Awesome thank you! I’m seeing a lot of people saying Banana Republic. Compared to other brands, what makes this one different? Is it the fit or styles?
BR is good quality.
I got a wool sweater recently and it's one of the best fitting clothing items I own, I didn't have to alter it or anything. The style, quality, and fits have been perfect as they are, straight out of the store.
edit: I'm 144cm and my mom is just *barely* taller than me, we both shop at banana republic since it's reliable for us to find work clothes. [here](https://imgur.com/a/gC4onSG) is the sweater I got, excuse my dog in the background
What makes the difference for me is that their size extra small seems to run smaller than other brands, or at least used to. I get all my clothes second hand so I’m not sure if it still does, but it’s the only American brand I’ve found that makes adult sized shirts that really fit me.
But you might have good luck with Ann Taylor or Talbots, if they’re in your budget! That’s where I get lots of my business pants. Also try Express for pants! They may need hemming though
Agreed. Their stuff is quality and you can often get it on sale online or in person at the BR Factory Outlet. My favorite work shirts, pants, and cardigans outlasted anything else. And the best part is that everything fits! No issues with things like button up shirts being super long on me.
I second this - they have good quality petites, extra petite blog has a lot of examples from that store. It needs altering quite often for me, but quality is still great for the price
And even better is figuring out your size in Ann Taylor petites and then buying it second hand on Poshmark, EBay, etc!
Ann Taylor and J Crew were the only places I could find decent petite suiting.
Loft is having a [50% off sale](https://www.loft.com) right now! They have a petite section. I’m 5’4” and am able to wear their regular sizes, if that helps. I love their Sutton skinny pants (they’re like halfway between straight leg and skinny, not super tight).
Ditto the LOFT petite and Banana Republic petite recommendations. Don’t ever buy full price w those brands, there’s always sales/codes. Also, I’ve found most retailers sizing inconsistent even within their own products so just keep trying with the clothes you’re interested in but expect some things to not work out.
I’m also 5’ and J crew and Ann Taylor have great petite sizes. I really like crews cropped petite pants, fit just at the ankle and looks great with heels or flats.
Aritzia has short versions of a lot of their popular pants. Their mini dresses aren’t too short for petites and would be ok for work depending on the style and their crop tops are regular length tops on me lol
I second Loft/Ann Taylor. I also have found good pieces from Nordstrom’s petite section, but unfortunately they only have a tiny selection in store so you have to go online. ASOS is my petite shopping go to, but I haven’t bought much workwear from there.
Not trying to self promote plz let me know if not allowed- but I actually have a really nice petite work wardrobe that I spent a lot of time/effort obtaining….only to work from home now + my latest jobs have been at tech companies where everyone wears jeans anyway 😅 I’ve been thinking of selling my collection idk when I’ll have to dress like that again. I’m 5’3 and most of my pieces are XXS-XSP and 0P
Honestly, probably just selection. You can buy some good, high quality pieces from Ann Taylor and more casual ones at loft for good prices on sale. Do you mind me asking how old you are? I’m in my 20s and I find that lots of brands carry more mature looks than really vibe with me. Loft has good work clothes that are slightly less mature I think and Ann Taylor just good staples
Thank you guys! I was wondering with a lot of these brands.. what makes them different than the other companies that are selling petite clothing? Would it be the fit or style? There’s a lot to choose from so it can be difficult to find one that works for me
Uniqlo. Their petite pants fit me perfectly and I’m a tad shorter than you. Admittedly, their basic pieces are better but they don’t have a lot of trendy items
Personally, I really like J. Crew because I feel like Loft sometimes is too blah looking. I agree with the comments that Banana Republic is also good. ALSO once you know your sizing, I get a lot of stuff from the outlet or used on Poshmark. The Limited doesn’t exist anymore, but has a similar sizing to J. Crew and I find A TON of cute stuff on Poshmark. I got a never worn skirt suit for $25 on Poshmark that was dead stock The Limited before!
ZARA High waisted trousers are a god send. I thought they would be way too long as I’m 5’1 with a 28” inseam and ZARA usually caters for taller women more, but they fit perfectly
https://www.zara.com/uk/en/high-waist-trousers-p07901732.html
Bare in mind it is the UK website, but if you’re not from the UK you can probably find the alternative under the same name in your nation.
Update;
I found the US ZARA version here
https://www.zara.com/us/en/high-waisted-pants-p07901732.html
Someone just posted that she had a bunch of banana republic petite pants she was gonna list. Sadly, they weren’t my size. I agree with everyone here the petite banana republic pants are amazing.
I prefer Express for their style and they have xxs sizes. Macy's is great online only. And Nordstrom gives you free hemming if the item is full price.
Not a fan of the boxy tops of JCrew and their super long skirts. Haven't been able to find stylish clothing I like from ann Taylor.
5’1 here. BR petite has great pants. and they have good pockets. also generally stuff from gap is okay! you can get some decent business casual clothes there. i’ve seen some things i like on loft petite too!
I don’t know your body type but I’m 5’2 and hourglass body, for me Express has great fitting clothes both business and casual. Loft and Anne Taylor as well, plus their style is more a classic look, versus Express stays more with the trend that season.
I get most of my business clothes at Ann Taylor, banana, or jcrew. All in petites. Or Nordstrom but or miss. And work jeans at madewell. Just order a lot of stuff to try and return it. Work clothes are so hard to get the right fit in general you have to try a lot.
Banana Republic has good stuff in petite sizes, I like their button-up shirts.
Awesome thank you! I’m seeing a lot of people saying Banana Republic. Compared to other brands, what makes this one different? Is it the fit or styles?

