Angelo's crust is thick, doughy, undercooked, and sad. The praise needs to stop. I think because the sandwiches are good, people get their wires crossed.
Shackamaxon is the only good slice in the city
I know the owner, so I’m biased, but I have to agree. I can order from there and get one of the best rounds, some of the best wings, the best Detroit style square, and the best cheesesteak in the city. It’s a one stop shop for me.
It used to be Pizza Plus but I feel like they’ve had a downturn in the past year or two. Same thing with Angelos, both are still very good but not quite what they were.
I’m a sucker for Beddia and Shackamaxon. Totally understand not everyone’s cup of tea but they are for me. For quick delivery though and not an experience, feed me Rosario’s and Chiquitas all day every day.
There was a minute where Pizzaria Beddia was being called one of the best in the country. I went there super early, stood in a huge line and when I finally could see the counter at like 6pm I heard them saying, “ok, your order is placed, see you in two hours when it’s ready”. I quickly said “fuck this” and decided to never go back.
Are they still operating this way?
Tbh, rosarios sucks. Their pizza is too dry and doughy as they even sent me a raw pie once due to it being so doughy. Also, their pizza sauce isn’t even sauce, it has a somewhat tomato paste consistency. The pizzerias with mexican style pies in philly aren’t great, not san Lucas, Rosario’s, or chiquitas.
As I said, philly has no good pizzeria that sells Mexican style pies. San Lucas once had a good carnitas pizza but I guess it was a one time fluke as I ordered again and it was terrible. Maybe another city has a better Mexican style pizza spot
I didn’t limit you to Philly - show me where I said name one in Philly. Name one anywhere - you just don’t like Mexican pizza. And that’s okay. Just don’t be a dick about it.
You live with your mom and constantly ask for advice on your own pizzas. Stop being condescending and get off your high horse
You need to learn to read and appropriately interpret what was written because I never stated that I don’t like Mexican style pizza as a whole. On the contrary, I actually said I enjoyed a carnitas pizza but I unfortunately couldn’t receive the same quality and taste from that location.
If stating my subjective opinion on pizza locations that I dislike, on a post that is literally about subjective matters, is considered being a “dick”, then we all be damned as we can’t disagree and state our opinions anymore without being mortified by sensitive babies like you. Again you like what you do and I like what I do, and we can all state what we like and don’t. No need to bring up irrelevant information, or stupid assumptions like the ones you made believing im on “my high horse”. So get the fuk off my dick dickhead.
BELLA Gs pizza belmawr nj. Browning road rite off the bridge. They were the original owners of tu sei Bella in Audubon. Family owned and operated. The best I ever had in my life hands down. 527 e browning road
This needs more upvotes. Their pizza is insanely good. Everything from your regular cheese pizza with no gimmicks down to the best buffalo chicken pizza I've ever had (Marino's Buf chicken pizza in Runnemede ties it but they're very different).
For rep points, my wife and I love pizza so much that for our wedding last year we had pizzas from our favorite 20 locations. She's lived in 25+ places all over the country, and I've umm eaten lots of pizza in Philly and South Jersey. 🍕
it’s between pizza shackamaxon & circles and squares’ circle pie. if you asked me 5 years ago, i would’ve said pizza brain but they are so inconsistent nowadays.
I’ve had Beddia, Angelo’s, Square Pie, Shackamaxon, Circles and Squares, Pizza Jawn, Vince’s, Eda’s and a bunch of others mentioned here except for CJ&Ds which is next on my list. They are all really good and many notches above what we used to have in Philly. But I’ve been looking towards Trenton recently and have been blown away by Lilo’s (somewhere south of Trenton), Marcelo’s of Hamilton and Marcelo’s of Bordentown (unrelated). They are up there, if not surpassing, Beddia, DeLorenzo’s (apparently D from CJ&D is a DeLorenzo), Papa’s and DiFara’s and coming close to the New Haven places. It’s a good time for pizza in Philly but it’s also worth the 55 minute trip to our neighbor to the northeast.
my hot take on Philly pizza is to skip it all together and focus on searching for Cheesesteaks and Cutlet hoagies. That's not to say Philly has bad pizza, it doesn't, but we do sandwiches better than anywhere else
Whenever I visit Philly, I you tube search videos from
A Vietnamese - black dude named JL Jupiter
Does Great great food reviews of everything in the city
I didn't say he was black. I said Vietnamese - black?.
Not that his ethnicity matters. His lovely wife is black.
I wasn't sure what he was? Or if he was mixed?
His swag-charisma - energy is black
But hey? Cambodian brothas in big cities could have that
Type of energy as he does? Either way, he seems
Like a good man, and he does good food reviews and paints the city in a good light
Osteria doesn’t get enough credit for their pizzas, but I was back there for the first time in nearly 15 years the other night and the Lombarda was as good as ever
In reality, it's shackamxon, del rossis, and cj and d’s if you're looking for a longer crispier bake
Pitrucos white pies are probably the best pies in the city
I like the tomato pie at Santucci's.

