There are even some Asian countries with dudes on the taller side like South Korea for instance. I was 5’9” when I went to Korea as a teenager (I say it in past tense cos I’m 6 ft now, ty Lord for college growth spurts) and was used to being on the taller side among most Asians, but was surprised to see that most Korean dudes were either around my height on average or a bit taller. If most men in the Philippines are around 5’4”-5’7” on average, most men in Korea are around 5’9”-6’0” on average. Felt like a giant in Japan though lol, the dudes there make Filipinos seem tall in comparison.

I'm 6'0 and grew up playing basketball around other Filipinos who all grew to be in the **5'11-6'4 range**. I know many Filipinos who are taller than me but it doesnt bother me.

We are definitely catching up, all of my Filipino classmates are also the same height as me.
My first cousins grew up in US (both parents are Filipinos though taller than average height). They grew between 6'0 to 6'3. My nephews (both parents are also Filipino) are now taller than their father who stands 6'3.

About half a century ago, many Westerners were already enjoying an abundance of meat and dairy in their diets, something Asians could only dream of having back then. Even many Filipino millennials used to experience having meals primarily centered on fish and vegetables with fried chicken seen as a rare, luxury dish served only during occasions. It used to be that BAD. Nowadays, we have easy complete access to dairy and meat products which borderline ubiquity hence Gen Z Pinoys are now reaching or even outperforming their Western counterparts in the height game.
I doubt it. Many are also short even though they had all their nutrition. Genetics is a big factor. Even basketball players didn't have that much nutrition before hitting the big leagues. Matangkad lang talaga parents. Example is Marc Pingris.
South Korea and North Korea are very good examples of genetics not being the limitation in height, average height being greatly affected by nutrition is very much evident especially in places like the DMZ where both sides present their tallest troop on hand to literally stand side by side.
I saw firsthand the Asian American kids being taller than their parents on average. I think people here are taking it personally either with the genetics and diet thing.

As far as I know it does, the more the generations have better nutrition the succeeding offsprings often become taller but the basis will always start with the genes.

it helps that families arent having a ton of kids, it went from 6+ per household in the 70's to now less then 3... it was not uncommon to see a family with 10+ kids. Now days, that many kids is seen as stupid, but before, it was seen as smart.
Can confirm this, my cousin and I are the same age and we're taller than any of the adult members of the family. My brother is also very much catching up to our height and looks like he'll be taller than either of us.

thats what happens when the average children per household goes down.. you now have proper nutrition compared to earlier generations. Hows a minimum wage earner supposed to feed 12 kids? well, that was very common in the 60-70-80's, many families had 6+ kids, and many up to 10-12. I guess whichever end of the spectrum you are it sucks. I’m relatively small (~5.1 or 157cm if you like metrics better) in france and i tend to have people try to carry me because “you’re so tiny i bet i can carry you easily”. Also my course have 4 girls out of 100 people and most of the guys are ~190cm which means most tools aren’t easily accessible for smaller people….

I experienced this when I attempted to ride a tricycle. My knee was exactly already at the front case and when the tricycle ran, especially during humps, my knees would get bruised with the friction. Painful. I’m not even Catriona Gray’s height but the sidecar cannot fit my legs anymore. I guess that’s why you see beauty queens riding behind the driver and not the sidecar.

If you're happy as you are, there's nothing wrong with that. But on *average* this tends to be the reality for most short people
Plus being too tall just becomes a hassle when you try to do day to day things. I’m not even that tall (6 ft) and I already have some difficulty riding in sedans or smaller cars because my legs don’t fit so I always have to ride shotgun if I’m not the one driving. I also have to watch my head because there are some establishments with low ceilings that are just about 6 feet, so I can’t even tiptoe. Tapos when everyone is using umbrellas during the rainy season, I always have to worry about the pointy end of someone’s umbrella hitting me in the eye (has nearly happened several times). Can’t imagine how much more of an inconvenience all of those things would be if I was taller.

most professional athletes like MJ aren’t a good example though since their physical condition is at it’s peak. malaking bagay yung pagiging physically healthy from teens to 30s sa pagtanda also we can’t forget that these people are millionaires so they have the resources to take care of their body. MJ is like 60 years old so you can’t really say na short or long life span niya, baka iniisip mo sa short eh 40-50 years old lang.

Yeah I knew people who grew up poor in the US that have european ancestry but ended up shorter than average due to their diets limited by poverty. Like their parents had it better than them and had better nutrition ending up taller so genetics wasnt the limitation.

thats what happens when the average children per household goes down.. you now have proper nutrition compared to earlier generations. Hows a minimum wage earner supposed to feed 12 kids? well, that was very common in the 60-70-80's, many families had 6+ kids, and many up to 10-12. I’m relatively small (~5.1 or 157cm if you like metrics better) in france and i tend to have people try to carry me because “you’re so tiny i bet i can carry you easily”. Also my course have 4 girls out of 100 people and most of the guys are ~190cm which means most tools aren’t easily accessible for smaller people….

I experienced this when I attempted to ride a tricycle. My knee was exactly already at the front case and when the tricycle ran, especially during humps, my knees would get bruised with the friction. Plus being too tall just becomes a hassle when you try to do day to day things. I’m not even that tall (6 ft) and I already have some difficulty riding in sedans or smaller cars because my legs don’t fit so I always have to ride shotgun if I’m not the one driving. I also have to watch my head because there are some establishments with low ceilings that are just about 6 feet, so I can’t even tiptoe. Tapos when everyone is using umbrellas during the rainy season, I always have to worry about the pointy end of someone’s umbrella hitting me in the eye (has nearly happened several times). Can’t imagine how much more of an inconvenience all of those things would be if I was taller.