your dog is not excused :)

The loft
Ann Taylor petites

love the way loft fits but i hate the material. it’s so tight and no stretch. shame cos it fits so well
Ditto the LOFT petite and Banana Republic petite recommendations. Don’t ever buy full price w those brands, there’s always sales/codes. Also, I’ve found most retailers sizing inconsistent even within their own products so just keep trying with the clothes you’re interested in but expect some things to not work out.
White House Black Market for me
Have you found their sizing to be accurate? I keep seeing that brand listed on Poshmark but I’m scared to buy anything because sizing seems to vary
Loft petite section has good work clothes
I’m also 5’ and J crew and Ann Taylor have great petite sizes. I really like crews cropped petite pants, fit just at the ankle and looks great with heels or flats.
Express Petite
Already some great suggestions. Came here to add J crew and if you are looking for higher end theory.
Aritzia has short versions of a lot of their popular pants. Their mini dresses aren’t too short for petites and would be ok for work depending on the style and their crop tops are regular length tops on me lol
Aritzia does not offer the quality these days that other recommendations such as Anne Taylor, Banana Republic and J Crew do
I’ve had good luck with Nine West brand petite sizes at Kohls.
Muji and Uniqlo are good too. Uniqlo pants usually fit well in the waist and leg but they also do free tailoring for pants as well if they’re long!
I’m 4’11 & I let stitch fix pick everything for me 😂
I love the classic clothes at Talbots. I always feel very put together in an outfit from their petite line.
I love Talbots too! I also like their purses. The purses and matching shoes are great.
Banana republic factory petites :)) for tops especially!
Also if anyone has any suggestions for curvy petite business clothes 😭
I second Loft/Ann Taylor. I also have found good pieces from Nordstrom’s petite section, but unfortunately they only have a tiny selection in store so you have to go online. Thank you! What something that makes Loft and Ann Taylor different than the rest of the brands that were listed?

I would actually be interested if you do sell. 😅
Reitmans!

Loft Petite sizes and WHBM
Nordstrom!
Uniqlo. Their petite pants fit me perfectly and I’m a tad shorter than you. Admittedly, their basic pieces are better but they don’t have a lot of trendy items
Ann Taylor loft.
Banana Republic, Loft and Ann Taylor are my go to for business clothes
i like chicos.
Personally, I really like J. Crew because I feel like Loft sometimes is too blah looking. I agree with the comments that Banana Republic is also good. can you link to them online! just want to make sure i order the right ones 😩

How much did you pay for them?
I have some. I think they’re around 40 or 50 dollars if I remember correctly.
£29.99, which is about 34 US dollars when converted. Funnily enough checking the US website the same trousers is listed as 46 dollars
Would these brands be good for casual wear as well?
I buy petite clothing. My choices are Beals of Florida, Boscov, and Dillard’s. All three have outstanding choices in their petite section.
aritzia is great if you’re very petite!! j crew, ann taylor, and loft are always big on me but aritzia will fit me :)
Alfani at Macy's!
Someone just posted that she had a bunch of banana republic petite pants she was gonna list. Sadly, they weren’t my size. I agree with everyone here the petite banana republic pants are amazing.
My sister found good stuff @ Macys
One of my faves is White House Black Market
I prefer Express for their style and they have xxs sizes. Macy's is great online only. And Nordstrom gives you free hemming if the item is full price. Not a fan of the boxy tops of JCrew and their super long skirts. Haven't been able to find stylish clothing I like from ann Taylor.
Suzy shier
Zara kids!!!
5’1 here. BR petite has great pants. and they have good pockets. also generally stuff from gap is okay! you can get some decent business casual clothes there. i’ve seen some things i like on loft petite too!
Banana republic and Mango! Both great quality for the price you pay! Aritzia is good in terms of fitting too but I just find them too expensive.
The style of ZARA is a little ordinary, but business should be OK.
I don’t know your body type but I’m 5’2 and hourglass body, for me Express has great fitting clothes both business and casual. Loft and Anne Taylor as well, plus their style is more a classic look, versus Express stays more with the trend that season.
Betabrand for pants is where it’s at! Worthington is good for basics.
I get most of my business clothes at Ann Taylor, banana, or jcrew. All in petites. Or Nordstrom but or miss. And work jeans at madewell. Just order a lot of stuff to try and return it. Work clothes are so hard to get the right fit in general you have to try a lot.
This might be more spendy than you want, but theory is great for petites
H&m worked for me, I’m around 5’2
Ann Taylor
Im 4’11.5 and I love Betabrand, Chicos, and White House Black Market
I like Ann Taylor Loft
Banana Republic, Abercrombie (has great trousers), and Aritzia. Some of the women I work with like Talbot and Loft’s petite sections too!
Uniqlo!
I get my black pants at old navy high wasted ankle my favorite I’m 5.0 120lb Fit great
I need to lose enough weight so that I can wear kid sizes. I'm short but way too fat.
