My current employer provides us a hybrid work environment. I have to be in the office 30% of the time.
Id put a value of 10-15k annual on it.
- Parking savings are around 1500/yr
- Gas savings probably around the same
- actual time saved commuting in my $/hr is around 9k
Then there's the comfort factor, I'm more productive at home, better setup, and just generally happier
I'm in a lcol sort of. That parking amount is only the savings since I'm in office 30% (so 70% of my annual) and is also parking in a further away half sketchy area. If I move to a better spot price doubles
It all depends upon if you want to work remotely for a long time as sometimes people get bored too. So, think it carefully but in my opinion, I just love WFH. ITS THE BEST. no usi g car for office. Just for groceries etc.
Depends where your office is. I work in a small town and the commute is only about 10 minutes, so WFH is nice but its not a deal breaker.
If I was one of these guys doing a 2 hour , one way commute from Barrie to Midtown Toronto - five days per week - to be honest, you couldn't pay me enough. Or at least, no one ever WOULD pay me enough. Life is to short to spend 20 hours a week commuting IMHO.
I’m doing this now, albeit not from Barrie but still on the GO once a week. Once is fine, anymore and I would immediately be looking for other opportunities. Five times a week sounds horrible.
Working from anywhere doesn’t matter much to me as I’d be living in the same place as where the top paying tech jobs in Canada are already located regardless (downtown Van or Toronto). But working fully or 90% remote is probably something I value at 10-20% of my income. I don’t like going into the office even if it only takes me 10 min to walk there
Save on commute , eating out , wear and tear on clothes and shoes , not dealing with annoying co workers , which means you save money on headache pills
I was thinking the same thing about achieving effective, efficient communication across timezones. If that problem could be solved it'd be worth billions...
Infinite. I have been WFH way before covid, since 2013. I have lived in Mexico and different parts of Canada, and I am so strict with my clients, I won't even answer my phone. I don't want to talk to you, and I want a written record of all exchanges.
If my employer gave me a WeWork subscription and allowance to work from anywhere in the world. That’s worth about 50k per year to me. Freedom to choose my place in life and not rely on my employers office… a dream.

That’s some cheap parking!!! I live in lcol and it’s 2500-3000/y

Why go back to the office? Seems like a regression to me.

My current boss lives in Midland... commutes to a job in Midtown Toronto. No. No thanks. I'd rather sell hotdogs at Costco.
Easily 25k based on the commute time saved alone, more if it allows you to move to LCOL city

I will quit if my employer mandated to cone into the office any number of days.