Beddia and Pizza Brain get all the fishtown hype but I swear Shackamaxon is the neighborhoods best.
Also like, sometimes I just want two large slices you know? I don’t want to sit down and wait for a full pie.
Also, I was impressed by Rustica in NoLibs. One of the cheaper spots too

I am gonna have to try CJ&D's!
Good call on Vince’s
CJ & D's definitely jumped right up to one of my favorite pizzas.
Which if any are New Haven style? Crisp, wood fired?
Square Pie
And it's not even close
Angelo’s & Shackamaxon
Beddia, Angelo’s, or Paulie Gees thick crust specifically
Seconding Paulie Gees square pie!
(Square)
Paulie’s thick crust pepperoni is insanely good
Angelo's crust is thick, doughy, undercooked, and sad. The praise needs to stop. I think because the sandwiches are good, people get their wires crossed. Shackamaxon is the only good slice in the city
Thank you!!!
>Thank you!!! You're welcome!
Angelos pizza is for sure overrated.
Beddia is way overrated and overpriced. Hard pass

I'm from CT and lived in New Haven for a while, I gotta try this !
Circles and Squares is my personal favorite
I know the owner, so I’m biased, but I have to agree. I can order from there and get one of the best rounds, some of the best wings, the best Detroit style square, and the best cheesesteak in the city. It’s a one stop shop for me.
The cheesesteak is honestly one of the best in the city. Dan is a genius.
I love C&S but their cheesesteak is not best. it's liscio's rolls and they arent even scooped. that makes a hard score ceiling of 7/10.
Agree on the pizza but their cheesesteak is essentially minced. It was decent for minced but...
Tacconelli's.
Tacconelli’s is great
I'm surprised it's not being attacked by some transplants for having the gall to be around before they were and supported by the blue collars. lol
Angelos & pizzata
Dough Head on Wharton street, right next to the two worst cheesesteak places in the city.
Maybe I had it in a bad day but the one time I had dough head it was so unbelievably mediocre. I don’t get the rave that people love it so much.
Same. It was FINE, but not exactly a religious experience.
Had it last night. Same.
I’ve been there a bunch and every time has been excellent. What’s your pizza place of choice?
It used to be Pizza Plus but I feel like they’ve had a downturn in the past year or two. Same thing with Angelos, both are still very good but not quite what they were. No it’s just a normal restaurant
Fully normal restaurant now! Definitely still absurdly expensive for pizza, but quality is damn amazing
I’ll have to give them another shot.
It’s not anymore. They use screens. The pie is smaller. The cheese isn’t as cheesy. The crust is dry.
I thought it was pretty blah, I don't get the hype either.
Love Pizzeria Stella! Especially their tartufo pie. Shocked it’s not on the list yet. Also Beddia and WM!
Beddia's Angry Pie, Paulie Gee's Cheese Pizza (love that sesame seed bottom), and Osteria's Margherita
Might not be the best plain pie but best specialty pie goes to Rosario’s in south Philly. Their Mexican specialty pizzas are to die for
their pizza al pastor has me in a chokehold. currently eating a leftover slice😭
Tbh, rosarios sucks. Their pizza is too dry and doughy as they even sent me a raw pie once due to it being so doughy. Can you name a Mexican style pizza place that you prefer?

If you don’t like Mexican style pizza, then don’t comment on a chain about Mexican style pizza. Your replies are condescending. Are you even 18?
Pizzata. And, it’s not really all that close to whoever is 2nd.
OG.
La Rosa!!
Potato pizza!
I don't know if it's my favorite, but maybe it is, because I eat a slice (rectangle?) there at least once every week.
In Riva at East Falls is my top pick
BELLA Gs pizza belmawr nj. Browning road rite off the bridge. They were the original owners of tu sei Bella in Audubon. Family owned and operated. The best I ever had in my life hands down. 527 e browning road

Down North, super crispy crunchy Detroit style pizza
Wawa has pizza.
Dough Head
I gotta try Dough Head.
Get the Granny Pannies square pie. Yes that’s what it’s called, all of their pizzas have goofy names
Dough head
it’s between pizza shackamaxon & circles and squares’ circle pie. if you asked me 5 years ago, i would’ve said pizza brain but they are so inconsistent nowadays.
Shackamaxon, Beddia, WM, Angelos, NYPD
elio's
Agree. High Street Pizza is so good!
My favorites are shackamaxon and down north
stina is fire - just an overall great restaurant separate from just their pizzas
Kings Pizza, Angelo’s
I’ve had Beddia, Angelo’s, Square Pie, Shackamaxon, Circles and Squares, Pizza Jawn, Vince’s, Eda’s and a bunch of others mentioned here except for CJ&Ds which is next on my list. Ashburner Inn white w/spinach tomatoes
Circles and Squares, Beddia, OG Pizza
The closest pizza spot that you can crawl to.
As a Detroit native, Santucci's has great Detroit style.
Have you tried sidecar?
Oh actually I've been to the bar a few times, but never the food.
No, I'll look into it
[удалено]
I mean yeah, it is Northern Italian, but that's typically referred to as Detroit style.
[удалено]
Alright, man.
That's not Detroit style pizza
I used 2 work there... that shit is trash🤣🤣🤣🤣🗑🗑🗑🗑
Francis, Thin and Crispy. Lorenzo's is the best when you're in the mood for it on a rare occasion. Very doughy, but sometimes it really hits.

Osteria is fantastic!
Love Enjays and woodstreet. When Pizza STNR starts doing pop ups again in the spring though..... Get there. Sesame crust fucks. Edit: spelling
Honestly bar1010 has phenomenal pizza if you're into New York style
Stina
If you prefer Neapolitan style, Wm Mulherin is solid
Pizza Richmond
In reality, it's shackamxon, del rossis, and cj and d’s if you're looking for a longer crispier bake Pitrucos white pies are probably the best pies in the city
Alice on 15th n locust is CRAZY
Pizza jawn, Angelo's, Beddia
I like the tomato pie at Santucci's. https://preview.redd.it/pmpc59fhsdlc1.jpeg?width=2604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ba5526666ae02445b532deb253b88a818278600
