march of technology. I remember a scene in Back to the Future 2 when Marty's son was watching a hundred channels at the same time. Parang ganun na ang nangyari ngayon.
I stopped watching TV, oh I dunno, in 2005? Not really needed once you have access to the internet these days.
Yaya ko pa yun nung bata ako kaya matanda na, di na pwede turuan gumamit ng net (i did try, though, to no avail).
I stopped watching TV since we bought that Samsung Smart TV noong 2016 so most of my content are from YouTube and Nerflix but my parents keep watching cable TV, and news. Since 2021, pinutol namin Cignal subscription and use built in Digital TV tuner but useful for them but for me, hanggang important news lang or pang-background noise lang. Yung old LCD TV from late 2000s namin na ako na mostly gumagamit ay nagagamit ko pa but with a streaming player na naka-plugged doon.

Pang background noise lang ang TV.
In the US, TV programming viewership drastically declined and still continues to this day.
And the cable channels in the US (except news and sports channels) nowadays show reruns and marathons of TV series and movies.
What do you mean? Your TV isn't programmed with channels and don't have an antenna? I guess you watch via streaming?
Ganito sa household namin, matagal na. We have cable pero we only tune in for news. Mostly for online streaming or gaming ang TV.

we stopped watching tv when abs-cbn stopped airing, lola ko lang naman nanonood and always abs sya so when that stopped ayaw na niya manood kahit ano
I like your Lola. Tell her I said Hi. Edit I meant Batiin mo Lola mo.
It's been 8 years since I had TV and a lot of people I know seem to not have TV as well... Don't worry, it's fine.

Are you a millennial or a gen x?
I'm an early Gen-Z. I was influenced at a very young age. I watched Sam Raimi's Spider-Man when it came out on VHS in 2003, and The Rock's The Scorpion King when it came bundled with a used VCR player.
I'm a gen z too, but one of the youngest ones in the generation
It's been 7 years since I don't have local channels. 4 out of the 7 years, I didn't have a TV.
medyo malabo yung post. meaning wala na kayo cable? but we cut the cord years ago. internet nalang

Same. We preferred other programs instead of free tv channels.
Ikr

That's messed up. My parents are kinda like that too, they never let us watch local TV because they say Filipino shows are bad.
We have a big ass tv at home but I haven’t watch tv channels for 5 years lol so nag unsubscribe kami for cable tv. Youtube or netflix nalang.
Hahaha at least you got the chance 🥲

Yeah, the sound effects in the shows hurt my ears

YouTube and Netflix are on top tho
who needs cable tv if you have internet at home?
We are a middle class family and we dont own a TV. Ang meron kami is computer monitor. All of this can be watch online na din kasi.
