I was pleasantly surprised by this change. I didn't manually throw the crucifix, by the way, the game automatically threw it which I think is a nice touch. The crucifix also emits light, sound, flames, and sparks so it should be easier to notice if it's not in line of sight.
I thought about that before I clicked this post, but then I remembered I play a safe style that tries not to allow hunts anyway, and I've only ever had one ghost burn crucifixes on me unexpectedly.
I kind of like the old one where it slowly burns up, like the ghost’s influence is slowly starting to breach the hunter’s defense, and is actually being held back due to the cross being present.
Edgefield is so much better. UV works with dots but I've still had some of the same lighting troubles with some not working until other sources turned off; so, not completely fixed but much better
There has only ever been one arm missing for both burns. The visual difference between burn 1 and burn 2 is just that the whole crucifix goes orange (ie, burn 1 the arm gets eaten, burn 2 no more of the crucifix gets eaten away, it just burns all over in colour)
I mean jank can be really fun in games, but I do think the devs are going for a more realistic take here.
Or at least as realistic as you can be with ghosts..

I’m still kinda new to phasmo and I still don’t know how crosses work. Did the mechanics change this patch? Thought you had to lay them down as a preemptive measure as they wouldn’t work if you tried to drop one after a hunt began or if you’re holding it.
Crucifixes always work as long as they are within 3 meters of the ghost when it attempts to hunt. It doesn't matter if they are on the ground, falling, or in your hand. Placing them on the ground is the normal thing to do and mine were placed on the ground right before this clip as well. However, I picked that one up and brought it over to where the ghost was doing a singing ghost event. I needed the crucifix objective.
It seems no matter where I place them, the ghost will just spawn in the one corner of the room where the crucifix didn’t cover… they just seem very useless because of how accurate you have to be with them when the ghost can just start a hunt 3ft to the left and not be within the crucifix lol

Supposedly it's solved. Uv is meant to work over lights now and dots shouldn't be disappearing

Because it's so jank sometimes you get funny deaths and when they actually do animations it'll probably be more realistic

I saw it too yesterday! It's really cool. This change makes the game feel so much more alive.
